Before search engines, we had to rely on memory and investigation to answer our questions. Then, search engines made answers instantly available. Now, in the age of AI, we have to engineer our questions to get the best results.Frank Farrall, Deloitte's Strategy & Analytics Ecosystems and Alliances Leader, knows that asking the right questions is just as critical as knowing the answers. Frank is a global business builder with 20 years of experience helping clients and startups become billion-dollar businesses through AI and digital transformation. In this episode, Satyen and Frank discuss identifying worthy investments, the sexiness of prompt engineering, and efficient engagement with AI.--------“I think in a lot of cases, prompt engineering will at least become a skill that knowledge workers, creative workers use to get an outcome from the technology. I think some people will be highly, highly specialized. I actually think prompts are going to have value in organizations and I think prompt libraries and how you manage prompts will become a set of IP and something that's highly valuable inside organizations. I think prompt engineering has a very significant future ahead of it. I think all of us are going to have to learn some level of prompt engineering to be effective in the future.” – Frank Farrall--------Time Stamps:*(02:42): Defining the AI ecosystem*(07:55): How to identify a worthy investment*(23:23): How “sexy” is prompt engineering?*(41:44): The future of generative AI*(44:43): Satyen's Takeaways--------SponsorThis podcast is presented by Alation.Learn more:* Subscribe to the newsletter: https://www.alation.com/podcast/* Alation's LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/company/alation/* Satyen's LinkedIn Profile: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ssangani/--------LinksFollow Frank on LinkedIn

This week, I'm speaking to Peter Farrall and Stephen Brookhouse who are co-authors of "Good Practice Guide: Fees," recently published from the RIBA. Peter Farrall is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool where he is responsible for the Professional Studies as well as being a studio tutor on the BA and MArch courses. Prior to his current position, he was a partner in a small multi-disciplinary practice in Chester, specializing in the education sector. Stephen is currently the Professor of Professional Practice in Architecture at the University of Westminster. He's a chartered architect with over 30 years of experience as the director of a commercial practice and professional teaching. In this episode, we discuss what brought the two of them together to write the book on fees, and we look at some of the issues that practices face around percentage fees and why percentage fees typically and traditionally don't really work. We discuss the importance of negotiation in determining the fees and how fees should reflect the risk that the architect is taking on, and why it's important to specialize in a niche and how that influences fees. We also talk about profit and surplus. ► Purchase a copy of the "Good Practice Guide: Fees" with the code GPGF5 to get £5 off: https://www.ribabooks.com/Good-Practice-Guide-Fees_9781859469309 Offer valid until 30th September. ► Access your free training at http://SmartPracticeMethod.com/ ► If you want to speak directly to our advisors, book a call at https://www.businessofarchitecture.com/call THIS WEEK'S RESOURCES Peter's LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-farrall-57768117a/ Stephen's LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/stephen-brookhouse-73957628/

A key element of any accident investigation is the interviewing of witnesses, and this is also true of investigative interviews conducted in an HR setting to look into complaints of (say) gross misconduct, or fraud, or sexual misconduct – all of which can result in the accused person being dismissed without notice (and, possibly, becoming subject to legal proceedings). There’s a common assumption that an investigative interview is just like any other management interview, but in reality it’s the complete opposite. In an investigative interview the fundamental dynamics will change. The interviewer will be under the spotlight just as much as the interviewee – yet he/ she probably won’t even realise what’s happening. Key information may be hidden, and the investigation may be sent off in totally the wrong direction, simply because the interviewer is being manipulated. In this Live Event, let's discuss with Andy some of they techniques for investigative interviewing and what are the top tips that Andy can share for successful interviews. How do we trust the process and let go of what we think our life should be like? How do we trust our bodies to guide us to where we are destined to go? How do we just show up, messy, fully, complicated and human? There is no one answer, but it starts with turning inward and trusting your inner knowing. Join Allyson & Daneen Farrall, yoga teacher and inspirer, as Daneen dives into her experience with her own body and movement. She shares vulnerably about her experience with an eating disorder, perfectionism and how yoga stripped away this idea of what she needed to control in her life. She talks about moving away from a state of perfection to a state of being in the process. Daneen shares insight into being a mother, yoga teacher and perfectly imperfect human who shows up as best as she can in each moment.

It's Oscar night, so there's no better time to bring you our review of the most nominated movie of the 2018 Academy Awards. Guillermo Del Toro's 'The Shape of Water' is a 1950s romantic-noir about the blossoming love between a mute girl and an amphibious creature. Either that or it's fanfiction about the creature from the black lagoon. Regardless, you should check out our full review now and then play along with this week's game known as 'the sound of water' where we try and guess what movie Alice is saying whilst she has a mouth full of water. It's not the first time our podcast has made a lady soak herself.

Stephen Farrall, professor of criminology in the Centre for Criminological Research at the School of Law, University of Sheffield, talks to Rob Lyons about his film Generation Right, which looks at the election of Margaret Thatcher and her subsequent policies, particularly in relation to crime and criminal justice policy. Stephen notes how Thatcher's economic policies - in particular, the way they created mass unemployment and drove down welfare provision - led to an increase in crime. Yet she remained popular for aspirational members of the working class. He also discusses how it was subsequent administrations who really got 'tough on crime', for example in relation to sentencing, and whether we can still talk about 'Generation Right' since the rise of Jeremy Corbyn. The film screening and debate, GENERATION RIGHT – THE LEGACY OF MARGARET THATCHER, takes place at the Battle of Ideas festival at the Barbican in London on Sunday 29 October at 2pm. Visit the Battle of Ideas website for more details.
