Demand for AV integration services is becoming more complex and widespread, making it increasingly difficult for integrators to scale operations without sacrificing profitability. According to AVIXA's 2024 Industry Outlook and Trends Analysis, the Pro AV market is projected to reach $422 billion by 2029, intensifying the need for flexible, scalable support. Amid these pressures, service innovations like LinkLab are helping AV integrators stay competitive while navigating labor shortages, regional growth, and evolving client expectations. So, how can integrators, especially small to mid-sized ones, expand regionally, improve operational efficiency, and take on new work without overextending their internal teams? In this episode of Pro AV Today, host Ben Thomas, sits down with Cory Allen, VP of Services at Exertis Almo, to explore how the launch of LinkLab is reshaping the way integrators approach service delivery, project scaling, and workforce development across the AV industry.Key Points from the Conversation:Strategic Rebrand with Purpose: LinkLab isn't just a new name for Exertis Almo's professional services; it reflects a clearer mission to support AV integrators with targeted, scalable solutions.Regional and National Reach: The service enables integrators to pursue business in new markets even nationwide, without the need to hire local staff or turn away opportunities due to resource constraints.Empowering New Talent: LinkLab supports industry growth by offering CTS-certified AutoCAD training, helping to upskill both newcomers and experienced technicians within the AV community.Cory Allen is a seasoned AV industry leader with over 15 years of experience in sales, services, and operations, currently serving as Vice President of Services at Exertis Almo. He has advanced through roles ranging from Territory Manager to Director and now VP, consistently driving strategic growth, operational excellence, and team development across the Pro AV sector. Allen was recognized as a Commercial Integrator 40 Under 40 honoree in 2022, underscoring his impact and leadership in the industry.
The conversation around recruitment, career paths and retention in Pro AV is gaining attention, particularly as the industry navigates the shift toward hybrid work models and the influx of new talent. Around 70% of companies are either implementing or planning to implement hybrid work models, and businesses in the AV space are rethinking how they attract and retain the next generation of leaders. As more industries recognize the role of Pro AV technology in supporting remote and hybrid environments, this shift is becoming increasingly important. But how do young professionals carve out a place in an industry steeped in tradition? How can organizations bridge the gap between evolving tech and the needs of the modern workforce? In this episode of Pro AV Today, host Ben Thomas talks with Andie Mace, Andie Mace, the Product Marketing Manager at HP, and a recent recipient of the Commercial Integrator's 40 Under 40 Award. Their conversation covers career paths in Pro AV, the role of technology in enhancing workplace well-being, and the future of marketing in a digital-first world.Key Takeaways from the Episode:Marketing Transformation in Pro AV: Andie explains the shift from traditional white papers to fast, impactful social media content, highlighting the growing importance of thought leadership and employee satisfaction. The Human Impact of Technology: She stresses that while technology is vital, its real power lies in how it fosters human connections and boosts productivity, especially in hybrid work environments.Navigating Resistance: Andie reflects on the challenge of discussing emotional well-being in the workplace and how it impacts productivity, despite some pushback within the industry.Andie Mace, Product Marketing Manager at HP, has emerged as a thought leader in the Pro AV industry, contributing fresh ideas since joining after HP's acquisition of Poly. Her passion for technology and focus on human-centered solutions recently earned her a spot on the Commercial Integrator 40 Under 40 list, recognizing her as a rising star in the field.
In this exclusive interview with Commercial Integrator, Simon LeDuc, product and technology manager, Clockaudio North America, discusses a range of topics with Dan Ferrisi, group editor, commercial and security, Emerald. The duo begins by chatting about the steps Clockaudio is taking to support the newer generation of field technicians as skill sets evolve and change. Then, LeDuc shares tips for installers to help save them money and time. They also discuss techniques every tech should know (or know better). Later in the conversation, LeDuc provides insights into what makes Clockaudio USB solutions different from the rest, while also exploring the reasons why it might make sense to go with a condenser gooseneck rather than a dynamic mic, headset or built-in mic. This nearly half-hour podcast is jam-packed with information from LeDuc, who, as a Clockaudio executive, works for one of the most innovative companies in the audio category today. Enjoy the conversation!
In this exclusive interview with Commercial Integrator, Brian Soto of Optoma talks about the house of worship market, focusing in particular on projection's enduring utility in these environments. During the conversation with Dan Ferrisi, group editor, commercial and security, Emerald, Soto talks about Optoma's wide range of feature-rich products, which suit everything from more intimate worship settings to grander-scale spaces. Plus, Soto emphasizes the company's solutions-centered approach to the market. He also underscores that today's projectors are both very bright and highly portable, factors that contribute to their usefulness in worship environments.

