Federal employees often have valuable benefits, but without the right guidance, they may not understand the rules, options, and decisions that shape their retirement. In this episode of The Registered Investment Advisor Podcast, host Seth Greene interviews Cassie Graves, Founder of Fed Options Consultants and Information Services, who explains how she entered the federal benefits space, why many employees misunderstand retirement eligibility, TSP rules, survivor benefits, and insurance decisions, and how advisors can better serve this specialized market. She also discusses how financial professionals can build credibility by leading with service, understanding federal benefit language, and helping employees make more informed retirement planning decisions. Key Takeaways: → Federal benefits involve unique rules around pensions, survivor benefits, TSP withdrawals, military service credits, and retirement eligibility that many advisors overlook. → Missing prior service history, part-time service adjustments, or military deposits can significantly impact projected retirement income. → Federal employees are highly sensitive to transactional sales approaches and respond better to advisors who lead with education and genuine support. → Recent workforce restructuring, early retirement programs, and shifting government policies have created confusion around retirement timing and financial readiness. → Familiarity with federal systems, terminology, and planning structures helps advisors establish credibility and improve client confidence. Cassie Graves founded Fed Options Consultants and Information Services, LLC to provide high-level back-office federal benefits support for seasoned financial professionals serving federal employees. As the spouse of a federal employee, and with many family and friends in federal service, she saw firsthand how often benefits are misunderstood, especially approaching retirement. That insight became her mission: help employees understand the real consequences of their benefit choices. Customer satisfaction with benefits and services provided by the federal government is higher than it's been in nearly two decades. That's despite a tumultuous year where agencies have seen a major downsizing of the federal workforce. Scores are higher on average, but the latest scorecard from the American Customer Satisfaction Index does show a few agencies are seeing lower scores. The Office of Personnel Management and the Department of Homeland Security are among the agencies with lower customer experience scores. https://fb.nativepath.com/rd/r.php?sid=1947&pub=240725&c1=pasreportcoll070125&c2=&c3=bannersIn this episode of The P.A.S. Report Podcast, Professor Nicholas Giordano takes aim at the absurdity of the so-called “No Kings” protest, where activists chant about tyranny while embracing a government that controls nearly every aspect of life. Professor Giordano then breaks down the government shutdown and exposes how Democrats' refusal to support a clean funding resolution is driven by their obsession with power and the big government apparatus. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the far left are holding the country hostage to protect the failed Obamacare system and keep COVID-era subsidies that have fueled premium spikes, eliminated competition, and increased dependency. He explains how Obamacare is one of the most costly policy failures in American history, and how big government continues to punish working Americans while rewarding bureaucrats and special interests. Episode Highlights: The hypocrisy of the No Kings protests as activists rail against tyranny while demanding more government control over every part of American life. Democrats are blocking a clean funding resolution to protect Obamacare subsidies and weaponize the shutdown for political leverage as the Schumer Shutdown continues. The Obamacare Collapse, premiums are skyrocketing, illegal immigrants exploit loopholes, and the only thing keeping the system alive is endless taxpayer money.

A new report blasts California for continuing to take federal benefits away from foster children, to help balance the state budget. The nationwide study gives California and 43 other states a grade of F, for diverting funds to foster care agencies, without ever even telling kids that the money is rightfully theirs. This has been a practice for many years, but in recent years there's been a movement to ban it, which Arizona has done, and there's federal legislation in the works. California applies for Social Security disability and survivor benefits in the names of foster children, then collects the money and uses it to fund state agencies that provide foster care. But that money is supposed to go to the kids themselves. A bill to end this practice passed unanimously in the state legislature last year, but Governor Newsom vetoed it, saying it would blow a hole in the state budget, and that if lawmakers want to pass a bill that affects the budget, it has to be part of the budget-writing process. For more, KCBS Political Reporter Doug Sovern, along with KCBS Radio's news anchors Brett Berkhart and Patti Reising, spoke with Jessica Heldman, the Fellmeth-Peterson Associate Professor in Child Rights, at the Children's Advocacy Institute at the University of San Diego School of Law, the organization that has produced this new study, which is called “Foster Care, or Foster Con?”
