After their debut album, The Firm, hit gold in the US in 1985, fans figured that Jimmy Page and Paul Rodgers would tour to support it and not only play songs off the album but also include hits from their back catalogs. While expecting reworked Led Zeppelin and Bad Company songs, they instead got songs from Paul Rodgers 1983 solo album Cut Loose and Jimmy's Death Wish II soundtrack. Then, Jimmy's performance with his old LZ bandmates at Live Aid was considered an outright disaster. Everyone figured the 2nd Firm album would be Jimmy finally putting on his old Guitar God robes and delivering what they'd been waiting for. Unfortunately, Mean Business never really lived up to the fans expectations and though there were a few flashes, the guitar heroics were missing. Despite the extraordinary work of bassist Tony Franklin, whose writing contribution Dreaming is a standout on the album, it was as if Jimmy was just going through the motions. Though Paul's voice is as strong and rich as ever, most of the lyrics weren't very deep or super relatable. The steady hand of UAWIL guest Chris Slade on the drums gave everyone the space to do what they wanted but for Jimmy, it wasn't inspiring. You saw glimpses in the solo on Live in Peace and on a couple of others but if you were waiting for Jimmy to cut loose, well it never really happened. There are highlights like All The Kings Horses which hit #1 on the US rock charts for 4 weeks in early 1986 and the closer Spirit of Love lets everyone do their thing. Fortune Hunter is rifftastic in getting the album going but there's a slow down around 3:30 that kills the momentum. Cadillac is so long and murky that it's almost unlistenable - why did they choose that as the second song? Eventually, all involved went on to do other things as members of supergroups always do. It was an incredible lineup but they just couldn't capture the magic that fans were hoping for when they learned about The Firm. Our discussion tracks how the equity and bond markets behaved leading up to, and following, the meeting, and what we might expect in the future. Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 29ú lá de mí Iúil, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1976 tháinig an nuacht amach go raibh an príosún I bPortlaoise ag gearradh siar ar daoine ag teacht chuig an áit. I 1988 rinne nach mór 10 míle duine iarratas ó 3 ilchríoch don phost a bhí 50 punt gach seachtain agus iad ag traenáil mar gharda. I 2003 fuair daoine muisiriún mór ar feirm timpeall Béal Átha Gabhann. Tháinig sé amach go raibh sé 9 n-orlach agus tháinig Tommy Dooley abhaile leis agus fuair sé é air fheirm a sheanathair. Cheap daoine go raibh sé an muisiriún is mó a fuair duine riamh – ach ní raibh siad ábalta é a thástáil mar ith duine é. I 2012 bhí Baile na gCailleach mar óstach den Fhéile Cut Loose a bhí lán de ghéine, buataisí agus bandána agus bhí a lán ceol tíre ann I gcomparáid leis an Novena chuig Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Sin Elton John agus Kiki Dee le Don't Go Breaking My Heart – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 1976. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1968 rinne The Beatles taifead ar a amhrán Hey Jude a raibh seacht nóiméad don chéad uair. I 1973 chan Led Zeppelin don tríú huair I Madison Square Garden ag deireadh den turas ceol a raibh 33 dáta. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Joey Essex sa Bhreatain I 1990 agus rugadh aisteoir Will Wheaton I Meiriceá ar an lá seo I 1972 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 29th of July, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1976: Portlaoise jail introduced cutback on jail visits. 1988: Almost 10,000 people from 3 continents applied for the £50 a-week garda training jobs. 2012 - Holycross, normally more renowned for hosting the annual Novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help in September, but it boasted a pilgrimage of a different kind when disciples of country and western music would don their Stetsons and jeans, boots and bandanas for the Cut Loose Festival.   2003- A giant mushroom found on a farm near Silvermines this week has caused a bit of a stir. The mushroom, which measured a massive 9 inches across, was brought home by four-year-old Tommy Dooley who found it on his grandfather's farm at Kilboy. Could it have been a record for a mushroom? Hard to know as the evidence was eaten.  That was Elton John and Kiki Dee with Don't Go Breaking My Heart – the biggest song on this day in 1976 Onto music news on this day In 1968 The first recording session of The Beatles seven-minute epic ‘Hey Jude' took place. 1973 Led Zeppelin played the last of three nights at Madison Square Garden, New York at the end of a 33-date North American tour. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Joey Essex with born in the UK in 1990 and actor Will Wheaton was born in America on this day in 1972 and this is some of the stuff he has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

