The Taliban authorities in Afghanistan have been celebrating the fifth anniversary of their return to power in Kabul. But they continue to face allegations of severe repression of women and girls, who are now virtually excluded from all public life. The BBC's Lyse Doucet has an assessment of life under the Taliban and she talks to two former BBC Afghan journalists who managed to escape rule under the Taliban. Also in the programme: Israel has defended its deadly strikes across southern Lebanon, saying they were in retaliation for a Hezbollah attack on its occupying forces. We find out why the Lebanese president has cast doubts on Israel's sincerity in peace negotiations. And we hear from the soul backing trio, the Womack sisters who've finally released their self-titled debut album this week. Matthew 13: 47-51, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a fishing net that was thrown into the water and caught fish of every kind. When the net was full, they dragged it up onto the shore, sat down, and sorted the good fish into crates, but threw the bad ones away. that is the way it will be at the end of the world. The angels will come and separate the wicked people from the righteous, throwing the wicked into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Do you understand all these things?” So, Jesus is saying in the end there will only be 2 categories of people and they will be separated out by the angels. There will be the wicked and the righteous. The wicked’s fate is the fiery furnace of misery. The righteous will be kept and carried off. We know from earlier parables in this chapter that the righteous will shine like the sun in their Father’s Kingdom. So, it’s clear who we don’t want to be – we don’t want to be the wicked. And it’s clear who we do want to be – we want to be the righteous. Now, how can we be sure because this is eternity we’re talking about. There will be no undoing this. After sharing this story, Jesus says, “Do you understand all these things?” No – I honestly don’t at this point, Jesus, help me understand. Explain this to us. He wants us to understand this, so let’s dig deeper here for understanding. When I’m trying to understand scripture, I do a few things: 1. I look at different translations for clearer wording. 2. I look up the original Greek or Hebrew words and their definitions. 3. I read commentary to get additional understanding. Looking at other translations of this parable, they all say it in the same words – there are the good and the bad – the righteous and the wicked, and in the end they are getting separated. Until then, they will be in the same waters living together. God doesn’t separate us now, but the day will come when he does. Now, let’s look at the original text. These spoken words of Jesus were recorded by the disciple Matthew after he personally heard them. The language was Greek. In Greek, the two groups people will be separated into are the ponēros and the dikaious. The ponēros are the wicked ones. The word means evil, bad, harmful, morally corrupt. It describes one who is not only bad in character, but produces bad effects. This isn’t the person who messes up in their life and fails – this is the person who is truly bad. This isn’t about just doing bad things – this is about BEING bad. It’s a moral corruption from within. It’s a genuinely rotten, poisonous fruit. Religion has warped this word to make us think we’re going to Hell if we sin. Well, here’s the really bad news about that teaching – WE ALL SIN. Every single one of us. There has only been one without sin and that was Jesus. The rest of us aren’t good enough – but that doesn’t mean we are wicked. This word ponēros is used when Jesus teaches us how to pray in Matthew 6. Verse 13, “deliver us from the evil one.” That’s the ponēros one. Satan. So his people, his followers, his devoted workers are the ones who Jesus tells us are wicked. They are the ones who will meet the fate of the fiery furnace. These are NOT the ones who have made wrong choices and wandered off the path occasionally. These are the ones who are inherently evil. —— Then there are the dikaious. Here’s what that word means – those who are in right standing with God. Here’s what that word doesn’t necessarily mean – a good person. We try to make this all about us, about our acts, our deeds, and our track record. And if we do, we always fall short. We simply are not righteous. No matter how good you are, it hasn’t made you right with God. There is one thing and one thing only that has made you right with God – that’s the man on the middle cross. Jesus gives us right standing with a Holy and perfect God. JUST JESUS. 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be MADE RIGHT WITH GOD through Christ.” This is how we are the diakious – the righteous – the ones who will get to shine bright in the Kingdom of God forever! Jesus did that for us. Romans 5:17, “God’s wonderful grace and his GIFT OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.” Righteousness is a gift of God’s grace. No, we don’t deserve it, but he gives it to us anyway. You can stop thinking you have to make yourself good enough and receive the grace that completely covers you. Romans 3:22, “We are made RIGHT WITH GOD by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. yet God, in his grace, freely makes US RIGHT in his sight. People are made RIGHT WITH GOD when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood.” It just couldn’t be any clearer than that. We are made right with God through one thing and one thing alone – BELIEVING IN JESUS! And no matter who you are, no matter what you’ve done, no matter where you’ve come from or how wrong you’ve