In this episode, John Kenny interviews Mark Singer, a professional mindset coach and keynote speaker who shares his incredible story of resilience and overcoming adversity. Mark spent six years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, losing his family in the process. Using this experience as a catalyst for personal growth and transformation, Mark now helps others navigate through challenges, develop resilience, and create the life they desire. He discusses the importance of mindset, the power of choice, and the impact of energy levels on our lives. This inspiring conversation highlights the potential for personal growth and finding fulfillment even in the face of extreme adversity.   KEY TAKEAWAYS Mark Singer is a professional mindset coach and keynote speaker who helps people navigate through challenges and build resilience. Mark's own experience of spending six years in prison for a crime he didn't commit and losing his family in the process has shaped his approach to coaching and helping others overcome adversity. Mark's coaching philosophy is based on the concept of creating a mental and emotional foundation in life, where individuals have control over their thoughts, emotions, and actions. Mark emphasizes the importance of understanding and addressing limiting beliefs that may be blocking personal growth and success. By changing these beliefs, individuals can create a more positive and empowering mindset. Mark also introduces the concept of energy levels, where individuals can operate at different levels of energy ranging from victimhood and conflict to empathy, reconciliation, and non-judgment. By consciously raising their energy levels, individuals can experience greater fulfillment and success in all areas of life. BEST MOMENTS "I found coaching because I was having therapy. It wasn't really cutting the ice with me in terms of helping me move forward."  "It's about learning how you can find these drains, manage them, repair them, fix them, and then increase that energy in those different areas."  "It's not about visualizing and then create, you got to have that belief in you to create whatever it is that you want in your life."  "We're all hardwired to be cynical, to doubt stuff, to judge stuff, to question everything."  "I was pushing myself so bad. I was working 12-hour days, seven days a week. I wasn't really living a very healthy lifestyle."    Links: www.johnkennycoaching.com The Bicycle Affect: https://youtu.be/oO7XZGvdWno Relationship Video course and 1-2-1 coaching: Relationship Ready Online Programme - John Kenny (johnkennycoaching.com) To get in touch - email – john@johnkennycoaching.com or book a complimentary call –https://calendly.com/johnkennycoaching/30min If people want to order a copy of the book then they can just pay postage of £4.95 (RRP £8.99) - www.johnkennycoaching.com/podcast-book-offer Want to be able to address the relationship issues in your life? - Why not book in for a complimentary call and we can discuss how you can get the new started with some new types of relationships - https://calendly.com/johnkennycoaching/30min The Relationship Guy Podcast - https://omny.fm/shows/the-relationship-guy Facebook – https://www.facebook.com/johnkennycoaching LinkedIn – https://www.linkedin.com/in/john-kenny-coaching Insta – https://www.instagram.com/johnkennycoaching/ Twitter – https://www.twitter.com/johnkennycoach YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCHTj9x6Tlo7lcIJITyx-tgQ Clubhouse - @relationshipguy I am John Kenny, Award Winning Relationship Coach. In this edition of The Way Out I'm pleased to bring you my interview with person in long term recovery and CEO of Desert Hope Treatment Center, George Gatski. George shares his journey to and through recovery this point with us with the refreshing candor and insight we've come to know quite well here at The Way Out Podcast and the fashion in which Greg shares his Recovery journey is a shining example of a Powerful Recovery story that is ultra relatable and extremely illuminating. Especially enlightening and instructive in George's story are the following messages: first is the exceptionally common experience of our drug of choice being an instant answer to our problems - as George phrases it, like a key in a lock and equally important to understand is most folks don't feel that way when the drink or use substances. Second, and we're fierce advocates of this message, there are no rock bottoms in addiction. The only true rock bottom is when we're dead. Anything short of that is when we stop digging. Instead, there are very often windows of opportunities or bottoms if you will which afford us a chance to enter into Recovery and to make a decision to begin to make the changes we need to make in order to launch our Recovery in earnest. Last but certainly not least, George's message that we're not bad people getting good, instead we're sick people getting well helps us understand that we can shed the shame and guilt wrapped up in our past which is consistent with much of the work that is embodied in the 12 Steps and many other pathways of Recovery. All of this is to say that George's story is a tremendous listen and is jam packed with spiritual and recovery truth so do make sure you listen up.   Reach out to George Gatski and Desert Hope Treatment Center:   https://deserthopetreatment.com/contributors/george-gatski-mba-cadc/   Recovery Literature (quit-lit) Recommendations:   NA Basic Text - https://www.na.org/?ID=literature   Untethered Soul by Mark Singer - https://untetheredsoul.com/untethered-soul   Best pieces of Recovery Advice:   I'm not a bad person getting good I'm a sick person getting well My head lies to me   Song that symbolizes Recovery to George: We belong by Pat Benetar - https://youtu.be/qxZInIyOBXk   Don't forget to check out “The Way Out Playlist” available only on Spotify. Mark Singer 58, anaplastic thyroid cancer, Barrington, RI   In the early stages of the pandemic, Mark knew something was wrong when he noticed a small lump on his neck. Soon after, he went to an ER for testing and received a diagnosis of anaplastic thyroid cancer, a very serious form of the disease which prior to 2017 had a one-year survival rate of 10% -20%.  After Googling “Best Cancer Hospitals in New England,” Dana-Farber moved to the top of his list for care. Mark started with a year of immunotherapy treatments with Nivolumab, also known as Opdivo, and Dupixent, which he still currently takes, for any side effects. Immunotherapy is a new cancer treatment that allows the body's own immune system to recognize and kill cancer cells.  Mark had a rapid and profound response and has shown no evidence of disease for over a year. In addition to immunotherapy, his care team was able to remove a cancerous tumor from his thyroid, several cancerous lymph nodes, and perform vocal-chord repaire surgery.  Today, Marks feels mostly back to his pre-cancer self. You can find him boating around Lake Winnipesaukee or riding on his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He's supported by his wife, Mary, and their two children, Michael and Maggie.

