Saul was at Kubla Autumn a new game con taking place over Veteran's Day which is celebrated here in the U.S. on November 11th. Right when he got there he sat in a seminar the dealt with the future of boardgames. In that seminar they talked about Cozy games. Saul immediately thought of Cozy RPGs. Saul noticed a lot of RPGs that would fit under this genre. He talked to Jolene about it and discussed the subject. This episode is the result of that conversation. Saul list five RPGs that he thought would fit under the genre of Cozy. His criteria was not always correct and indeed some of those discussed may not fit in Saul's Cozy criteria. After the episode Saul has noticed another "cozy" game on Kickstarter called Riverbank. It's an afternoon in late April along the Clark Fork River near Missoula, Montana, USA. The song of the tall dogbane (Apocynum cannabinum) isn't obvious, like the red-winged blackbirds (Agelaius phoeniceus) that are singing in the aspen grove on the other side of the river, or the European starlings (Sturnus vulgaris) that are nesting in the cavities of the cottonwoods. But the dogbane has a song, too, a song it sings with the wind. I can hear it this afternoon as last year's dead stalks whisper and rustle in the breeze…This month's story is all about tall dogbane, what makes this plant special to me, and (more broadly) how plants can help us. In this podcast, we follow a dogbane patch along Missoula, Montana's Clark Fork River from spring into summer. As usual, we hear a variety of natural sounds that I recorded for the story, including wind, rain, and insects in the dogbane patch, plus red-winged blackbirds, European starlings, yellow warblers (Setophaga petechia), Wilson's warblers (Cardellina pusilla), and western wood-pewees (Contopus sordidulus). In this episode, I make mention of a video by Sarah Corrigan of Roots School about gathering dogbane fibers. You can find that video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e5vPyRWGvDs.As always, I depend on the support of my listeners to continue doing this work. Ever find yourself in the middle of a client project thinking "How did I end up here?" In this candid conversation, nonprofit transition specialist Naomi Hattaway shares how she learned to stop taking on work that drained her energy and started building a practice true to her expertise. Naomi shares actionable examples of how to communicate boundaries professionally, refer work strategically, and build a business that serves both you and your clients better.5 Key Takeaways:Define Your Lane Clearly Your reputation grows stronger when you're known for specific, focused work rather than trying to be everything to everyoneSet "Riverbank" Boundaries Think of boundaries like riverbanks—firm enough to keep things flowing but flexible enough to adapt naturallyCommunicate Limits Upfront From 20-minute meetings to asynchronous communication, set expectations early about how you work bestMake Strategic Referrals Build relationships with other consultants who can handle work outside your zone of geniusProtect Your Reputation Be intentional about which projects you take on—they shape how others talk about your workFind Us Online: https://www.confessionswithjessandcindy.comConnect with Naomi: Naomi's Website:https://www.naomihattaway.com/ LinkedIn: https://linkedin.com/in/naomihattaway Podcast: https://www.naomihattaway.com/podcast Connect with Cindy:Cindy Wagman Coaching: cindywagman.comFractional Fundraising Network: fractionalfundraising.co/LinkedIn: ca.linkedin.com/in/cindywagmanConnect with Jess:Out In the Boons: outintheboons.meLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/jesscampbelloutntiheboons/Resources:Hood Wellness by Tamela J. Follow-ups on "Nightmare on Watt Street", more about Plan 2050, and asking if civic politicians played politics with commemorative awards, are what you'll hear in Episode 28! Part 1- Lots of horror stories continue to emerge after Marty's column in the Winnipeg Sun exposed a rooming house wreaking havoc on a working class neighborhood in East Kildonan. The interview with the whistleblower in the last episoderecounted the ways the City of Winnipeg has failed to protect the community. Coun. Jason Schreyer is scrambling to hold public meetings to turn things around- even as advertising appeared on Thursday to fill a vacant bedroom for $650 a month. You'll hear reaction not only from readers, but audio from a recovering addict who lived there until March, confirming one of the deaths that occured inside the Watt St. "death trap" and outraged the rental property is still operating. Harvey Smith made a point of taking a drive through his ward to see for himself what was happening at night. Do any city councillors do that anymore? No one is speaking up for area families and businesses in fear of more arsons, crime and deaths- and we will keep the pressure on to help them. Our Investigations and Interviews are made possible by generous supporters who donate to our Season 5 Funding Drive! We are within $2000 of the $5600 target- please go to the ActionLine.ca Donate page to chip in via Paypal or E-Transfer today! 23.20 Part 2- A telephone referendum, held in the RM of Springfield by a taxpayer's rights group, showed an incredible degree of opposition to Metro's Plan20-50. Will the rump WMR caucus still supporting the plan- led by Mayor Gillingham - persist in calling them "misinformed" or "conspiracy theorists"? There's 2900 folks in that RM who'd challenge the name-callers. Who would residents of Winnipeg ask if they wanted to know how Plan20-50 will affect them? Months later, the City can't answer that question. 