¿Eres del equipo He-Man o Skeletor? ¿Qué etapa es tu favorita? Masters of the Universe (1987) Director: Gary Goddard Cast: Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Meg Foster, Billy BartyBy the power of Grayskull — and a budget that clearly ran out before they could build a decent set — we're diving headfirst into the gloriously broken 1987 Cannon Films fever dream that is Masters of the Universe. This week, John and Sean strap on their cosmic keys, dust off their He-Man nostalgia (well, Sean's nostalgia — John was busy being a Ghostbusters kid), and try to figure out what the hell they just watched. Oh, and we also talk about Hulk Hogan's new Netflix documentary, Real American, because apparently two massively jacked, possibly fictional characters for one episode wasn't enough. In this episode, we discuss:He-Mansplaining: A Franchise Left Stranded on Earth — Sean breaks down why this movie is basically unwatchable if you didn't grow up playing with Snake Mountain, and actively insulting if you did. No Prince Adam, no Battle Cat, no context — just Dolph Lundgren looking absolutely shredded and wandering around a deserted California town.Canon Fodder: How Golan-Globus Torched Their Own Studio — The behind-the-scenes disaster is almost more entertaining than the film itself. Budget cuts, three days of filming halted because they literally ran out of money, sets being torn down mid-shoot, and props that got recycled into Jean-Claude Van Damme's Cyborg. This is the beautiful chaos of late-80s Cannon Films in full self-destruction mode. The Puff Piece Problem: Hulk Hogan's WWE-Laundered Legacy — The guys dig into Netflix's Hulk Hogan: Real American and call out exactly what it is — a carefully sanitized, WWE-produced hagiography that glosses over the steroids, the racial slurs, the sex tape, and basically anything that would make Terry Bollea look like a human being with flaws. The first three episodes slap. The fourth one chickens out.Skeletor Deserved Better (And So Did We) — Frank Langella shows up, chews every piece of scenery in sight, and delivers the only performance worth watching in this entire movie. James Tolkan's accented cop is deeply out of place and completely hilarious. And poor Billy Barty is buried under pounds of prosthetics as Gwildor, a character so annoying he makes Jar Jar Binks look understated. We Also Talked About:Hulk Hogan: Real American (Netflix, 2026) — A four-episode WWE-produced docuseries covering Hogan's rise from fat kid playing bass in a band to the most recognizable figure in wrestling history. Great archival footage, Linda Hogan telling it surprisingly straight, Jesse Ventura being selectively complimentary, and Donald Trump somehow finding time in his schedule to appear on camera. The Bubba the Love Sponge/racial slur situation? Barely mentioned. The Many Lies of Hulk Hogan (Part 1) (Youtube)The Many Lies of Hulk Hogan (Part 2) (Youtube)I Come in Peace (1990, Dolph Lundgren) — Referenced as a recent pod pick, because apparently the guys can't get enough of Dolph.New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. ¿Quieres ayudarnos a seguir mejorando y creciendo? And the final Chuck Norris Fact is: Death has now been sentenced to life with Chuck Norris. In this bonus episode, Rob and Joe pay tribute to one of action hero cinema's true icons, Carlos Ray “Chuck” Norris. Along with a brief discussion of his life and career, they also dive deep into one of his less celebrated films (even by Chuck Norris fans), the late-cycle Cannon Group production, The Hitman (1991), directed by Chuck's brother, Aaron Norris. There's no Spoiler Territory for this one. Why? Because it's a Chuck Norris film. Deal with it, or he's gonna hit you with so many rights, you're gonna beg for a left. RIP Chuck. James Gunn's Superman (2025) is in cinemas right now, and is really good! It has a wonderful central performance by David Corenswet, and is as colourful as it is hopeful, and we need that right now. As I'm off this week, it felt like a good time to revisit the late Christopher Reeve's iconic performances in Superman II, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Superman III & Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.Technically the first ever quadruple-bill episode (if you also count the Richard Donner cut of Superman II, which we do), as voted for by Patrons of this podcast for, on the history and legacy of Superman II, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Superman III & Superman IV: The Quest for Peace ! The sequels to the previous episode on SupermanSUPERMAN II was inevitable after Richard Donner completed 75% of the movie, filmed at the same time as Superman (1978). His work on the sequel was halted during Superman's production, but as Superman flew into the box office and became a critical and financial success, the sequel was fired up again... and Donner himself was unceremoniously fired from the movie by the Salkinds, and replaced with Richard Lester; a move that didn't go down well with the cast and crew...SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT came about due to the open secret of Richard Donner's material existing in a vault somewhere. After a few legal issues, notably with the estate of Marlon Brando for the production of Superman Returns, a new 2001 DVD version of Superman also led to the discovery of 6 tonnes of unused, previously lost material shot by Richard Donner for Superman II. In an unprecedented (at the time) fan campaign to see Donner's cut, it was finally released to acclaim in 2006...SUPERMAN III is less of a Superman movie, and more of a comedy vehicle for the late, great Richard Pryor, but that