Tonight, in our special monthly Snoozecast+ Deluxe bonus episode, we invite you to immerse yourself in a tale crafted by Snoozecast, drawing inspiration from an ancient Chinese Taoist parable. If you would like to learn more about what our premium subscriptions offer, go to snoozecast.com/plus. Our story centers on a farmer who embodies the Taoist principle of withholding judgment towards the events unfolding in his life. He understands that labeling occurrences as either good or bad fortune is futile, recognizing the inherent uncertainty of life. This timeless parable gained traction in the West largely due to the efforts of the self-styled "philosophical entertainer," Alan Watts. Renowned for his interpretations and popularizations of Buddhist, Taoist, and Hindu philosophies, Watts played a significant role in bridging Eastern thought with Western audiences. His lectures continue to resonate even after his passing, finding renewed popularity through regular broadcasts on public radio and more recently, on the internet. The majority of his recorded talks date back to the vibrant cultural landscape of the 1960s and early 1970s. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Lao Tzu, the ancient Chinese Taoist philosopher, once said "Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power." Why is this important? Well if you're feeling stuck in life, nothing has been working out for you in terms of relationships or career choices, you're lacking a sense of fulfillment and you feel you have no direction in life, chances are you don't fully know yourself. You've kind of just followed what was laid out in front of you by others and you were lead to believe this was the best and maybe only way to live. Now you're feeling confused, a little lost and you have a sense that there's got to be more than what has been presented to you. In these moments it's very important to turn within.yourself and find answers. Turning to yourself may seem like the scariest thing to do because you aren't used to doing that. If you're like me, you ask for and take advice from those around you and although they mean well and you've voluntarily asked for their advice, the answers they have for you might not jibe with the direction your spirit is calling you to move in. This is exactly why it is important to first spend time with yourself free from distraction preferably in solitude and in nature to truly begin to know yourself. Know yourself to build trust with yourself that you can figure things out when it comes to the biggest decisions of your life and by all means this is not me saying that you should tune out what others have to tell you. No way, not at all. This just means even when you seek advice from others, you ultimately make the final decision for your life knowing full well that you made the best decision possible for you. Your potential is limitless in nature and you are the master creator of your life whether you know it or not. It all starts in the mind and as you spend more and more time getting to know yourself, you find out that you're more powerful than you were ever lead to believe. I believe with enough patience, effort, consistency and strength that you can do what it is you set out to do. In this episode I go into much more detail about knowing yourself, how to get to know yourself and what that could mean for your life going forward. Enjoy the episode y'all! Big Love! This episode is about leveling up by figuring out what your missing element is. WTF? Yup, missing element. I love learning about different healing modalities, and I don't know a lot about the Chinese Daoist/Taoist system, let alone what the five elements cycle is. Which is why I spoke to Tisha Morris. Tisha is an entertainment attorney, feng shui expert, and the author of five books on the healing arts. Tisha explains how we each embody a primary element —water, wood, fire, earth, or metal - that defines our strengths. But what about our weaknesses? In this episode, we dive into her latest book: Missing Element Hidden Strength, to understand how we can activate our creative potential by improving our most challenging element. Find out more at www.TheConsciousDiva.com HIGHLIGHTS FROM THIS EPISODE: How To understand and the use of the Five Element cycle. Her brand new book - Missing Element Hidden Strength. The roots of the I Ching and how this philosophy relates to Taoism, Chinese astrology, feng shui and acupuncture. Tisha explains how the five elements in the Chinese Taoist system are similar and different to Vedic philosophy and principals. Tisha breaks down how the elemental cycle can be applied to any creative process and relationships. She shares how we can level up once we understand what our missing element is in order to integrate our shadow. AND SO MUCH MORE! Episode# 013Inspired by a life-long passion for health and nutrition, Derek Van Atta, the creator of Sarvaa Superfood, is living his commitment of promoting optimal living and vitality! In his senior year of High School, Derek suffered from severe digestive tract issues which forced him to begin learning about physiology and nutrition. He began eating differently and feeling much better, so he was quickly hooked by the empowering benefits of learning about food. After two years of studying Nutrition Science in college in Northern California, he moved back to Colorado and got a job in a health food store where he was even more inspired by the amazing interplay between human nutrition and having more energy, mental clarity, and optimal well-being. He then spent three years as a monk in a small Yoga Community where he learned the value of meditation, yoga and the day-to-day spiritual practice of "service to others." Fast forward a few more years and he was working crazy hours in a small start-up he co-founded in Silicon Valley. Derek's commitments to healthy food and meditation were put to the test by the intense pace of Silicon Valley, which demanded a similar intensity in his personal exploration of nutrition, yoga, meditation and exercise. "Whenever I got lazy with my diet or other healthy habits, I suffered immediately." The improvements in daily well-being that Derek experienced