When twenty-seven-year-old James Bullock was shot and killed in St. Louis in the winter of 1958, investigators immediately focused their attention on Bullock's wife, Edna, who was the beneficiary of her husband's large life insurance policy. Witnesses recalled seeing the victim being chased by a man with a gun on the night of the murder, and detectives suspected Edna had arranged for her husband to be killed so she could collect the insurance money. They didn't know it at the time, but St. Louis investigators were investigating what was to be the first victim in a decades-long career of a most unlikely hitman and serial killer. Although they had their suspicions that Edna Bullock had enlisted the help of her ex-husband, Glen Engleman, in the murder of her new husband, it would take many more years before those suspicions were confirmed. And by that time, Engleman, a successful suburban dentist had taken the lives of several more people, all to satisfy his own interest in calculated and carefully planned assassinations. Faris McReynolds is a painter and musician whose practice engages directly with the structures of the contemporary art world. In this conversation, he reflects on his early entry into the gallery system, the financial realities of sustaining a painting practice, and the conditions that led him to step away from commercial representation. The discussion addresses how wealth, collectors, and market forces shape artistic visibility and value, alongside a critique of galleries, art fairs, and institutional power. McReynolds also considers the distinction between underground and unsuccessful practices, the influence of social media on artistic production, and the possibility of maintaining an independent, long-term commitment to making work outside dominant systems.

Greg McReynolds from Idaho Rivers United | The Lower Snake We Lost This podcast is the audio version of the Gear Garage Live Show, where we answer submitted questions and talk all things whitewater. In this episode, Zach sits down with Greg McReynolds, the Executive Director of Idaho Rivers United (IRU), to discuss the future of the Lower Snake River and the hidden rapids currently buried under its reservoirs. Episode Summary The conversation begins with the "permit apocalypse," as Greg and Zach share the common disappointment of being denied for major river lotteries like the Gates of Lodore. This frustration leads naturally into a discussion about unpermitted river opportunities and the massive potential of the Lower Snake River. Greg explains that IRU is heavily invested in the removal of the lower four Snake River dams to recover salmon populations in Idaho, which remains the "last best place" for salmon in the lower 48 states. A fascinating part of the episode explores what lies beneath the current reservoirs between Lewiston and Pasco. Underneath 140 miles of stagnant water are 66 named rapids that have been submerged for half a century. Greg describes a future where those dams come down, transforming the river into a premier multi-day destination where boaters could potentially paddle from the Middle Fork of the Salmon all the way home to the Columbia River. The episode also touches on the technical and political realities of dam removal. Greg clarifies that these dams were built with a 50-year lifespan that is now expiring, and their economic value—particularly in electricity generation—is diminishing. Unlike many other dams, these four were authorized by Congress, meaning their removal requires congressional action and a plan to replace services like barge shipping for grain with expanded rail and road infrastructure. Topics and links that Zach talked about in this episode Conservation: Idaho Rivers United and their mission to protect Idaho's waterways. Geography: The Lower Snake River watershed and the impact of the four lower dams. Policy: The role of Congress and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in dam relicensing and removal. Key Discussion Points from this Episode Topic: Salmon Recovery. Why are the lower four Snake River dams the most significant impediment to salmon thriving in Idaho? Topic: Submerged Rapids. What were some of the legendary rapids, like Lewiston Rapid and Clarkston Rapid, like before the dams? Topic: Dam Lifespan. How does the expiring 50-year lifespan of these structures influence the urgency for removal? Topic: Logistics. What infrastructure needs to be built to replace barge shipping if the dams are removed?

