Josh provided the voice acting for the characters Onslaught and Wreck-Gar, and the entire project, while unfinished, is amazing. You can find it in the link below. We're coming to get you, Junkions! Actually, we're coming to give you a super-sized feast as Brian and Cargill feast on all six of George A. Romero's Dead films. From Night of to Survival of, their corpses will not rest until the entire franchise is covered. The guys discuss the various chronologies, the messages of each installment, how The Walking Dead only exists because of Romero, and why Robin Sparkles probably got devoured by ghouls. They also chat about the horrors of copyright loopholes and postulate that those guys at Pace were a little overzealous about their salsa.Feel free to gorge on this mega episode (just don't CHOKE ON IT!!!) and spread the infection as far as you can! Mellow greetings, Junkions and maniacs! This week, Brian and Cargill defrost 1993's Demolition Man. One of the stellar examples of the strange action hero meta film trend, Demolition Man pits Sylvester Stallone against Dennis Rodman's Joker. Is the nightmare future that Marion Cobretti sees when he sleeps? Will Joel Silver make an appearance in this episode (spoiler: yes)? Why is Sting following us around this month?!Download, listen, and share this episode to bring others joy joy feelings. As the chat progresses, we get three sea shells to the wind and commit several violations of the Verbal Morality Statute.
Hold on to your noses, Junkions! Brian and Cargill put their respective appendages to the grindstone and pull the romance film hat trick as they discuss 1987's Roxanne from behind the bushes. The great Steve Martin breaks his own mold as he dabbles in adapting classic French theater and bringing us his own brilliant take on Cyrano de Bergerac! The movie is witty, packed with fantastic character actors, and a great lesson on owning who you are.In addition to pitching woo at Roxanne, the guys also discuss Brian's inability to say certain words, obscure Indiana restaurants, and why the remake should star...Eminem?Like the show? Autobots and Junkions attempt to work together. We see Pyra Magna sowing seeds of dissent against Optimus. Pacing is a little off, as there isn’t really a linear structure. The flashbacks to Jetfire’s past feel the most structured, even though they break up the present day plot. Barber’s character building shines through here, as we see continued development of character arcs that he’s been plotting for years, such as the relationship between prime and Pyra Magna, but also character development that harkens back to plotlines from other writers. On the whole a solid character driven issue that unfortunately lacks the narrative drive to create an engaging comic. The Transformers: SalvationWritten by John Barber with art by Livio Ramondelli. From the outset looks like it’s going to be a big dumb fight between the dinobots and trypticon. Ends up being a perfectly structured, character driven home run of an issue that takes the story in very unexpected directions. Every character, even trypticon is made engaging. Slug’s death at the hands of Sandstorm acting under Starscream’s orders is a gut punch of the highest order. Not something you see coming, and when it happens, it takes a moment to sink in. The last page reveal of starscream about to insert a mutated sweep spark into slug’s corpse with the guidance of bludgeon leaves you with a feeling of dread and just a teensy bit of hope. On the whole, a perfect conclusion to Barber and Ramondelli’s “Dinobot trilogy.” 00:51:29 THE MAIN DISCUSSIONTransformers The Last Knight is under a week away. This Nickscast are covering an unfortunately named fandom: TransFans (Transformers fans). What is it about a franchise so tied to toys and the 80s that helps its fandom to grow and thrive today? What is its key demographic? Why did Orson Welles get involved in the Tranformers movie? And where is all the Transformers fanfic? This week, we're going to transform and roll out (to find out)! Next week, we'll be working our way through the mysterious pines to a place thats all sunshine and roses on the outside, but suspicious and enigmatic on the inside; we'll be talking about Twin Peaks fans. ## Episode outline ### [Last episode's](http://fanthropological.com/e/27-sherlockians/) Famous Last Words **Z:** Why did Orson Welles agree to be in this movie? > The Transformers: The Movie was the final film to which Orson Welles contributed. Welles was in declining health during production. Shortly before he died, he told his biographer, Barbara Leaming, "You know what I did this morning? I played the voice of a toy." He elaborated, "I play a planet. I menace somebody called Something-or-other. Then I'm destroyed. My plan to destroy Whoever-it-is is thwarted and I tear myself apart on the screen." According to director Nelson