Hello and welcome to the first Punks in Pubs podcast of 2019. Happy New Year! We are kicking off the year with a legendary venue — 100 Club. Seeing as the club can't talk, Liam talks to the owner Jeff Horton. They are sat in the same graffiti-riddled dressing room where legends of music such as Jimmy Hedrix, Paul McCartney , The Who, The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols, The Clash, Black Flag, The Jam, The Damend (to name a few) have sat before - playing to the club's intimate capacity of just 350 people! In that room, with the 100 Club dog sat by Liam's side, Jeff and Liam talk history, music and legacy. You will hear names dropped all over the place from Paul Weller to John Lydon to Matt Willis (of Busted). You will also hear stories about how Sid Vicious' actions marked one of the worst days of Jeff's dad's life, how his punk ethics could have had Paul McCartney killed and how the club can be credited for giving Jools Holland life! They, of course, talk about the 1976 Punk Festival that was held at the 100 Club over two days. Bands such as The Sex Pistols, The Damned, The Clash, Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Jam, The Vibrators and The Stranglers "performed" over these two days. This event would change the club and punk forever! You will hear how the club came to be in Jeff's family and how the club came within weeks of shutting its doors forever if it wasn't for a man named Richard Copcutt! Liam and Jeff talk about venue closures and how politicians need to do more to safeguard venues like the 100 Club so the next wave of British music has a home to learn their craft. Jeff talks about his love for punk as well as the two-week punk festival that he puts on himself every Jan. It's going on right now so make sure you go check out the line up online www.the100club.co.uk Lastly, they discuss the 100 Club book that's been created in partnership with Fred Perry and what the future holds for the club moving into 2019. Playing out the show this week are a ska band called P Funk North from New Jersey. Support the podcast and buy yourself a T-shirt. Witnesses throughout town reported seeing the spacecraft as well, but by all reports, they didn’t get any pancakes.
