If you've ever thought, “My spouse will serve the whole world but not me,” you're not alone and you might be looking at a spiritual gift that's real, powerful, and mis-aimed. David and Tracy Sellers unpack how the Holy Spirit gives spiritual gifts for a purpose, not for status, and why the best place to see those gifts clearly is often the day-to-day life of a Christian marriage. We start with the big framework: salvation, the Great Commission, and the church as a team where the Spirit equips every believer. Then we get practical by focusing on supporting gifts that show up at home. We talk about the gift of service and how the same chore can either build closeness or breed resentment depending on attitude. We also ask two questions that cut through confusion: how can a gift show up negatively in marriage, and how can a spouse actively support growth in that gift? From there we move through mercy, encouragement (exhortation), teaching, and giving. Mercy can make a home feel safe, but it can also drain a spouse emotionally without good boundaries. Encouragers can strengthen faith, yet their correction can feel harsh without self-awareness and accountability. Teachers protect biblical truth, but they carry responsibility that requires real time in God's Word. And givers can bless others deeply, especially when stewardship and budgeting become a shared mission instead of a fight.Subscribe for the rest of the spiritual gifts series, share this with a couple who needs it, and leave a review with your answer: which spiritual gift most shapes your marriage right now?Support the showFor episode transcripts, click HERE.For more marriage encouragement, visit: www.VowsToKeep.com | V2K Blog | Marriage Counseling | Insta | FBApple Podcast listener? Who is the Holy Spirit, and what does it mean that He lives within us? In this message, we take a closer look at who the Holy Spirit is. Jesus describes the Holy Spirit as our Advocate, Helper, Counselor, Comforter, and Encourager. The Holy Spirit isn't simply a feeling, an experience, or an impersonal force. He is a person. The living presence of God with us and within us. Jesus promised that His followers would not be left as orphans, but would receive the Holy Spirit as God's gift to every believer.
Our gifts are to be used in ___________, to ___________ people, and ___________ them to Jesus. [Ephesians 4.11-12] Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. [12] Their responsibility is to equip God's people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. A pastor is a _______________ of people. [Acts 20.28] “So guard yourselves and God's people. Feed and shepherd God's flock—his church, purchased with his own blood—over which the Holy Spirit has appointed you as leaders. Shepherds _______________ their sheep. [1 Peter 5:2] Care for the flock that God has entrusted to you. Watch over it willingly, not grudgingly—not for what you will get out of it, but because you are eager to serve God. A pastor is one who _______________ for and _______________ the sheep. Pastors are always willing to _______________. [Proverbs 11.25] The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed. Encouragers give _______________ to others. [1 Thessalonians 5.11] So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing. God shows mercy to the __________________. [Colossians 3.12-14] Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. [13] Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. [14] Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. Pastors often find _______________ people comes naturally.

Why are so many sincere Christians feel spiritually exhausted despite knowing more about God than ever before? Have we unintentionally made the Christian life more complicated than Jesus intended? Have we lost the difference between knowing about God and experiencing God? Could this be why people who love God sometimes feel so far from Him? How do we rediscover intimacy with Christ and develop lifelong rhythms for spiritual growth and transformation? The answers to these questions and more as Allen Ratta takes us into his new book ‘Spiritual Simplicity.' Spiritual Simplicity Bruce T Davis Allen Ratta Allen Ratta is a pastor, author, speaker, and pioneer in Christian discipleship and spiritual formation. For more than two decades he has served as a lead pastor and ministry leader, helping people deepen their relationship with God and experience authentic spiritual transformation.Allen founded ConnectionPower, an innovative church networking platform that was later acquired by a NASDAQ company. He has trained church leaders across the nation, spoken at conferences and seminars, served in national ministry leadership, and published the PowerGrowth newsletter, which reached more than 67,000 subscribers. He is the author of Spiritual Simplicity: The Great Commandment, the Lord's Prayer, and the Way Home; The Way Home: A Daily Spiritual Simplicity Journal for Prayer and