In the shadows of "heroic CEO" narratives and hustle culture mythology, what truly drives lasting innovation in fintech? While we often celebrate the dramatic stories of founders sleeping in offices and pulling rabbits out of hats, the quiet architects of lasting change tell a different story. The most successful innovators share an unexpected trait: they embrace deliberate patience over heroic sprints. They take time to whiteboard their company's future when conventional wisdom screams for immediate action. They invest in careful hiring when investors demand rapid scaling. Perhaps, resilience isn't about unwavering conviction, but about remaining teachable and responsive to feedback. As we reimagine the future of financial services, perhaps it's time to celebrate not just the visionaries, but the quiet builders - those who understand that sustainable innovation requires both resilience and restraint, both passion and patience.Don't miss our latest One Vision — FinTech Fuse podcast episode with Leda Glyptis, and her new book, “Beyond Resilience”.

How do you cross the yawning chasm of lack of context in today's remote-first, distributed working environment? In This Episode Jennifer Sertl, Founder Agility3R, hosts a dynamic panel at SIBOS 2023 with the dream team of Dr. Leda Glyptis, #LedaWrites; Tom Zschach, CIO, SWIFT; and Brett King, certainly no introduction needed here!, sitting in the panelists seats for Innotribe's Future of Money. We're in the midst of a transition, money historically has been the universal medium of exchange, a unit that signifies worth. As we venture deeper into the 21st century, the notion has been broadened and reshaped with tech advances, decentralized finance and other digital assets changing the concept of money and challenging the essence of value exchange. This transition extends to how value is perceived, created and distributed. It's the last of its class ... next year it's the Future of Value!
Alex Habet shares some perspective around a replay of a timeless Leda Glyptis talk on digital transformation in advance of her session at the upcoming BankOnPurpose leadership conference.
Episode Description:In this episode, we delve into a conversation with Dr. Leda Glyptis, an accomplished fintech leader and former banker. With over two decades of experience driving transformation and technology across diverse financial sectors, Leda explores the inherent ties between banking, fintech, and the current technological surge. Discover how these domains can seamlessly integrate into the tech revolution by aligning with the established systems of traditional banks and corporations. Tune in to gain insights from this seasoned fintech veteran, as she guides us through the pivotal juncture where digital innovation and banking converge.Join us for a compelling discussion on the evolving landscape of finance in the digital age.3 Takeaways:The lagging adaptation of digital tech in banking and FintechDoing the right thing over doing the thing right and embracing failureLearning from a company's legacy and the technical debt Key Quotes: “You need to make sure that you fail fast and fix it, but you also need to make sure that you fail small and fix it.”“So increasingly who gets it for me, the people who start talking about their end customer, their data strategy, and their overall cost to serve ahead of showing me wireframes of their UX. They're the people who get it.”“Leave aside the business model and how certain players in that space make money. What happens to all the systems that need to know what happened in real time for liquidity management? For everything that happens downstream, and we've been talking about, um, real time clearing and settlement for years. We know it's coming.”“There is no such thing as an organization that doesn't have technical debt. There just isn't. There will be corners that are cut because Bobby has a date and has to ship and go out and freshen up to meet his date. There's corners that will be cut 'cause money's short, or there's a deadline looming, or because you didn't think of something. And there will always, always, always, either because you didn't think something was important or because something else was more important, or 'cause you had a blind spot. So there is no such thing as no legacy and there is no such thing as no technical debt.”Leda Glyptis: Leda is a seasoned fintech executive and former banker, with a career spanning two decades working int transformation and technology functions across a variety of financial services verticals.Leda works as an advisor to boards and executive teams for companies of all sizes, from young startups to globally significant financial institutions, supporting leadership teams in transition: be it a process of transforming themselves, their business or their software infrastructure. In This Episode The Metaverse Economy: How Finance Professionals Can Make Sense of Web3 is Arun Krishnakumar and Theo Lau's new book. Listen as Brett King connects with Theo Lau, frequent guest and Founder, Unconventional Ventures. The metaverse is evolving, the way the metaverse is now, is not close to where it will be. The book is designed to equip fintech professionals with an in-depth understanding of the emergent economic models in the Metaverse and across Web3, and also understand the risks associated with the Metaverse and help these professionals prepare for what lies ahead in this immersive environment. The concept of community in the metaverse is important, we don't want to leave people behind. Then Brett and Jason Henrichs shift the subject to talk about recent fires in Greece (sadly we can also add Maui to the list), the Impact of these fires and the EU response to climate change with author and influencer Dr. Leda Glyptis. July 2023 just scattered the record for the hottest month, per NASA, since 1880. There is no denying that climate change is here. Some of these extreme events are naturally occurring, others man-made, but the number and extent of these occurrences is increasing and there are concerns of irreversible desertification. Banks and regulators need to be front and center, and take more of a stance. In natural disasters the financial system sometimes breaks down -- financial inclusion and financial access are concerns. Major systemic banks in Europe are asking themselves the hard questions, not just taking superficial steps. The cost for these extreme weather events is growing exponentially, economics are in play. Covid made people realize there are no boundaries, it's everyone's problem. Climate change also doesn't stop at borders, a similar degree of focus and urgency is needed. Will Europe lead?

