Have you ever dreamed of being famous? Imagined what it would be like to have all your dreams come true? Recognition, adoration, basking in the limelight. Sounds wonderful, doesn't it? But dig a little deeper and you'll find that “The Road To Fame” is a prickly path, filled with twists & turns, backstabbing & betrayals. Experience a captivating journey into fame as the performers of Letters Aloud bring to life personal and illuminating letters from renowned figures like Stephen King, Dorothy Parker, Vincent Van Gogh, Emily Dickinson, Bruce Lee, Oprah Winfrey, and Tom Hanks, and explore the steep cost and evolving nature of what it means to be “famous” from those who have traversed its path. A riotously funny, movingly poignant, and thought-provoking experience brought to life by a gifted ensemble of professional actors, with live musical accompaniment, and a dynamic slide show, “Before They Were Famous” is a show that leaves audiences with smiles on their faces and much to discuss on their drive home. Letters Aloud is a performing arts company that brings to life intimate, thought-provoking, and often humorous stories hidden within private letters of the past. Their performances are a unique combination of literature, theatre, and live music that celebrates the beauty of the written word and the human experience. (If you take NPR's Selected Shorts, cross it with The Moth podcast and add just a pinch of the old A Prairie Home Companion, you pretty much have their show…except, of course, with letters.) They believe that letters are more than just pieces of paper; they are windows into the past, bridges between people, and tools for empathy and connection. Reading them aloud in front of an audience makes for a truly unique and powerful collective experience. Whether you're a fan of literature, history, or simply good storytelling, we invite you to join us on a journey through the written word. Letters Aloud is a celebration of the human spirit and we look forward to sharing it with you. At times, words may fail you, but your intention won't. Carl Kennedy is the medicine, marvel & mastery your Actor & Humxn so desperately need right now. Grab a journal, a pen & set some precious time aside for YourSelf & Your Artist. Cuz if you're not currently having fun in your #actorslife, that's a problem!   If you're concerned about what others think of you, freeze up in auditions or callbacks, forgot who the F you are (+ fully owning & expressing YourSelf), feel discomfort in your next growth-edge or have lost faith and need to give your Artist & Humxn some Cosmic & Creative TLC, this prolific stream-of-consciousness episode will keep you on the edge of your earbuds!    As Carl says, “Chicken soup for the soul. Auditions come and go, but you always have to live with you, so let's make sure that's taken care of - let's feed the spirit, then we can get to acting.”   Carl is best known for his Guest Star recurring role as Officer Gordon on Tyler Perry's The Haves and the Have Nots (OWN). His recent TV credits include: The Summer I Turned Pretty (Amazon), A Friend of the Family (Peacock), MIKE (Hulu), and Dynasty (CW). Before his break into TV, Carl flourished on the International stage. His performances as Lucius Jenkins in Jesus Hopped the A Train and John in The Whipping Man earned him "Best Actor" nominations at the Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards held in Vancouver, British Columbia (2010-11, 2014-15 respectively). Carl holds an MFA in Acting from the University of Washington-Seattle and has been seen on regional stages from Portland, OR to Halifax, NS.   Carl is here to remind you of who you are, how powerful you are. When you're ready to receive, it will be given. You will learn:   Why the story has to be more important than the words (theatre thiiiing) Performer concerns vs. Character concerns (+ why it's vital you know & execute the difference) #1 rule of performing (+ the generative concept of ‘yes, and…') Why there's no shame in failing (+ tips to get back UP) How you *truly* impress a Casting Director (it's not what you think) Why Carl doesn't do ‘like' (+ more effective questions to ask YourSelf) How to raise the temperature in any room (& lift the caliber of those around you: actors are GIVERS!!) Why every TV & film actor has to do at least one play (+ falling forward with your intention onstage) Why delaying your gratitude is the hardest thing you will ever do (it's not about earning anything, it's about being prepared for your moment) Why Carl runs towards the things in a script that he doesn't know (whereas most want to polish what they're already good at) Why you need to practice like you intend to perform (+ how to take up space) What Carl does when the bookings are few & far between (better than a vision board!) Why there's no right or wrong, there's only rehearsal and the answer is exploration (I warned you in advance: grab a journal + pen!)   And so much more!! Jesus Hopped the ‘A' Train takes us inside Rikers Island and asks the audience hard questions about justice, punishment, and redemption. Artistic Director Weyni Mengesha moderated a post-show conversation with those on the frontlines of Canada's justice system, including Anthony N. Morgan (Lawyer & Manager of Anti-Black Racism Unit, City of Toronto); Annamaria Enenajor (founder Cannabis Amnesty and Partner at RSED); Faisal Mirza (a criminal trial lawyer with Mirza Kwok); and Emily Lam (Partner, Kastner Lam LLP). This Community Conversation was recorded before the surge in the Black Lives Matter movement currently happening around the world, but we invite you to use your time to listen, reflect, and take action on dismantling the systems of oppression that permeate our society and our community.

It's summer in the city, and Laz and Hector are both on the run from something they can't quite name. Maybe the sudden need for speed has something to do with Laz's sister, who took off two weeks ago, or with Hector's wife, who just called from the hospital. Featuring Bobby Moreno ("Homeland," Lazarus, PoA's Acorn) and Sean Carvajal (Broadway's King Lear, Jesus Hopped the A Train), Marco Ramirez's 3:59 AM: a drag race for two actors paints a blazing, late-night portrait of two young men tearing up the open road - and themselves.   After the play, host Claudia Catania joins director Christian Parker (New Neighborhood, Chair of Graduate Theatre at Columbia) and the cast for a behind-the-mic interview.