31.00- Another story about crime and disorder affecting law-abiding property owners and residents is in the Winnipeg Sun today. Riverbank ‘garbage dump' impacting ability to attract tenants to downtown building Marty Gold spoke with a representative of the high-end apartment complex at 300 Assiniboine, who have challenged Mayor Gillingham and Premier Wab Kinew to remove the garbage-strewing, arson-starting, drug-using homeless encampments behind their building on the banks of the Assiniboine River. 33.00- Politicizing the Winnipeg 150 Awards has fueled even more cynicism towards City Hall. An email from a listener - one of many, actually- raised questions about the choices the Mayor and city councillors made for Winnipeg 150 medals, supposedly "nominated for their significant contribution to their neighbourhood or the city at large." Some are clearly deserving of recognition. Others, such as a CBC radio host with no listed volunteer activities since moving here, seem to have been beneficiaries for political purposes. Some check all the right boxes- except the boxes denoting the actual pre-requisites for the medals. Should people doing a job at a city-funded agency get an award for simply doing the jobs thay are paid to do? Coming up- Transit undermines driver and rider safety; more trouble from downtown homeless encampments; Vandal says vamanos to politics... A collected series of intertwined poetic essays written by acclaimed Japanese poet Hiromi Ito--part nature writing, part travelogue, part existential philosophy. Written between April 2012 and November 2013, Tree Spirits Grass Spirits (Nightboat Books, 2023) adopts a non-linear narrative flow that mimics the growth of plants, and can be read as a companion piece to Ito's beloved poem "Wild Grass on the Riverbank". Rather than the vertiginously violent poetics of the latter, Tree Spirits Grass Spirits serves as what we might call a phyto-autobiography: a recounting of one's life through the logic of flora. Ito's graciously potent and philosophical prose examines immigration, language, gender, care work, and death, all through her close (indeed, at times obsessive) attention to plant life. For a better understanding of this collection and the author, the following books are recommended by translator Dr. Jon Pitt: Hiromi Ito - Wild Grass on the Riverbank Hiromi Ito - The Thorn Puller Robin Wall Kimmerer - Braiding Sweetgrass Hope Jahren - Lab Girl Jeanie Shinozuka - Biotic Borders Banu Subrahmaniam - Ghost Stories for Darwin Learn more about your ad choices. As is more common than not for a free-wheeling Fresh Catch frolic, we bounced around with butterfly nets trying to catch the giggles this morning. Dr Dave's brash on-air snacking led us to explore eating etiquette. We then meandered down the winding Wabash River, giving David the chance to boldly insert himself as our Huntington tour guide. He dropped pearls of dubious, colorful local knowledge into the mix, hoping to lure vacationers to consider visiting his hometown. Just don't Google-check him; we hubbies prefer to not have our word questioned.

Come along as Glendon joins Josh, J.R. and myself, for his PTP debut, while we discuss the highs and lows of canoe camping trip, while on the riverbank.
Over the centuries the River Quoile has carried Vikings, steam ships and cargoes of coal and timber from as far afield as the Baltic and Canada. Today it's a river for leisure pursuits – popular with canoeists, anglers and wildlife enthusiasts.Cadogan Enright is a councillor, environmental campaigner and chairman of the local canoe club. He takes Helen Mark out on the river to sing its praises, but also to point out concerns. He tells her that Downpatrick and the surrounding countryside were prone to tidal flooding in the past, but now the threat comes from the land - with increasing winter storms leaving the land saturated. Helen meets Robert Gardiner, chairman of the railway museum, who shows her how the water flooded their exhibition gallery last year and has threatened the museum's financial future.Back on the riverbank, Helen meets Stephen O'Hare, a member of the River Quoile Trust which campaigns for improvements to the river. He shows her the remains of quays along the riverbank, which were once busy dockside areas for cross channel steam ships during the industrial revolution. Trade died out because of the unpredictability of the tides and the difficulties of navigating Strangford Lough out to the Irish sea, and came to a halt in 1957 when a flood barrier was built at the mouth of the river. As for the Vikings – they haven't quite disappeared. Viking historian Philip Campbell and a group of enthusiasts have built a re-enactment village and a replica longship which they sail on stretches of the Quoile. He tells Helen that, as its dragon head noses through the waters which wind around the gentle drumlin countryside, he is filled with appreciation for the beauty of the river and its importance through the centuries.Produced by Kathleen Carragher

Cheryl Thompson left her Ohio home to meet her boyfriend at a bar in Oakley. She never made it. A state natural resources officer found Thompson's body along the bank of the Little Miami River. The 19-year-old had been raped and died of asphyxia caused by strangulation. The search for Thompson's killer went on for more than 40 years and now thanks to DNA, a link was found to a man that may have been responsible for three other murders in Ohio.
