POPULARITY
Ever listened to a football podcast and thought 'This is good, but it would be improved significantly by one of the guests spontaneously breaking into song about the captain of Rangers being an eagle?'. Your prayers have been answered. On episode 40 of the Old Firm Facts podcast, music journalist Jules Boyle discusses the strange feeling he's currently experiencing as a Celtic fan, Celtic's 'street fighter', accusations of being on Marvel's payroll, the key to getting good quotes out of rock stars, bonding with U2 guitarist The Edge and how an interview with Chuck D of Public Enemy led to him being targeted by fascists as a supposed statue-toppling ANTIFA ringleader. Tifo Football analyst, writer, presenter and podcaster JJ Bull talks about what went wrong for Stephen Glass at Aberdeen, chatting to Dave Cormack, Ange Postecoglou's management style, Steve Clarke's strengths and weaknesses, the advice he gives budding football writers, what he learned from taking his SFA coaching badges having one of his football songs played on Channel 4 News and his viral hit concerning Leigh Griffiths' appreciation of bees. Adam puts questions to his guests from social media, asks them to help him debunk a myth involving Celtic fans and the media, and invites them to play a headline-based quiz that's a bit like the one from episode 39 but not quite. Episode 19 sees Andy and Mitch joined by film/music/comic book journalist and soon-to-be author of a book on British horror films, Jules Boyle. His chosen film? Lifeforce! The first in a three picture deal with Golan-Globus' Cannon Group which saw Tobe Hooper also direct Invaders From Mars and Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Lifeforce is a bizarre little film that is as long as it is baffling. Based on Colin Wilson's novel The Space Vampires, Lifeforce was co-written by Dan O Bannon (Alien, Return of the Living Dead). The cast includes Steve Railsback, Peter Firth, Frank Finlay, Patrick Stewart and also features an unforgettable (and formative) performance by Mathilda May as Space Girl! The synopsis is as follows: IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE, THE TERROR BEGINS. When a space shuttle crew finds a mysterious spacecraft containing three human-looking creatures in a state of suspended animation, they bring them back to Earth for further investigation. It's only then that scientists discover that they are in fact a race of space vampires that feed off people's life-force rather than their blood. So when they escape and run amok in London, the consequences are apocalyptic - and the shuttle crew's only survivor seems to be the only man who can stop them. Please note that this podcast definitely contains strong language and INCREDIBLY strong Scottish accents. Remember, you can keep up to date with our news by following us via the usual social media outlets: Facebook Twitter Instagram Plus you can drop us an email to stronglanguageviolentscenes@gmail.com. Strong Language & Violent Scenes theme by Mitch Bain Edits & Artwork by Andy Stewart Excerpt from Harry Mancini's Lifeforce theme used in accordance with fair usage guidelines

Jules Boyle is my guest to discuss the second volume of Slaine's chronicles, and to tell me how he came to be immortalised in the pages of the prog by Glenn Fabry. There are some audio issues with this episode for which I apologise, fortunately Jules has plenty of interesting stuff to say about the history of Slaine and his own adventures as a teenage fan of the Galaxys' greatest comic.Check out Jules' own work on his Big Comic Page, and get your copy of Time Killer from the 2000AD online store. You can find a list of episodes so far and all the upcoming books on the Facebook page, follow the podcast on Twitter, or email me comments and suggestions to MCBCpodcast@gmail.com If you cannot see the audio controls, listen/download the audio file hereDownload hereRight click and choose save link as to download to your computer.
