Guided Question How does Jesus' identification with humanity through suffering, temptation, and resurrection empower us to reclaim the destiny God originally intended and overcome the fear of death? Summary In this sermon from Hebrews 2, Dr. Robert Lewis reminds listeners of the subtle spiritual drift that occurs when we focus on worldly fears and distractions rather than the truth of Christ. The message encourages believers to redirect attention to the hope and power found in Jesus Christ, who restores humanity's lost destiny through His obedience, suffering, and resurrection. Christ not only experienced the full range of human limitations and temptations but also identifies with humanity, making Him our perfect Savior, high priest, and source of deliverance from the fear of death. The sermon closes with a personal call to invite Jesus into one's life, experiencing His forgiveness and the fullness of God's intended destiny. Outline The Drift Away from Faith (Hebrews 2:1) Modern fears: war, terrorism, crime, economic instability Spiritual drift is subtle but real, like drifting at a beach unnoticed The importance of paying attention to God's Word to prevent spiritual decline Humanity's Lost Destiny and Its Restoration (Hebrews 2:5–9; Psalm 8; Genesis 1:28) Adam's failure resulted in loss of dominion over creation Christ as the Second Adam restores humanity's intended destiny Evidence of Christ's power: miracles, healing, authority over creation Jesus' Suffering and Identification with Humanity (Hebrews 2:9–13) Christ suffered death for all humanity, tasting our sin and limitations Identification with humanity allows Him to call us “brethren” He lived under human limitations, wrestled with faith, and experienced temptation Jesus' Victory Over the Fear of Death (Hebrews 2:14–15; Mark 4:35–41) Death's threat is rendered powerless through Christ's resurrection Fear-driven slavery to the present life is overcome through eternal perspective Christ's bodily resurrection guarantees hope and eternal life Christ as Our Merciful High Priest (Hebrews 2:16–18; 4:15) He gives help to humanity, not angels, fully understanding human struggles Able to sympathize with temptations and provide aid in our times of need Practical implications: we can turn to Jesus in trials and experience His help Call to Personal Faith and Eternal Destiny (Hebrews 2:1–18) Salvation is accessed through faith, not works Invitation to trust Christ, receive forgiveness, and embrace God's intended destiny Assurance of eternal life through the Holy Spirit Key Takeaways: Spiritual drift can happen quietly; staying rooted in God's Word prevents it. Jesus restores humanity's lost destiny, offering hope beyond worldly despair. Christ fully identifies with human struggles, temptations, and suffering. Death's power is nullified through Christ's resurrection. Jesus is our merciful high priest, able to aid us in every struggle. Eternal fulfillment and destiny are accessible through faith in Jesus Christ. Scripture References: Hebrews 2:1–18 Genesis 1:28 Psalm 8 Mark 4:35–41 Isaiah 8:17 Hebrews 4:15 Recorded 11/15/81

What does it really mean to live by faith? In this journey through Hebrews 11, we explore the kind of faith that doesn't just believe—but endures, obeys, and trusts God even when life doesn't make sense. From Abel to Abraham, from Moses to the prophets, Scripture shows us that faith is not passive—it's active, costly, and deeply relational. This sermon will challenge you to:-Trust God's promises over your present circumstances-Step out in obedience—even when the outcome is unclear-Hold onto hope in both victory and suffering-Fix your eyes on what is unseen and eternalFaith is not wishful thinking—it's confidence in who God is and what He has said.No matter what you're facing today, this message is a call to keep going, keep trusting, and keep believing. What is your “by faith” statement? To support the ministry of Melbourne Inclusive Church go to: www.michurch.org.au/giveMelbourne Inclusive Church boldly and proudly proclaims Christ's equal love for all people regardless of their ability, socio-economic status, sexual orientation, age, gender, race, ethnicity, or culture.Melbourne Inclusive Church is part of the EMI Global family of churches.

