In this episode Jacob shares the similarities and differences between athletic training and medical device sales, advanced networking techniques, what the interview process is like from a candidate's perspective, how to make yourself stand out, what 99% of candidates don't do, and what the first year in medical device sales is like.

My name is Eric Mariasis and I have been working full-time as a software engineer for almost 10 years. My formal background and schooling is in Computer Science with a focus in engineering (basically it just means that I also took standard engineering courses such as Chemistry, Physics and Calculus).Career wise my day jobs have all been at large companies with at least a several thousand employees. One company I worked at for the majority of my career and around the beginning of COVID I switched to working for my current company. The software tools I focused on earlier in my career were mainly the C++ and MATLAB programming languages along with some Perl and Jenkins which is a tool to run code scripts automatically. Then I shifted to working primarily in Java with REST APIs which I do currently. I have also been something called a Scrum MasterI also am working on a Master's degree in Data Science which I'm almost 80% of the way through, and I independently tutor programming as well as math. There can sometimes be a high barrier to entry to become a programmer or software engineer and part of what I hope to do through tutoring and mentorship is to help people have an easier time breaking into the field. In addition to software engineering I could speak about the topics of earning side income through your own business and about working on a Master's degree while working full-time.

With the pandemics effect dressing I wrote 2 extensive online courses. The possibility is that the pandemic will not totally cancel culture. The courses show that each of us has a personal culture that contributes to humanity at large. My book/courses are "The Wardrobe Game" ``Grooming your mind and Body" and The Philosophy of Fit- how to build your own tailoring business without sewing. I have 30 year roots as a cutter and patternmaker to be able to achieve bespoke fit. My interest is to redeem the loss of tailoring standards lost with European tailors in WW2, as well as how society can review the sanctity of the body once appreciation of the craft of tailoring is reached. Much like wine tasting to prevent alcoholism. In fact a good suit is like an old wine, it gets better with age. Appreciation of one's taste and bodily parameters is everyman's business. Tailored garments are like slow food, it should be a good proportion of our consumption for long term benefits as well as short term pleasures. After 40 years of training as a cutter and designer, I am confident that the course with webinars can be automated to build national factories for less centralized, less globalized and a more sustainable business model. (less slave labour) Designers will be supported with back-ends sites such as Suitstyler.com and Planet-tailored.com (This is the world's first consumer app for standards of fit). Online training will be the first time since the invention of "retail sizes" for a scalable industry. Now with web efficiencies a tailoring designer is all one needs to have a coordinated wardrobe package designed. I believe there is great value and self-employment for people in the 21st C. Having a tailoring designer should move men past the material into the richness of their tailored relationship. This is the opposite of retail sales, “cow call mentality” where only the price fits.
Dr. Douyon is a Board Certified Neurologist who completed his residency in Neurology at New York University and fellowship at New York Presbyterian-Cornell in Clinical Neurophysiology. He's spent the last several years caring for people with neurological disorders, with a special emphasis on people with a history of epilepsy, seizures, and non-epileptic events. After spending years witnessing the deleterious affects of neurological disorders, Dr. Douyon realized that there were better ways to serve people and prevent the decline of brain health, while supporting total body health. The solution is simple: Take charge of your brain!Whether you're at risk for neurological diseases, living with a neurological disease, supporting a family member, or looking to change your lifestyle, Dr. Douyon believes that taking charge of your brain, is the first step in relief, change, and healing.Medications do little to modify the underlying disease process. After years of observing the delicate balancing act between side effects and symptom relief, Dr. Douyon realized that he could do better for the people he served. The Inle BrainFit Institute offers a therapeutic, supportive environment, aimed at using a multi-modal approach to improve the lives of people with neurological disorders and promote brain health

