James Hillier is back for part two of his conversation with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater on the TT Podcast.Despite wanting to forget about it at the time, the lightweight TT winner gets into his infamous wobble at Ballagarey, why his first thought after was about Ian Hutchinson and what he learned about the rider's responsibility to look after their bike.A man with BSB experience in his story alongside TT success, Hillier discusses the difference between road and track racing and why the gap between how you ride the different disciplines is closing thanks to the styles of racers like Peter Hickman and Dean Harrison. The family man also talks about his hesitance with the idea of his children following in his racing footsteps, or tire marks, and how his family influences what he wants to achieve with his life.Next week, Chris and Steve are talking to a man who doesn't just race around the Isle of Man but also calls it home, Conor Cummins.Be sure to subscribe to receive that episode as soon as it drops, head to www.iomttraces.com for all the latest TT news and features, and search for @TTRacesOfficial for all our social channels.Music by Calva Louise - latest album ‘Euphoric' out now. Many people go through their day always having to do something. Whether that's getting involved in your kid's activities, running errands, or working – you do things every day to ignite your fire. Even when you work out, you think the harder, faster, or heavier it is, the better.  The question is, do you still have the time to breathe? It's important to understand that as much as you're igniting your fire within, you also have to find your breath.  On today's episode, Duane speaks with Michelle Hillier, speaker, recovery coach, and mind/body educator, about finding your breath and fire and balancing both as you come home to your authentic self. Michelle shares her story of alcoholism and recovery. Now sober for over a year, Michelle feels she has entered her authentic self again, after being lost for 25 years. Movement, yoga, and breathwork were essential parts of her recovery process, which she also teaches to other people through her speaking and workshops across organizations. In this episode, you will hear: Michelle's story of recovery Hiding the need for support through alcohol Glamorizing booze amidst the pandemic How she found her authentic self Finding her middle way between breath and fire How to use movement, breathwork, and yoga to connect to your authentic self Key Quotes: [16:32] - “I thought ‘what would my life look like without alcohol? And then I would just not want to think about it and continue drinking.” [27:26] - "Breath and Fire was birthed out of my recovery." [29:03] - “Having either a pilot light or a blazing inferno, how do we find this optimal, controlled blaze? The birth of Breath and Fire is from recognizing in my day – when do I need breath and when do I need fire?” [31:09] - “When are you taking time, even just 10 minutes, to let your nervous system settle and find your breath?” [32:59] - “If you want to squat or do a stretch or whatever it is, move the energy through your body.” [34:15] - "Meditation is just being aware of our thoughts. Sitting in physical stillness and closing your eyes... connect to your breath, be aware of it." [40:56] - “There's lots of power in one breath. Never forget that.” Subscribe and Review Have you subscribed to our podcast? Would love to know your questions~ “When Sexual Needs and Expectations Among Partners Differ.” For this assignment, you are a special guest on a podcast channel titled “Getting the Most Out of Your Relationship.” The four couple sexual styles (in order of frequency) are as follows: 1. Complementary—“mine and ours” 2. Traditional—“conflict minimizing” 3. Best friend—“soul mate” 4. Emotionally expressive—“fun and erotic” (McCarthy & Ross, 2019) The relational style acts as the most important variable in creating a respectful, trusting, emotional commitment, while the couple sexual style involves the balance of sexual autonomy while being an intimate sexual team who integrate intimacy and eroticism into their relationship. What does it mean to teach and talk about race and racism in our education systems? What does it mean to be White in academia? Here we sit down with Dr. Amy Hillier, MSW, Associate Professor at The School of Social Policy and Practice at the University of Pennsylvania with the following outline: What is CRT look like in your classrooms? What are we getting right and wrong about CRT today? What are White students saying in classrooms about race and racism? How do we translate ideas into praxis? Do you see a role in emotionally and physically locating and embodying ideas? Do you think de-centering Whiteness supports or undermines Derrick Bell's concept of interest convergence? Dr. Hillier's research has focused on historical housing and