Sunday Service (2/15/26) // Hebrews 11:8-10 (ESV) // 8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he went to live in the land of promise, as in a foreign land, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, heirs with him of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose designer and builder is God.#BibleStudy #BibleExplained #Bible #BiblicalStudies #BibleTeacher #WordOfGod #BiblicalLessons #BibleJournal #BibleReading #BibleStudyNotes #biblestudycommunity #ChicagoChurch #BibleProject #BibleVerse #Bible Website: https://mbchicago.org FOLLOW USFacebook: / mbc.chicago Instagram: / mbc.chicago TikTok: / mbc.chicago Podcasts: Listen on Apple, Spotify & others TO SUPPORT US Zelle to: info@mbchicago.org Website: https://mbchicago.org/give Venmo: https://venmo.com/mbchurch DAF Donations: https://every.org/mbc.chicago PayPal: https://paypal.com/donate/?hosted_but...

What if the secret to finishing well isn't trying harder but traveling lighter? We open Hebrews chapter 12 with a vivid race metaphor and get practical about how to lay down every weight and the sin that so easily clings. The “cloud of witnesses” aren't distant spectators; they are living case studies that God keeps his promises, and their stories invite us to keep moving when life feels heavy. We talk about the difference between overt sin and subtle weights—those time-sucking habits, crowded calendars, and misaligned priorities that quietly choke our joy and our service. Endurance grows when our eyes are fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. His path ran through the cross, but his focus was the joy set before him: redeemed people, the Father's glory, the completion of his mission. That future focus gives us a model for pressing through our own “wall” moments with resilient hope, not hype.We also tackle the honest reality that striving against sin is normal and ongoing. Hebrews doesn't shame the fight; it dignifies it. Instead of pretending perfection, we cultivate habits, boundaries, and confession that keep us moving forward. And when the text turns to divine discipline, we discover it as love in action—God training, correcting, and pruning us for fruit that lasts. Discipline may feel painful in the moment, but it is proof of belonging and a path to maturity. If you've felt weighed down, distracted, or discouraged, this conversation will help you name the weights, see the finish line, and run with endurance. As we conclude our series on Hebrews 11, we are encouraged as believers to continue to run the race set before us. It's important to remain strong in our faith, especially during tough times. As a church, we are to encourage one another to press on, to fix our eyes on Jesus, and to run.
Hebrews 11:32-38 highlights the duality of facing troubles while expecting victory through Christ, referencing biblical figures who exemplified true faith. It calls for passionate living and addressing complacency all while encouraging believers to deepen their trust in God.
Pastor Micah Stephens powerfully unpacks Hebrews 11, the great “Hall of Faith,” showing that biblical faith is never blind but the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things unseen. Walking through Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Rahab, and more, he reveals how every hero's story was always pointing to Jesus—the better sacrifice, the better ark, the author and finisher of our faith—calling us to run the race looking unto Him.Reference VersesHebrews 11 verses 1–3, 2 Timothy 1 verse 5, Romans 8 verse 26, Hebrews 11 verse 4-11, Hebrews 11 verses 17–40, Hebrews 12 verses 1–2Make sure you subscribe to this channel and follow us on all our platforms to always stay up to date with our latest content! And you can always head over to our website for any general information!https://godspeak.comPrayer/NeedsIf you have any needs, or have a willingness to be used to meet various need in the body, please email info@godspeak.com. Pastor Mike teaches on Hebrews 11:30-31 which highlights faith of the Israelites as they obey God's command to march around Jericho. God encourages us to trust in His plan even when we don't understand and even when it doesn't make sense. Rahab sees God's power and develops a personal relationship with Him, saving her faith saving her and her whole household.
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. - Jesus (Matthew 6:22) Faith is the habit of seeing what God sees, but most of us suffer from vision deficiency. In the final chapters of the book of Hebrews, the author urges believers to fix our eyes on Jesus. By seeing Jesus for who he really is - the image of perfection and the pioneer of our faith - we will be able to see ourselves for who we are: imperfect sinners saved by grace through faith. Join us at The Story, Sundays in November, as we fix our eyes to see God's vision for our lives!
