Dive into Friends Like Us as host Marina Franklin talks with veteran comedians Ralph Harris, Keith Robinson, and Charles Walden. They share stories, laughs, and insights on what keeps them thriving in the industry.  Keith Robinson: Born and raised in South Philadelphia, Keith Robinson, is considered a comic's comic. He has captivated audiences around the world with his straightforward humor. He was a regular on Comedy Central's Tough Crowd; and the co-host of The Wanda Sykes Show (Fox), His first hour special; 2014's Kevin Hart Presents: Back of the Bus Funny can still be streamed on Amazon Prime, Peacock and Tubi. Keith has been featured in films such as Trainwreck and King of Staten Island. After two strokes, and an extended hospital stay, during COVID, Keith marched right back to the stage to create his latest and most personal work yet, Different Strokes; his second hour special, picked up and to be released in 2024 by Netflix. Keith is currently working on several projects, including, feature films, television and tours. Charles Walden: Celebrity standup comedian and actor Charles Walden has been doing what he loves for over 30 years and that's entertaining his audience. Stricken by Cerebral Palsy from birth Charles doesn't allow his condition to limit or stop him from living his best life. Between gigs Charles has been employed by the State of Philadelphia for over fifteen (15) years. He enjoys traveling the world making people laugh.  Charles Walden was raised in the rough and tough inner city of Philadelphia and had to struggle and survive like any other kid in the inner city. He got No breaks just because he had Cerebral Palsy. He was not babied at all by family, friends, or the community. He had to put his pants on one leg at a time like every other boy or man. He had to overcome many obstacles. There was a lot of mental and physical pain he endured from living and growing up in the inner city of Philadelphia. The death of his mother crushed him, but he kept going. She was his rock. Many years have passed since her death and the pain never goes away but he keeps going. Charles' greatest pleasure is when he's on stage performing as he gives his audiences the most inspirational laughing good time they've had in a long while.  Charles Walden is not embarrassed or ashamed of his Cerebral Palsy and has incorporated his condition in a unique way into his standup comedy show.  Charles is proud to say stand up comedy has giving him the opportunity to perform on some iconic TV shows and stages such as BETs Comic View, Martin Lawrence 1st Amendment and even Def Comedy Jam's All-Star Season, to name a few.  Charles is a requested favorite to perform at  colleges, universities, comedy clubs, churches and military bases across the Country. Ralph Harris - From humble beginnings in North Philadelphia to the bright lights of Hollywood, Ralph Harris has been living the dream as a successful comedian and actor, in a career that spans over thirty-five years, and remains in full swing. Labeled by his peers as one of today's legendary comedic talents, with a resume that includes notable acting experience. Harris also served as host of the Culinary Competition, My Momma Throws Down on the TVOne network. He also made his feature film debut in the Golden Globe hit DREAMGIRLS, starring one of his comedy idols Eddie Murphy, Beyonce´, Jamie Foxx and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson. Harris kicks off the movie as the Detroit MC that helps Jamie hook up with the Dreamettes. Not one to slow down, Harris continued his film career momentum, immediately landing his second feature role in the film Evan Almighty starring Steve Carell and Wanda Sykes. Harris' jump to the big screen comes after years of successful television work, including appearances on Seinfeld, The Parent ‘Hood, Nick Freno, Living Single and In Living Color. No stranger to late night TV, Harris has been featured on The Tonight Show and Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and Arsenio. Harris, is best known for his starring role in the ABC sitcom On Our Own which aired during the immensely popular TGIF block on Friday nights, the show has also aired in syndication on TVOne. You can catch Harris on TV and the Web, in either of his previously recorded specials – Comedy Central Presents and the widely popular HBO Comedy Half-Hour, also on all major streaming music platforms, on his previously recorded album titled HICKEY HEAD. When he's not filming, Harris continues to tour the world and the sea, literally! Performing to sold-out audiences as a comedian, his first career and love. Harris' comedy is character driven, a throwback to many of the greats including his other comedy idols Pryor, Cosby, Redd Foxx, Jonathan Winters and the list goes on. Born and raised in Philadelphia… Ralph spends what little time he's not on the road performing, at home in Los Angeles. Always hosted by Marina Franklin - One Hour Comedy Special: Single Black Female ( Amazon Prime, CW Network), TBS's The Last O.G, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Hysterical on FX, The Movie Trainwreck, Louie Season V, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, HBO's Crashing, and The Breaks with Michelle Wolf. Actress, comedian, writer and producer Sue Costello bares all in this gutsy interview on Awakened Nation. From her Boston roots, being picked on as a kid, to her impressive resume and her own sitcom "Costello," as well as her lawsuit with CBS over intellectual property rights, this gutsy powerhouse is also "wick'd smaut" and pulls no punches. Sue also tells us the secret to extraordinary success when auditioning against type, and how she landed such iconic roles on NYPD Blues and in the films "Southie" starring Donnie Wahlberg, "Once in the Life," with Laurence Fishburne, and “The Fighter” with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale. "I just want to be a role model for the next generation of women in show business." About Sue Costello: “Sue Costello could light an entire city with energy”  It is this energy that infuses and inspires people. At five feet three inches, Sue Costello may look harmless, but once she opens her mouth, it is obvious that this blonde means business - funny business. Sue has the ability to bring a room full of patrons to tears with her comedic disposition and vivacious wit. That, mixed with her vulnerability and honesty, has makes her one of the only women in the business who can do what she does. From her Boston accent, to her “tell it like it is” demeanor, you can't help but feel like your laughing with your best friend. Sue has appeared on countless television shows including "NYPD Blue” and "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn” on Comedy Central.  