didn't mean it was easy to get made. A lot of people were still annoyed at the Salkinds for their treatment of Richard Donner, including Christopher Reeve himself. Reeve almost didn't return as the iconic character, but changed his mind and relished playing Superman vs Superman (which was also almost the title of the movie), but in retrospect it would be a movie he wouldn't have too much fun with, despite the slapstick tone...SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE would only be made after the Salkinds sold the rights to The Cannon Group; a production company known for making low quality movies en masse to make as much profit as possible. Cannon's plan though was big franchises: they bought Superman with the intent of spending $36 million on Superman IV. They were also making Masters of the Universe, the first big screen adventure for He-Man. But Masters of the Universe's financial woes would drastically affect Superman IV, with disastrous consequences for the Superman franchise, and leading to a 19-year wait for Superman to return...This episode was originally released on 16th November 2023Mentioned in this episode:From the ArchiveThere's no new episode this week, so I thought you might be interested in revisiting this slightly older, but no less brilliant episode. Just bear in mind, this episode is several years old, it may not sound quite as polished as newer episodes, and new information may have come to light in recent years with regards to the making of this movie (please see above for the original date of release) Please enjoy this time capsule of an episode. In this week's episode it's the debut of 'Cannon Fodder', a recurring series of episodes where I watch a curated selection of films made by schlockmeisters Golan/Globus in the 1980's for their Cannon Film Group, one of the most entertaining production shingles you'll ever hear or see. In Brad's view, he is a man of the people's cinema and I am a high-minded, opinionated cinephile. Duly diagnosed, I agreed to expand my horizons under Brad's careful tutelage. The result is either an epic argument or filled with surprises...or both. Here's a great must-see documentary about the "Go-Go Boys" as they're known. Here's some info about my frequent guest Brad Kane. Watch '10 to Midnight' Here's the Cannon Group's wiki page.

After being exposed to the so-called bad boys of bodybuilding with Double Trouble last year, Dave decided to pick the breakthrough movie for Peter and David Paul. The Canon Films sword-and-sorcery adventure, The Barbarians. The Barbarians (1987) was a quintessential example of 1980s sword-and-sorcery filmmaking, helmed by cult director Ruggero Deodato, best known for his controversial work on Cannibal Holocaust. Shot on location in Italy and Yugoslavia, the film embraced the rugged landscapes and ancient ruins of Eastern Europe to create its gritty, fantastical world. The producers, including the legendary Cannon Group, aimed to capitalize on the success of films like Conan the Barbarian, infusing the project with a mix of campy action and over-the-top theatrics. Real-life bodybuilder twin brothers Peter and David Paul, dubbed "The Barbarian Brothers," were cast as the lead warriors, their muscular physiques and comedic chemistry serving as the film's primary draw. The production leaned heavily into the aesthetics of the genre, with elaborate costumes, oversized weapons, and practical effects dominating the visual style. Special care was given to creating the film's larger-than-life set pieces, which often featured a mix of brutal combat and exaggerated physical comedy. The soundtrack, composed by Pino Donaggio, added an epic, adventurous tone to the film. While The Barbarians was far from a critical success, it gained a cult following for its unabashed embrace of cheesy spectacle and campy performances. Deodato's direction ensured that the film maintained a self-aware sense of humor, making it a memorable, if not particularly polished, entry into the sword-and-sorcery genre. If you enjoy the show we have a Patreon, so become a supporter. www.patreon.com/thevhsstrikesback Plot Summary Twin brothers Kutchek and Gore are raised as slaves after their peaceful tribe is attacked by the tyrannical warlord Kadar. They grow into mighty warriors determined to reclaim their freedom. Separated as children and forced into gladiatorial combat, the brothers reunite and embark on a quest to rescue their people and recover a magical ruby that holds the key to their tribe's survival. Along the way, they face off against Kadar's forces, monstrous creatures, and treacherous obstacles, relying on their strength, courage, and occasionally bumbling teamwork. thevhsstrikesback@gmail.com https://linktr.ee/vhsstrikesback
Hey! Hey! Hey! BIM's on the way! This week Bryan and Dave take a good long look at the abyss and the abyss stares back when they watch the movie that launched The Cannon Group into the American imagination, a movie musical so poorly received that it nearly drove its director to leap from his hotel balcony at the premier. The Apple is what happens when a producer knows that he wants to make a big musical that's sure to capture some of the excitement that Grease generated but without really knowing what makes a musical work. It's a movie so profoundly bad, with bad acting, bad characters, and the worst thing a musical can have: bad music. Nothing about this baffling movie works and it is plainly obvious for anyone to see. It's simply amazing that the director, Menahem Golan was so caught off guard by its failure. Some movies are so bad that they end entire careers. This one almost ended Golan's life. Be kind rewind.