Intimacy; the Spiritual Simplicity Small Group Leader's Guide; Making Spiritual Progress (InterVarsity Press); The Optimized Church; and the inspirational novel The Encouragers.Allen's current focus is helping Christians move beyond spiritual busyness into a life of intimacy with God through a simple, biblical pathway rooted in Jesus' Great Commandment and the Lord's Prayer. His Spiritual Simplicity message is helping individuals and churches rediscover the joy, freedom, and transforming power of loving God wholeheartedly, loving others deeply, and abiding daily in Christ.Allen lives in Montana, where he continues to write, teach, speak, and equip believers to experience lasting spiritual renewal.Spiritual Simplicity: The Great Commandment, the Lord's Prayer, and the Way Home is a transformational discipleship resource designed to help Christians move beyond spiritual busyness, religious performance, and information overload into a deeper, more intimate relationship with God.Drawing from more than two decades of pastoral ministry and discipleship leadership, author Allen Ratta presents a simple yet powerful framework rooted in Jesus' two most foundational teachings: the Great Commandment and the Lord's Prayer. The book demonstrates how these teachings provide a practical pathway for spiritual growth, emotional healing, renewed intimacy with God, and lifelong transformation. At a time when many believers feel spiritually exhausted despite unprecedented access to Christian resources, Spiritual Simplicity offers a refreshing return to the heart of following Jesus—loving God wholeheartedly, loving others deeply, and learning to abide daily in Christ.Website
The Inspiring Life of an Encourager, Bishop Fraser Venter (9.23.26) by Sermons
Our spouse hears messages every day from the world—criticism, pressure, comparison, and doubt. But what if home became the place where they were reminded of who they are, what they're capable of, and how deeply they're loved? In this episode, Dr. Kim and Nancy talk about the power of encouragement in marriage and why your words carry more weight than anyone else's. They share personal stories from their own marriage, practical ways to encourage your spouse authentically, and how couples can replace patterns of criticism with a culture of support. Whether your marriage is thriving or you've fallen into a habit of negativity, this conversation will challenge you to become your spouse's greatest encourager. Quotes from this Episode: Dr. Kim "I don't care what anyone else thinks. Hearing your encouragement makes all the difference in the world." "When your spouse gets more encouragement from someone else than from you, there's a void in the marriage." "Your encouragement is meant to build your spouse up, not put them in the box you want them to fit in." "The more you become a student of your spouse, the more you'll know how to encourage them in ways that truly matter." "When I ask God to help me see you through His eyes, I'm flooded with good things to tell you." "When you see yourselves as a team, encouragement becomes part of how you do life together." Mrs. Nancy "Your spouse is the most important person in your life. What they say carries more weight than anyone else's words." "Sometimes we simply need our spouse to say, 'You can do this.' Those words can make all the difference." "Living in a fallen world makes negativity come naturally, but that's not how God designed our marriages." "Specific encouragement is powerful because it reminds your spouse of the unique gifts and strengths God has given them." "A look or a tone can discourage just as much as words." "When I pray for you, it changes my heart. It changes the way I see you." Time to Talk About it: When do you feel the most encouraged by me? What specific words or actions help you feel seen, valued, and believed in? Have criticism or negativity become a habit in any area of our marriage? What's one intentional way we can replace those patterns with encouragement this week? Greg Davis welcomes Pastor Tim Anderson, longtime pastor of Clements Baptist Church and now Executive Director of the International Congress on Revival (ICR), for a conversation about caring for those who care for others. Tim shares how ICR is ministering to pastors and their wives across the United States and around the world, offering biblical encouragement, spiritual renewal, and lasting relationships for leaders serving on the front lines of ministry. They also discuss the challenges pastors face today, the need for revival in the church, and preview ICR's upcoming one-day Stateside Pastor Conference on August 13 at Lindsay Lane Baptist Church in Athens, Alabama. Whether you're a pastor, church leader, or church member looking to support your pastor, this conversation is a timely reminder that a healthy church begins with spiritually healthy leaders.

A few sincere words of encouragement can give someone the strength and confidence to keep going.