Markets go through cycles, and the way we perceive the fluctuations is influenced by personal perspective and how we time our own financial decisions. Tune in for more insight. Highlights: -The markets always go through cycles, so nothing has necessarily changed in that regard -Bear markets happen every 3.5 years, so what has changed? -For most, the current markets don't have a true impact on their long term lives unless they are highly dependent upon portfolio income -This time being different than last time in regard to the markets going down has to do with perspective -The markets overreact on the upside and downside -The real problem that people face in planning their retirement is timing -The fixed income markets have been disastrous -When consumer sentiment is at a low, markets rebound strongly -The biggest mistake you can make right now is to overreact Useful Links: Financial Survival Network Mark Singer

Summary: As you get older, it's important to have a plan regarding retirement, social security, and medicare. I speak with Mark Singer to address how changes in the economy are affecting these things, and what the benefits will look like based on the circumstances. Social security is seeing a substantial increase, but at the cost of the funds potentially running out faster. Tune in to get insight from Singer and myself on how you can prepare for what's to come. Highlights: -Lots of individuals are wondering what to do in terms of social security, medicare, and retirement -Mark Singer is the proprietor of 55retire -Social security is getting the biggest increase we've seen in decades…will it last? -The first two quarters ran about 5.5-6% higher than the previous year, and for the 3rd quarter it showed a 5.9% increase from the previous year -As a result of this inflation, social security's liquidity decreased by a year -If we do nothing, social security will not have enough necessary funding to provide 100% of the benefit. Starting in 2033, they will be able to pay out 80% of the benefit -There are ways we can increase the funding -Be cautious of long term investments in consideration of interest rates -Inflationary prices will probably stay with us for another year -Get your goals straight and your strategy worked out so that you can prepare for what's to come Useful Links: Financial Survival Network 55retire Retirement Quiz 'What's Inflation?' with Mark Singer 'Semi-Retire at 55' with Mark Singer

The good side. Social security recipients have shortchanged by fake inflation numbers. They'll probably get a 5% increase or more for next year. In most recessions we have supply chain issues. This has resulted in higher prices. The actual numbers are probably running ahead of that. The supply chain issues are starting to get resolved and prices will come back down. Mark believes it will be a short-term blip.  When to take social security? It's situational dependent. Your health, your financial situation and your history. Most people take it too early. It depends on your family situation. There are over 500 different scenarios dealing with Social Security benefits. You need an expert like mark to unravel the mystery.

