It's (not) a new podcast! Therefore, a great big welcome back to our dearest friend of the podcast, Lo the Lynx, who is also joined by our newest friend, Virginie! Be sure to check out their podcast, Ragman's Harbour. (Get it? Silent Sisters? Ragman's Harbour? We think we're funny.) In this episode, we take a look at Rhaenyra and Alicent's last-ditch effort to broker a peace deal through the lens of gender studies. Is the show being a little too simplistic and gender essentialist when it comes to who wants war and who wants peace? Our guests break it down for us. Then we deep dive into a very haunted Daemon's weirwood dream, where dreams, magic, and reality seem to blur together. And what's eating Daemon and Ser Criston Cole? Could it be actual guilt for respectively earning their lady love's displeasure? Things aren't going so well in the Green's camp, with Aegon ascending his drinking buddies to the King's Guard, Larys Strong ingratiating himself to the king, and Aemond losing his one safe space to be vulnerable. Finally, we turn our attention to Baela, Helaena, and Rhaena. One experiences the thrill of helping the war effort on dragonback, the other processes the death of her child, and the last is entrusted with safeguarding the youngest of Rhaenyra's children. The Cast Beyond the Wall: A House of the Dragon Podcast

House of the Dragon season 2 begins on a somber note as Rhaenyra and her family(AKA The Blacks) mourn the loss of Lucerys after his death at the end of season 1. Meanwhile, Alicent and the Hightower family(The Greens) continue their plan to install Aegon as king and begin preparing for war. With each family hatching their plans while forces like Larys Strong and the white worm work in the shadows, the impending violence is imminent. Daemon's scheme to bring retribution for the blacks using the assassins "Blood" and "Cheese" is certain to have ripple effects throughout the season. Does the House of the Dragon season 2 premiere effectively set the stage? Tune in to hear our review, recap, and thoughts on these topics: Rhaenyra's reaction to Lucerys's death. Returning to Winterfell and the Wall for the first time since Game of Thrones ended in 2019. The tension between King Aegon and Otto Hightower. Varys Strong's schemes. Ethics with Ser Criston Cole. The tale of the treacherous "Blood" and "Cheese" AKA dumb assassins. This week's winner, loser, and wild card player. What we expect to see next. According to IMDB, "A Son for a Son" is described as: "As Alicent grows concerned by Aegon's Small Council, Rhaenyra arrives at a fateful decision." Tread Perilously's month of prestige fantasy makes haste for Westeros and the House of the Dragon episode called "The Princess and the Queen." After giving birth to her third child, Princess Rhaenyra faces rumors and accusations about its father. The source of those whispers? Queen Alicent. The situation leads to tension between Rhaenyera and her husband, Prince Laenor, and a situation in the yard while their boys train with Alicent's sons. Meanwhile in Pentos, Daemon and Laena consider an intriguing opportunity from the local aristocrats -- but will Laena's own pregnancy put the kibosh on whatever Daemon truly wants? Also, why is Larys Strong so interested in aiding Alicent? Erik and Justin immediately resume their Ice and Fire nerdery, starting with a look into Game of Thrones's endgame and the other spinoff. Justin champions King Viserys's long, lingering death. Erik once again offers his support to fanfic writers. He also briefly forgets the name of his "favorite" Ice and Fire character. Justin tries to piece together the political situation in King's Landing based on a single episode of House of the Dragon. The architectural design of Harrenhal comes into question. Erik dives into the dynamic between Alicent and Larys Strong and some Star Wars talk happens.