Dale Jr. learns new details about what it was like to work with his dad back in the day. McReynolds also shares some incredible stories, including: the infamous lucky penny, who dialed up Dale Sr.'s radio moments before the green flag at Daytona, and how Larry convinced Dale to go test at different tracks. While they never achieved the success they dreamed of together, Larry Mac and Dale Sr. will always be remembered as one of the great driver/crew chief combos in NASCAR history. What drives the seeming relentless dynamism of Tokyo? Is there something special about Japanese culture? Joe McReynolds, co-author of Emergent Tokyo, argues that the secret to Tokyo's energy and attractiveness as a place to live and visit comes from policies that allow Tokyo to emerge from the bottom up. Post-war black markets evolved into today's yokocho--dense clusters of micro-venues that turn over, specialize, and innovate nightly--while vertical zakkyo buildings stack dozens of tiny bars, eateries, and shops floor by floor, pulling street life upward. The engine? Friction-light rules: permissive mixed-use zoning, minimal licensing, and no minimum unit sizes let entrepreneurs launch fast and pivot faster. And surrounding this emergent urban landscape there's plenty of new housing with excellent transportation infrastructure to let ever-more people enjoy Tokyo's magic.
“What we're seeing is, as the new carbon economy moves forward – and this is critical to businesses to operate in the future, in the next five, 10 years – it's colliding with the digital transformation and financial transformation. And so, I think one of the essential things our customers are asking is. ‘how do we bring together the Chief Sustainability Officer, the CIO and the CFO and the new market, digital and carbon economy as we go forward?' Because you need all three lenses to make a holistic decision for both the growth and resiliency of your company.” Mandi McReynolds on Electric Ladies Podcast Artificial Intelligence, A.I., is transforming sustainability work, from data collection to analysis to reporting. You'll hear about: ● How Workiva is leveraging A.I. to serve its clients across the board – from assessing materiality, to financial reporting and sustainability reporting, ● How to use A.I. to minimize boring work and free up people to be more strategic and creative – in a few unique ways. ● How to ensure the integrity of the data you're accessing with A.I. – and how to reduce the risk of your data being contaminated by A.I. hallucinations, etc. ● Plus, career advice, such as: “Your job isn't to know the answer. Your job is to ask all the right questions of where the business is going and think about your lens is adding value because you're going to ask a different question….Don't be afraid….(Align) with people who could see the possibility of (your) experience. And… take that stretch job and just remember you're in the room to ask different questions, and that's perfectly fine. So, take the stretch and then lean into your experience that allows you to have a different lens and a different perspective.” Mandi McReynolds on Electric Ladies Podcast Read Joan's Forbes articles here. You've probably been reading or hearing a lot about artificial intelligence these days. AI stocks such as NVIDIA have been driving the stock market. AI programs such as ChatGPT are already disrupting a number of industries, including education, journalism, and social media platforms. And lots of smart people believe that the disruptions have only just begun. AI generated video content is already blurring the lines between reality and something that is not reality, but which very closely resembles reality. And everyone involved with AI is unanimous in this: AI will only get better, more realistic, more powerful. What are Christians to make of artificial intelligence? Kathy McReynolds has made a career of studying the frontier between Christianity, technology, and anthropology, and she has some thoughts on the subject of artificial intelligence. Dr. McReynolds graduated with a BA in Christian Education at Biola University, and then went on to earn an MA in Systematic Theology at the Talbot School of Theology, Biola University. After earning her degrees, she took five years off, wrote five books, had three children, and then went on to earn her PhD in Ethics at the University of Southern California. She has since written nearly a dozen more books. She has been a US intelligence officer and has advised the Department of Defense and the Office of National Intelligence on AI issues. For many years she was a professor in the Bible Department at Biola University. She currently serves as an AI Theologian for FaithTech, integrating biblical theology and emerging technology. Are you struggling with self-doubt or feel stuck on the path to business growth? It's easy to get overwhelmed by perfectionism and let fears hold you back from taking that next step. In this week's episode of Fordify LIVE, Ford is joined by Matthew McReynolds, The Streetwise Franchisee, who shares