POPULARITY
When I began looking into hospitality about 12 years ago, I felt totally overwhelmed. It felt like such a big thing to be, because I just didn't know what it looked like or how to practice it. So in today's last episode of our hospitality mini series, we are going to chat about how we can get practical with practicing hospitality. Listen to the Podcast: You can find all the links and notes for this episode below! And don't forget to subscribe to the podcast in iTunes Right click here and save-as to download this episode to your computer. Getting Practical 1) Make a list of 4-5 wonderful hospitality recipes to make Don't try and reinvent the wheel each time. Create a few go-to staples you make and do those each time. The more you practice, the easier and more second nature it will become. Make sure to come up with at least one great gluten free meal and one great dairy free meal in the rotation. 2) Start inviting Seriously, just do it. The first time you blurt out, "Would you like to come to our house for dinner?" might feel awkward! But keep doing it. It becomes easier. 3) If you don't have kids Please invite the families over with kids. Go to the thrift store and have one small box of toys that you can pull out when kids come over. And don't be offended if the family with kids instead invite you over to their house. 4) Plan Ahead I know the first few times we extended hospitality to people we didn't know very well, it felt like it took a week to get ready. Things I don't normally notice (such as cobwebs and dirty mirrors) were suddenly obvious to me! I felt overwhelmed and I was exhausted after the first few people came over. But as time went on, I became more comfortable with the routine. We started practicing hospitality so often that I was always planning ahead to the next get together. This way the house never got too out of hand. After one night of hospitality I knew I had better stay on top of the house and cleaning because a new family would be in our dining room the following week! 5) Think outside the box with hospitality, it doesn't have to cost a ton Practicing hospitality doesn't have to cost a lot of money! Many people feel that they don't have room in their budget to have families over. But don't stretch yourself. Start with a commitment of having a family over once a month and serve pizza! Everyone loves pizza; your meal doesn't have to be complex or fancy. Many families will offer to bring something to dinner. LET THEM! If they ask, let them bring a dessert or side dish. Try out freezer cooking and make all your meals ahead, it can save a lot of money! 6) Learn from others As you start extending hospitality, just wait and you will get invited over to other's houses as well. Learn from what they do. When you get invited to other's houses, make a mental note of what they do from the moment you walk in the house. Do they have music playing? What kinds of questions did they ask? Did they get a card game out or offer coffee after dinner? This is the best way to learn new tips and tricks. Offering coffee at the end of a meal is a great comfort to offer, but if you never drink coffee past 10am then you might not think about it. Glean from other's experiences and wisdom. 7) And ASK When practicing hospitality, ask, ask, ask. Many people that we have invited over to our house, we felt nervous about asking…will they want to come over? We barely know them…do they even know who we are? But everyone loves to be invited over. So just ask! Ask about food allergies or preferences. You don't want to make a big meaty lasagna only to find out that one kid is allergic to tomatoes and Mom is a vegetarian! Ask other women for their hospitality tips. Many women like to share what they do to make their home welcoming, so ask those around you how they do it! Remember, it's not about your home, it's about your heart At the end of the day your candles don't matter.