This week, Bryan and Dave are joined by Jonny Atkinson of Uy Que Horror to talk He-Man as they take a real deep dive into the movie that drove the final nail into the Cannon Group's coffin, Masters of the Universe. We discuss the movie's enduring status as a cult film against all odds, the intense nostalgia high of a movie that seems to have gotten better with age, the utterly bonkers history of the Cannon Group, a production company that flew too close to the sun, as well as run down the troubling allegations facing the film's director, Gary Goddard.
For the latest Everything Action Commentary, Zach and Chris are joined again by special guest Phil from Digital Pimp to watch another terrible comic book movie, Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. In the final Superman film starring Christopher Reeve, the madmen at The Cannon Group acquired the rights to Superman, even though they were hemorrhaging money, and pitted the Man of Steel against a radioactive glam rock villain, Nuclear Man (Mark Pillow) as part of Lex Luthor's (Gene Hackman) scheme. Margot Kidder, Marc McClure, and Jackie Cooper return as Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen, and Perry White, respectively, while Jon Cryer co-stars as Lex's nephew Lenny, and Mariel Hemingway plays the horny new editor of The Daily Planet, Lacy Warfield. While watching the movie, the guys discuss how it seems like Gene Hackman had no restrictions on his wardrobe or set design, how most of the movie is a wacky 80s sitcom, Nuclear Man's absurd weakness to darkness, the bonkers gym scene, and more. You can watch Superman IV: The Quest for Peace on Max. Bobby, Brady, Vaughn, and Mike discuss one of the attempts for the Cannon Group to go legit with the John Frankenheimer thriller, 52 Pick-Up. Written by Elmore Leonard (Grindbin all-star for Stick), starring Roy Scheider and Ann-Margret, and featuring incredible performances from John Glover and Clarence Williams III, this movie is a real hidden gem in the Cannon catalog. Even stranger, this might not be the first time Cannon tried to adapt this film...
We're again returning the Cannon Group well for this year's October Off Week and coming up with Tobe Hopper's Invaders From Mars remake from 1986, featuring Laraine Newman! It's got Hooper in the directors chair, Dan O'Bannon on script and Stan Winston on effects. Can such pedigree produce a fun, sci-fi romp? Tune in to find out!
