Welcome back, you bloody space pirates! Thank you for tuning in to another episode of the Star Wars Re-Watch Podcast. This episode is a bit out of order—I meant to edit the previous one first, but here I am working on Episode III. Not a big deal! I'll try not to spoil my thoughts on the last episode as we dive into this exciting continuation of the story. At this point, the children are lost in space. SM-33 navigates them to their port of origin, which turns out to be a bustling pirate base hidden within an asteroid. Unfortunately, the children find themselves captured and must figure out a way to escape. Luckily, they gain an unexpected ally—another prisoner! Here we're introduced to Jod Na Nawood, a Force-wielding “Jedi.” While Whim is ecstatic to meet a Jedi in real life, Fern and KB are skeptical of Jod's claims. Despite their doubts, they strike a deal to help one another. The pirates are ultimately foiled, but not before the children convince Jod to rescue SM-33 before making their daring escape. They jump to lightspeed while still tethered to a fuel line—talk about close calls! Jod, Fern, Neel, KB, and SM-33 escape Port Borgo and head to meet Jod's associate, Kh'ymm. This encounter raises more questions about Jod's true identity. Kh'ymm refers to him as Crimson Jack, marking his third alias so far (the pirates had called him Silvo). Kh'ymm aids the group by deciphering symbols from Fern's backpack to locate At Attin. However, Jod immediately realizes that Kh'ymm has alerted the New Republic. As the kids negotiate yet another deal with Jod to ensure their safe return home, X-wings arrive near the observatory and open fire on their ship. This episode deepens the mystery surrounding At Attin, a legendary location tied to the Old Republic. Generations have passed without anyone from the Republic or Empire reaching it, as the so-called “barrier” obscures it and makes navigation nearly impossible. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Kh'ymm's knowledge of At Attin and its connection to other “jewels of the Republic” was fascinating. I hope you found it just as intriguing! Thank you for listening or watching! With all the talk about Crimson Jack in Skeleton Crew we felt this was a perfect time to share another Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics episode! Issue #108 “Forever Crimson!” (2019), is a special continuation of Issue #50 “The Crimson Forever” (1981). This was part of Marvel's 80th Anniversary celebration in 2019 where they added this issue 33 years after the classic Star Wars series ended in 1986.    Richard and Sarah break down “Forever Crimson!” - it's story, artwork, and the HUGE amount of Star Wars EU Easter eggs! Jaxxon and Amaiza are back! Valance the Hunter and Domina Tagge make an appearance. This comic even references vornskr and the witches of Dathomir. Could there be more references to pop culture in this comic than SKELETON CREW?? Let's find out.   We recommend watching the video version (above) of this episode which contains the full comic as we page through it.   #108 “FOREVER CRIMSON"   Release Date: May 29, 2019 Writer: Matthew Rosenberg Artwork: Giuseppe Camuncoli, Andrea Broccardo, Kerry Gammill, Ze Carlos, Jan Duursema, Stefano Landini, Luke Ross, Cam Smith, Chris Sotomayer, and Leonard Kirk Cover Art:  Walt Simonson and Antonio Fabela   The cosmic civil war is over! The Empire has fallen. The tyrannical Dark Lords of the Sith who ruled the galaxy, Emperor Palpatine and Darth Vader, are destroyed, and the heroic Rebel Alliance has restored freedom to the star systems with the formation of the New Republic.   But a long-forgotten threat, one more terrible than even the Sith, is still out there in the wilds of deep space, and its return could annihilate all life in the galaxy! Once again, only the freedom fighters Princess Leia Organa, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo can hope to stand against the forces of evil. This is their story!   We take our Facebook Group Comments on the cover into account as we analyze this issue. Who made the mistake at Disney Plus and typed in "astrogRation" instead of "astrogation" and does it really matter? Is At-Attin the treasure planet from "Treasure Planet" or are the people of the last remaining "jewel of the Old Republic" just money changers? Is Jod a former Jedi? What was going on between Crimson Jack and Kh'ymm? Can we just call her an owlcat or is that too easy? Will Fern ever stop trying to be like her mom? Will Wim ever grow up? Will Nooma get Neel some nasal strips for that snore? What's wrong with K-B, according to her parents, because she seems like the most put together of the core four? Is the Supervisor someone or a species we already know or is it a droid with a personality? Are the rest of the hidden planets really destroyed or is that just more propaganda? What IS the Great Work?Do I have answers for all these questions? Yes. Are they the correct ones? I don't know.Episode 3 of Skeleton Crew brings more fun and more questions. I don't know how well the show is doing, but I do want another season, even though I have no idea how that would go. My hope is the kids just want to go on an adventure and find the other planets, because as it turns out, no one can find them to tell them its safe to come out of hiding. Well, is it safe to come out of hiding? The poor kids get to find out their school on At-Attin has missed some galactic sized events.Jude Law is very solid as the adult lead. The kids are more than alright. The writing has been very good and the action fun. The plot continues to unfold. Did we mention the aurabesh? There's so much aurabesh.Hats off to David Lowery. This is the Way Podcast's special Skeleton Crew guest co-host once again gives her take on how the show looks and feels to a younger audience. We may not be able to call it "space navigation" anymore, after seeing and looking up the meaning of the title. It makes sense, except...should we be calling it navi-GRATION? Prepare to be amazed as we learn the new-old name (names plural?) of the pirate captain previously known as Captain Silvo, now known to us as Jod Na Nawood, but once upon a time or to some others he goes by Crimson Jack?An OWL-CAT species? Who can we trust? Is Fern too focused on being right or is Wim being a little too hasty to follow a dangerous criminal? Do you recall the first ever expanded Star Wars Universe story waaay back in 1977? Long before Thrawn, Mara Jade, and Exar Kun there was Crimson Jack, Serji-X, and Jaxxon in Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics! Cary Gordon (Metal Geeks Podcast / Comicpalooza Podcast Manager) join us to break down these four comic issues. We go over the story, reveal lots of FTOOM Fast Facts, and share what these comics have meant to us and the greater Star Wars universe over 45 years.   