For many road warriors it was a wake up call. Some people are looking at the event and handing in their retirement papers. Others have simplified their careers and are spending more time with friends and family. It was a great way to gain some perspective on their lives and their direction.    A lot of money left the market after the March 2020 crash and continued to stay on the sidelines. Markets go up and markets go down, sometimes due to internal reasons and other times due to pandemics and other external factors. This illustrates why it’s necessary to have a plan that balances risk and return. Mark’s clients had very little agnst during the March Crash. It turns out that the government thought that this dog-infiltrates-enemy-base, monster-hunts-dog weapons program was a strong enough concept to warrant a second go. Fifth Age Podcast: Tolkien Stories

The Great Eagles a lighthearted discussion about why the eagles didn’t help destroy the ring Welcome to the first episode of The Fifth Age Podcast: Tolkien Stories! In this episode, we talk about the great eagles. We address the idea that the eagles could help destroy the ring, like they do in the How It Should Have Ended video. Why do they help all these times throughout history, but fail to help their buddy Gandalf with his jewelry problem? We discuss the Council of Elrond several times. Dan has trouble letting go of the fact that the great eagles can talk. Erica makes vague allusions to the Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales stories where the eagles get their talons all up in people’s business. Why can’t Legolas just surf an eagle into Mordor while Frodo sinks the ring into Mount Doom?  We give a shoutout to Marc Singer’s abs in Beastmaster. In the end we decide that the destruction of the ring is a special forces mission not an airdrop, and most importantly that the Eagles don't actually do things for people, they come in after it's already done.   Episode Timeline: 00:52 The eagles and Elrond are neighbors. 01:03 Why are the eagles in the Misty Mountains? 02:15 Just big talkin’ eagles - some sources say they are spirits or maia, but it’s pretty vague. 02:45 Vala and Maia 03:06 Giant talking eagles 04:12 They are pretty Deus Ex Machina when they show up, aren’t they? 05:47 Correction: The Misty Mountains are not “pretty far west” for the eagles. We meant east because Beleriand reasons. 05:50 Ages - there are 3 ages of Middle-Earth The first age ended with the fall of Morgoth. The second age ended with the defeat of Sauron in the last alliance. The third age ended with the destruction of the ring and Sauron’s fall. 06:25 Link to How It Should Have Ended video: https://youtu.be/1yqVD0swvWU 08:13 How do eagles get involved with Saruman, Radagast, and Gandalf? 11:09 Council of Elrond 14:27 Eagles versus nasssty orcses 15:04 How were eagles involved in The Hobbit? 16:15 Gandalf and his eagle buddies! 19:25 C’mon Gandalf, you know it’s a bad idea to fly into Mordor Do you know why? 19:40 IT’S OBVIOUS! (this is where we finally answer the question) 21:00 Legolas!? 22:17 The black breath 23:07 Couldn’t have they distracted Sauron? 23:57 That neat little moth! 26:33 What else did the eagles do? Beren and Luthien and Maedhros (or as we like to call him, Elfy McElfypants) 29:02 You stand out to Sauron when you come zooming in at big flamin’ eye level! 31:00 Frodo and Sam are a special forces unit. 33:25 A few more things the eagles did 34:24 Beastmaster: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0083630/?ref=m_nv_sr_ 35:00 Erica is so done with Dan not being able to accept eagles talking. 35:24 Send us memes about the great eagles. 36:14 Divine intervention 37:19 Success!   References: All music is by the amazing Doctor Turtle! Feel free to show him some love over on Bandcamp. When the English concert pianist Joyce Hatto died in 2006, she was remembered as a national treasure for the brilliant playing on her later recordings. But then doubts arose as to whether the performances were really hers. In this week's episode of the Futility Closet podcast we'll review a surprising case of musical plagiarism, which touched off a scandal in the polite world of classical music. We'll also spot foxes in London and puzzle over a welcome illness. Intro: In 1964 a British meteorologist found an abandoned whaleboat on the most remote island in the world.