Good journey! On today's episode Mike is joined, once again, by Peter Marsh (Comic Books Transformed / Lassercast) to discuss more Masters of the Universe! This time its the 1987 cult classic movie version, produced by The Cannon Group. This movie could only be made in the 80s, its colorful, scary, mean, silly, sexy, yet still for children! This week, Dave and Bryan are joined by Jeffrey Nelson, co-creator of the Scream Factory label for Shout Factory, to talk about the utterly unhinged Charles Bronson detective movie, 10 To Midnight. It's the tale of a cop, a father, his bleeding heart liberal, college-educated partner, and a serial killer whose nude and on the loose. Bronson could catch his man if it weren't for all the sleazy lawyers and liberal courts who want to coddle the criminal element instead of punish them. You'll be hard-pressed to find another movie that so brazenly espouses the dominant political theory of the Reagan 80's. It's a real NRA fever dream and an unintentionally hilarious piece of camp from the Cannon Group. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bring-me-the-axe/message
In the Year of Our Chuck Norris, 1986, a little movie from the Cannon Group came out as what was supposed to be a sequel to a movie we did not that long ago - Invasion U.S.A. Chuck said no to the film so it was passed on to Cannon's main man, Michael Dudikoff who took up the mantle of Matt Hunter quite well, thank you very much. The movie wasn't a sequel anymore, it was a stand-alone movie (with a lead character who just happened to be named Matt Hunter...don't think about it too long). Bad, racist men doing bad man racist things and we *reeeeeaalllly* want them to get killed. Have a listen to our talk-through and laugh along with us while Dudikoff and Steve James whoop some ass. Also, thanks to David Bone for the Facebook request! Welcome back to another exciting episode of Not A Bomb Podcast. This is the podcast where we re-examine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history. Oh man, do we have a treat for you! This week's show is all about Cannon films, and you can't talk about Cannon without Austin Trunick. Austin is the author of two excellent retrospective books - The Cannon Film Guide: Vol 1 and 2. If you have ever wanted to know something about Cannon Films, Austin is the guy to talk to. While Cannon created a ton of cult favorites, they also dipped their toes into some prestige storytelling. We decided to go a bit more “highbrow” with this week's choice and are discussing 1985's Runaway Train. This Academy Award nominated film started as a screenplay by legendary filmmaker Akira Kurosawa and was passed around by several Hollywood executives. The story of two escaped convicts who become stuck on a…you guessed it…runaway train finally found a home with Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus. Austin brings so much insight to this film and we are super excited he joined us for this week's conversation. So, sit back, relax, and learn all about one of the best stories to come out of The Cannon Group, Runaway Train. Runway Train is directed by Andrei Konchalovsky and stars John Voight, Eric Roberts, Rebecca De Mornay, Kyle T. Heffner, John P. Ryan, T.K. Carter, and Kenneth McMillian.Be sure to check out The Cannon Film Guide: Vol 1 and Vol 2, or please support your local bookstore and ask them to order it for you. When architect-turned-vigilante Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson) returns to New York City, he discovers that one of his friends has been murdered by gang members. After the cops bring Paul in for questioning, he receives a tempting offer from the police chief (Ed Lauter) : Paul can have free rein to eliminate the gangsters, as long as the police get the credit. Paul agrees and goes to war against Manny Fraker (Gavan O'Herlihy) and his vicious gang of thugs. Initial release: November 1, 1985 Director: Michael Winner Box office: 16.1 million USD Distributed by: The Cannon Group, Inc., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Based on: Characters; by Brian Garfield Music by: Jimmy Page
This week Bryan and Dave kick off the new year and hit peak holiday horror movie burnout when they go deep with the 1980 slasher movie, New Year's Evil. Cannon Group wasn't exactly known for horror movies and it'll take them a few years before they work it out but these nascent attempts to get a piece of the action during the golden age of the slasher turned out some really weird misfires and New Year's Evil is leading the charge. More like a giallo than anything else, it seems to possess a profound misunderstanding of what audiences were expecting from a slasher movie and delivers some seriously silly murder setpieces. Technically the first ever quadruple-bill episode (if you also count the Richard Donner cut of Superman II, which we do), as voted for by Patrons of this podcast for, on the history and legacy of Episode Title ! The sequels to the previous episode on SupermanSUPERMAN II was inevitable after Richard Donner completed 75% of the movie, filmed at the same time as Superman (1978). His work on the sequel was halted during Superman's production, but as Superman flew into the box office and became a critical and financial success, the sequel was fired up again... and Donner himself was unceremoniously fired from the movie by the Salkinds, and replaced with Richard Lester; a move that didn't go down well with the cast and crew... SUPERMAN II: THE RICHARD DONNER CUT came about due to the open secret of Richard Donner's material existing in a vault somewhere. Reeve almost didn't return as the iconic character, but changed