After launching a global anti-trafficking movement in his teens, Chris Schrader didn't settle down—he leveled up.In Part Two, the founder of the 24 Hour Race draws parallels between navigating the Gobi Desert and leading high-growth businesses across continents. From dropping out of Harvard to leading expeditions and scaling software companies, Chris shares why building teams isn't about maximizing your strongest players—it's about supporting your weakest. And why sometimes, real leadership means being the “secretary of the team,” not the star. This episode goes beyond business tactics and into the mindset behind meaningful leadership. It's a deep dive into servant leadership, self-doubt, ruthless decision-making, and how to chase your personal North Star—even if you never reach it.Key Highlights of Our Interview:When ISIS Threats and Identity Crises Collide“Some challenges are existential—like not knowing what we are. Others are urgent—like whether to cancel an event after a terror threat.”The Expedition Analogy: Climbing Unmapped Peaks“Trying to grow an organization is like summiting a mountain no one's climbed before—you'll miss things, reroute, and sometimes have to turn back.”The Gobi Desert and the North Star“You navigate by stars knowing you'll never touch them. That's what great goals are—worth chasing even if you never arrive.”The Secret to Team Performance“You're not defined by your best players. You're defined by your weakest. Great leaders either lift them—or make hard calls.”Servant Leadership Isn't Just Humility—It's Precision“As a leader, I'm the expedition secretary. My job is to clear the path so my team can outperform me in every way.”When to Cut Loose and When to Coach“Too many leaders let low performers drag down morale. In expeditions, that mistake can get someone killed. In business, it just slowly kills momentum.”The Myth-Building Side of Leadership“Sometimes leadership means becoming something aspirational—a myth people can believe in. But you still serve the mission, not yourself.”Between What You Want to Be and What You Need to Be“I want to be the first man to circumnavigate the moon. But I need to be a good son, a great partner, a reliable chairman—and pay my sous-vide-powered electricity bill.”The Hardest Impact Isn't Global—It's Personal“It's easy to romanticize Musk or Zuckerberg. Harder? Being the friend who actually shows up. That's the real Paragon of humanity.”_____________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Chris Schrader  --Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. Ali Stroker is a trailblazing actor and advocate who joined the Little Kids, Big Hearts podcast as a guest Qook-a-lacka on our episode focused on inclusion. Today, Ali is back — out of character, as her amazing self — to talk with LKBH Host Todd Loyd about her own experiences with disability and inclusion. ❤️ She reflects on what Scarlett and Zach said on the episode: "When I hear Scarlett talking about horseback riding: It felt like she was explaining something that was so normal. And that, to me, is progress."❤️ She shares her own personal motto — Turning Limitations into Opportunities: "It can apply to somebody with a disability or not because as human beings, we have limitations. It's part of existing in the world."  ❤️ She talks about being a mom with a disability — and how being a mom in a wheelchair affects her parenting and her son's independence. ❤️ She talks about the power of "inclusive playgrounds." "I never had one inclusive playground growing up, and to this day, I still go to the playground and I have this like funny feeling in my stomach because it was a place of confusion and shame and frustration for me as a child ... Every kid deserves that freedom and that ability to play in an outdoor space with their friends."