The NRL off-season continues, but a big step has been taken this week in the return of the Wests Tigers for 2025. Pre-season training has officially commenced and our star recruit has declared himself a Wests Tiger! On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel is joined by Garry and Nick to discuss the latest from Wests Tigers HQ at Concord. Some of the topics up for discussion include the video message to Wests Tigers fans and members recorded by Jarome Luai in the UK. We talk about the four-time Premiership winner's entrance into the club and what it means to the club, team, and fans. There has also been progress in appointing new independent board members to the Wests Tigers board. That important development is also put under the microscope on this edition of the pod. The boys also discuss the latest on Wests Tigers player recruitment, in particular: The future of Jayden Sullivan at the Tigers The chances of landing discarded Rooster Terrell May The seemingly good chance that Kobe Hetherington will soon be a Tiger How do we fit Sione Fainu into a roster lacking free spaces Then the discussion turns to the 20205 NRL draw, and in particular the best and worst case scenarios for our round one opponent. And there is a quick round of Buy, Sell, or Hold with topics ranging from round one centres to Brent Naden and winning streaks. We hope you enjoy this latest edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast and don't forget to join the discussion today on the Wests Tigers Podcast Forum.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

On this week's episode of BTR we chat to the man behind the design of our 2024 Indigenous Jersey which will be worn on Friday night against the Cowboys. It's a special bitesize edition of BTR where we recognise and celebrate the immense contribution indigenous players – past and present – have made to our game. Uncle Richard Campbell has very close ties to rugby league and indeed to Wests Tigers. He is from the same Indigenous community as current Tigers half, Jayden Sullivan, who quickly suggested that his Uncle Richard should design the jersey. He is also the cousin of former Balmain Tigers player Paul Davis. Richard talks about the significance of NRL Indigenous Round, the important role that rugby league plays in helping Indigenous youth, and his sheer delight in being involved with the club he supported as a child.

The Wests Tigers are back in action in the late game as part of Magic Round on Sunday evening in Brisbane. It's history repeating itself with the Wests Tigers taking on the Dolphins at Suncorp Stadium...for the second time this year! Let's hope the result is the reversal of the match played earlier in the season.  Eddie Otto is in the driver's seat for this slightly delayed version of the mid-week podcast. Declan McCutcheon joins Eddie for a look at everything happening in Tiger Town. The boys discuss the Member's email received after the loss to Newcastle last weekend. Also on the agenda is the future of Wests Tigers great, Todd Payten. Poor old Todd is in the doldrums up in the far north...do we get home as an assistant coach in 2025? Eddie has a round of Buy, Sell, or Hold. Some of the topics include the future of Jayden Sullivan and Adam Doueihi, and ask, would Mika Sivo make a good addition to our club? There's also a preview of the Dolphins clash and putting your thinking cap on for the latest edition of Yioti's Quiz.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Wests Tigers Podcast is back for another post-game edition, once again we're discussing a defeat. Joel Helmes is joined by Eddie Otto and Garry Watson for a look back at the game against the Newcastle Knight in Tamworth. As usual, there's a heap of One Word descriptions submitted by our fellow fans for that Knights game that we run through, including our own. We're doing pretty well with our defense (with a few exceptions) but attack and point scoring remains the Wests Tigers' Achilles heel in 2024 (again!). We take a look at the Tigers attack on this edition of the pod, including a look at how Isaiah Papalli went in his new position of Lock. There's an analysis of the Jayden Sullivan performance, and naturally Brent Naden gets put under the microscope too. And Joel, Garry and Eddie give their thoughts on the Member's email sent by the CEO of Wests Tigers, Shane Richardson. We're on a six-game losing streak but there's still a bit of room for some fun on this big edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast. Ohh and if you're wondering where Joel went mid-show - we can blame that on an electricity Blackout!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Benji Marshall has kicked off his official coaching career with a win over the Warriors in the Preseason Challenge. On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Garry Watson and Declan McCutcheon to put the 18-16 trial game victory under the microscope. Has the game answered any questions regarding our Round 2 line-up? We take a look at some of the key positions that seemingly are still to be decided, including the halves, bench hooker/utility, back-row/lock, and wingers. Naturally, there's a good look at the performance of two of our new recruits - Jayden Sullivan and Aidan Sezer.   With Sullivan and Sezer mostly doing exactly what was expected of them, where does that leave Latu Fainu and Lachlan Galvin? Other aspects of the trial game that come up for discussion include the performance of some of our still raw, but impressive young players such as Navren Willett and Tony Sukkar. And we take a look at position number 30 in the Wests Tigers 2024 roster, asking the question - what position should we target for further strengthening based on that trial performance? It's great to be back talking football, especially a Wests Tigers victory!See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Hooray! The Wests Tigers (and NRL) off-season is officially over and football is about to recommence. And the Wests Tigers are in action this weekend...life is good (well, hopefully, better than it has been in recent years). On this edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast, Joel Helmes is joined by Declan McCutcheon and Garry Watson to preview the trial match (or pre-season challenge) against the Warriors in New Zealand on Sunday. Wests Tigers coach, Benji Marshall, has named a reasonably strong line-up for the first trial, including starting spots for star players such as Jahream Bula, Api Korisau, and David Klemmer. Youngsters like Lachlan Galvin, Tallyn Da Silva, and Navren Willett will also feature, along with new recruits such as Aidan Sezer, Jayden Sullivan, and Samuela Fainu. The boys take a deep dive into the line-up named by Benji, what was a surprise, and what this team might indicate in regards to our round two NRL side. There's a reminder too about getting your tickets on board the coach that is taking Wests Tigers fans to Bathurst. And Yioti pushes the brain power of Declan and Garry in his first Wests Tigers quiz of the new year. The Wests Tigers might not have got the points against the Raiders yesterday, but the side didn't lose any fans. In what was another close loss, Wests Tigers collected their ninth straight defeat, putting the club on its second-worst-ever losing streak. But were there some glimmers of hope in the 22-18 loss to the Raiders? Eddie Otto, Garry Watson, and special guest host Kelly Hollis pull apart the Tiger's performance in the nation's capital. Some of the key talking points from the match review include: The improved performance of Luke Brooks David Nofoaluma's 100 tries for the club (but also his recent form) Is Jahream Bula starting to feel the grind of the NRL? Why do we make so many dumb plays? And, of course, Eddie, Garry, and Kelly take a look at some of the poor officiating the side was exposed to, including Canberra's two very questionable forward pass tries. Away from the match against Canberra, the guys also take a look at the strongly rumored signing of Jayden Sullivan. Is a four-year deal for the dangerous, but inconsistent young Dragon a good one for the club? And just where do we see him lining up in the Tigers team in 2024? While the guys also take a look over the Wests Tigers NRLW loss to Canberra as well. It's a big edition of the Wests Tigers Podcast after another frustrating day at the office, we still hope you enjoy it.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