After King Viserys' death, the Small Council plots to install Prince Aegon on the Iron Throne. Ser Criston Cole kills Lord Beesbury when he objects to Princess Rhaenyra being usurped, while Lord Commander Harrold Westerling resigns in protest. Ser Otto delays announcing the king's death to fortify their position, and demands fealty from nobles. Queen Alicent tries to gain support from a captive Princess Rhaenys, but to no avail. When Aegon disappears from the Red Keep, Otto has Kingsguards Ser Erryk and Ser Arryk search the city, while Alicent sends Criston and Prince Aemond. Mysaria, the White Worm, informs Otto that Aegon is hiding in the city's sept, but Criston and Aemond apprehend him after a brief fight. Larys Strong warns Alicent of Mysaria's spies, so she has her house burnt down. Aegon insists he is unfit to rule, but Alicent convinces him otherwise. Meanwhile, Ser Erryk smuggles Rhaenys out of the castle. Otto has hundreds of smallfolk herded into the Dragonpit's main hall, where he announces Viserys' death and crowns Aegon as king. Amid the commotion, Rhaenys reaches her dragon Meleys. As promised, we are back with a second helping of everyone's favorite fandom commentator, essayist, and dad expert, Patrick Sponaugle! Episode 6 was just so HUGE (Ryan Condal called it a second pilot) we had to break the discussion into 2 parts. This time we're back to finish off by focusing on the parents. The Dad Duo of Laenor and Harwin scored major points with the three of us. We talk about Laena and Daemon's marriage, what her fate says about their relationship and Daemon's parenting style. Alicent, feeling alone and at a disadvantage, resorts to some low blows against Rhaenyra and Laenor. As appalling as that was, it was also exciting to see two powerful women debating policy and "peace" in the highest halls of power in Westeros. A detail noticed in this episode led to much speculation on its possible ripple effects for the main cast: the promotion of Orwyle to Grand Maester. We revisit an earlier discussion of a House Strong theory that was shared by Micah of Clark in podcast episode 7, and Larys Strong's shocking reveal left us terrified for Alicent -- and scrubbing our minds with bleach! For a much needed palate cleanser, we had to do some gushing over our newest ship, the S.S. Rhaewin! (which has nothing to do with Sansan at all). In this The Cast Beyond the Wall podcast discussion, returning guest Lanie James joins hosts Caleb Masters and Daniel Stull to cover the sixth chapter of House of the Dragon, "The Princess and the Queen."  The story jumps forward by ten years, the most of any episode of the series yet, and introduces us to an older Rhaenyra Targaryen (now played by Emma D'Arcy) and Alicent Hightower (now played by Olivia Cooke) who have seemingly reversed their power statuses despite Rhaenyra remaining the heir to the throne. With the next generation of Targaryen and Velaryon children now being caught in the middle of the family feud as King Viserys slowly wilts away, it's only a matter of time before war breaks out. Meanwhile, as each of Westeros's most powerful women seeks to either make good with or unseat the other, "The Princess and the Queen," reveals one of the kingdom's major shadow players, Larys Strong, to the game. Does the latest time jump derail the previous episodes' momentum or does it give the story a fresh reboot bringing us closer to a satisfying conclusion? Today's podcast topics include: Our overall reviews of "The Princess and the Queen" The consequences of the ten-year time jump on the story we've seen so far What Larys Strong's big play might mean for Alicent Ser Criston's 180-degree pivot toward hatred of Rhaenyra This week's winner, loser, and wildcard player According to the IMDB synopsis, “The Princess and the Queen” is described as:  "Ten years later. In this episode Ender is flying solo and bring you his breakdown and analysis of episode 6 of House of the Dragon The Princess and the Queen. Episode Summary: Ten years later, the Triarchy has reclaimed the Stepstones. Rhaenyra gives birth to her third child whom Ser Laenor names Joffrey. Queen Alicent notes the infant's hair, like his brothers Jacaerys and Lucerys, is brown rather than Targaryen silver. She presses King Viserys to acknowledge them as bastards with no claim to the throne, though he rebuffs this. Ser Criston, now loyal to Alicent, trains the princes in swordsmanship. Alicent scolds Aegon for pranking his younger brother Aemond, then says he must prepare himself to fight Rhaenyra for the throne. Prince Daemon and Lady Laena visit Essos with their daughters Baela and Rhaena, where the Prince of Pentos offers them a lordship in exchange for an alliance against the Triarchy. When pregnant Laena is unable to give birth, she commands her dragon Vhagar to burn her to death. To make peace, Rhaenyra proposes a marriage between her son Jacaerys and Princess Helaena, Alicent's daughter. Ser Lyonel Strong offers his resignation as Hand of the King over rumors that his son, Ser Harwin, fathered Rhaenyra's children. King Viserys refuses, but allows him to briefly travel to Harrenhal with Harwin, who will remain there. Ser Harwin's emotional farewell to Rhaenyra and her children implies he is their father. Alicent tells Larys Strong she wishes her father was still the king's Hand. At Harrenhal, Ser Lyonel and Harwin are killed in a fire orchestrated by Larys.

Hoppsan! Last podcast episode, the topic of disability portrayals was broached with Larys Strong and Craghas Drahar. So buckle up for this episode, dear listeners, and join us for a deep dive into how disability and caregiving are portrayed in media using HotD and ASOIAF characters with ethical and not-so-ethical examples. In her podcast debut, we proudly welcome The Immaculate Bastard, who brings her academic expertise in queerness and disability to present a nuanced critique of how HotD has handled this issue so far -- mainly in regards to King Viserys. She really broke down the whole "disability as metaphor" thing for us in a facinating educational odyssey! Eventually we move on to discuss the dual experiences of Alicent and Rhaenyra throughout the episode with gender, sex, and power dynamics. One exercises sexual agency but has birthcontrol forced upon her. The other's body belongs to the king and the realm, but secretly she exercises her own reproductive agency. And yes, an aside about the largest penis in the world made the final cut.

Wit and Wisdom of JoeMagician

After running our way through all the members of House Strong, including the fake ones, and sneaking in a discussion about Bloodraven I think we're ready to look at the most enigmatic figure of the Dance of the Dragons. The spymaster of spymasters, Larys Strong. The man who sauntered back into the throne room like a conquering hero and perhaps has the blood of his family and kings on his hands. What makes Larys the Clubfoot tick, and what should we expect to see from him in House of the Strongs I mean House of the Dragon?  Link to stream: https://youtu.be/7KqdhvxXFQ4 Dying of the Light free preview: https://www.patreon.com/posts/54241987