his journey of embracing progress over perfection as a multi-brand franchise owner and mentor. If you're aiming to level up your business, overcome setbacks, and create meaningful growth, this conversation provides the insight you need to start pushing forward. Matthew discusses his experiences in franchise ownership, where he's taken the reins on businesses like Mosquito Joe, Groovy Hughes, and Lumiere Outdoor Lighting. From his first steps into entrepreneurship with his father to his present role as a mentor to other aspiring business owners, Matthew reflects on why it's essential to prioritize progress over perfection. He explains how too many entrepreneurs get caught up in the pursuit of flawless execution, preventing them from starting or advancing. The message is clear: taking imperfect action is often the first step toward mastering any challenge and achieving genuine progress over perfection. Ford and Matthew touch on the mindset needed to push through self-doubt and persist, even when faced with failures. Matthew shares how his background in athletics and coaching taught him that growth often comes from repeated efforts rather than immediate successes. He emphasizes that moving forward, even through missteps, allows you to gain the experience necessary to become resilient. The balance between planning and doing is crucial; waiting for the “perfect” moment usually results in missed opportunities. Instead, taking action, learning along the way, and adjusting strategies over time proves to be a more effective approach for embodying progress over perfection and achieving long-term success. Matthew shared how challenges can become catalysts for growth, drawing from his own entry into franchising. With limited experience, he navigated the uncertainties of launching a new business, but rather than letting obstacles hold him back, he viewed them as essential learning experiences. This mindset sharpened his skills and bolstered his resilience, ultimately shaping the trajectory of his career. By leaning into pain-points instead of shying away, he not only strengthened his own business practices but also developed the ability to guide others through similar hurdles. His approach offers a valuable lesson for entrepreneurs: embracing discomfort is a vital part of practicing progress over perfection, paving the way to stronger and more effective business strategies. Mentorship and mastermind groups emerged as crucial elements in Matthew's approach to business growth. He explains how tapping into the collective wisdom of like-minded individuals provides the momentum and motivation needed to push forward. For Matthew, being a “serial mentee” is a cornerstone of his philosophy, as he continually seeks to learn from others and apply new insights to reach his goals. He credits mentorship with shaping his trajectory, refining his strategies, and offering the clarity needed to navigate the complexities of business ownership. This mindset aligns perfectly with the principle of progress over perfection, where continuous learning and growth are prioritized over getting everything right the first time. It's all too easy for business owners to get caught up in the day-to-day grind and lose sight of the bigger picture. Matthew emphasizes the importance of focusing on high-value activities rather than getting bogged down in tasks that could be delegated or outsourced. Shifting attention away from low impact “$25 tasks” allows entrepreneurs to concentrate on strategic actions that genuinely move the needle. Prioritizing efforts that align with long-term goals accelerates growth by fostering a mindset of progress over perfection, where progress is more important than chasing unattainable standards. Matthew's experiences illustrate that success is built on a series of imperfect actions, each contributing to growth and resilience. Even small, incremental steps can create significant momentum over time. He encourages entrepreneurs to rethink how they approach their work, challenging them to let go of the fear of failure and embrace the value of taking action, no matter how imperfect. The focus is not on flawless execution but on continually moving forward to achieving meaningful results, embodying progress over perfection in every decision and action. Dr. Connie McReynolds, PhD has caused quite the stir in the fields of psychology, psychiatry, and counseling as she has approached the ADHD and ADD diagnoses much differently than most practitioners. Rather than debating the nuances of "does someone HAVE ADHD or not", Dr. Connie has researched and utilized sophisticated Neurofeedback Assessments that differentiate multiple different issues that could be contributing to the largest gestalt (or diagnosis of ADHD): Including multiple tiers of auditory processing disorders, visual processing disorders, general learning disorders, differential medical diagnoses, environmental factors, and overlapping clinical psychological diagnoses. If this sounds intriguing, this is an episode you need to hear and she has written