We don't remember a whole lot of this movie but we're guessing there are a bunch of punks who don't know who they're messing with and get what's coming to them. So we're just wondering if this is a sequel that tried something new or pretty much followed the same formula as the first film. Join us as we go back to 1982 and watch Charles Bronson clean up the streets of New York, we mean L.A, again, or for the first time, because it's L.A. or, well... we don't know. We just hope it's good. Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

Alex Shephard, senior writer for The New Republic, returns to Junk Filter to discuss two demented grindhouse classics from the English director Michael Winner, the notorious Charles Bronson thriller Death Wish 3 (1985) and a recently rediscovered home invasion melodrama from the year prior, Scream For Help. Both films have much in common: two trashy and violent melodramas, both set in New York State but mostly filmed in London. each with an original soundtrack from a member of Led Zeppelin! Alex says Death Wish 3 is a work of American fascist art, a proto-MAGA vision that helps to explain today's reactionary conservative mindset. Scream For Help is like an R-rated After School Special that couldn't be made today and is a must-watch for DW3 heads. Plus! A supersized post-mortem of the World Cup in Qatar, including the greatest WC final ever, Messi securing GOAT status, the crashing-out of Cristano Ronaldo from elite status in football, and how journalists managed to cover the tournament while also combatting the sportswashing efforts of FIFA and the host country. This week we are returning to familiar territory; Michael Winner and Charles Bronson's Paul Kersey Cinematic Universe (It's a thing if we want it to be!) and Death Wish II.Who was originally tapped to write the soundtrack? Are those the Kids from Nuke 'em High? How did Bronson hook Jill Ireland? HOW?!The boys are joined by Artist and Writer Paul Payne who is the genius behind the 'Horror and Action Video Store' group on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/groups/126651552357031/?ref=share). Paul also has has a limited edition Comic RAMBO VERSUS THE BLAIR WITCH out this week which is limited to just 50 copies and features the Bonus Story: A DEATH WISH FOR JASON. If you are fast, you can buy through Paul's Etsy store here https://www.facebook.com/groups/126651552357031/?ref=share---Death Wish II is a 1982 American vigilante action film directed and co-edited by Michael Winner. It is the first of four sequels to the 1974 film Death Wish. It is the second installment in the Death Wish film series. In the story, architect Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) moves to Los Angeles with his daughter (Robin Sherwood). After his daughter is murdered at the hands of several gang members, Kersey once again chooses to become a vigilante. Unlike the original, in which he hunts down every criminal he encounters, Kersey only pursues his family's attackers. The sequel makes a complete breakaway from the Brian Garfield novels Death Wish and Death Sentence, redefining the Paul Kersey character. It was succeeded by Death Wish 3.The sequel was produced by Cannon Films, which had purchased the rights to the Death Wish concept from Dino De Laurentiis. Cannon executive Menahem Golan planned to direct the film, but Winner returned on Bronson's insistence. The soundtrack was composed by guitarist Jimmy Page. Death Wish II was released in the United States in February 1982 by Filmways Pictures, but like the original, Columbia Pictures handled the international release and Paramount Pictures, via Trifecta Entertainment and Media, handles the television rights. It earned $16.1 million during its domestic theatrical run. Death Wish II was released in the United States on February 19, 1982 and released in the United Kingdom on February 11, 1982Support the show (https://www.buymeacoffee.com/100things)

It’s another solo mini-sode with Mike at the helm and this time around, the topic at hand is Jimmy Page’s rendition of Frédéric Chopin’s “Prelude in E Minor, O. 28, N. 4.” This unusual piece - which Page included on his offbeat soundtrack for Charles Bronson’s Death Wish II - became a staple in Page’s live sets from ’83 through ’88, including his appearances at the ARMS concert series, the numbers he contributed to the Willie and the Poor Boys project, his years with The Firm, and his Outrider tour. This episode covers some of the more noteworthy performances of "Prelude," many of which were performed by Page on his Fender Brown B-Bender Telecaster. Also up for discussion are some notes on the life and work of Chopin and a look at how The Firm used a piece from Gustav Holst’s “The Planets” to introduce their live shows during their first tour. Included in the show are samples of work by Chopin and Holst. Related, recommended, and required resources for this episode: “A Brief History of Fredric Chopin” A short biographical sketch for the YouTube pianoTV “The Guitar Show” featuring Jimmy Page A clip from 1985 in which Jimmy shows off some of his guitars, including his B-Bender “Prelude” by Jimmy Page Performed at the 1983 ARMS show in London “These Arms of Mine” by Willie and the Poor Boys The official video featuring Jimmy Page playing his B-Bender

Well, there's nothing else going on, so we might as well podcast about three weird flicks. And to help us feel a connection to the outside world, we've outsourced those picks to our Patreon donors! Will their picks get us lifted in these wild times? Up first! You remember that famous old superhero, Super Sonicman? No? Makes sense. He was actually just a weird one-off copycat of Superman for the Spanish Silver Screen in this 1979 feature from Juan Piquer Simón (director of Pieces). (picked by Jeff P) Next up! Y'all ever seen that 1982 revenge thriller where a mild-manner working class man's wife is raped and child murdered, causing him to go on a murderous rampage for justice? No, not Death Wish II. It's Bill Lustig's Vigilante! Swap Charles Bronson for Robert Forster, swap LA for NYC, and swap the racist undertones for the charming Fred Williamson and you'll have and idea of what we've gotten ourselves into. (picked by Andreas) Finally! It's a third film: Arena (1989), a movie wherein shirtless oiled muscle men do outer space hand-to-hand gladitorial combat with devil-faced alien creatures. That's all we needed to know. (picked by Mickey) All this plus a Parker on the brink of insanity, Sean's Critter Corner, Kevin's present-day theatrical experiences, the Shelbyville Skyline Drive-In Movie Theater Skycade as an analogue for the Berlin Wall, an update on the dab lab, continued WrestlemaniaChats, an allusion to that time former co-host Rusty walked out of an interview, does Conrad Brooks make an appearance?, tracking Kevin's ghoulish tendencies, our weekly news plus Blu-ray Picks and even more! A Valentine's Day, double Time Phone special! We speak to St Valentine himself about his legal issues, watch Cannon Classic Movie 'Death Wish 2' and speak to none other than Walt Disney about where his ideas come from. SHOW NOTES Saint Valentine was a widely recognized 3rd-century Roman saint, commemorated in Christianity on February 14. From the High Middle Ages, his Saints' Day has been associated with a tradition of courtly love. He is also a patron saint of epilepsy. Death Wish II is a 1982 American vigilante action film directed and co-edited by Michael Winner. It is the first of four sequels to the 1974 film Death Wish.
