Maffetone suggests using heart rate monitoring (calculated as 180 minus your age) to ensure workouts remain in the aerobic zone, allowing athletes to boost efficiency while avoiding overtraining or burnout. What is the proper—or most effective—response to a barrage of horror and pain? The closest that screenwriter Paul Schrader ever came to a comedy (albeit a very dark one), Bringing Out the Dead (1999) is low on special effects depicting medical emergencies but high on drama. Join us for a conversation about one of Scorsese's sleepers, a movie about a man who wants to find something like religious faith in a world with no spiritual oasis. It also dramatizes the incredible cost paid a moment of peace. The film is based on Joe Connolly's 1988 novel, which was a minor sensation when published. Trust is the antidote to so many common issues that can occur on the manufacturing floor. But how can you build trust—both in yourself and with your team? Find out in this episode of Mindfulness Manufacturing with guest Justin Patton! Justin is a certified speaker professional and leadership presence expert, who challenges leaders to reimagine how they lead, love, and communicate. He's also the author of Your Road to Yes: How to Build Trust in Yourself and With Others and the recently-released The High-Impact Manager: Your Blueprint for Bringing Out the Best in Your Team. In this episode, Justin talks about the vital role trust plays in improving your leadership, empowering your team, and showing up as your best self, and shares why transparency, tact, and togetherness are the three key foundations you need to improve how you show up and built trust in your relationships. 3:10 – Trust requires transparency, tact, and togetherness 4:03 – Trust is your biggest competitive advantage 4:41 – When people don't have all the information, they fill it in with fear or make up stories 5:59 – As a leader, you can create a culture of trust by having the courage to be transparent and vulnerable 8:39 – You have to speak your truth, but also take accountability for how you deliver it 10:41 – When an organization values results over everything else, it leads to issues like a lack of trust, increased disconnect, and poor leadership 12:22 – Think about who you are at your best, then work to show up for others as that best version of yourself 14:37 – To grow as a leader, you don't have to fundamentally change who you are, but can learn how to lean into your best qualities and align your actions and behavior with who you are at your best 16:21 – Trust is built in small moments 17:46 – Find the balance between oversharing and transparency 20:51 – Trust does not leave people second guessing 21:20 – Choose discomfort over resentment 22:53 – There are also situations where building trust can require staying silent 25:43 – Every choice you make either gets you closer to trust or drives you away from it Connect with Justin Patton Visit his website Learn more about his books Check out my book reports of Your Road to Yes and The High-Impact Manager Thanks for Listening! Welcome to The B-Side, from The Film Stage. Here we talk about movie directors! Not the movies that made them famous or kept them famous, but the ones that they made in between. Today we talk about one of the great ones: Martin Scorsese. Who's better than Marty? Dan, Conor, and guest Jake Kring-Schreifels. Our B-Sides today include Italianamerican, Kundun, Bringing Out the Dead, and Silence. We talk about a lot in this one. How to pronounce Scorsese! How to pronounce Coppola! Catholicism! Buddhism! Making films about religions in your life! This is an episode with lofty ambitions, not unlike most Scorsese pictures! In examining Italianamerican we muse on Marty as documentarian, including the mention of an incredibly-underrated Scorsese documentary that's hard to find: Public Speaking starring Fran Lebowitz. We reflect on the guardedness of memory by older generations (and how that may reveal itself in this new, Covid-stung generation). We also recount the Muddy Waters - László Kovács story from the set of The Last Waltz, We parse Marty's constant wrestle with faith in Bringing Out the Dead, and how its gentler, compassionate qualities weave into Kundun and Silence, all of which feature some of the best collaborations in his career. Additional writing from Jake includes his superb oral history of The Wolf of Wall Street (also linking to Fran Hoepfner's great piece on the same movie on Bright Wall Dark Room), a recent great piece on stunts tied to the release of The Fall Guy, and a lovely interview with the director of Saved! In celebration of its twenty-year anniversary. Be sure to give us a follow on Twitter and Facebook at @TFSBSide. The Unconventional Path: Entrepreneurship and Innovation Stories and Ideas With Bela and Mike

In this podcast episode, Bela Musits interviews Joe Connelly, a former New York City paramedic who wrote the book "Bringing Out the Dead." The book was later adapted into a movie starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Martin Scorsese. Joe has since moved to a small town in upstate New York and became president of the local rescue squad. The conversation focuses on Joe's experience transforming a 100% volunteer Not For Profit (NFP) organization into one with full-time paid paramedics, serving two communities. We discuss the challenges of organizational transformation and working in a volunteer NFP where everyone in the community knows each other. The episode is a great example of entrepreneurship and can be inspiring to many. Be sure to give it a listen to learn more about Joe's journey and the transformation of the rescue squad. The "Dirty Sons of Pitches" are close to finishing the 1990s examination of film, leading to the final year, one that stands as one of the greatest in movie history. The guys have taken on even more this week, starting with the failed pilot from a lot of comedy heavies, "Heat Vision & Jack," the dark side of "Babe" with the TV movie adaptation of "Animal Farm," and then Martin Scorsese's "Brining Out the Dead" with Nicolas Cage.  Available on Apple and Spotify Episode 404 includes: -Trailer reactions: "The Crow," "Good Times," "Wicked," and response to the "Quiet on the Set" doc series.  -Nate says "The Beekeeper" is an enjoyably bonkers Jason Statham action movie.  -Ben says "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire" is a fun if lesser adventure for the larger fandom.  -By the Decade -- 1999 -- "Heat Vision & Jack" / "Animal Farm" / "Brining Out the Dead" -The guys discuss the much-heralded failed TV pilot co-written by Dan Harmon, directed by Ben Stiller, and starring Jack Black and Owen Wilson as the voice of a sentient motorcycle, then the TV adaptation of George Orwell's classic allegoray "Animal Farm" about the Russian Revolution, and finally Martin Scorsese's overlooked fever dream of Nicolas Cage struggling with life as an EMT in "Bringing Out the Dead."

