Yesterday, Adrianne and I went out to one of favorite little coffee shops to have breakfast and spend the morning working. About an hour in, I had this urge to check Instagram, which I rarely do, especially lately. In fact, I haven't really done much online or on social media since the election — I actually leave my phone home more often than not — but for whatever reason, I stopped doing my Morning Pages and picked up my phone and checked Instagram. The first post I saw was a story from Wesley Verhoeve. It was a photo of my friend Pableaux Johnson with a caption that read, “Rest in peace, Pableaux Johnson. Beloved by so many, a true culture documentarian, and a New Orleans treasure.” I was stunned and, in the moment, I honestly didn't understand what I was reading. My first instinct was to respond to Wesley with, “Wait what? Pableaux is a friend of ours. What is this news?” Wesley responded, “He passed away. I'm sorry to bring you this news. I discovered it this morning from various other posts.” After a brief search, a story on on nola.com confirmed it with, “Beloved New Orleans photographer, foodie Pableaux Johnson dies after collapse at second line.” I just sat there in stunned silence as I felt my eyes well up with tears. Adrianne looked up and said, “What?” I just held up my phone so that she could see the story. “Oh, my God,” she said. “Is that real? What is that?” She grabbed her phone and began searching for confirmation.I re-watched Dead Poets Society recently and in learning about Pableaux's death, I was reminded of the first stanza of this poem which was featured in the film.To the Virgins, to Make Much of TimeBy Robert HerrickGather ye rose-buds while ye may,Old Time is still a-flying;And this same flower that smiles todayTomorrow will be dying. The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,The higher he's a-getting,The sooner will his race be run,And nearer he's to setting. That age is best which is the first,When youth and blood are warmer; But being spent, the worse, and worstTimes still succeed the former. Then be not coy, but use your time,And while ye may, go marry; For having lost but once your prime,You may forever tarry.LINKSWesley VerhoevePableaux JohnsonBeloved New Orleans photographer, foodie Pableaux Johnson dies after collapse at second lineRed Beans Road ShowShare Your Favorite Memories of Pableaux JohnsonCONNECT WITH MEWebsite: https://jefferysaddoris.com Instagram: @jefferysaddorisEmail: talkback@jefferysaddoris.comSUBSCRIBESubscribe to Almost Everything with Jeffery Saddoris in your favorite podcast app. You can also subscribe to my newsletter on Substack.

On today's all new episode, we spend some time with producer Christian DeKnatel aka DKNTL and Boston's own Aaron Bear to talk about their collaborative EP that they worked on together, "Grateful Good Times". The fellas take some time to talk about their musical beginnings, their influences that made them want to get into music in the first place, how they joined forces and created something truly special and wholly unique that takes influences from a wide variety of genres, but is unclassificable as a whole. Christian talks about his time with Orson and The Rosebuds and how that prepared him for his project, and how he met up with Aaron to create this EP, what the two learned about themselves after completing the project, what the whole process was like putting it all together, and how gratifying it is to have it out into the open for everyone to hear.

