Life is a series of new beginnings. Each morning when we wake up, it is a new opportunity to live for the Lord. This week we move from 2024 to 2025 and we don't know what the year will bring. It's often said that we don't know what the future holds, but we know who holds the future. The God that created everything… Is the one who we can count on to see us through whatever lies ahead for each of us. As we move into the new year, we thought it would be fun to bring our most listened to and most requested program back for an encore appearance. This program has more laughing than all of the rest of the programs combined. If you have never heard it, you will be greatly entertained and if you have heard it before… you will laugh even harder this time! More importantly with the laughter is the story of new beginnings with the two brothers who join us. They share how they went from a life of religion to a life of a relationship with Jesus Christ because of the boldness of a good friend and his persistence in sharing the Gospel!

In the early 1990's, California Medical Facility (CMF) created one of the nation's first licensed hospice units inside a prison. This 17-bed unit serves inmates from all over the state who are approaching the end of their lives. A few are let out early on compassionate release.  Many are there until they die. Today's podcast is part one of a two-part podcast where we spend a day at CMF, a medium security prison located about halfway between San Francisco and Sacramento, and the hospice unit housed inside its walls.  We start off part one by interviewing Michele DiTomas, who has been the longstanding Medical Director of the Hospice unit and currently is also the Chief Medical Executive for the Palliative care Initiative with the California Correctional Healthcare Services.  We talk about the history of the hospice unit, including how it was initially set up to care for young men dying of AIDS, but now cares for a very different demographic – the rapidly aging prison population.  We also talk about the eligibility for the unit, what makes it run including the interdisciplinary team and the inmate peer workers, and the topic of compassionate release. Afterwards, we chat with the prison's chaplain, Keith Knauf.  Keith per many reports, is the heart and sole of the hospice unit and oversees the Pastoral Care Workers.  These are inmates that volunteer to work in the hospice unit, serving a mission that “no prisoner dies alone.”   We chat with Keith about how hospice in prison is different and similar to community hospice work, the selection process and role of the peer support workers, the role of forgiveness and spirituality in the care of dying inmates, and what makes this work both rewarding and hard. Part two of the podcast, which comes next week, is solely focused on the Pastoral Care Workers.  We interview three of them in the hospice unit and take a little tour of the hospice gardens.

It's Wednesday July 20th, 2022, and from Victoria, this is a look at the information security news from overnight. From BleepingComputer.com:The Knauf Group, a large Germany based building materials company, has announced it has been the target of a cyberattack that has disrupted its business operations. Their global IT team has shut down all systems to isolate the incident. Knauf has not confirmed it is a ransomware attack, but the Black Basta group has claimed responsibility for the attack on their extortion site. So far they claim to have released about 20% of the information they stole, which indicates they are likely still hopeful to receive a ransom from the victim. From TheHackerNews.com:Researchers have disclosed a brand-new ransomware family written in Rust, that Kaspersky Labs has named Luna. The ransomware is fairly simple and appears to be in its early development. It is designed to be used by Russian speaking threat actors, and can run on Windows, Linux, and ESXi systems. From ZDNet.com:Critical security vulnerabilities in the MiCODUS MV720 vehicle GPS tracker could be used to remotely track, stop or even take control of vehicles in which it is installed. These devices are popular with large companies and government entities, with approximately 1.5 million of them currently in use in 169 countries. Researchers at BitSight, who found the flaws, say these devices should not be used until patches are available. No word from MiCODUS on when that might be. From SecurityWeek.com:Oracle's quarterly Critical Patch Update has a total of 349 new security patches, including 230 for vulnerabilities that can be exploited by remote, unauthenticated attackers. 64 of the vulnerabilities are rated critical, with four of those scoring a ten out of ten. Financial Services Applications received the largest number of fixes, followed by Oracle Communications, then Fusion Middleware. Get your patch on kids. And last today, from ThreatPost.com:A Magecart campaign has been skimming payment-card credentials from customers using three online restaurant-ordering systems. The attack has affected over 300 restaurants and compromised at least 50,000 cards so far, which have already been offered up for sale on the dark web. The platforms impacted are MenuDrive, Harbortouch, and InTouchPOS. That's all for me today. Have a great rest of your day. Like and subscribe, and until next tomorrow, be safe out there.
