Our Cyber Predictions and 2025 Proved Us Right (Mostly)

Security Squawk

In this annual Security Squawk tradition, we do two things most people avoid: accountability and predictions. First, we break down the top cyber-attacks of 2025 and translate them into what actually matters for business owners, IT pros, and MSPs. Then we grade our predictions from last year using real outcomes. No excuses. No hand waving. No “well technically.” Why does this episode matter? Because 2025 made one thing painfully clear. Most cyber damage does not come from genius hackers. It comes from predictable failures. Unpatched systems. Over-trusted third parties. Tokens and sessions that live too long. Help desks that can be socially engineered. And organizations that still treat cybersecurity like an IT issue instead of a business survival issue. We start with the Top 10 Cyber-Attacks of 2025 and pull out the patterns hiding behind the headlines. This year's list includes ransomware and extortion campaigns, software supply chain failures, identity and OAuth token abuse, and attacks that caused real operational disruption, not just data exposure. These stories show how attackers scale impact by targeting widely deployed platforms and trusted business tools, then turning that access into downtime, data theft, and brand damage. One of the biggest lessons of 2025 is simple: identity is the new perimeter. Many of the most important incidents were not break-in stories. They were log-in stories. Stolen sessions and OAuth tokens keep working because they let attackers bypass MFA, move quickly, and blend in as legitimate users. If your security strategy is focused only on blocking failed logins, you are watching the wrong signal. 2025 also reinforced how fragile third-party trust has become. Integrations are everywhere. They make businesses faster and more efficient, but they also expand the blast radius. When a third-party tool or service account is compromised, it can become a shortcut into systems that were never directly attacked. In this episode, we talk about practical steps like minimizing access scopes, eliminating unnecessary integrations, shortening token lifetimes, and having a real plan to revoke access when something looks off. We also dig into why on-prem enterprise tools continue to get hammered. Many organizations still run internet-facing platforms that are patched slowly and monitored poorly. Attackers love that combination. In 2025, we saw repeated exploitation of high-value enterprise software where a single weakness led to widespread compromise across industries. If your patching strategy is “we will get to it,” attackers already have. Another major theme this year was operational disruption. Some of the costliest incidents were not just about stolen data. They shut down production, halted sales, broke customer service systems, and created ripple effects across supply chains. That is where executives feel cyber risk the hardest. Data loss hurts. Downtime is a business emergency. Then we grade last year's predictions. Did AI take our jobs? Not even close. What it did do was raise the baseline for both attackers and defenders. AI improved phishing quality, accelerated scams, and forced organizations to confront the risks of adopting new tools without clear controls. We also review our call on token and session-based attacks. That prediction aged well. Identity-layer abuse dominated 2025. The issue was not a lack of MFA. The issue was that attackers did not need to defeat MFA if they could steal what comes after it. We also revisit regulation. It did not arrive all at once. It crept forward. Agencies and lawmakers continued tightening expectations, especially in sectors that keep getting hit. Businesses that wait for mandates before improving controls will pay more later, either through recovery costs, insurance pressure, or lost trust. Finally, we look ahead to 2026 with new predictions that are probable, not obvious. We discuss what is likely to change around identity, help desk security, SaaS governance, and how leaders measure cyber readiness. The short version is this: 2026 will reward companies that treat access as a living system and punish those that treat it like a one-time setup. If you like the show, help us grow it. Subscribe, leave a review, and share this episode with someone who still thinks cybersecurity is just antivirus and a firewall. Some years don't end the way we hoped. Maybe you're closing out this one feeling tired, tender, or still waiting on something God hasn't yet revealed. But today's episode is a reminder that Emmanuel — God with us — isn't just present on the mountaintops. He's with us in the middle moments too.As we look back on the quiet, unseen parts of this year, we can trace His faithfulness, even in the hard parts. Because His promise was never “I'll fix everything by December.” It was “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)So take a deep breath, friend. The in-between is holy ground.Let's end the year resting in His presence, not striving for perfection.I'm cheering you on as you close this chapter — not with pressure, but with peace.SUPPORT BY WORDS: https://buymeacoffee.com/bywordsMy favorite Bible studies + devotionals - HANNAHHUGHES10  for 10% off: https://thedailygraceco.com?dt_id=300773 CONNECT:hello@thehannahhughes.comhttps://www.instagram.com/thehannahhughes

This message explores the powerful truth that Jesus is our atonement and the only one who makes us right with God. Drawing from Romans 3:23-26, we walk through the deep need for atonement, what it truly means, and what it accomplishes for us through the sacrifice of Christ. From the reality of sin and separation to the beauty of redemption, reconciliation, and righteousness, this teaching highlights how Jesus did not simply offer a sacrifice but became the sacrifice. His blood covers, cleanses, restores, and removes the barrier between us and God. Through Him we stand forgiven, free, and fully accepted. Jesus is our atonement, and through His finished work we are brought into new life and lasting peace with God.