his mind and relished playing Superman vs Superman (which was also almost the title of the movie), but in retrospect it would be a movie he wouldn't have too much fun with, despite the slapstick tone... SUPERMAN IV: THE QUEST FOR PEACE would only be made after the Salkinds sold the rights to The Cannon Group; a production company known for making low quality movies en masse to make as much profit as possible. Cannon's plan though was big franchises: they bought Superman with the intent of spending $36 million on Superman IV. They were also making Masters of the Universe, the first big screen adventure for He-Man. But Masters of the Universe's financial woes would drastically affect Superman IV, with disastrous consequences for the Superman franchise, and leading to a 19-year wait for Superman to return...I would love to hear your thoughts on Superman II, Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut, Superman III & Superman IV: The Quest for Peace !CONTACT.... I'm in a great mood tonight so I'm releasing three of the Cannon Group's films! First is the classic Enter the Ninja which we had so much fun going through that it really shouldn't be allowed. Second is the follow up (although not a sequel), Revenge of the Ninja, which scared the shit out of both Chad and me in the 80's. Still a tremendously good time to watch AND you get Keith Vitali! Bonus! Last for this week is the classic of all classics, American Ninja with Michael Dudikoff and the great Steve James! So buckle in and go for a Cannon ride with us this week! It might just give you an insight into what movie we're recording next!Hey, if you're listening anyway, please subscribe wherever you're getting your podcasts and tell some people who also might enjoy foul-mouthed, ass-kicking movie talk throughs! We'd be in your debt...and you know what THAT means in martial arts movies.More episodes coming next week and new episodes being released as soon as we get a few more recorded!Support this show http://supporter.acast.com/you-have-offended-this-podcast-1. Our first Cannon Group movie!! And it's the sequel to Godfrey Reggio's 1983 art house documentary that cuts artfully shot footage to the pace of a rhythmic Philip Glass score. But Chuck Norris or Charles Bronson are still going to show up at some point, right? Right?!? Join the Random Acts of Cinema Discord server here! *Come support the podcast and get yourself or someone you love a random gift at our merch store. T-shirts, hoodies, mugs, stickers, and more! If you'd like to watch ahead for next week's film, we will be discussing and reviewing Nicholas Rey's In a Lonely Place (1950).
Imagine a movie from A24 that won awards...only for the next 5 sequels to be made by Lionsgate. That happened to Death Wish. The Cannon Group told Charles Bronson fuck all that drama, people want sleeze! So he took that check and made another banger that far weaker than its predecessor. At least the deaths and overall BS is fun. Our boy Moe is back for another 80s classic and to make this show special.
Welcome back to another “super” exciting episode of Not A Bomb. This is the podcast where we go back and reexamine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this week's episode, the guys are once again joined by Jose from the Watch/Skip+ podcast to discuss 1987's superhero film - Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. What do you get when you combine the Man of Steel and The Cannon Group? You get a commercial and critical failure, and the end of Christopher Reeves as Superman. Made with a comparatively tiny budget, The Quest for Peace is best known for terrible special effects, a total lack of scientific knowledge, and slo-mo WWE wrestling in space. Does The Quest for Peace have enough charm to make it watchable? Why is Jon Cryer in this movie doing his impression of a “Valley Girl?” Did Brad just do a Rodney Dangerfield impression? All hail the Patron Saint of Not A Bomb - Dolph Lundgren! The most reviewed action star on the podcast!Welcome back to another exciting episode of Not A Bomb. This is the podcast where we go back and reexamine some of the biggest bombs in cinematic history and see if they deserve a second chance. On this week's episode, the guys are pleased to welcome back Zo from the Back Look Cinema Podcast to discuss 1987's superhero film - Masters of the Universe. Known as one of the films that bankrupted The Cannon Group, Masters of the Universe was meant to rejuvenate the franchise and increase toy sales. However, the poor critical reception and bad business decisions from Mattel did more damage than Skeletor riding on Panthor through Eternia. The film bombed and the kiddos stopped buying the action figures. Lots of great topics this episode including grown men collecting toys and the best Cannon films of the 80's. Also, why is Frank Langella in Masters of the Universe delivering a Shakespeare quality performance?Timestamps: Intro - (2:35), Box Office Results and Critical Response - (23:50), People Involved - (26:09), Production and Development - (38:25), Commerical Break - (61:06), Masters of the Universe Discussion - (63:38), Is it a Bomb? - (109:48), RoboReviewer1000 - (114:03), Listener Feedback - (118:19), and Outro - (129:10)Masters of the Universe is directed by Gary Goddard and stars Dolph Lundgren, Frank Langella, Courtney Cox, James Tolkan, Christina Pickles, Meg Foster, and Robert Duncan McNeill. We again return to the Albert Pyun-iverse for a Cannon Group take on Romancing The Stone starring Charles Rocket and Carey Lowell! Will it have the same subtle, goofball charms as Brain Smasher...or are we in for some more Cyborg manhole-ing?