been, this is true for YOU. YOU ARE RIGHTEOUS THROUGH JESUS. So my friend, your destiny is sealed. If you believe in Jesus, you are in the diakious, the righteous, the ones in right standing with God. And your future is secure in Jesus – you get to shine in God’s Kingdom forever! So let’s go back to Jesus’ question: “Do you understand all these things?” I think I finally understand what He’s trying to show us. One day, the net is going to come ashore. One day, there will be a separation. One day, this life will be over, and eternity will begin. And on that day, the question won’t be, “Were you perfect?” Because none of us were. It won’t be, “Did you make good choices every day?” Because none of us did. It won’t even be, “Were you good enough?” Because none of us are. The question is: What did you do with Jesus? Because there are only two categories in the end: the wicked and the righteous. And here’s the incredible news for every person who has put their faith in Jesus: Jesus makes you righteous. Not your performance. Not your religious résumé. Not how many Bible verses you know. Not how many times you’ve gotten it right. Jesus. The man on the middle cross took what belonged to you so that you could receive what belonged to Him. He took your sin. He gave you His righteousness. He took your shame. He gave you His grace. He took your condemnation. He gave you right standing with God. So stop trying to earn what Jesus already died to give you. You don’t have to spend the rest of your life wondering, “Am I good enough?” You aren’t. Jesus is. And that’s the whole point. The Gospel isn’t that you finally became good enough for God. The Gospel is that Jesus was good enough for you. So when the net comes ashore, I don’t want to be standing there hoping my good outweighs my bad. I want to be standing there covered by Jesus. I want to be found in Christ. I want His righteousness to be my righteousness. And then—because I have received His life—I want that life to change the way I live here and now. Because this isn’t just about where we go when we die. It’s about who we become while we’re alive. If Jesus has truly gotten into your life, He should eventually begin getting into everything. Your thoughts. Your words. Your relationships. Your decisions. Your money. Your marriage. Your work. Your habits. Your reactions. Your dreams. Your disappointments. Everything. He becomes the center. And when Jesus becomes the center, He begins changing what your life produces. So don’t spend your life trying to prove you’re good enough. Receive the righteousness Jesus freely gives you. And then spend the rest of your life letting Him transform you from the inside out. Because someday the net will come ashore. And when that day comes, I want to hear Jesus say: “You are Mine.” And I want to shine like the sun in my Father’s Kingdom. Not because I was good enough. Because Jesus was. Today we break down why the US-Iran war reignited over the Strait of Hormuz, why the June ceasefire collapsed, and what a waterway a single drone can shut means for oil prices, escalation, and how this conflict actually ends. Mike "FLASH" McVay sits down with Dr. Michael Bosack, founder of the Parley Policy Initiative and former Deputy Secretary of the UN Command Military Armistice Commission, to make sense of the current escalation. The conversation covers the five ways wars actually end, the difference between a negative and a positive peace, the good, bad, and ugly of the memorandum of understanding that was supposed to stop the fighting, why the Strait of Hormuz was the flaw nobody was talking about, and why negotiation at this level is a game of poker, not chess. "There is magic in cooking, and in cooking Italian food there is alchemy" - Old World Italian by Mimi ThorissonSince our lives contain multitudes, yes an American poet once said that, I feel to step away from the noise is to disarm the outside influences that are at times necessary and sometimes it is just kind of ridiculous. So the remedy is to open a cookbook and read a recipe and make something beautiful. I am an instinctual cook, I like throwing things together and using what is within reach, but sometimes I do find it quite meditative to pull a book and take some quiet time to wander through the pages, let the pages talk to me. I find this kind of thing quite wonderful and simple. I like reading about the author's philosophy and personal experience, what brought them to share their world of cooking and eating and sharing. I find this rather meditative and inspirational, a balm for my spirit. In these changing times I believe it could be the perfect antidote to the things piling up on top of us. Cook something, eat something, and maybe share it with a friend.Note: The image is from my table, while editing I was baking my favourite Ricciarelli - the Tuscan almond biscuits from the cookbook by Gennaro Contaldo - Gennaro's Italian Bakery...Enjoy, Michelle xShownotes A Writer in Italy InstagramSubstack - At My TableMichelle's BooksMusical Scores by Richard JohnstonA Writer in Italy is about travel and life. This episode is different. No guest. No script. Just me, raw and unfiltered, talking about what's actually happening in the economy, why making it feels impossible right now, and what it's going to take to win anyway. Because the truth is, you're not crazy. It IS harder. But that doesn't mean you're stuck. Our Cyber Predictions and 2025 Proved Us Right (Mostly)

Security Squawk