Recorded April 26, 2024 The AV industry has a bit of a drinking problem and step one is admitting it. Thanks to friends of the show Brittany DiCesare and Steve Greenblatt for their editorial in Commercial Integrator. To be clear, we're not anti-alcohol and we all enjoy a drink or four at our industry events, but when event after event after event is nothing but drinking, maybe it's time to rethink things. Heck, there are entire organizations who seem to exist solely for the purpose of drinking and it's a bit tiresome. Ok, off the soapbox. We're joined by Jose Mozota, President of Fremen Solutions, to talk about some of the challenges, opportunities, and solutions around AVoIP. This started as the simple question of “which one is best” and ended up a wide ranging conversation about manufacturer adoption, network topology, proprietary and open codecs, why no one really cares about 4:4:4 color subsampling or 4K resolution, and why AVoIP is an inaccurate acronym. Finally, we share some listener feedback that sums up why we do what we do. Recorded March 8, 2024 More and more AVoIP systems are being sold because more and more AVoIP systems are getting specified into new projects. It's an amazing coincidence! We cover an article from Commercial Integrator about how commercial integrators see AVoIP. Then in part 27 of our 213 part series on how we organize our AV systems into buckets, tiers, levels, types, packages, etc., we finally get out of our level 1 and into level 2… sorta. If nothing else, it's highly informative for AVSF internally because several of us are making adjustments based on the feedback from the rest of the panel. Finally, people are wearing Apple goggles to the movies! Well, they are, but that's not the point of this social media post that proposes burning down all movie theaters and staying at home to watch TV in your goggles. CTI acquiring Vistacom — news that broke Feb. 13 — is arguably the biggest pro AV merger and acquisition news in months. That's why Commercial Integrator brought together John Laughlin, CEO and president of CTI, as well as Angela Nolan, formerly the CEO of Vistacom, to give AV+ the inside scoop. Here, they touch on how the deal came together and, more importantly, why each company chose the other. In this candid discussion, Laughlin and Nolan go into detail on the timeline for the acquisition, why this was the right time for Vistacom to become part of a larger organization, how the move affects existing Vistacom team members, what it means for the future of the command-and-control segment, and how existing Vistacom customers will benefit from leveraging CTI's infrastructure. This half-hour conversation addresses all the things you're dying to know about CTI's acquisition of Vistacom, with the answers coming straight from the principals in the deal.Check it out!
Welcome to the new year! Although we've only had a few hours to take it all in, we're already talking about what the year has in store for the AV industry. Actually, we're also talking to some experts in the industry about what they thought the biggest stories were all the way back in 2023 as well. Joining us this week is Amala Reddie from Commercial Integrator, Mark J. Pescatore from SCN, and Jeremy Glowacki from Residential Tech Today. We look at what made waves in 2023, and what might impact the AV industry in this coming year.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Recorded November 10, 2023 We start with an article written by a commercial integrator about commercial integrators in Commercial Integrator. While the points the raise are valid (for some), it raises the question as to who is the intended audience. Then we're joined by Johanna Pierson from the Wentworth Institute of Technology to talk about how smaller schools do classroom AV, events, conference rooms, and everything in between (except printers). She shares her experiences with a small systems integrator who is a true partner with Johanna's team and how they've fostered a mutually beneficial relationship. Hello everyone and welcome to AV+ your weekly source for integration industry news. I'm you're host Jonathan Blackwood, editorial director of Commercial Integrator, and this is the news for the week of August 20th, 2021. Today's guest is Richard McPherson of Sharp NEC Display solutions to discuss ActiveScene.
Recorded June 18, 2021 Trade shows are back and that means lists upon lists of trade show awards! We look at a list from ISE by Commercial Integrator and CE Pro and note some awards that make sense and some that seem suspicious. Also, Jamie really doesn't like “listicles” like this. Then, let's talk AV department branding and identity? What is our current AV department called? Are those names out of date or still accurate? What should we be called in 2021? In a super non-scientific study, Chris gathered 25-30 names from universities around the country (but he didn't note which name came from which school) and we're pretty sure some version of your department name is in there somewhere. Hopefully this spurs some similar discussions at your school. Finally, what actually happens when someone presses the “Power Off” button on your touch panels or button panels? Are we really powering off equipment or just telling the users that so everything is ready immediately for the next user? What about remote power control? Are you using that and if not, why are you doing it wrong? PoE is great until it isn't. And Justin reveals that all the instructors at WKU are required to strap two yard sticks together and flip the rocker switches on the back of ceiling-mounted projectors at the end of every class. Speaking of which, Larry suggested we share our current AV industry pet peeves and there is no shortage of things that are bothering us, be they from manufacturers, integrators, vendors, or even other universities. In the interest of time, some of us didn't get to all of our list, so there's plenty more where that came from. It was quite cathartic, actually. Finally, while it may be well known to some, we didn't realize that Zoom is providing full commercial AV designs for everything from conference rooms to classrooms to telepresence suites. The designs are quite comprehensive, but use multiple manufactures where they're not always necessary (in our opinion). If nothing else, the Zoom designs are a good place to start.
