In this heartfelt conversation on I Am Refocused Radio, we sit down with Samantha Taylor, Speech Language Pathologist, owner of Olive Speech Therapy, PLLC, and founder of the Empowered Parent Network. What started as every parent's worst fear — her son's diagnosis of bilateral profound sensorineural hearing loss — became the catalyst that completely redirected Samantha's life. A former journalism student with dreams of becoming a reporter, Samantha made the courageous leap into speech-language pathology after realizing she wanted to walk alongside families facing the same challenges she once did. Samantha opens up about:- The emotional and spiritual journey of becoming a mother of a Deaf child and how it reshaped her identity and purpose- Why she left school-based therapy to build a private practice rooted in connection, advocacy, and safe spaces- The power of meeting families as a human being first — not just a clinician- How she created the Empowered Parent Network to give parents the support, coaching, and advocacy tools they desperately need- Balancing motherhood, business ownership, and self-care without burning out- What it really looks like to turn personal pain into lasting impact for other families If you're a parent navigating speech delays, hearing loss, autism, or special needs — or if you're a therapist or leader looking to build something meaningful from your own story — this episode will encourage you to see your challenges as the very thing that can qualify you to help others. Episode Summary In this episode of The EdTech Podcast, we explore how schools, families and EdTech providers can better support children's wellbeing, inclusion and safety in an increasingly digital world. Louise Dawson shares insights on inclusive education, personalised learning, safeguarding, data protection and the importance of belonging and connection in every learning environment. She highlights how technology can support diverse learners when implemented strategically, with clear policies, strong teacher preparation and a community-wide understanding of digital responsibility. Harrison Parker, Executive Vice President of Linewise, joins the conversation to discuss student wellbeing, screen time, digital distractions, cyberbullying, AI chatbots and the growing challenges schools and parents face in managing children's online lives. He explains how Linewise supports schools and families with tools that help monitor, manage and guide technology use, while reducing friction between children, parents and educators. Together, these conversations explore a vital question for education today: how do we ensure technology empowers learning, protects children and strengthens connection, rather than creating greater risk, distraction or exclusion? Action Items Review and update safeguarding policies to reflect current EdTech use, AI risks and digital wellbeing concerns. On this episode of Main Street Matters, Jordan Bruneau sits down with Jonathan Williams to break down the rapid expansion of school choice across the country and what it means for families, students, and small businesses. They discuss how policies like education savings accounts (ESAs), tax credit scholarships, and open enrollment are giving parents more control over their children’s education—regardless of income or ZIP code. The conversation also dives into the newly passed federal education tax credit program, how states are opting in, and what it means for taxpayers and donors starting in 2027.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Join host Robert Bortins as he sits down with KrisAnne Hall, constitutional attorney, former prosecutor, and founder of Liberty First Society. With her background in constitutional law and as a former homeschool parent, KrisAnne delivers a compelling legal and biblical argument against government-funded school choice programs. KrisAnne explains why the federal government has zero constitutional authority over education and reveals how states have traded their sovereignty for federal dollars. Drawing from nearly two decades of warnings, she exposes what's already happening in Florida and Texas: mandatory ethics policies forcing Christian schools to teach evolution, regulations prohibiting single-source curriculum (biblical truth), and requirements around gender identity and sexual orientation. She dismantles the illusion that vouchers "follow the student, not the school," explaining why this actually gives government authority to audit your personal finances and exercise fiduciary control over your children. Those tax dollars legally belong to government the moment they're collected—when you take Caesar's money for education, you're converting your home into government property and your private school into a public one. Today, I'm joined by Eliana Pozzi — a behaviour analyst, autistic self-advocate, parent, and the founder of ABA en Casa. Eliana's journey into Applied Behaviour Analysis didn't begin in a clinic or a graduate program, but at home — shaped by her lived experience as an autistic woman and as a mother to her daughter, Sienna, who experiences autism and ADHD. What began as a deeply personal search for understanding and support evolved into a powerful mission: to make ABA accessible, culturally responsive, and truly useful for families. Through ABA en Casa, Eliana challenges the idea that behaviour-analytic knowledge should be locked behind credentials. Instead, she centers parents as capable, thoughtful change agents — especially within Spanish-speaking and culturally diverse communities. In this conversation, we talk about private events, emotions, and the limits of focusing only on observable behaviour — particularly for nonverbal children whose internal experiences are often misunderstood or overlooked. Eliana shares how the environment shapes behaviour, why compassion and logic matter in teaching, and how community can reduce isolation for parents navigating complex systems. Much of Eliana's advocacy and education lives on Instagram, where she connects with thousands of families through @abaencasa, translating behavioural concepts into practical, relatable tools rooted in real life. Too often, parents are told their child will “grow out of it.” Snoring? Normal. Grinding? Just a phase. Bedwetting? Don't worry about it. But what if those symptoms are actually red flags—and you've been dismissed over and over? In this episode of Dentistry Disrupted, Dr. Craig Clayton is joined by airway health pioneer Dr. Shereen Lim, author of Breathe, Sleep, Thrive, for a conversation that will resonate with every parent who's ever felt unheard. Dr. Lim shares how her own experience as a mom—and hearing stories from dismissed and desperate parents—drove her to write a book that connects the dots. Because parents don't need another brush-off, they need tools, information, and the confidence to trust their gut and take action. This episode is your permission slip to dig deeper. To question. To advocate. We're at a tipping point. Just over a decade ago, Dr. Lim was almost blocked from speaking at a university conference because her airway-focused approach was seen as “outside the norm.” Today, her clinic is so full she's had to close her books—and more providers are waking up to the importance of early intervention. The movement is happening, and parents like you are leading the charge.

Send us a textThis week on Tech Tuesday, we sit down with Dr. Theodor Uzamere, a graduating neonatology fellow from Texas Children's Hospital, to explore an inspiring project that brings creativity and compassion to the NICU bedside. Theodor introduces us to the Consult Cards — a thoughtful, low-tech innovation designed to support families navigating the overwhelming world of neonatal intensive care.Rooted in his love for consults and desire to improve communication during high-stress conversations, Theodor created a deck of color-coded, parent-friendly flashcards that cover essential NICU topics: diseases, respiratory support, nutrition, imaging, and vocabulary. Drawing from his own study strategies and guided by feedback from NICU family focus groups, these cards aim to reduce anxiety, improve understanding, and foster meaningful engagement between families and the medical team.We discuss the process of developing, evaluating, and iterating on the cards, and how Theodor hopes to expand their reach. More than just an educational tool, the Consult Cards empower families to participate actively in their baby's care. If you're passionate about patient-centered communication and innovation in neonatology, this conversation will move and motivate you. For collaboration opportunities, Theodor's contact details are: theodoruzamere@gmail.com As always, feel free to send us questions, comments, or suggestions to our email: nicupodcast@gmail.com.