The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes. The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether. More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer. (Psalm 19:7-14) 22 While they were thinking on these things, a Stranger walked out. That's usually…?… That's when you want to get… When you go to thinking about Him, that's when He appears. They were talking about Him when He appeared. And that's the reason, maybe, He doesn't appear to so many of us. We talk too much about other things instead about Jesus. Maybe we're talking about trading cars, something else, or the washing, what kind of soap powder do you use, listening to the radio and some kind of nonsense. That's the reason He doesn't appear. If we'd just keep our minds on Him… “Let the meditation of my heart.” He told Joshua, He said, “Meditate on these things day and night.” David said, “I'll bind Them on my bed post.” Sure. Let Them stay in, inside of you and think of Them, meditate upon Them. And that's when He appears. Do you ever notice how the Angel of the Lord comes? Of a evening at three o'clock when I go in, I close everything out, don't let no one come in, and just set there and read the Word, and yield myself until I know He's there. I can feel it when He's coming. He comes in, and I know He's there. Oh, my. That's the way you do. That's the way the disciples did. They were with one place in one accord in an upper room. And they were all up there praising Him. And all of a sudden He came in. That's the way He does it. 56-0405 - "The Resurrection Of Jesus" Rev. Revelation 5:9-10,NKJV- They sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and have made us KINGS and PRIESTS to our God; and we shall reign on the earth.” This phrase kings and priests is not just the future assignment of God’s people, it’s a reminder that God’s original design was and is for the church and business, education, and government to function as one. God is counting on Holy Spirit anointed men and women, occupying as kings in their field of business, education, and government. And God has filled our OT with pictures of His original design to not only inspire us, but strengthen us to translate this truth into our culture today. Exodus 19:3-5,MSG- As Moses went up to meet God, God called down to him from the mountain: “Speak to the House of Jacob, tell the people of Israel: “You have seen what I did to Egypt and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Me. If you will listen obediently to what I say and keep My covenant, out of all peoples you’ll be My special treasure. The whole Earth is Mine to choose from, but you’re special: a kingdom of priests, a holy nation.” 1 Peter 2:9,NKJV- “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” As God’s special people, when we come together, inspiring, encouraging, assisting, balancing one another, doing things His way, it absolutely proclaims and displays the praises of our God. Kings and Priests flowing as one. Throughout the OT, on every occasion, when kings knew their role of secular, civil, and governmental affairs, and they relied on the spiritual guidance of the priest, all they did was blessed. God’s plan is and always has been that all spiritual and civil structure of any society be led by Him, to function under His ordained positions of the king and the priest. We simply have to be able to interpret this kings and priests revelation in light of Jesus’ New Covenant. His design has always been for the church, His body to be at the center of all civil, social, and governmental affairs. And I do think the NLT’s view, “priest kings” is a great description from the perspective of how God designed us to flow together. But the function of each does differ. Being submitted to God’s kingdom doesn’t mean unhooking from the world and going into the ministry. Don’t forget God deliberately plants the righteous in certain places in this fallen world. This is why Jesus prayed for us this’d way, “Father, I have given them Your word; because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world. I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” This is Peter’s point that we are to be these royal, priestly people representing God. 1 Peter 2:9,NKJV- “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” But because we have allowed division between the kings and priests, the enemy has gotten his foot in the door. And one of his most successful tactics of distractions is manipulation and fear. But the church is waking up! I believe what the prophet Ezekiel said is unfolding. “This desolate land will become like the garden of Eden.” Think about it, what if the ascendency of the righteous became so dominant that all the affairs of the nation were under the hands of the righteous? Genesis 1:26,NKJV- Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” The Kingdom of Heaven, God’s government is His ordained system that He’s expecting to be implemented by His governing body, the church in the earth. These principles only work within the boundaries of the Kingdom of God. Which means we have to have a clearer understanding of how God’s government works. God is calling kings and priests together for the advancement of His kingdom in these last days. These principles are superior principles from a supernatural position. Accessible only through faith and obedience. Remember our OT examples, every time kings and priests flowed together, obedient to the Lord, everything they did was blessed. It’s never out of some legalistic approach, but functioning within the boundaries of God’s established government. In other words, operating under the instructions of the King. The centurion soldier understood this reality perfectly. Luke 6, “Why do you call Me Lord, and not do the things which I say?” Colossians 2:6,NKJV- “As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,” One of Jesus’ primary purposes since He arrived is establishing His Kingdom, getting His self-contained government operational. Matthew 6:33,AMP- “But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.” John 14:21,NKJV- “He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” But until we stop seeing church as some religious organization and understand Jesus’ commands, were never intended to be a bunch of legalistic, religious rules, but commands from our King concerning the function of His Kingdom. No where in His plan did He ever intend on religion being part of it. From His start, Jesus was setting up His kingdom with people willing to follow Him, of their own free will. Religion is nothing more than mans response to the spiritual vacuum created as a result of a broken covenant. Something religion refuses to embrace is that God in His self-existing holiness cannot violate His Word. This is why he tells all of us we have to put His Kingdom principles first. But when the influence of God is removed form the social and civil functions of our culture, people are left to their own conclusions. Proverbs tells us, where there is no divine revelation from the Almighty, people make their own decisions. I honestly believe that this OT model of Kings and Priests is exactly the answer our world needs before Jesus comes back for His glorious bride. “Father your will be done on the earth as it is in heaven.” Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, it absolutely amazes me just how much people will accept as truth so they don’t have to submit to the Lordship of Jesus. This is why God gave the church apostles, prophets, and teachers, to equip the body of Christ with truth pertaining to His kingdom. Remember what Paul told us, “The same way you received Christ, walk in Him.” Each person has to choose. That’s the incredible power of free will. Just like we believe Jesus is Savior, we must believe that He is Lord. We have to choose to accept the fact that Him and His Word are the "I Am" of His self-existence. This is why the Psalmist says, His Word is flawless, proven, living, and eternal. Forever settled. So, when God spoke in Genesis 1, He established the realities of His Kingdom, within His creation. This is why the angel said, what is man that you are mindful of him? Hebrews 2:6-8,NKJV- What is mankind that you are mindful of them, and son of man that you care for him? You made them a little lower than the angels; you crowned them with glory and honor and put everything under their feet. In putting everything under them, God left nothing that is not subject to them. Yet at present we do not see everything subject to them. Genesis 1, God said, Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; LET THEM have dominion over all the earth. He didn't say, let Us have dominion. And regardless of how much religion apposes this revelation, by His very own words, He established mankind as the only legal authority on the earth. "Let them have dominion" is the foundational principle behind God creating us. God designed us to be His sovereign representatives of His Kingdom in our natural world. Make no mistake, Revelation 5 is absolutely bringing God’s original intent back into perspective, He made us kings and priests to reign on the earth. God's plan for His creation hasn't changed. This is why He made us in His image. We're suppose to act like Him, not religions attempt at what He's like, but what He's actually like.

Today, as we often do, we're discussing cancel culture. The "cancel mob" can never be satisfied, and more celebrities are being canceled for holding views contrary to the Left, because of course, you can never be woke enough. Gina Carano of the Disney show "The Mandalorian" was fired by Disney for supposedly "abhorrent" tweets, but the same standard isn't being applied to Pedro Pascal, her co-star. Pascal and Carano both tweeted images that compared America to Nazi Germany, but only one of them is being fired. Meanwhile, Rachel Kirkconnell, rumored to be the next winner of "The Bachelor," has been accused of racism for attending an antebellum-themed party a few years ago. Not only that, but when host of the show Chris Harrison called for cooler heads to prevail, he himself was attacked online by the Twitter mob. Lastly, Solly Baby, a company that makes baby products, has come under fire for cultural appropriation after seeking to patent its new baby carrier. Today's sponsor: Built Bar: Stay healthy in 2021! Building a business and raising a family is difficult and can easily lead to burnout. You need discipline, motivation and a superwoman cape to avoid it completely! Burnout has happened to me, which is why I've come up with so many of my systems and why I wrote my book, “Equipped to Execute.” In this episode, I'll cover my tips and tricks for avoiding burnout. Keep your calendar small. I print off a small calendar from timeanddate.com. Each month is the size of a piece of printer paper and I keep it small on purpose so if the things I have planned don't fit in that space, the kids and I are going to feel burned out! Time everything. I do this so I feel less overwhelmed with what I think might be a crazy night. I know it only takes 20 minutes to pick things up and then I feel relieved. Bedtime can be especially stressful so knowing about how long this takes helps you keep your cool. Have a “me” system. If you trust and use your “me” system, you're much less likely to burnout since your priorities are being met each day. Speak this loudly to others and don't allow guilt to creep in. You need to be charged before going to your circus. J As a part of this system, I HIGHLY recommend waking up before your kids. Doing this gives you time to center yourself before you need to start meeting their needs! Have “your thing.” Because people in my life know what I love, they bring me treats (like chai lattes or dark chocolate) or give me time to do things (like take a bath or go for a run) that help give me a break. Make these known to your tribe what these things are so they can help when you're feeling burned out. Know your “must do” factor. Ask yourself what needs to be done TODAY so you can relax a little bit and let the rest go. That might mean doing laundry and waiting to vacuum until tomorrow, or clearing the tables but leaving the dishes in the sink. Don't think you must do everything! Pick three things TOPS. Use your helpline. Friends and family will sense when you are feeling stressed out and if they offer to help, LET THEM! People love to help so listen for these opportunities. Have a “code word.” Develop a word or phrase that alerts your loved ones that you need help. When you use that word or phrase, they think “Bailout!” and can come to your rescue! What are your takeaways from this podcast? Take a few minutes to reflect and take some notes below! We got this Encouragers!!! Click here to get the reflection guide.

