Blamison start a new series covering the main entries into the ALIEN franchise starting with the greatest of all 1979's Alien. We talk about how great the acting is, how seamless the effects are (and how they hold up over time) and some of our reasons for considering this movie a masterpiece. Also, talked about: why this August is gonna be a great music month and various other tangents as we attempt to get to the movie bullshit quicker than normal. The Great Eagles a lighthearted discussion about why the eagles didn’t help destroy the ring Welcome to the first episode of The Fifth Age Podcast: Tolkien Stories! In this episode, we talk about the great eagles. We address the idea that the eagles could help destroy the ring, like they do in the How It Should Have Ended video. Why do they help all these times throughout history, but fail to help their buddy Gandalf with his jewelry problem? We discuss the Council of Elrond several times. Dan has trouble letting go of the fact that the great eagles can talk. Erica makes vague allusions to the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales stories where the eagles get their talons all up in people’s business. Why can’t Legolas just surf an eagle into Mordor while Frodo sinks the ring into Mount Doom? We give a shoutout to Marc Singer’s abs in Beastmaster. In the end we decide that the destruction of the ring is a special forces mission not an airdrop, and most importantly that the Eagles don't actually do things for people, they come in after it's already done. Episode Timeline: 00:52 The eagles and Elrond are neighbors. 01:03 Why are the eagles in the Misty Mountains? 02:15 Just big talkin’ eagles - some sources say they are spirits or maia, but it’s pretty vague. 02:45 Vala and Maia 03:06 Giant talking eagles 04:12 They are pretty Deus Ex Machina when they show up, aren’t they? 05:47 Correction: The Misty Mountains are not “pretty far west” for the eagles. We meant east because Beleriand reasons. 05:50 Ages - there are 3 ages of Middle-Earth The first age ended with the fall of Morgoth. The second age ended with the defeat of Sauron in the last alliance. The third age ended with the destruction of the ring and Sauron’s fall. 06:25 Link to How It Should Have Ended video: https://youtu.be/1yqVD0swvWU 08:13 How do eagles get involved with Saruman, Radagast, and Gandalf? 11:09 Council of Elrond 14:27 Eagles versus nasssty orcses 15:04 How were eagles involved in The Hobbit? 16:15 Gandalf and his eagle buddies! 19:25 C’mon Gandalf, you know it’s a bad idea to fly into Mordor Do you know why? 19:40 IT’S OBVIOUS! (this is where we finally answer the question) 21:00 Legolas!? 22:17 The black breath 23:07 Couldn’t have they distracted Sauron? 23:57 That neat little moth! 26:33 What else did the eagles do? Beren and Luthien and Maedhros (or as we like to call him, Elfy McElfypants) 29:02 You stand out to Sauron when you come zooming in at big flamin’ eye level! 31:00 Frodo and Sam are a special forces unit. 33:25 A few more things the eagles did 34:24 Beastmaster: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0083630/?ref=m_nv_sr_ 35:00 Erica is so done with Dan not being able to accept eagles talking. 35:24 Send us memes about the great eagles. 36:14 Divine intervention 37:19 Success! Episode 47 of the "Knights of Vader – A Star Wars Podcast!" Tonight… Zack, Mark and Zenger discuss David Benioff and D.B. Weiss joining Lucasfilm to make an undisclosed number of Star Wars films. Just what Star Wars needs... more brand dilution and oversaturation! It will be alright though, Kathleen Kennedy will fire them in the next couple of years and replace them with a “washed up” facsimile. On top of that, the fellas discuss the How It Should Have Ended video for The Last Jedi & how it incorrectly reaffirms what needed to be “fixed” about The Last Jedi. Check out Zenger’s main show ZengThis, available on all major podcasting platforms!
The Never Ending Cliff Hanger Saga This week on the show Johnny and Brian are talking about This is Us and the recently released reports that Zack Snyder's ouster from Justice League may have been less than mutual. After listening to our episode this week make sure to hop on over and check out our new friends at the Rogue Squadron Podcast. Then hit up YouTube for the latest How It Should Have Ended: The Last Jedi. Was Zack Snyder Fired from Justice League? The road to Justice League arriving on the big screen was long and full of potholes. Even before Zack Snyder was ever attached to the project, George Miller's Justice League: Mortal was famously on the cusp of beginning its Austrailia shoot before production was delayed, leading to an eventual cancelation altogether. A few years later, Zack Snyder's success with Man of Steel convinced Warner Bros. to move forward with the team-up movie once again, green lighting Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice for Zack Snyder to bridge the gap from Man of Steel to a two-part Justice League team up. In our world, unexplained phenomena are represented by two separate, yet equally important groups: the mysterious beings who perpetrate these events, and The FBI Agents who investigate them. These are their stories… Join Courtney and Alison as they recap S02E07 of the X-Files – “3” – and learn about amazing unsolved mysteries such how to get the most bang for your buck out of the visual imagery in your mis-en-scene, how the ladies of the XX Files like their yonic loaves, and the most fun you'll ever have with twelve friends in a hot tub. Also don't miss the official debut of our new segment “How It Should Have Ended” with an amazing intro jingle by the incomparable Sasja Smolders.