Shin, Welles had been pleased to accept the role after reading the script and had expressed an admiration for animated films > > — [Wikipedia - The Transformers: The Movie](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Transformers:_The_Movie) > **Z**: ... I found a reddit AMA ... > **G**: Orson Welles did an AMA?! > **T**: From BEYOND THE GRAVE > It is his enduring legacy, and I guess Citizen Kane or something > > — G **G:** Why was Weird Al's *Dare to be stupid* included in the movie? Who thought that was a good idea? > It was used as the music for the "Junkions attack" and "Junkions become friends" scenes in the movie; the song's rampant pop-culture referencing certainly fits with the pop-culture-talking Junkions. > Reportedly, it was included in the movie soundtrack because Scotti Bros. Records decided to promote acts on their label heavily, and Al (always popular with the kids) was one of the biggest. As Al himself tells it, he just got a phone call one day and said "Okay", and that was basically the last he heard about it, save the royalty checks. > > — [TransformersWiki - Dare to be Stupid](http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Dare_to_Be_Stupid) **T:** Who is the primary demographic supposed to be? Still going, can only assume it's 30-somethings. > ... Michael Bay takes a weird, reverse approach with the ‘Transformers' films: the primary target audience for these films is adults, but Bay is talking down to them as if they were children, and the humor and subject matter is exceedingly regressive. > > — [Screencrush - Trying to Understand the 'Transformers' Franchise: What Is the Meaning of All This?](http://screencrush.com/transformers-franchise-meaning/?trackback=tsmclip) > I will stand by my words though! I'm still not sure who the important audience is. > > — T ### Fandom Facts **Origins:** > Origins: this is actually a bit dizzying. There's a lot of different origins of Transformers. > > — T Varied. All franchises are focused on a race of transforming sentient beings with one faction, the Autobots—lead by Optimus Prime—in their struggle against the Decepticons—lead by Megatron. Hold on to your skulls, Junkions! Brian and Cargill continue through their March Madness series with David Cronenberg's Scanners. It may not be the granddaddy of psychic killer movies, but it's at least the daddy. And yet for as much as they love it, the guys come to the mind-blowing realization that Scanners is a deeply flawed film remembered more for a meme than for its story. However, the performances (namely Ironside's), effects, and unique signpost along Cronenberg's evolution as a filmmaker safeguard Scanners' reputation as a cult classic.Like the show? We continue our chat from the last episode with designer Sally Ann. If Sally was in the Transformers universe she would be a Junkion. It’s a compliment! Stop thinking Michael Bay and think the very first animated movie. The Junkions are expert mechanics that can repair anything with spare parts and they love Earth broadcasting. Alright, nobody is getting this reference. Sally Ann designs clothing & accessories using ONLY recycled fabric. She sells her wares at markets and festivals with the help of her mobile boutique. You can also find her items for sale online at shopsallyann.com. Sally answers the tough questions, “Hey! How can I be successful on Etsy?” She says product photography, create your own traffic, streamline your product/price/labor and get a domain name to point to your store. Sally’s sister Rachael is also in the handmade goods game! Her store is Curiously Clever found on Storenvy. Want to sell your designs? Aside from etsy & Storenvy, you could also try bigcartel. Sally’s friend does vintage jewelry, Cribbledy Goodness. Sally’s beau is @MattPittmanFTU and he’s Matt about Jax (Jacksonville). Sally is all about sustainability. If the fabric is smaller than the palm of her hand, maybe, maybe it can be thrown out. Aside from Sally, where can you get sustainable apparel? Try Threads 4 Thought. Sally is trying to watch the Eleventh Doctor Who series while she works, but her favorite is Downton Abbey. She also suggests Boardwalk Empire. Her guilty pleasure is Vampire Diaries because she can concentrate on work and not have to pay attention to the show. Sally listens to All Songs Considered & Mark Maron when she is working as well. Our guest self identifies as a Lord of the Rings nerd. Chris & Sally critique True Blood. Quiz Time!! Sally & Paul try to answer question about a Shatner film called Kingdom of Spiders. Who will win? From tarantulas to bugs. Sally says the bugs are bigger in the South. Sally’s favorite Doctor is David Tennant. Chris recommends that Sally watch Firefly. Special thanks to you for listening and to @MattPittmanFTU for letting us chat with Sally Ann during their vacation. Support Montreal Sauce on Patreon
> > — T Varied.