Today's episode is all about the future of banking as a service (BAAS). In our "Headlines" segment, we use Railsr's fall from grace to discuss how today's economic uncertainty has slowed down the progress of embedded finance and BaaS. In "Story by Numbers," we examine a cornerstone advisor's forecast of BaaS revenues in 2026 and how a 2022 study from Endava found that about half of fintechs are having scaling and platform issues with their BaaS providers. And in "Pretend CEO," we ask guest Leda Glyptis to pretend that she's teamed up with a giant private equity firm with unlimited capital resources and a vision of building or buying her way to win a material share of the $25 billion of BaaS revenues in 2026. In this episode, we look at a new segment of invisible solutions - core banking platforms. Core banking systems have evolved fast in the last 5 years along with improvements in cloud technologies. Often considered the most difficult part of the IT landscape to deal with in a bank, cloud-native platforms are now starting to deliver significant business benefits in terms of scalability, agility, the pace of innovation, and ease of integration. www.10xbanking.com This conversation with Leda covers the following topics: 1.40: Intro + As the Chief Client Officer at 10X, what does your typical day look like? 5.50: In your long career in banking tech, you have seen the evolution of core banking platforms. What is changing now? What are the transformation strategies you see around? What works and what doesn't? 12.00: Cloud-native is clearly different from cloud-enabled. Can you explain why being cloud-native is important for a financial institution? 18.55: Digital transformation at traditional banks (brick-by-brick) Vs digital experience enablement challenger banks. How does a cloud-native core fit into these two very disparate situations? 25.01: The traditional core platforms, although on legacy tech are functionally rich (capabilities developed over the years). How do you compete with them? How do you address capability gaps and still enable a bank to be agile? 31.10: How can cloud-native core banking platforms enable banks to compete and co-operate with nimble fintechs? 36.05: What is the target segment for 10X? What differentiates 10X from the rest of the cloud-native core platforms?

Find out more on our website: https://bit.ly/3mJroTY "Turtles all the way down" is an expression of the problem of infinite regress. The saying alludes to the mythological idea of a World Turtle that supports the flat earth on its back. It suggests that this turtle rests on the back of an even larger turtle, which itself is part of a column of increasingly large world turtles that continues indefinitely (i.e., "turtles all the way down"). The exact origin of the phrase is uncertain. In the form "rocks all the way down", the saying appears as early as 1838. References to the saying's mythological antecedents, the World Turtle and its counterpart the World Elephant, were made by a number of authors in the 17th and 18th centuries." Read more... However, "tuttle" is not a typo. Archibald “Harry” Tuttle stars in the 1985 film, Brazil. You may remember the tagline of Brazil - “It's about flights of fantasy. And the nightmare of reality. Terrorist bombings. And late night shopping. True Love. And creative plumbing.” The hero, Sam Lowry, played by Jonathan Pryce, finds he has become an enemy of the state simply because he takes it into his own hands to correct an administrative error. In the film, Tuttle, played by Robert de Niro, is the rogue heating engineer out to solve people's real plumbing problems “without filling out a 27b/6... Bloody paperwork”. He explains his motivation, “Why? I came into this game for the action, the excitement. Go anywhere, travel light, get in, get out, wherever there's trouble, a man alone". Thus, Tuttle is a long-running conversation about interesting stuff with people who aren't afraid to think about or work on radical new plumbing, such as new user interfaces, smart ledgers, artificial intelligence, financial innovation, scientific discovery, disaster relief, music, film, art, and where everything meets up in the Great Café that is London. Z/Yen was proud to host the peripatetic Tuttle Club for a few months back in 2016 - Z/Yen & Long Finance Bid Farewell To The Rogue Plumbers - The Tuttle Club.