After Superman III and the following film Supergirl (which we'll get to in a couple months) failed to make much of a dent in the box office, as well as meet fan expectations, the Salkinds finally took the hint and sold the Superman property off. And who they sold it to is one of the most infamous stories in filmmaking history. Anyone who has seen the documentary Electric Bugaloo knows who and what the Cannon Group represented in the late 70s and early 80s. With schlock like the Death Wish sequels and Chuck Norris actioners in their resume, they were far from a respected film production company. Yet, with the purchase of the He-Man and Superman properties, they were intent on changing that perspective. Maybe we'll talk about what happened with Masters of the Universe another day. But for now, we talk about Superman IV: The Quest For Peace. Listen in as the boys dissect all of their thoughts on the movie going into this viewing, and then talk about what has been called one of the worst films of all time. The Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast has treaded waters like this before in the DC Universe. See our Catwoman and Batman and Robin reviews. Will this one be just as unpredictable? Only one way to find out! And be sure to stay until the end, as the guys reveal what their next retrospective will be. Hint: it's continuing a previous one.
On this week's show, we're trying something new. This will be a live review. “A live review? What is that?”, you ask? Well, for the first time ever, we watch a movie together, while recording the ridiculous thoughts that meander into our minds. So, this will not be a traditional review, and it will only make sense if you watch the movie right alongside us. And what movie could possibly warrant such a momentous occasion? For that, we turn to one of the Cannon Group's biggest cult classics, and one which launched the career of one of the biggest action stars alive today, 1988's Bloodsport starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. If you don't already own this classic, it's currently available to stream on HBO Max. Apologies to those whom are unable to join us, we'll be back very soon with a regular show. Podcast Sync: MGM Logo Fades To Black - :14 seconds (movie, elapsed playtime) Live Review Starts - 1:19 (podcast, elapsed playtime) Be sure to subscribe. Enjoy!
Hercule Poirot sticks his nose into the show and tells us our business, uninvited! Well told him all the problems with his "detecting". So this is clearly Cannon Group's best produced movie. The production design is good. The costumes are fine. The locations are expensive and fitting. The casting is good. And that's where the compliments stop. The plot is far from diabolical. In fact, it's blatantly obvious and with and incredibly stupid motive. Then there's the backstory to the motive which is even more stupid. So because the villain of the film is so painfully obvious (mostly just due to a major actor in the role, hint, hint. Its not like Kevin Spacy just suddenly appears out of nowhere with no mention in the credits) 50% of the movie is just the cast tutting around waiting for the plot to start and then the next 40% is Hercule Poirot tutting around and wasting everyone's time. Its not that its tedious because most of it is stupid but it is completely unnecessary and defeating when the reveal finally happens. You're left saying "why did I have to sit through all that build up for that?" It's not that its really that bad, but unless you love ALL whodunits or you're an Agatha Christie completionist (I guess that's redundant), you can skip this one.
If you're a fan of eighties action movies, you should know The Cannon Group. Run by Israeli cousins Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus, in the eighties they cranked out a slew of low-budget action movies, most of which were hated by critics. Yet, every once in awhile they made a legitimately great movie that would even make the critics sit up and take notice. One such as this 80's flick directed by Andrei Konchalovsky (who later made "Tango & Cash") and based on a script by Akira Kurosawa who was a legendary filmmaker in his own right. So get yourself all greased up, jump onboard and then hold on tight as Tim Williams and guest co-host JB Huffman from "Manly Movies" Podcast discuss “Runaway Train” from 1985 on this episode of the 80's Flick Flashback Podcast! Here are some additional behind the scenes trivia we were unable to cover in this episode: The film is dedicated to the memory of Richard Holley. Helicopter pilot Rick Holley was killed in a helicopter crash during filming. According to the Alaska Rails website, "his helicopter hit a power line in the canyon north of Tunnel Section". This occurred on March 9, 1985 and was listed as "helicopter accident en route to Alaska filming location”.