Comics discussed:   Star Wars Issue #7: New Planets/New Perils Star Wars Issue #8: Eight for Aduba-3 Star Wars Issue #9: Showdown on a Wasteland World Star Wars Issue #10: The Behemoth from Below   We recommend watching the video version (above) of this episode which contains the full comic as we page through it.     Story Synopsis:   After the award ceremony on Yavin 4, Han Solo and Chewbacca head out to pay their debt to Jabba the Hutt when they're attacked by pirates led by Crimson Jack! With their reward money from the Rebel Alliance stolen, the smugglers decide to lay low on the planet Aduba-3. There, they take a job defending a moisture farmer from a local gang known as the Cloud-Riders. However, they can't defend the village alone so they hire several mercenaries, including Jaxxon!   During the Cloud Rider attack, The Behemoth, a giant reptilian monster, is summoned and Han Solo may be the village's only hope for survival.   This arc was written by Roy Thomas, Howard Chaykin, and Donald F. London, 1942.A killer going by the name of “Crimson Jack” is stalking the wartime streets of London, murdering women on the exact dates of the infamous Jack the Ripper killings of 1888. Has the Ripper somehow returned from the grave? Is the self-styled Crimson Jack a descendant of the original Jack—or merely a madman obsessed with those notorious killings? In desperation Scotland Yard turn to Sherlock Holmes, the world's greatest detective. Surely he is the one man who can sift fact from legend to track down Crimson Jack before he completes his tally of death. As Holmes and the faithful Watson tread the blacked out streets of London, death waits just around the corner.Inspired by the classic film series from Universal Pictures starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce, which took Sherlock Holmes to the 1940s, this is a brand-new adventure from a talented author who brilliantly evokes one of mystery fiction's most popular characters.Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/houseofmysteryradio. In this episode we look at 1978's Star Wars #13: 'DAY OF THE DRAGON LORDS!'. Is this a “filler episode”? Why is Chewbacca about to kill Luke Skywalker?? Randy Martinez gives us an update on his Star Wars Celebration Orlando official Art Show exclusive art. Richard, Sarah and Star Wars artist Randy Martinez dive into this classic Marvel Star Wars comic. Title: "DAY OF THE DRAGON LORDS!" Release Date: April 11, 1978 Writer: Archie Goodwin Consulting Editor: Jim Shooter Penciller: Carmine Infantino, Terry Austin Cover Art: John Byrne Synopsis: Luke Skywalker has been forced to join Governor Quarg's group in their battle against the Dragon Lords. Meanwhile aboard Crimson Jack's space cruiser, Han Solo is trying to talk his way out of trouble when Jack realizes that they have been duped into coming to Drexel. But Quarg's jamming equipment on the planet's surface causes a disruption on the space cruiser, which is enough of a diversion to allow Solo, Chewbacca, and Princess Leia Organa to escape in the Millennium Falcon to the surface below. The Falcon splashes onto the water covered surface of Drexel, right in the middle of an epic battle between Quarg's men and the Dragon Lords with Luke Skywalker caught right in the middle. Join us as we review the story and get an artistic analysis from Randy Martinez. Learn more about Comic Book Legend and artist John Byrne. We then go over our favorite panel, favorite line and most un-Star Wars moment from this issue. We asked for your opinions on the cover art and you came through with some great feedback.   Have fun with us and may the classic comics be with you... "At last! Beyond The Movie! Beyond the Galaxy!” reads the cover of each issue of the Marvel Star Wars comics from 1977 and beyond. Richard, Sarah and Star Wars artist Randy Martinez dive into these classic Marvel Star Wars comics from the 1970's and 1980's. In this episode we look at Star Wars #12: 'DOOMWORLD!' Well, this comic MUST be good because the title is in all caps! There's also a ROGUE ONE reference, and you will have to help us settle a big debate on just which Star Destroyer appears in this comic. Title: "DOOMWORLD!" Release Date: March 14, 1978 Writer: Archie Goodwin Consulting Editor: Jim Shooter Penciller: Carmine Infantino, Terry Austin Synopsis: Luke Skywalker, C-3PO and R2-D2 are still stranded on the water world Drexel. However they are caught in the middle of a battle between the sea-dragons, one ridden by a Dragon Lord; and hydra craft piloted by Governor Quarg's scavengers. The combatants are battling for the prize of Luke's wrecked ship, as anything mechanical is a rare commodity on this ocean-covered planet. Luke and the droids are captured and brought back to their base where Luke tries to convince Quarg that the droids would be more useful to them intact instead of being stripped down for parts. Meanwhile, Han Solo is leading Crimson Jack and his gang of pirates to the Drexel system under the pretense that there is treasure to be found. Join us as we review the story and get an artistic analysis from Randy Martinez. Learn more about the Penciler vs. Inker vs. Colorist. We then go over our favorite panel, favorite line and most un-Star Wars moment from this issue. We asked for your opinions on the cover art and you came through with some great feedback.