whenever he fed his body superfoods, inspired him to develop his own superfood recipes. Thus began the next chapter, which was how to make these incredibly healthy blends actually taste good. Co-owner of Sarvaa, Bronwyn Beatta's nutritional knowledge came from being exposed to different schools of thought, from Ayurveda to traditional Chinese Taoist and Buddhist diets. She also greatly values the intrinsic knowledge that her body shares with her every minute of every day! Throughout her co-evolution with Sarvaa Superfood, Bronwyn has learned even more about optimal health and glows from the inside out when she gets to share how exceptional eating habits and having a joyful outlook have shifted her life into an upward spiral. Staying in a golden state of mind as often as possible, her creativity shows up in the written word, abstract paintings, and in human connections. Bronwyn expresses her joy for Sarvaa Superfood by collaborating with her co-workers to produce the most accurate information possible on the Sarvaa website. A translator and creator at heart, her passion is that you have a full understanding of the pure goodness that you are investing in when you bring Sarvaa into your life. Sarvaa's vision is to support your life with powerful, balanced, affordable and easy superfoods so that you can optimize your unique contribution to life on Earth. Keeping with the spirit of Optimal Health and Wellbeing, Sarvaa Superfoods are synergistic blends of botanicals that have been used by ancient healing traditions from all over the world. Each product is literally a "melting pot" of these traditions. Every superfood creation at Sarvaa is made with a consciousness of LOVE, and an unwavering commitment to the absolute highest quality possible. My story and studies began as a “wounded healer” whosetraining and experience also included the necessity of self-love and self-healing which I teach to others. My original vision in 1997 was to offer dance as a healing art and bodywork to support women to heal themselves and their centers in the divine feminine way. My commitment as a practitioner, conscious performer, and choreographer, is to model and embody this healing with the intention to support and encourage others. My personal healing journey began in earnest at 23-years old, in 1991. I sought help from holistic practitioners and then a spiritual guide to heal personal trauma (spiritually and physically), a dysfunctional relationship, and serious spiritual, emotional, and low back pain. At 27, I began professional healing studies. At 28-years-old, I started performing belly dance and teaching it as a healing art for women.I was studying and practicing Chi Nei Tsang (aka CNT or Integrated Internal Organ Massage), a Chinese Taoist healing art, and “Unwinding the Belly” with Allison Post. This included belly massage, breath, and energy work. I worked with family and friends helping them heal trauma and abuse, scar tissue, and digestive issues. I then went on to continue my recovery and professional journey/studies/practice for the next 25+ years in dance, functional & corrective exercise, bodywork, and overcoming mental illness. I have come full circle with a complimentary, interdisciplinary approach to support my original vision in 2021 and beyond.Show notes; What does the Divine Feminine have to do with healing someone from trauma? How dance, music and percussion are healing arts? What self-love, self-care and trauma recovery look like. How nature has the power to heal. What are mental health lifestyle and holistic recovery?

In today’s show I’m talking to Mason Taylor – wellness educator, passionate tonic herbalist and founder and director of Superfeast, a very cool Australian company for tonic herbs and medicinal mushrooms. Superfeast and Mason got my attention when I was in New Zealand last year and since then I’ve been following their stories. It’s Mason’s passion to teach people from all walks of life on how to embrace the healing forces of nature, and how to create their own unique and dynamic health philosophy – and Mason and Superfeast do a great job at that! He regularly cracks me up with his unique sense of humour! Watch a couple of his little videos on instagram and you'll know why! Mason's also the host of the Superfeast podcast, which I'm a big fan of. If you don’t know it yet, make sure you check it out. It’s honestly a well of naturally empowered wisdom. This episode today could definitely be subtitled with “natural empowerment”: We talk about Mason’s own life story and how he found his way to tonic herbalism and a new connection to his health, and we talk about how to look at our immune system from a traditional ancient Chinese/Taoist perspective and what we can do to gain strong immunity. Wind, cold, heat & dampness for example are considered natural “invaders” to our immune system – did you know? I find that pretty fascinating, and it’s also so simple. This whole episode is peppered with simple health tips you can integrate into your life right away. I feel very honoured to have Mason on my show today – this unbelievably nice, wise and funny guy! Enjoy. Find full show notes below or on the episode page: https://kathrinhecht.com/podcast-episode-14
The Ying Yang symbol that you see on any martial arts studio logo, tattoos from the 80’s and on surf board and skateboards made by T&C is a perfect metaphor for life. The eb and flow of the positive and negative, feminine and masculine, order and chaos, the light and the dark. It represents balance. The Yang is the white side of the image and the Ying is the black side. The white Yang side represents positivity, masculinity and light. The black Ying side represents the negative, feminine and darkness. Ladies! Dont get mad at me for putting you in the dark, negative side that represents chaos. I didn’t come up with this. The Ying Yang is an ancient Chinese Taoist symbol from thousands of years ago! When I practice yoga I perform a 1 hour Yang Ying routine. I start with 30 minutes of masculine, strenuous holds for a set number of breathes then transition into 30 minutes of passive feminine stretches. Once you complete the Yang portion you are dying to lay down in