Just like that Clint Gutherson is no longer an Eel and is now a Dragon. The Tip Sheet signs off on Gutho's stellar career at the club as Sixties and Forty20 celebrate his legacy as an Eel. The show then delves into the latest developments on Josh Addo-Carr and Jayden Brailey for the club. AJ Brimson landed himself momentarily in a spot of bother on Melbourne Cup Day but successfuly employed the Shane Warne defence. The reasons why Terrell May is no longer a Rooster take another twist while Exra Mam is in the hole for nearly half a million dollars after his car crash. It is a lot to sift through but the biggest news this week is the Knights Group officially backing the bid for the Christchurch Orcas. Finally, the boys continue their coverage of the Pacific Champions as we reach the finals batch of games. Tonga are preparing to upset the Kangaroos in the men's final while the Jillaroos are looking to wrap up a dominant international campaign in their rematch with the Kiwi Ferns. Alongside both these games are the crossover matches between New Zealand and PNG for the men and Samoa and PNG for the women.
Joins Jimmy Smith to talk more NRL off-season stories... including his response to the Terrell May release being reported as being due to an interview with him and the latest on Clint Gutherson and Ben Hunt's contract situations and they approach signing with new clubs. Catch up on all the Rugby League news from NRL 360, Wednesday the 14th of August, with hosts Braith Anasta and Gorden Tallis. The NRL 360 panel take a look into the inductees that recently were named into the NRL Hall of Fame, headlined by Maroons legends Cameron Smith and Johnathan Thurston. The panel then discuss if Dragons five-eighth Kyle Flanagan's ban might have been 'too severe'. The boys then take a look into this round's blockbuster clash as the Melbourne Storm travel up to Penrith to take on the Panthers, and then touch on the likelihood of the Dragons making a play for Eels captain Clint Gutherson. They might have gone down by 18pts to the Melbourne Storm but it was easily the best energy and effort we have seen from the Eels for weeks. if not months. Sadly, they let themselves down in execution and their own playcalling to let slip a golden chance to stun the presumptive minor premiers. Sixties and Forty20 discuss the Round 21 result and how the Eels rallied in spite of a gulf in available talent between the two teams. As expected, Clint Gutherson stood tall in his 200th game as a Parramatta Eel but who else stood out alongside him? The boys were joined by an icon of the code in the Pregame Show as Sixties and Forty20 welcomed Steven Edge to The Tip Sheet. Captain of Parramatta's historic 3-peat (and a couple more at the Dragons!) and a foundational player in State of Origin, Edge is very much a living legend and he shares a wealth of knowledge and insight with the boys.
The preview podcast has another grade to cover this week as The Tip Sheet look at season launch of the NRLW. Sixties and Forty20 analyse how the Eels match up against the Broncos and how Steve Georgallis and his charges will play in 2024. The HNWP and NSW cup squads have tough match-ups this week with both teams looking to bounce back from consecutive losses. In the NRL, Parramatta are hosting the outright competition leaders in the Storm...who also welcome back Cameron Munster alongside several other players. It is Gutho's 200th game as an Eel so can the Blue & Gold spring a massive upset?
