Fiction Fixation is now out every FRIDAY! End your week right~ We watched it so you don't have to--This week we recap the movie adaptation of The Mortal Instruments, City of Bones. Based on a 400 pg book, this movie squeezes everything thing it can't onto the screen, leaving poor Rose confused and by the end wishing she had a Time Machine to unlatch the whole damn thing. Hope you enjoy our hilarious recap!
Draco Veritas? This week, V and Emily dig into just one of many messy threads in one of fandom's most famous wankfests: the drama of Cassandra Claire and her Harry Potter fic, The Draco Trilogy. When this fic was yanked from Fanfiction.net for allegations of plagiarism, reverberations echoed through fandom in ways that we're still feeling today -- from Fiction Alley all the way to Freeform. This is an episode in which we're pretty unrepentent li'l haters. Did you read the Draco Trilogy? Have you ever interacted with Cassandra Claire?

After Twilight, they tried to follow the formula and make a bunch more movies that would appeal in the same way. The Mortal Instruments fails to do this. The only thing really good in here is Jamie Campbell Bower. He tries hard while the "star" girl is just bad.The villain is even worse, the betrayal by one in the midst is inconsequential and what they want is not at all defined. Oh Hollywood, just hire some people with chemistry and then you might stand a chance of having a movie.Hate Watching is to movies what candy is to Halloween. Bad for your health, but addicting.

We cover our most infamous author yet when Renee revisits her Mortal Instruments obsession by covering City of Bones. This story about a totally normal girl who gets thrown into the world of demons and demon hunters starts off like someone misremembering Blue Bloods. We dive deep into this long story of decent world building, unrealistic dialogue, and Cassandra Clare's notoriety. Surprisingly no references are made to Nic Cage and no songs are sung, but it's still a fun time. Episode Source Materials: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

F2F's "Mortal March" kicks off with another dive into the waters of YA fantasy cinematic adaptations. This time, we're looking at a tale of half-human/half-angel warriors tasked to protect Earth from vampires, werewolves, and demons, and the "average" teenage girl pulled into their world after learning her secret destiny. It's a tale of ancient runes, goth costuming, and forbidden romance...VERY forbidden romance, in fact. Will the Hollywood version of this story have the guts to tackle one of the most controversial elements of the original book series? What is the point where "a lot" of exposition becomes "too much" exposition? And why did Phil Collins go so hard on the Disney TARZAN soundtrack? Just Saying! In this episode Books to Movies - Mortal Instruments: City of Bones This episode's theme is on one of my favorite book series - The Mortal Instruments. I will be reviewing the cast selection, translation from book to movie plot points, and the overall future of the series (if there can even be any). I love the fantasy fiction that is out there these days, but it does not always get its fair shake in the move to movies. This review will help people understand the themes involved, and hopefully peak the interest in those who may have been on the fence about seeing it.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (2013) is based off a book of the same name by Cassandra Clare. At least we're told so, but we're not sure if this film even has a plot. Starring Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lena Headey, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers, this young adult modern fantasy takes our main character Clary Fray (Collins) through the Shadow World—an alternate New York City where angels and demons are fighting a never ending battle. Scott and Max struggle with the plot at times, but decide ultimately that the source material was probably better than this end product. After all, it was turned into a Shadowhunters, a TV show currently airing on Freeform (formerly ABC Family). In 20 Questions, we try to plan a sequel to E.T. Once again, we would much rather answer your questions, so send us listener mail at TheCriticalBreakdownPodcast@gmail.com or leave it in a review for us on iTunes!