The city of Minneapolis has bought into the voodoo economic theory that they can regulate the labor market and bend it to their will. Even if you don’t have employees in Minneapolis, you need to stay on top of all the local HR laws because they are a sign of things to come. Especially if you live in a city that is governed by Democrats. The city of Minneapolis has bought into the voodoo economic theory that they can regulate the labor market and bend it to their will. They’ve jumped on the municipality minimum wage bandwagon and passed an ordinance creating a city minimum wage of $10.00 effective January 1, 2018 and increasing each year until it reaches $15.00 in 2024. The City Council and Mayor apparently unhappy with the federal and state governments lack of action to protect the city’s citizens health, safety and general welfare, have taken matters into their own dirty little hands. You see, the labor market, and every other segment of the economy, are far too complex for any one politician or gaggle of politicians to understand, let alone control. They can manipulate the markets, thereby making them more expensive and complex. They can even kill certain markets sending them into the black market. But the only certain outcome of their meddling is damaging unintended consequences. Seattle’s Minimum Wage: Seattle’s minimum wage took effect April 1, 2015. The minimum gradually increases to $15 per hour as early as this year, and as late as 2021, based on the size of the business. After reaching $15 per hour, it will increase every January 1st thereafter, based on the Consumer Price Index for the area. So how’s it working so far for low-wage workers? The answer, not so well. According to The Seattle Minimum Wage Study Team at the University of Washington, employers have cut their payroll, postponed hiring and reduced hours or terminated employees. Overall, the study says the average low-wage worker lost $125 month because of the increase in the minimum wage. And those are the results of just the first 9 months. Long before the full-effect will be felt. The reports says: “… our best estimates find that the Seattle Minimum Wage Ordinance appears to have lowered employment rates of low-wage workers. This negative unintended consequence (which are predicted by some of the existing economic literature) is concerning and needs to be followed closely in future years, because the long-run effects are likely to be greater as businesses and workers have more time to adapt to the ordinance.” But, maybe economics work differently in Minneapolis. After all, I’m sure, being the rhode scholars they aren’t, the City Council members know what they’re doing. States Are Fighting Back: I don’t know if they have the authority to do this or not, but other municipalities have had their actions overturned by the state and blocked from future similar ordinances. According to an article on the New York Times website titled: Blue Cities Want to Make Their Own Rules. Red States Won’t Let Them., states have banned local ordinances from passing minimum wage increases and paid sick days. In St. Louis for example, a new State law takes effect on August 28th pre-empting the City’s minimum wage ordinance. Their $10 minimum only took effect on May 5, 2017. It was going to increase to $11 on January 1, 2018… but, no more. And in another example, just as the city of Birmingham passed a minimum wage ordinance, the State of Alabama passed a law pre-empting the City from regulating...