In this annual Security Squawk tradition, we do two things most people avoid: accountability and predictions. First, we break down the top cyber-attacks of 2025 and translate them into what actually matters for business owners, IT pros, and MSPs. Then we grade our predictions from last year using real outcomes. No excuses. No hand waving. No “well technically.” Why does this episode matter? Because 2025 made one thing painfully clear. Most cyber damage does not come from genius hackers. It comes from predictable failures. Unpatched systems. Over-trusted third parties. Tokens and sessions that live too long. Help desks that can be socially engineered. And organizations that still treat cybersecurity like an IT issue instead of a business survival issue. We start with the Top 10 Cyber-Attacks of 2025 and pull out the patterns hiding behind the headlines. This year's list includes ransomware and extortion campaigns, software supply chain failures, identity and OAuth token abuse, and attacks that caused real operational disruption, not just data exposure. These stories show how attackers scale impact by targeting widely deployed platforms and trusted business tools, then turning that access into downtime, data theft, and brand damage. One of the biggest lessons of 2025 is simple: identity is the new perimeter. Many of the most important incidents were not break-in stories. They were log-in stories. Stolen sessions and OAuth tokens keep working because they let attackers bypass MFA, move quickly, and blend in as legitimate users. If your security strategy is focused only on blocking failed logins, you are watching the wrong signal. 2025 also reinforced how fragile third-party trust has become. Integrations are everywhere. They make businesses faster and more efficient, but they also expand the blast radius. When a third-party tool or service account is compromised, it can become a shortcut into systems that were never directly attacked. In this episode, we talk about practical steps like minimizing access scopes, eliminating unnecessary integrations, shortening token lifetimes, and having a real plan to revoke access when something looks off. We also dig into why on-prem enterprise tools continue to get hammered. Many organizations still run internet-facing platforms that are patched slowly and monitored poorly. Attackers love that combination. In 2025, we saw repeated exploitation of high-value enterprise software where a single weakness led to widespread compromise across industries. If your patching strategy is “we will get to it,” attackers already have. Another major theme this year was operational disruption. Some of the costliest incidents were not just about stolen data. They shut down production, halted sales, broke customer service systems, and created ripple effects across supply chains. That is where executives feel cyber risk the hardest. Data loss hurts. Downtime is a business emergency. Then we grade last year's predictions. Did AI take our jobs? Not even close. What it did do was raise the baseline for both attackers and defenders. AI improved phishing quality, accelerated scams, and forced organizations to confront the risks of adopting new tools without clear controls. We also review our call on token and session-based attacks. That prediction aged well. Identity-layer abuse dominated 2025. The issue was not a lack of MFA. The issue was that attackers did not need to defeat MFA if they could steal what comes after it. We also revisit regulation. It did not arrive all at once. It crept forward. Agencies and lawmakers continued tightening expectations, especially in sectors that keep getting hit. Businesses that wait for mandates before improving controls will pay more later, either through recovery costs, insurance pressure, or lost trust. Finally, we look ahead to 2026 with new predictions that are probable, not obvious. We discuss what is likely to change around identity, help desk security, SaaS governance, and how leaders measure cyber readiness. The short version is this: 2026 will reward companies that treat access as a living system and punish those that treat it like a one-time setup. If you like the show, help us grow it. Some years don't end the way we hoped. Maybe you're closing out this one feeling tired, tender, or still waiting on something God hasn't yet revealed. But today's episode is a reminder that Emmanuel — God with us — isn't just present on the mountaintops. He's with us in the middle moments too.As we look back on the quiet, unseen parts of this year, we can trace His faithfulness, even in the hard parts. Because His promise was never “I'll fix everything by December.” It was “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:20)So take a deep breath, friend. The in-between is holy ground.Let's end the year resting in His presence, not striving for perfection.I'm cheering you on as you close this chapter — not with pressure, but with peace.SUPPORT BY WORDS: https://buymeacoffee.com/bywordsMy favorite Bible studies + devotionals - HANNAHHUGHES10  for 10% off: https://thedailygraceco.com?dt_id=300773 CONNECT:hello@thehannahhughes.comhttps://www.instagram.com/thehannahhughes

This message explores the powerful truth that Jesus is our atonement and the only one who makes us right with God. Drawing from Romans 3:23-26, we walk through the deep need for atonement, what it truly means, and what it accomplishes for us through the sacrifice of Christ. From the reality of sin and separation to the beauty of redemption, reconciliation, and righteousness, this teaching highlights how Jesus did not simply offer a sacrifice but became the sacrifice. His blood covers, cleanses, restores, and removes the barrier between us and God. Through Him we stand forgiven, free, and fully accepted. Jesus is our atonement, and through His finished work we are brought into new life and lasting peace with God.
