Locked On Capitals - Daily Podcast On The Washington Capitals
In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the goalie situation. Zach Fucale and Hunter Shepard are UFA's at the end of the season. The question of if the Bears should bring them both back is complicated. The Bears recently signed Mitchell Gibson. From Nova Caps: "The Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli is reporting that the Washington Capitals have signed goaltender prospect Mitchell Gibson to a one-year deal. Gibson is also expected to sign an amateur tryout agreement (ATO) with the Hershey Bears, which will allow him to join the team this season." Seems like a solid option for years to come. Later Dan talks about James van Riemsdyk. In a piece in the Hockey Writer's they talk about him being a viable option. Dan weighs the pros and cons and how he doesn't really fit the narrative of the team getting younger. In the final segment Dan talks about Caps prospect Henrik Rybinski and where he fits in with the Capitals long term plans. According to The Hockey Writer's "The Capitals signed Rybinski to a three-year entry-level contract in March 2022, and he has been playing in the American Hockey League (AHL) with the Hershey Bears since the start of the 2022-23 season. He has transitioned well to the professional level, with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points through 44 games, as well as a plus-5 rating and 18 penalty minutes. He seems like a good option not this season, but maybe a season or two from now.CHAT ONE ON ONE ABOUT THE CAPS ON SUBTEXT: https://joinsubtext.com/lockedoncapitalsSupport Us By Supporting Our Sponsors!Built BarBuilt Bar is a protein bar that tastes like a candy bar. In this edition of Locked on Capitals I'm joined by Luke James of the Hockey Writer's as we talk about the outlook for this year's Capitals team. We'll talk about Alex Ovechkin's goal chase and when will he pass Gordie Howe, and what will stand in his way from passing Wayne Gretzky. Excellent time chatting with longtime & veteran college hockey writer Neil Koepke in this episode! Neil joined Fred Pletsch and I to talk about several topics, great listen for the college hockey fan or hockey fan in general with Neil, who has nearly 50 years of covering the sport! We started out talking about his younger years as a goalie, growing up in Cleveland, going to Ohio State as a goalie for 1 year, there he played for Harry Neale, who later in his career, spent several years as the top analyst for "Hockey Night in Canada", Neale was a founding force in Ohio State's hockey program. Later in his college years Neil transferred to the University of Detroit, it was there he started to find his way a journalist/writer covering hockey. Neil spent several years on the University of Michigan hockey beat before he started on the beat of Michigan State hockey in the mid 80's, he's still on the beat today covering Spartan hockey and college hockey! We talked about some his fondest memories of covering the Spartans, the late, great Ron Mason, his top players and moments in Spartan hockey history, and so much more in this entertaining episode!!