❤️ She talks about a moment when she was in 1st grade and her PE teachers included her in a lesson on "how to skip," which changed her life. "Thirty-one years later, I still remember it because it felt like I was included and someone had taken a little bit of time to get creative and make me feel like I was learning a new school too, and that I could be a part of the group in moving...And that meant everything to me, everything!" ❤️ She talked about her children's book "Ali and the Sea Stars," which was based on her own experience as a six year old being introduced to musical theater by her neighbor on the Jersey Shore. "It basically set my entire life journey of  becoming a musical theater and actress and everything that I do now." ❤️ She shares advice for kids with disabilities who want to try something new that hasn't been done before. Ali Stroker is a Tony Award winner for her role as ‘Ado Annie' in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! She made history as the first actor in a wheelchair to appear on Broadway in Deaf West's acclaimed revival of Spring Awakening and the first actor in a wheelchair to win a Tony. She was a series regular on the Netflix series, Echoes, and starred in the Lifetime holiday film, Christmas Ever After. Ali recurred in the final season of Netflix's Ozark and in Hulu's Only Murders in the Building. She co-wrote the novel, The Chance to Fly and its sequel, Cut Loose!; and she wrote the children's book, Ali and the Sea Stars. She was recently seen opposite Matthew Broderick in Babbitt at Shakespeare Theatre Company in DC and played 'Lady Anne' in the Shakespeare in the Park production of Richard III. On this kidventure episode, two kids — Scarlett and Zach — talk about their disabilities and share their experiences with inclusion (on inclusive playgrounds and in other contexts). As Scarlett explains, inclusion "means that everybody can play, no matter your disability or how you walk or how you roll or anything like that."After a chat on Earth, the kids and Todd travel on the colors of the rainbow to the Land of Qook-a-lackas, where they meet a Qook-a-lacka friend, Quinnly, who is trying to figure out how the Qook-a-lackas and their new neighbors, the Link-a-doos, can play TOGETHER. The Qook-a-lacka's favorite sport, Quibble, is played on the ground with a big ball — while the Link-a-doos' favorite sport, Loop-a-launch, is played in the sky with a little bouncy ball. The kids and Todd help Quinnly to brainstorm a whole new game (Quibble Launch!), which has special rules and a two tier playing field that is perfect for the new neighbors to play together!Little Kids, Big Hearts was THRILLED to be joined on this episode by guest star Ali Stroker, who plays the role of Quinnly. Ali Stroker is a Tony Award winner for her role as ‘Ado Annie' in Rodgers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma! When Nan Bauer-Maglin was 60 years old, her husband left her for his 25-year-old student. "I thought about suicide. You know, there's a great feeling of rejection especially if you're older," she told me. "You just feel ugly and invisible and sad and quite gray." Nan wrote a book inspired by their breakup and called it Cut Loose. "First I was gonna call it 'Dumped.' But that's so negative," she told me. "Cut Loose is also about freedom." Nan is one of hundreds of listeners who shared their breakup stories with us, after we asked for them last year. And she's not the only one who mentioned a potent mix of rejection, liberation, and confusion at the end of a relationship. A listener named Drew remembers when his boyfriend went on a trip, left his dog at Drew's house, and never came back. Thomas*, who got married right out of college, is 25 and unsure of what his life will look like after his impending divorce. Mia sent in a voice memo about leaving her boyfriend behind, and struggling with the decision years later. Identical twins Matthew and Peter Slutsky realized they needed to break up after years of living parallel lives: attending the same college, working the same jobs, living with their families in the same neighborhood. Creating some distance was part of growing up, but that doesn't mean it wasn't hurtful. In your breakup stories, you also described how hard it can be to know when it's over. Steve* knows he's not happy right now, but isn't sure if the problem is him or his long-term boyfriend. "I love him and I don't want to hurt him," he told me. "This just seems like kind of a way to wipe the slate clean and start over." Sometimes, though, breaking up can also feel like a long overdue exhale. Beth, a listener in Philadelphia, recalls the day when she was riding her bike on her commute and choked out the words, "I don't want to be married!" She was divorced within a year, and looking back now, wishes she hadn't waited so long to be honest about her feelings. Whether you're in the middle of a breakup or you've been through one in the past, check out breakupsurvival.guide, a website our listener Emily Theis built from your best suggestions about what to read, watch, listen to and do after a split. *Name changed for privacy reasons We're re-airing this episode from 2017.