a book that I would recommend reading. Dr. Connie McReynolds, PhD and her team have fearlessly pushed forward into researching the nuances of all types of people tagged with the label "ADHD/ ADD." In going deeper, with their neuropsychological assessments and sophisticated proprietary and targeted neurofeedback treatments, they have discovered that there are a myriad of issues that are contributing to what your average clinician may conclude is ADHD (referencing the DSM or ICD codes). Not only have they been able to figure out the etiology of the symptoms that are contributing to the clinical picture / diagnosis--they have worked on treating these symptoms WITHOUT medications or minimal medications, and also with minimal therapy (unless called for from a crossover of other behavioral, environmental, or psychological factors). Dr. Connie McReynolds' team have had incredible results from only 20 thirty minute targeted neurofeedback subjects who are coming in with a range of ADHD-related symptoms. And 6 and 12 month follow up assessments and subjective reports are just as stunning! However, the idea that you can actually reduce ADHD symptoms for the long-term without extensive medications and behavioral therapies goes against the status quo of most practitioners in the United States. Thus, this has not yet been popularized. It also doesn't cost that much money and the treatment is not life-long, so thus it has not yet been picked up by the typical profiteers. The best news is that the data speaks for itself. From multiple published articles to the examples in Dr. Connie McReynold's book, there is hope for those that suffer from ADHD, auditory processing issues, visual processing disorders, and related issues. A guest on CBS, NBC, and NPR, I recommend checking out her website for a free assessment. In 2011, after a devastating car accident left Christy with a broken neck, Christy turned to fly fishing and fly tying to help regain mobility and strength in her hands and arms as well as build up strength in her neck. Casting streamers quickly became her way of physically and mentally dealing with the persistent pain she experienced as a result of her injury. She and her husband Jason, enjoyed streamer fishing so much, that they started a guide service called Flying Soho, that specializes in streamer fishing for large fish on the Watauga and South Holston Rivers. Today, we interview Dr. Connie McReynolds, author of the groundbreaking book "Solving the ADHD Riddle." Beyond traditional methods, Dr. McReynolds advocates for innovative interventions that address the root causes of learning and behavioral challenges rather than just the symptoms. Her work in neurofeedback is a testament to the effectiveness of such alternative approaches. She also illuminates the often-overlooked auditory and visual processing issues underlying learning difficulties. Dr. McReynolds explains how these challenges are not related to the ability to hear or see but to how the brain processes information, which can significantly impact attention and learning. Her approach offers hope and improved quality of life for those affected by ADHD, as evidenced by her research and publications. On this episode of Reading With Your Kids we discuss alternative approaches to ADHD and brain development in children with Dr Connie McReynolds. Dr Connie is a licensed psychologist with over 30 years of experience working with families. She shared her journey developing a new assessment and treatment model for ADHD. She found that 85-90% of clients had underlying auditory or visual processing issues, rather than surface symptoms addressed by traditional interventions. McReynolds uses quantitative EEG assessments to identify specific brain processing challenges. Her neurofeedback program then trains those areas through biofeedback games, strengthening neuronal pathways over 20-30 sessions. This non-invasive brain training has helped children with ADHD, anxiety, PTSD and other conditions. Dr Connie emphasized advocating for children facing educational challenges. Parents should question authoritative figures and seek alternative treatments if their child is struggling. Author David Covell also joined us to celebrate his book Gather Round. He believes outdoor activities like camping were great ways to help kids develop problem-solving skills and reducing anxiety. Covell shared his process writing succinct, emotionally resonant stories that invite discussion. Click here to visit our website - www.readingwithyourkids.com

In this episode we WadeOutThere with Jason McReynolds from Jonesborough, Tennessee. Jason began fly fishing in East Tennessee during the late nineties. When his wife, who also enjoyed fly fishing, was seriously injured in a car accident, the couple began fishing streamers almost exclusively, because the larger flies and larger weighted rods was therapeutic for his wife Christy's recovery. They fell in love with streamer fishing, and since they were going fishing so much already, they opened their own guide service, Flying Soho.
