Trust is the antidote to so many common issues that can occur on the manufacturing floor. But how can you build trust—both in yourself and with your team? Find out in this episode of Mindfulness Manufacturing with guest Justin Patton! Justin is a certified speaker professional and leadership presence expert, who challenges leaders to reimagine how they lead, love, and communicate. He's also the author of Your Road to Yes: How to Build Trust in Yourself and With Others and the recently-released The High-Impact Manager: Your Blueprint for Bringing Out the Best in Your Team. In this episode, Justin talks about the vital role trust plays in improving your leadership, empowering your team, and showing up as your best self, and shares why transparency, tact, and togetherness are the three key foundations you need to improve how you show up and built trust in your relationships. 3:10 – Trust requires transparency, tact, and togetherness 4:03 – Trust is your biggest competitive advantage 4:41 – When people don't have all the information, they fill it in with fear or make up stories 5:59 – As a leader, you can create a culture of trust by having the courage to be transparent and vulnerable 8:39 – You have to speak your truth, but also take accountability for how you deliver it 10:41 – When an organization values results over everything else, it leads to issues like a lack of trust, increased disconnect, and poor leadership 12:22 – Think about who you are at your best, then work to show up for others as that best version of yourself 14:37 – To grow as a leader, you don't have to fundamentally change who you are, but can learn how to lean into your best qualities and align your actions and behavior with who you are at your best 16:21 – Trust is built in small moments 17:46 – Find the balance between oversharing and transparency 20:51 – Trust does not leave people second guessing 21:20 – Choose discomfort over resentment 22:53 – There are also situations where building trust can require staying silent 25:43 – Every choice you make either gets you closer to trust or drives you away from it Connect with Justin Patton Visit his website Learn more about his books Check out my book reports of Your Road to Yes and The High-Impact Manager Thanks for Listening! “I will never be one of those speakers or coaches who tells people that they need to change. I actually believe the opposite. I don't think people need to change–I think they walked out of the truth of who they really are.” -Justin Patton We live in an age of toxic self-improvement culture. Adding a daily 30-minute meditation, new skincare gadget, or bedtime supplement into our routine has become second nature. In today's episode, Erin and guest Justin Patton discuss what it means to come back home to yourself despite everything we're told we need to improve. As the Founder & CEO of The Trust Architect Group, Justin helps remarkable people discover what's holding them back, how to build more trust in themselves and with others, and how to use their presence to impact people, results, and culture. Spoiler alert: today you are one of those remarkable people. ICYMI – Your Post-Episode Homework: Consider the four steps to repairing trust. You take ownership, you renegotiate the relationship, you ask for or extend forgiveness, and then you demonstrate a change in your behavior. Think about a relationship in your life that needs repairing and ask yourself how you can apply Justin's methodology to that relationship. More about Justin Patton: 1. He's a former high school teacher with a master's degree in education. He knows how to design leadership programs that stick. 2. He believes if you ever want to be a great leader of others, you must first be a great leader of yourself. He's written three award-winning books that focus on helping leaders do that work. 3. He's been lucky enough to work with some awesome brands like Taco Bell, GE Appliances, NCAA, US Chamber of Commerce, Anthem, Humana, Giant, The Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf, and many more! 4. He's led the largest leadership development program in Taco Bell's franchise history and worked with over 10,000 Restaurant General Managers. Show Links: · Did today's episode resonate with you? Executive Coach and leadership presence expert, Justin Patton, slides into the diner booth with me this week! We reminisce about eating late-night pizza and our topping preferences. Then I learned that Justin grew up on a farm in Kentucky shoveling manure and bailing hay. Though that was not his destiny it is where he learned a work ethic that he carries with him today. Justin told me about he unexpectedly lost his Dad at 18 years old and how he did not deal with the trauma for 12 years. We then talked about his time as a high school English teacher and his transition to the corporate world. I loved our rant about how we both hate the phrase, “fake it till you make it.” Justin then told me about how he coaches executives on their definition of success. We ended talking about leadership presence, how to build trust, and what authenticity means on a daily basis. About the Guest: Justin Patton is an executive coach, leadership presence expert, and award-winning author who challenges individuals to use their presence to communicate with stronger trust – both in the workplace and with the people they love the most. Justin is a former high school English teacher, world champion with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps, and he studied body language from a former FBI agent. His programs will inspire you to reimagine who you are at your best and what is possible in your life. Here's a somewhat stuffy bio of me: I am an author, professional speaker, coach, host, and entrepreneur. My first book, Leading Imperfectly: The value of being authentic for leaders, professionals, and human beings, is available wherever people buy books. I speak internationally to willing and unwilling attendees about authenticity, vulnerability, and leadership. My clients include American Express, General Electric (GE), Accenture, Yale University, The Ohio State University, and many others. As a speaker, I am doing the two things I loves the most: making people think and making people laugh! I host my own events multiple times a year. They are 2-day events called Living Imperfectly Live (and sometimes they are 1-day virtual events). They are a space where humans from every walk of life can come together to be part of a community on the pursuit of badassery. The goal is to help attendees start living the life we say we want to live. Alas, you're here because of an idea I had a number of years ago and didn't think I was good enough to pull it off. I finally acted on it and alas Diner Talks with James was born! As you can see from what I do in my professional life, Diner Talks is aligned with everything I believe in and teach. Today was quite interesting. Three very unlikely players got a triple double. Nope it was not Russell Westbrook, nor was it Draymond Green. James Harden had a triple double but we kinda expected that or at least we are not surprised by that. So who's the three? TJ McConnell, Dennis Smith Jr and Mason Plumlee! In DFS play, these three players had a value of just $65 combined! McConnell's triple double was quite impressive as he had 10 swipes! Smith Jr. has been playing relatively well for Detroit and Plumlee probably learned a thing or two from Nikola Jokic when he was in Denver. Congratulations if you guys had this low key players in your line-ups today. A lot of managers have been asking us about Andre Drummond. So what do you do with Drummond? Or maybe a better question is what are you willing to give up for Drummond if you are going for him. We throw out some suggestions out there for you to consider. Also, Houston could be the next goldmine of fantasy-relevant players as the team seems to be going nowhere. This could mean a lot of playing time for the young guys like Jaesean Tate, Justin Patton and maybe Kevin Porter Jr., who has been averaging 24 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists with 1.5 steals in the G-League. Unfortunately we couldn't squeeze in a trade analysis today, but we'll make sure we do one tomorrow.