In this episode, we talk with comic creator and animator, Otis Frampton. If you’ve ever been on YouTube, there’s a pretty good chance you’ve been exposed to his work, because he’s the background artist on the massively popular animated parody series, HOW IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED. Otis is also the creator, writer and artist on the all ages Image Comics series, ODDLY NORMAL. Two trade paperback volumes of Oddly Normal are available now, with volume three coming in April. We talk with Otis about juggling the demands of his mostly one-man-show comic series with work on How It Should Have Ended, along with his webcomic ABCDEFGEEK, commissions and convention appearances. And we discuss how his love of TV and film led him to work in comics, and how, excitingly, that work is now taking him right back to television.
In this episode, we breakdown Jor-El's plan to stop the Kryptonians; we take a look at the characters, cast, and creators for Suicide Squad; and consider what lessons we can learn from CW's Flash vs. Arrow crossover. We address all the questions below! Why does Jor-El's plan make sense? Why doesn't How It Should Have Ended ending work? Why was Dr. Hamilton on the C-17? Why was it logical for Lois to be on the C-17? What was the Phantom Drive doing for the World Engine? Why did the strikes have to be coordinated? Why couldn't Superman tackle the Black Zero first? Why couldn't the World Engine be sucked into a singularity? What is the Suicide Squad? Why support Warner Brothers Animation direct to video DC projects? How do press releases tell us Superman is going to get more screen time than Batman? What can the characters, cast, and creators tell us about the DCCU? Why not shoot entirely in IMAX? What lessons can we learn from Flash vs. Arrow? In this episode's mail bag: Does killing Clark Kent solve the secret identity issue? Why didn't Jor-El jump the Black Zero into a star or blow Zod out the airlock? Will Zod return in BvS? Will the DCCU movies be in chronological order? Will they explain the changes to Superman's suit? Flame of the Week by Bryce :: (hatemail@otakugeneration.net) Nothing to be "flipped this week"... we have something... but bryce hasn't read it yet... anyhow, direct any of your flames / hatred to Bryce at: hatemail@otakugeneration.net, and he'll flip it to something amusing. Don't be nasty, or rude... this might not last as a segment idea, but we thought we'd give it a try. OG "guess the character in the envelope" Contest Bryce had a great idea for a contest... The cast has picked an anime character, wrote it down on a piece of paper, and sealed it up in an envelope. You the listener must figure out who the "character in the envelope" is... This week we didn't give an clues for the contest. Not enough of your lazy bums, responded. The prize will be a pack of goodies, a Lisa Ray CD, and maybe something more *hint*hint*cough*... So you ask what are the rules? Well they're pretty simple. First off, we will only accept one guess per email, once a week. If you put more than one guess, in an email, we will only take the first guess. You cannot enter more then once an week, and not more then once per email. Please pay attention to the use of the word "character", it could be a person, animal, car, mech, bryce, paul, a tree, a rock (assuming they are portrayed as "character" some how), almost anything. Each week will reveal a little more about the "character in the envelope" in an anime, until some one guesses it right, and wins. As usual listen to the show for more details, and email your guesses to: otaku.generation@gmail.com, and use the subject line of: OG CHARACTER IN THE ENVELOPE CONTEST Again, not enough you lazy bums responded... we're going to insist at least 10 people give their guesses, before we give another clue. We don't mean 10 total, we mean 10 guesses within 1 weeks time. So send your guess in now! There's way more then 10 of you out there downloading, so email-us! It's worth unique prizes from us! The first episode in our eight-episode Deep Dive into Howard's weekly webcomic strip, Schlock Mercenary. We grill Howard on how he taught himself to draw, why he decided to self-publish (hint: his wife, Sandra Tayler, helped him), and how he managed to write an ending. Homework: The "How it should have ended" game: write your own ending(s) to one or more of your favorite things. (For reference, watch some of How It Should Have Ended.)