After starring in two TV pilots for CBS, Sue earned her very own self-titled television series, "Costello," in which she also served as a producer and the co-creator.  Sue was also a guest host on NBC's "Later,” performed on Comedy Central's "Premium Blend,” and made it to the finals of NBC's “Last Comic Standing.” She has also been seen on "Comic's Unleashed" with Byron Allen. Sue has also appeared twice on Marc Maron's Podcast WTF. Her single episode is 172 and “Live from Boston” episode 407. Laugh Tracks Legends of Comedy with Randy and Steve

Might want to put on the asbestos underwear this week -- the modern king of roasting is in the house. Greg Giraldo might have started out as a corporate lawyer, but he soon found out that the stand up stage was his natural habitat. Possessed of a blazing wit and the ability to turn complex issues into sharp gags, Greg was a favorite on Comedy Central in its early days, becoming a fixture at their Celebrity Roasts. But, unlike the heavily sanitized Dean Martin versions folks were used to, the Comedy Central roasts were no holds barred. Similarly, he was a standout on the show Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, on which a panel of stand up comics shredded each other along with the day's news. As always, find extra cuts below and thanks for sharing our shows! Want more Greg Giraldo? Greg believed comedy was art -- but he knew it wasn't exactly the same as Shakespeare. This short bit from a documentary tells why. https://vimeo.com/11839333 Greg was a first rate standup and this routine, taken from an early Comedy Central special, captures why audiences loved him and why fans today wonder what he would say about our current condition! https://youtu.be/YLz1XujQlBQ?si=X6K1xv5kIAp6LIRD Greg pretty much owned the Comedy Central roasts and this video collects his finest work. When a joke goes too far -- and one almost always does -- in true roasting fashion Greg dishes it back to the audience and plows straight ahead. Warning -- this one is NSFW! https://youtu.be/0_TrrWWkMXU?si=R9YjlVPI4NsdZOEB

She was the fan favorite on Bravo Television's, The Single's Project. She is the winner of the Sloshed Comedy Competition and the Rising Stars Comedy Competition in London. Onika performs regularly at LOL and Times Square and passed at Comic Strip Live and has Dangerfield's, New York Comedy Club, New York Stand, Broadway Comedy, Village Underground, and the. She runs a monthly show entitled Cosmic Comedy.   Laurie Kilmartin is stand up comedian and an Emmy-nominated, WGA award-winning comedy writer. She was a staff writer for all 11 years of CONAN on TBS, and has performed standup on CONAN, Late Late Show w/James Corden, and Comedy Central. She was a Top 10 finalist on season 9 of NBC's Last Comic Standing, and has been a guest on Marc Maron's WTF 3 times. She is the author of Dead People Sck, a comedic memoir about grief, and Shitty Mom- NY Times bestselling comedy about parenting. Her special 45 Jokes About My Dead Dad, was named Vulture 's Top Ten Comedy Specials of 2016. In 2022, she was a guest in the “Comedy” episdoe of Hillary Clinton's 2022 Apple TV series Gutsy. Her new special “Cis Woke Grief Slut,” taped at Hollywood's El Portal Theater, will be available on all platforms in January, 2024. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Laurie became interested in trying standup after seeing one too male comics talk about women. Even in San Francisco, the early 90s lineups were stacked with men lazily stereotyping approximately half the people in the audience. Laurie distinctly remembers sitting through a comedy showcase, thinking, “I don't like shopping, and I don't go to the bathroom in pairs.” Her need to try standup came from an intense desire to tell her own story, instead of hearing it being told to her by a dude. After a successful first time onstage, Laurie moved back in with her parents, bought a Chevy Blazer and started driving to gigs over the West. By the time she donated the Blazer to KCRW, there were over 500,000 miles on the odometer. She has worked one nighters, comedy clubs, casinos and wars. In fact, she performed for troops in both Iraq wars, including a New Year's Eve show at one of Saddam Hussein's occupied palaces. After ten years of basing herself inNorCal, she relocated to New York City in 1999. In 2003, she added TV writing to her resume, with her first staff job on Comedy Central's Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn. She moved onto “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” tried her hand at daytime on “The Bonnie Hunt Show” before being hired as a monologue writer on “CONAN,” for its entire 11 year run on TBS. In 2006, she became a mom, and in 2009, a single mom.In 2014, she famously (or infamously) live-tweeted jokes her father's hospice passing from lung cancer, and in 2020, she did the same after her mother was hospitalized with COVID. From these literal cremated ashes came her comedy special and second book (“45 Jokes About My Dead Dad” and “Dead People Suck”), and the 3rd titular element of her new special “Cis Woke Grief Slut.” Always hosted by Marina Franklin - One Hour Comedy Special: Single Black Female ( Amazon Prime, CW Network), TBS's The Last O.G, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Hysterical on FX, The Movie Trainwreck, Louie Season V, The Jim Gaffigan Show, Conan O'Brien, Stephen Colbert, HBO's Crashing, and The Breaks with Michelle Wolf.