public health disparities including mortgage redlining, affordable housing, healthy foods, park use and access, and outdoor advertising. Her most recent research focuses on transgender youth and their families. With Dr. Stephanie Boddie, she co-directs http://www.dubois-theward.org/ (The Ward), a research, teaching, and public history project dedicated to sharing the timeless lessons about racism and the role of research in affecting social change based on W.E.B. Du Bois' 1899 book, The Philadelphia Negro. Her teaching has focused on similar topics as her research. She led the required two-course sequence on American racism within SP2's social work program and has taught courses in city planning, urban studies, public health, and social policy focused on equity and social justice. She is the founding director of the cross-school graduate LGBTQ certificate and, with Dr. Beverley Crawford, co-created of the online course, The Penn Experience: Racism, Reconciliation and Engagement. ===== Welcome to our podcast. We're so glad you're here refocusing on Whiteness without supremacy or shame. Listen. Like. Follow. Instagram: @the.spillway | Facebook: @WithoutSupremacyorShame For a transcript of this episode and more, please visit our website, https://www.thespillway.org/ (www.thespillway.org ) Mentioned in this episode: The Spillway Community Guidelines 1. Engage sequentially. The show is a serial not episodic. We do this so we can build relation and find common ground and context. 2. We stay in our own lane. The Spillway is about White people talking to (predominately) White people about White people and White culture. We're not out here to critique anyone's actions but our own. 3. Our combined fabric of destiny. (3a) As Dr. King said, our humanities are deeply interconnected to each other. Racism negatively impacts me, too. (3b) The Spillway is one mechanism within a larger framework needed to sustain racial equity and justice. We're not a one-stop shop. 4. No one right way to liberation. We all share the same goals, but not every method works for every person. If this doesn't work for you. That's okay. Maybe it works for someone else.

The thoughts will come and they'll turn to an emotion that could turn to action. But it's been like a-Ha, there it is, there's that thought, there's that feeling, there's that emotion. Either I like it, or I don't like it. I'm just gonna sit in it, and let it either pass or act on it. So I'm just more highly aware of my emotions through doing mindfulness practices. Thoughts on Breathing I've just got into breathwork and I have an amazing teacher, Rebecca Llewellyn, Shamanic Breathwork. So I actually experienced a full hour of breathwork. I never thought that was a thing until I got into it. Wow, the breath is powerful. So I like to think how one breath can make a difference in a moment that you're feeling so that you're in that fight, flight, or freeze state where something's going on. When your body's going into something, one big inhale can completely reset you physiologically. It just tells your body you're okay. So the breath is super powerful. There are different breath forms, of course, that I like to share with people in my ‘Breath of Fire' workshops, including circular breathing. The traditional ‘let's just breathe' is also great. I like to share the power of one breath, and how that can change your body. Suggested Resources Book: The Pocket Thich Nhat Hanh (Shambhala Pocket Classics) App: Insight Timer Bullying Story I personally haven't had a bullying experience. When I look back, I may have been a bit of a bully. The competitiveness was sort of part of me. When I look at my son, I can use him as an example. He's not in an actual bullying situation, but the mindfulness piece around awareness of self and the work I've done in schools with kids around mindfulness. I think it's good if we're just mindful and present and tapped into who we are. That authentic self, I think that's where the heart really shines, and we can't do that to somebody else. I think it's a bullying prevention mode. I don't think it's like, oh, I'm being bullied, I need to meditate. It's like if we can teach our children especially if we can get them to understand mindfulness and awareness of self and love for others, we can prevent bullying. Gastral Travelin' Super Fan; Alex Hillier comes on and joins the boys today. He talks the life of a professional boogie boarder. The boys go off the deep end sharing their love for Justin Vernon's music and it what it means to them. Nelson comes out as a sad boi, talking about the last time he cried. We talk about depression and facing "The Void." It actually gets kinda dark tbh. Nelson shares his ability to cut people off like it's nothing. Angel makes a crazy wild "Mountain Poutine" because he deems Bon Iver "Mountain Music." Everyone disagrees but uhh here we are. Regardless it was delicious.