the pool of sweat you have created beneath you and release all the tension you built up. If you did the passive stretches without the strenuous holds they would have no meaning. The masculine holds followed by weight lifting and wind sprints would leave me unbalanced for the rest of the day. You need the Yang with the Ying! Spring is a time of awakening and full sensory immersion in the world around us - even if we aren’t gardeners or nature lovers. It is hard to avoid, ignore or miss Spring’s reckless abundance and generosity. It is the perfect counterpoint to the winter’s restful, healing darkness and dormancy. In appreciation for all of spring’s growing energy, I am pleased to be joined this week by Dr. Raymond Barnett, author of “Earth Wisdom: John Muir, Accidental Taoist, Charts Humanity’s Only Future on a Changing Planet,” which he published in 2016. In this season of worsening news about our health of our world’s climate and ecosystems, and the seemingly ever more threatening nature of political abuse of what few protections we have in place for our water, air and planet’s diversity of life in the pursuit of in misguided financial “gain” - a book like this one catches my eye, my imagination and my heart. In our interview Ray shares the story of how he came to write the book and the his own journey of studying and embracing the ancient Chinese Taoist philosophy and his recognizing its tenets in his deepening study of John Muir over the past 5 years. What results is his comparing of Taoism and John Muir’s separate but interestingly parallel “immanent world views,” in which Ray sees profound hope for the life - and heart - of our world. Once understood and adopted, Ray believes, from this immanent world view - pillaging our earth’s natural resources, abusing or dismissing the equal importance of all of its many life forms, make no sense at all to anyone, no matter your political, spiritual or economic interest. In this "immanent world view” Ray sees “three pillars”: 1. That this earthly world is our true home - there is no better place, this is not a test; 2. that we as humans are equal to, and intimately related to all other living things. Humans are not “higher” and do not have “dominion” but are 1 part of a very complex and interdependent whole; 3. That in all of life there is a critically important balance always being calibrated between opposite energies - light and dark, hard and fluid, female and male, Yin and Yang, and that if any individual, culture, or ecosystem is out of balance and overly dominated by any one energy, then it is not healthy and will not be able to sustain itself over time. It is a compelling and thought provoking conversation - join us! Ray is the author of 7 previous titles, which encompass the varied fields of study for which he has not only deep passion, but also expertise, including: evolutionary ecology, particularly that of California, Natural History, mountaineering, traditional Chinese Language and Culture, mystery fiction and John Muir.
Benebell Wen calls herself an independent metaphysician. It is a term she has created herself, wanting to tell us that she is in her esoteric work not linked to any particular school or lineage, but independent. In the interview we talk about how an ethnic background does or does not influence your approach to and work in the occult world, how you can combine having an important daytime job with being engaged in the esoteric path, and how the two influence each other mutually, and many other topics. Please note that in this episode there is no reviews and news section. They will return - together with other new developments - in August. The word “tao” means “way” and refers to the cosmic order and the way of being, the way of life. Anyone who understands and lives the Tao is in harmony with the great “what is.”The Trickster called Coyote has a specific way. Coyote’s way is the heart of the stories that are told about him. This program blends several Coyote stories with a couple of short stories about Chuang Tzu, an ancient Chinese Taoist, to explore some of the lessons Coyote might offer about the world that he created for us.The stories are sourced from Barry Lopez’s collection Giving Birth to Thunder, Sleeping With His daughter: Coyote Builds North America and The Book of Chuang Tzu translated by Martin Palmer with Elizabeth Breuilly, Chang Wai Ming, and Jay Ramsay.Support the show (https://www.patreon.com/mythmatterspodcast)

Richard Grossman The Tao of Ralph Waldo Emerson Richard Grossman is a Commonweal friend of 25 years. As a respected medical educator in “the other medicines,” (the title of another of his books), Grossman participated as a guest staff member in one of the early Commonweal Cancer Help Programs in the 1980s. He then started his own Cancer Help Program at Wainwright House in Rye, New York. He now teaches in the Smith Farm Cancer Help Program outside Washington, D.C. Grossman is a preternaturally youthful 88-year-old, married to the novelist Ann Arenberg. They live in Salisbury, Connecticut. Join Michael Lerner in this conversation about Richard’s studies and thoughts about Ralph Waldo Emerson—philosopher, essayist, poet, lecturer, and journal-keeper. Richard Grossman Richard is an essayist, psychotherapist, medical educator, and former book publisher. The six books he has written include The Tao of Emerson and A Year with Emerson, which won the Umhoefer Prize for achievement in the humanities, awarded by the Arts and Humanities Foundation. He has read Emerson daily for over 50 years. Richard’s website has Emerson’s complete journals and the bulk of his other writings on-line. Grossman considers Emerson a precursor of contemporary humanistic and transpersonal psychology. In 1970 Michael Murphy of Esalen Institute told Grossman about Roberto Assagioli, the Italian psychologist and founder of the transpersonal psychology called Psychosynthesis. Grossman published Assagioli’s books Psychosynthesis and The Act of Will in America. Grossman also discovered fundamental resonances between Emerson and Lao Tse, the mysterious Chinese Taoist and author of the Tao Te Ching. Find out more about The New School at tns.commonweal.org.