On today's #NCFWhittle, we are joined by comedy legend Graham Linehan, best known as the creator of comedy hits Father Ted, The IT Crowd and Black Books, but also one of Britain's most prominent campaigners to protect women-only spaces and safeguard children against harmful surgery. Graham's latest book is Tough Crowd: How I Made and Lost a Career in Comedy. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tough-Crowd-... THE SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER ‘A must-read. Funny and utterly compelling' Jonathan Ross "Having cut his teeth in music journalism, Graham Linehan became the finest sitcom writer of his generation. He captured the comedy zeitgeist not just as the co-creator of Father Ted but also with The IT Crowd and Black Books, winning five Baftas and a lifetime achievement award. Then his life took an unexpected turn. When he championed an unfashionable cause, TV commissioners no longer returned his emails, showbiz pals lost his number and his marriage collapsed. In an emotionally charged memoir that is by turns hilarious and harrowing, he lets us into the secrets of the writing room and colourfully describes the high-octane atmosphere of a sitcom set. But he also berates an industry where there was no one to stand by his side when he needed help. Bruised but not beaten, he explains why he chose the hill of women and girls' rights to die on – and why, despite the hardship of cancellation, he's not coming down from it any time soon." https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tough-Crowd-Made-Career-Comedy/dp/1785633066 --------------- SUBSCRIBE: If you are enjoying the show, please subscribe to our channel on YouTube (click the Subscribe Button underneath the video and then Click on the Bell icon next to it to make sure you Receive All Notifications) AUDIO: If you prefer Audio you can subscribe on iTunes or Soundcloud. And as if that's not enough, in her previous incarnation as a standup comedian, Andi won the Funny Women Award. Well, now she's turned her hand to fiction. Her new book, Tough Crowd, is a laugh out loud romantic comedy about a subject very close to my heart: what it means to be a step-parent - or sparent as she so brilliantly dubs it. And, crucially, how to survive it.Andi joined me to talk about being a teenage dork, how getting back in touch with her estranged dad gave her renewed respect for her mum and giving herself permission to be creative. She also told me about checking in with your heart, why it's OK to mourn your younger self and how she realised she didn't want kids but she did want a family. We also, of course, talk about the challenge of taking on someone else's kids. I think this is the first time we've discussed this, which is ironic, in the circs. If you enjoyed this episode. The one and only Jim Norton joins us to discuss survival shows, fighting kids, and getting replaced by evil clones. We also plot how we'd destroy the earth. Known for his aggressive style, his love of controversial subjects, and his hatred of Derek Jeter, comedian Jim Norton has earned a fanatical following thanks to his busy touring schedule and hilarious contributions to the Opie & Anthony radio show. He hit the standup circuit in 1989 and met comic Jim Florentine a year later. The two would become friends and roommates, and would tour together for several years while both were pursuing careers in show business. Norton 's big break arrived in 1999 when he became a frequent guest on the nationally syndicated Opie & Anthony radio show. He would officially join the O&A crew five years later as the show was making the jump to XM Satellite Radio. Appearances on television as a Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn panelist and a co-star on Louis C.K. 's HBO series Lucky Louie led to Norton landing his own one-hour HBO special, Monster Rain, which aired in 2007. He has a radio show with Sam Roberts on SiriusXM. This Sunday, Spain is holding a general election, after the current Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, dissolved parliament in May and called for a snap election. Aitor Hernández-Morales, a reporter for Politico Europe and Professor of Gender Studies at LSE Mary Evans discuss some of the issues of concern around gender equality, women's rights, gender based violence and the rights of the LGBTQ+ community. A video showing two women being paraded naked by a mob in the state of Manipur has sparked outrage and protest throughout India. To discuss the background to this case and how women's bodies have become a battleground during conflict, Anita hears from the BBC's Geeta Pandey from Delhi. The stand-up comedian and actor Andi Osho has just written her second novel, ‘Tough Crowd'. It is the story of Abi, a wannabe-comedian, who meets Will and quickly falls in love. However the relationship is complicated because her new beau is a dad. Andi joins Anita to talk about some of the themes of her writing; blended families, grassroots comedy and the power of friendships. Rally driver Catie Munnings joins Anita to discuss taking part in the World Rallycross Championships taking place this weekend. She's also an ambassador for Girls on Track, which works to encourage girls into the motorsport industry. Presenter: Anita Rani Producer: Dianne McGregor