Editor - Thelma Schoonmaker, ACE KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON editor Thelma Schoonmaker ACE has literally had a front row seat to some of the most celebrated films of the past four decades, working as director Martin Scorsese's editor and filmmaking partner.  The pair reunite once again for KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert DeNiro, two mainstays of Scorsese's acting troupe, as well as Lily Gladstone, who delivers a breakout performance as Mollie Kyle. KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON was directed by Martin Scorsese from a screenplay he co-wrote with Eric Roth, based on the 2017 non-fiction book of the same name by David Grann.  Set in 1920's Oklahoma, it focuses on a series of murders of Osage members and relations in the Osage Nation after oil was being produced on tribal land. Tribal members had retained mineral rights on their reservation, and whites sought to gain their wealth. THELMA SCHOONMAKER ACE Thelma Schoonmaker is a three-time Academy Award winner, having worked for more than 40 years alongside filmmaker Martin Scorsese. Schoonmaker has been honored with Oscars, most recently in 2007 for her work on Scorsese's “The Departed,” and in 2004 for his film “The Aviator.” In 1981, she won both the Academy Award and BAFTA Award for editing Scorsese's “Raging Bull.” Subsequently, she worked on all of Scorsese's features: “The King of Comedy,” “After Hours,” “The Color of Money,” “The Last Temptation of Christ,” the “Life Lessons” segment from “New York Stories,” “Goodfellas” (which earned her another BAFTA Award, as well as an Oscar nomination), “Cape Fear,” “The Age of Innocence,” “Casino,” “Kundun,” “Bringing Out the Dead,” “Gangs of New York” (for which she received the ACE Eddie Award and was nominated for an Academy Award), “Shutter Island,” “Hugo” (for which she received another Oscar nomination), “The Wolf of Wall Street,” and “Silence.” In addition to her film editing, Schoonmaker works tirelessly to promote the films and writings of her late husband, the director Michael Powell, among them “The Red Shoes,” “Black Narcissus,” “The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp,” “I Know Where I'm Going,” “A Matter of Life and Death,” “Tales of Hoffmann,” and “Peeping Tom.” Editing Killers of the Flower Moon In our discussion with KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON editor Thelma Schoonmaker ACE, we talk about: Leaning into the love story When to cut to DiCaprio or DeNiro Scorsese's shooting style The structural perfection of Goodfellas Twelve cuts to completion The Credits Visit ExtremeMusic for all your production audio needs Learn all about what's new with Avid Media Composer Subscribe to The Rough Cut podcast and never miss an episode Visit The Rough Cut on YouTube

Hello, and welcome to another episode of our podcast, where we explore topics that matter and make a difference in people's lives. Today, I am thrilled to have a very special guest with me, someone who has dedicated her life to nurturing childhood through gardening. Meet Patrice Porter, lovingly referred to as the Gardening Grandma. Patrice is not only a mother and grandmother but also an avid gardener and a Certified Educational Associate. She recently retired after 15 years of working with young children in the "Play and Exploration" program, something she absolutely loved. However, her passion for gardening and working with kids didn't stop there. Patrice continues to work with children through her "Got Dirt? Gardening For Kids" program and the Fabulous Family Futures program. With a wealth of knowledge gathered through many years of researching and training with master gardeners, Patrice has become a sought-after gardening consultant who loves opening the world of gardening to folks, especially to kids. She believes that gardening can teach children valuable life lessons and skills, such as patience, responsibility, and respect for nature. Patrice loves the medium of books for sharing knowledge and expertise and is the author of the book series "Bringing Out the Potential of Children" and co-author of the #1 Best Seller book "No-Problem Parenting; Raising Your Kiddos with More Confidence and Less Fear." Her experience and expertise are truly inspiring, and I can't wait to hear more about her journey and the importance of nurturing childhood through gardening. Join us in this episode as we dive deep into the world of gardening, the benefits it offers to children, and how you can get your kids involved. Whether you're a parent, grandparent, or just someone who loves to learn, this is an episode you don't want to miss. So, grab a cup of coffee, sit back, and enjoy! We also chat about EMDR (eye movement desensitization and  reprocessing) as Carrie is trained in EMDR. It should be noted that her book is not for EMDR therapy and that needs to be completed with a therapist trained in EMDR.  For more information visit www.emdria.org *Please note that the information shared in this podcast is for informational and educational purposes only.

Celebrating a Genius - Martin Scorsese's 80th Birthday This week a bonus episode of WatchThis W/RickRamos drops as I go solo to celebrate - in my opinion - The Greatest Living Director (and easily one of the greatest filmmakers in the history of the medium) - Mr. Martin Scorsese. Since my partner is not joining me for this episode, I am choosing to look at Mr. Scorsese more from a fan's vantage than from a critic's. Martin Scorsese has made some of the greatest films in the medium - Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, Goodfellas, Casino, Bringing Out the Dead, The Departed, Gangs of New York, and Hugo.  I don't want to go into detail here . . . you're going to have to just sit down and listen to the episode. It's a good one.  Questions, Comments, Complaints, & Suggestions can be directed to gondoramos@yahoo.com. Many Thanks.