It's Friday, July 26th, A.D. 2024. This is The World View in 5 Minutes, written by yours truly and heard at www.TheWorldView.com. Filling in for Adam McManus, I'm Ean Leppin. Hope emerging in Indonesia International Christian Concern, or the ICC, reports that residents living near the Tesalonika Church in Indonesia rioted and demanded that the church cease its worship activities. The footage of the rioters went viral on social media this week. A representative of the church stated that the church had been gathering inside a home because their lease for their previous place of worship had expired. Churches that meet in larger cities in Indonesia can generally worship openly; however, churches in smaller villages are increasingly challenged, threatened, and attacked. The ICC goes on to say, “Muslims are increasingly leaving Islam to follow Jesus, and devoted Muslims are taking notice. At the same time, religious tolerance is increasing in Indonesia and some churches are finally gaining approval to construct their own buildings after years and even decades of waiting.” Please pray to praise God for the growth of Christianity in Indonesia and to give boldness and strength for those who continue to face persecution. Jesus prayed for the church in John 17:16-19: “They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. Sanctify them in the truth. As you sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be sanctified in truth.” Pro-life groups branded terrorists? Are pro-life Americans and groups branded as terrorists by the US Army? In a word … yes. Lifenews.com reported that journalist Sam Shoemate exposed a terrorism briefing held at Fort Liberty where they listed several pro-life organizations as terrorist organizations. Shoemate posted this on X on July 10th. They specifically named US Right to Life and Operation Rescue as terrorist organizations. The military facility has since recalled the slide that was in the presentation and revised it. In their own post on X, they said, “After conducting a commander's inquiry, we determined that the slides presented on social media were not vetted by the appropriate authorities, and do not reflect the views of the XVIII Airborne Corps and Fort Liberty, the US Army or the Department of Defense. These slides will no longer be used, and all future training products will be reviewed to ensure they align with the current DoD anti-terrosism guidance.” Ted Budd, a senator from North Carolina, issued a letter in response on July 12th, saying, “The Army must fully renounce this attack on pro-life Americans and conduct a full investigation to ensure similar materials aren't being used at other installations.” It has been revealed that these slides have been in use for the past 7 years at Fort Liberty. Articles of impeachment filed against Kamala Harris WGN News reports that six Democrats have joined House Republicans in voting to condemn the Biden administration and Vice President Kamala Harris in her role as US border czar. Earlier this year, GOP Lawmakers impeached Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas for his failure to secure the border. Representative Andy Ogles from Tennessee has filed articles of impeachment against Harris. In an interview with Fox News Representative Ogles said this. CLIP: "We have a crisis…failure" Ogles goes on to say that this is not only his duty, but that time is also of the essence! CLIP: "I have an oath…if you will" Romans 13:1-2 says, “Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment.” First US House member to deliver floor speech using AI voice clone As reported by AP News, a rare neurological disorder called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, or PSP, took the voice of Representative Jennifer Wexton from Virginia. A new AI technology made it possible for her to speak before the House on Thursday! Rep Wexton spoke as a voice for other people with disabilities during Disability Pride Month. She also became the first House member in history to speak using an AI clone of her own voice. Here is part of her statement. CLIP: "I also never…so much more" Boy in foster care allowed to stay with disabled brother Finally, reported on Good news network.org, Dawson and his older brother Dalton were two brothers who were in the foster system together. Staying together was very important to Dawson because his brother Dalton has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, is non-verbal, and a quadriplegic. Keeping them together in the adoption process would be very challenging! But thanks to the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, a couple from Florida, and the grace of God, the boys are now together and in a new home with a loving family. That couple is Steven and Robbin. Robbin says that she couldn't have asked for better sons. She says, “Dawson is the person he is because he got the opportunity to keep his brother. It's half of him-that's his heart.” As for Dawson, he wants to grow up to be a doctor so that he can take care of people that have needs similar to that of his big brother. It's News Day Tuesday! Sam and Emma break down the biggest headlines of the day. But first, they speak with Mark Joseph Stern, senior writer at Slate, to discuss some of the recent developments at the Supreme Court. First, they run through updates on Biden's criticism of the ICC's Israeli arrest warrants (as well as the important ICC support coming out of Europe), the aid that still hasn't gotten to Gaza, Israel's regime of repression, today's US primaries, California's special election, Nevada's abortion referendum, Truth Social, and the FBI's Eric Adams investigation, before parsing through the initial reporting on the ICC's arrest warrants for Israeli and Hamas officials. Mark Joseph Stern then joins, diving right into the impending milestone of the Biden Administration's 200th successful federal judicial nomination, and the importance of moving away from the corporate judges of the Obama Administration, towards candidates that will have greater longevity in the system. Next, Mark, Sam, and Emma shift to the ongoing legal attack on the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as the US Right followed the initial Supreme Court undercutting of it in 2020 with an audacious plan to make the entire Bureau (and many other major federal agencies) unconstitutional due to their funding coming from the Federal Reserve, walking through why the Right can funnel even the most absurd legal cases through the court of appeals due to the insane biases of the 5th Circuit and single-judge divisions killing random assignment, even if (as in this case) it has no chance at the Supreme Court. Expanding on this, Stern parses through how the 5th Circuit serves as an “audition” spot for future conservative Supreme Court justices, before looking to Louisiana's conservative judges' active attempt to undercut the restructuring of Louisiana's congressional districts, and why the Supreme Court is holding firm on not allowing major changes (like this reversion) in the months before an election. Wrapping up, Mark, Sam, and Emma tackle the continuing revelations around the Court's major corruption – from judicial support of January 6th to shady financial ties – and what Congress can do to push back And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma discuss the few Israelis standing up to the IDF and Israeli thugs attacking aid due for Gaza, Byron Donalds calls for drug testing Biden, and Holland from Phoenix dives into border fear-mongering. Tim from Connecticut asks about Israel's plan for Gaza, Elise Stefanik calls out Fox for using propaganda that came straight from her own mouth, and Rudy Giuliani starts slinging mud.