I always struggled on what I wanted to pursue with my life. It's a big question for any college kid to answer. The truth non of them know, not one. Because you don't know what you wanna spend the rest of your life doing until, you're in the toughest aspect of any job. A few examples for me is I went to Alabama as a political science major. Then Transferred to a local community college/Rowan for a sociology degree. Work wise, I worked 50 hour weeks paying back debt at Chick-Fil-A then worked for PNC Bank as a bank teller. It was at PNC bank where my life started to switch. They were generally overpaying me to do simple work and it was all perfect, until in January my entire family got COVID 19 which made me leave work to take care of them. Following that I was having issues with a stomach ulcer, going to the hospital every 2 weeks for constant vomiting, and that's when I was fired from PNC bank for missing too much work. And that brought me ALL THE WAY back to square 1 of what the hell am I doing? That was when my brother reached out to me telling me he was started to pick up some serious business for his new company LegalEase Marketing and that's got some work for me. I was hesitant at first because if you know me and my brother, both of our friends always say, “You guys are like the same person.” And I guess that's what always pushed me away from doing something that I was potentially really really good at, and really, really enjoyed. And within a month of managing my first client's social media and graphics, his new sessions are at 78%, increase of 16%, his bounce rate dropped 75% to 11% TOTAL, and pages per session increased 41% to 3 pages per session. All after just one month. And that was the moment I was like, this is what I'm meant to do.

While developing the menu he created a weekly rotating cocktail simply titled “Something & Tonic”, an ever-changing drink with a foundation of tonic water, tonic syrup, or liqueur bittered with cinchona. The challenge of using tonic in innovative ways provoked his interest into tonic's origins and its growing presence in modern day drinking culture. After the restaurant's opening Nicolas' cocktails began garnering attention. In the Chicago Tribune the “Something & Tonic” was given special mention in veteran food writer Phil Vettel's favorable two star review of the restaurant where he writes:"Kokonas offers a tidy list of five or six cocktails, of which the most interesting is the Something and Tonic, which changes week to week. I don't know if Kokonas can sustain this for a year, but I've managed to have three versions of this drink, and so far, so good."Moving on from The Heritage, Nick recently spent two years running a beverage program in Charleston, SC at the Southern food icon The Grocery. He has since returned to Chicago, and is working diligently to complete and publish Something & Tonic with your help

I am a Board Certified and Award-Winning Plastic Surgeon. I have served as the Chief of Plastic Surgery and Chief of the Department of Surgery for Jackson North Medical Center in Miami, FL. I specialize in whole body surgical & non-surgical cosmetic treatments for both women and men. I can discuss the latest innovations and procedures to help people make proper and informed choices. I am also a patient advocate and passionate about sharing the good, the bad and the ugly about common plastic surgery practices to help patients navigate the world of plastic surgery effectively and safely. My goal is to help people make their best choices about the latest and most innovative procedures. My active role as a whistle blower for patient safety has resulted in numerous litigations and defamation campaigns against me (from within the medical community). Most recently, I came under attack by Simon Ourian, a General Practitioner who became a celebrity cosmetic doctor, by performing procedures on the Kardashians. Dr. Ourian, surgeon to the stars, orchestrated a fake smear campaign with the help of a Russian company to discredit my practice. The reviews were retaliation against me for posting a series of videos on Instagram that were critical of Dr. Ourians credentials and disciplinary history (he is not qualified to perform the procedures he offers). My reputation took a nosedive overnight after dozens of fake reviews were posted online. Fortunately, my story caught National attention and the entire retaliatory campaign was uncovered by an investigative report on INSIDE EDITION. I can be seen interviewed in the expose piece here https://ietv.co/3fbbbSz . Reputation and credentials are everything when choosing a plastic and cosmetic surgeon. I was lucky INSIDE EDITION chose to cover the story and save my practice from a world-famous cosmetic doctor and his attempt to orchestrate fake reviews against me. At the end of the day, I continue to advocate for patient safety and expose bad practice within my industry--no matter the risk. That's why I have recently launched #ItsNotAllTheSame Social Media Series on my YouTube and Instagram accounts @drrubinstein and @plasticsurgerytruths. View the new episode here: https://youtu.be/h-1k-2R08g8You can learn more on my website www.dr-rubinstein.com and social channels including: Instagram accounts @drrubinstein and @plasticsurgerytruths, SnapChat @drrubinstein, and Facebook page @MiamiPlasticSurgeon.