Who is the cleverest person in Britain? When Gyles asked this question to readers of his columns last year, one name was mentioned more than any other; that of Martin Rees, Lord Rees of Ludlow, the Astronomer Royal. Lord Rees is one of the most distinguished scientists in the country, a former President of the Royal Society and a Cambridge fellow. He wrote the first papers on quasars (a type of black hole) and he, alongside other greats such as Dennis Sciama and Stephen Hawking, helped to develop our understanding of the origins of the universe. He is also, Gyles discovers, a man of incredible modesty who just got into science because "he wasn't much good at anything else". This is a wide-ranging conversation which takes in not only Rees's childhood in Shropshire and early academic career, but also includes discussions of the big bang, the future of the earth, and what happens to scientists when they get old. Plus, there's a bombshell revelation about Sir Isaac Newton. This is one of our most profound and intelligent Rosebuds yet: which isn't surprising, given our guest. Thank you, Martin Rees. Gyles takes Rupert Everett back to his childhood and teenage years, and be warned: not only is this episode hilarious, but it's also slightly more adult than our other shows. And it is genuinely one of the funniest Rosebuds yet. The son of an Army Major, Rupert didn't do any of things his parents expected. He was obsessed with Julie Andrews, loved dressing up in his mother's clothes, and was the 'Mata Hari' of his prep school. This refusal to fit in carried on into adulthood, when, at 16 and a half, he became a doyenne of the gay scene in 1970's Earls Court, and wore diamante earrings and no shoes to drama school. In this frank and funny conversation with Gyles, Rupert also reminisces about some of the megastars he's known, including Orson Welles and Madonna. This episode of Rosebud is electric. Enjoy it. It's time, Rosebuds. You're old enough now, you've been through all the seasons. You see, when a couple of players love a game very much, they take a pencil and some paper and make them do a special little dance together. And then BOOM you have a character. This week in the Garden, Caitie and Soren combine their wit, creativity, and goblin energy to birth a spectacular fusion that only a couple of midwest-ttrpg-women could conceive. So grab some snacks, a bevvy, and get ready to welcome a new bud to the Rose Garden! Secretly Society presents a four-episode mini-series about friendship, music, and a story that is both heartbreaking and heartwarming alike - DeYarmond Edison. This series is narrated by the author, a friend of the band, and executive producer of the DeYarmond Edison official boxset 'Epoch', Grayson Haver Currin. This episode starts us off with DeYarmond Edison's move to Raleigh, North Carolina, a town with a buzzing music scene including the likes of The Rosebuds, Bowerbirds, and Ticonderoga. Hear the stories of the beginning of The Bickett Gallery Residency that at points was described as a "spiraling through concentric circles of disorder pushing the standard until it indeed almost broke". Joe brought in themes of improvisation learned at Bennington College, Phil taught the band Delta Blues and strings, Brad played with the idea of 20th-century ambient sounds in the style of Steve Reich's composition, and Justin challenged everyone's vocal capacity - including his own. On this one, I was trying to get someone to come on and talk about Yeezy. Not Yeezy Jefferson, the wife of laundry mogul George Jefferson. This is the other one. He used to be married to some rich woman, but I don't know if it had anything to do with dry cleaning. That was a while ago and I really don't pay a lot of attention to that sort of thing but that's not what this episode's about. It's about the people and the world and the running of it into the ground and for what? On this episode we learn that fun is what's important. And feeling smart. Or at least appearing smart and in the long run, isn't that all that matters?Support the show

James Ellsworth's rise to WWE stardom was 14 long years in the making. Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Ellsworth trained under Axl Rotten and made a living on the independent wrestling scene under the ring name "Pretty" Jimmy Dream. He worked for various promotions over the years - usually in a tag team with Adam Ugly - and made stops in American Combat Wrestling, Big Time Wrestling, First State Championship Wrestling and CZW. Ellsworth made random appearances in the WWE over the years, typically whenever the company ran shows in Maryland or Pennsylvania, usually just filling in as an extra or working as one of Adam Rose's “Rosebuds.” One night in 2016, fate stepped in and turned Ellsworth into a household name thanks to a brief promo before getting squashed by Braun Strowman on Raw. Ellsworth's story about how he found himself on national television involves Arn Anderson and his ability to throw a punch. Ellsworth putting over Strowman lead to meeting Vince McMahon, getting signed with the company, and being thrust into a program with AJ Styles and Dean Ambrose. In this interview, Ellsworth talks about his days on the indie circuit, training with an ECW original, getting his shot with the WWE, his run with Carmella, “winning” the women's Money in the Bank match, and the possibility of being called back to work for the company at any moment. Ladies and gentlemen, entering the podcast, hailing from Glen Burnie, Maryland…this is James Ellsworth. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/not-about-wrestling/support
