If you're struggling to keep people engaged and loyal in your product or business, check out my FREE gamification course to learn how to do just that: professorgame.com/freecommunity-web What happens when a perfectly balanced gamification system fails with users? Alireza Ranjbar Shourabi shares this shocking experience and unpacks how cultural nuances, hidden perceptions, and behavioral insights can make or break your engagement strategy. Starting in high school, Alireza used computers as a means to create and play games, first diving into programming and then exploring 2D and 3D art. Eventually, he discovered his true passion in game design, which sparked a deep curiosity about human behavior. With this newfound interest, he went for psychology, sociology, behavioral economics, and persuasive design, continually learning about motivational theories like Self-Determination Theory (SDT), Flow, and the Fogg Behavior Model, as well as every aspect of behavioral economics available. Soon enough, he realized these principles and insights could be applied outside of games as well. This revelation led him to design engagement solutions and gamified campaigns across a variety of fields, including Fintech, E-learning, E-health, Open Innovation, and even offline advertising. With experience in designing for diverse platforms and genres, Alireza has contributed to nearly every area of gamification and game development, from systems design, AI, and UX to marketing and monetization. However, economy and balance—the 'hidden' yet crucial elements of experience design—have always been his primary focus and specialty. For him, design is about striking a balance between a fun, fair player experience and sustainable monetization for a successful business. Above all, he views players as complex individuals with limitless dimensions, constantly seeking to understand and interpret the behavioral data collected from in-game interactions—and beyond. Rob is a host and consultant at Professor Game as well as an expert, international speaker and advocate for the use of gamification and games-based solutions, especially in education and learning. He's also a professor and workshop facilitator for the topics of the podcast and LEGO SERIOUS PLAY (LSP) for top higher education institutions that include EFMD, IE Business School and EBS among others in Europe, America and Asia.   Guest Links and Info LinkedIn: Alireza Ranjbar Shourabi   Links to episode mentions: Proposed guests: Joris Dormans BJ Fogg Recommended books: Game Mechanics: Advanced Game Design by Joris Dormans Tiny Habits by BJ Fogg Favorite game: Journey   Lets's do stuff together! He's an expert on global innovation and the author of the Global Innovation Index, which is used by governments and institutions worldwide to shape innovation policy.  We're also joined by a friend of the pod, Hafidzi Razali who's the Founder and CEO of Strategic Counsel, who's an expert on policy-making in South-east Asia and beyond. Innovation is often seen as the driving force behind economic growth, but how can emerging markets build successful innovation ecosystems? We explore the key ingredients required to foster innovation at a national level. Soumitra Dutta has worked at the intersection of academia, business, and policy, serving as the Dean of leading business schools and advising governments on how to create innovation-driven economies. He shares key insights on how emerging markets can learn from global success stories and adapt them to their own unique environments. We dive deep into: • Defining Innovation: How innovation differs from invention and why successful market adoption is key. • National Innovation Strategies: Why political leadership plays a crucial role in fostering innovation. • The Role of Governments: How government policies, procurement, and infrastructure investments can catalyze innovation. • Emerging Market Leadership: Lessons from countries like Singapore, China, and Finland on transforming national economies. • The Role of Talent: Why attracting, developing, and retaining skilled professionals is critical for sustainable innovation. • Measuring Innovation: A breakdown of the Global Innovation Index and how emerging markets can climb the rankings. • Collaboration vs. Competition: Why innovation thrives in open, knowledge-sharing ecosystems. Key Takeaways from the Episode: 1. Innovation Requires Strong Leadership: Countries that successfully foster innovation have strong political leadership that prioritizes R&D, education, and infrastructure. 2. Government as an Enabler: From providing financial incentives to setting up digital infrastructure, how governments can play a key role in ensuring businesses and entrepreneurs can innovate effectively. 3. Why Emerging Markets Need a Unique Strategy: Instead of mimicking Silicon Valley, emerging markets must leverage their strengths, such as market-driven innovations and regulatory flexibility. 4. The Importance of Talent & Immigration: Nations that attract and retain top talent consistently outperform others in innovation. Policies that make it easier for skilled professionals to relocate can accelerate growth. 5. Learning from China & Singapore: China's strategic long-term investment in innovation and Singapore's structured approach to attracting businesses provide models that other emerging markets can adapt. 6. Infrastructure as a Foundation: A strong innovation ecosystem needs reliable digital and physical infrastructure, including roads, internet connectivity, and financial systems. 7. The Power of KPIs and Measurement: Innovation must be measured effectively—governments should not just aim to climb rankings but use metrics to improve their weakest links. 8. Open Innovation & Collaboration: The best innovation economies prioritize knowledge-sharing and open-source development over isolationist policies.

Eigenlayer is a protocol for decentralized trust, allowing anyone to build new crypto applications without worrying about the source of trust. It enables other protocols to inherit the security of Ethereum by staking ETH and running the Ethereum protocol correctly. Eigenlayer also introduces the concept of Actively Validated Services (AVS), which consume decentralized trust from the Eigenlayer ecosystem. AVSs are verifiable SaaS (Software as a Service) that provide specialized services on top of Eigenlayer. Economic security is crucial for the short-term trust in blockchain systems, while social consensus operates on a longer time scale. The conversation explores the concept of economic security and the role of institutions in managing risks. It discusses the importance of protocols having sharp measured security and the need for regularizing risks in the crypto space. The conversation also delves into the idea of open innovation and the goal of empowering better services. The second part of the conversation focuses on the interplay between objective, subjective, and intersubjective faults in blockchain systems. It explains the need to bring social truth on-chain and the mechanism of forking to determine the true version of a token. The conversation concludes by highlighting the benefits of pooling security and the importance of isolation between financial applications and forking applications. EigenLayer's core premise is to provide decentralized trust to as many different applications as possible. The Eigen token is consumed by AVSs for intersubjective false and intersubjective staking. In the event of a fault, all AVSs must decide which token to follow within a lag period. Forking occurs after the 28-day period, with each AVS switching to one of the two forks. The system ensures that faults are adjudicated by a majority vote among eigenstakers. The AVSs are compensated for any faults, and the system remains secure as long as the transaction value is less than the attributable security. The Eigen token design went through multiple iterations, with the goal of finding the right balance between order and chaos. EigenLayer's view is that decentralized trust is the raw material of the crypto economy, and trustless composability is crucial. The project aims to bridge the gap between short-term utility and long-term merit. The success of EigenLayer's ecosystem was an emergent phenomenon, driven by the principles of reducing capital costs and incentivizing adoption.   If you weren't able to attend the Innov8rs Conference in Amsterdam, you missed out on some great speakers, a friendly, collaborative environment, and the latest industry updates on open innovation. My experience at the conference was so positive that it got me thinking about the definition of open innovation. It's a question I love to ask my guests, and the answers vary from industry to industry. For me, open innovation is all-encompassing, including everything from the initial idea to seeing value returned from the successful launch of the idea. Innovation isn't just about the next great idea—it's about bringing that product to market and seeing consumers respond.   Today, I summarize my experience at the Innov8rs Conference, the concept of open innovation, and its implementation in various industries. I describe open innovation and how it pertains to consumers, partners, consultants, universities, and startups.