In a world where negativity and criticism seem to dominate the airwaves, it's refreshing to talk about a superpower that can change the game: encouragement. This week on the podcast, the speaker explores the importance of being an encourager, and how it can have a profound impact on those around us.Encouragement is not just a feel-good concept; it's a powerful tool that can actually change the way we think and behave. The speaker delves into the science behind encouragement, citing studies that show how positive words can boost our mood, reduce anxiety, and even improve our physical health. But it's not just about us; encouragement can also have a profound impact on those around us, from our families to our communities. The speaker shares personal anecdotes and biblical teachings that highlight the importance of encouragement, including the story of the two frogs who were stuck in a pit and how the power of positive words helped them escape. They also discuss the concept of "encouragement as a habit" and how it can become a natural part of our daily lives. With the help of a special guest, Eric McClanahan, the speaker explores the challenges of being an encourager, including the tendency to focus on our own flaws and the importance of receiving encouragement ourselves. So, what can you do to become a more encouraging person? The speaker offers practical tips and insights, including the idea that encouragement is a choice and that we can make a difference by speaking positive words to those around us. Join the conversation and discover the power of encouragement for yourself.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

I believe every believer has a ministry. Don't overlook the importance of being an encourager. It costs you nothing but your love, your kindness, and your time.Main Points:1. Have you ever had an encourager in your life, someone that whenever you were around them, you found your spirit lifted? This is the kind of person I want to be. I want to be an encourager. 2. You never know the impact of your kindness, your love, and your words of encouragement. I believe people around you today are desperate for encouragement. Everyone around you is fighting a battle you know nothing about. What a difference you could make in someone's life by encouraging them to trust the Lord, to keep believing, and not to give up.3. What a difference you could make by encouraging someone to obey God, to step out in faith, and to let God use their lives.Today's Scripture Verses:1 Thessalonians 5:11 - “encourage one another and build each other up.”Hebrews 10:24-25 - “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”Quick Links:Donate to support this podcastLeave a review on Apple PodcastsGet a copy of The 5 Minute Discipleship JournalConnect on SocialJoin The 5 Minute Discipleship Facebook Group

The world has plenty of critics already.” - Dave Willis. I may have shared something close to this quote in the past, but I know I needed to share it today for sure. All of us need to look to encourage others AND ourselves. There are so many critics out there, but their feedback to others doesn't even come close to what the world needs. Short and sweet my friends. Thanks for listening. Proverbs 12:25
This week in our series, Shapes & Sizes, we look at the life of Barnabas, a man known as the “son of encouragement.” Through his relationships with Saul, the Gentile believers in Antioch, and the early church, we'll see what it looks like to recognize the grace of God in others and help people flourish in their calling.Join us as we explore how faithful followers of Jesus are called not only to receive grace, but to become people who rejoice in it, make room for it, and encourage it in others.
In this episode, Dr. Charles Stanley reveals ten qualities that make God our ultimate encourager. Be reminded of His faithfulness and how He lifts you up, even when you feel undeserving. What if the most important decision you ever make isn't about your career, your goals, or your next move — but about who you let close enough to speak into your life? EPISODE OVERVIEW In this episode, BRI and PAC dig into the Dream Team chapter from PAC's book Magnum Opus: The Art of Becoming One of One — a deeply practical, architectural look at the five people every person needs in their corner to actually become who they're meant to be. This isn't a conversation about having friends. It's a conversation about building a board. And the difference between those two things might be exactly what's been missing. KEY THEMES EXPLORED Why hyper-individualism is a lie we've been sold — the best leaders are built in community, not in isolation Proximity breeds intimacy: why online mentors and thought leaders can't replace people who actually know you The five Dream Team archetypes: The Encourager, The Truth Teller, The Covenant Friend, The Specialist, and The Wise Sage What it really means to have a Covenant Friend — someone who doesn't love your potential, they love your person The difference between knowledge and wisdom — and why you need a Wise Sage who gives generously without needing credit Why you can predict someone's future by who has access into their life — and what that means for the relationships you're maintaining right now Dating apps, courage, and what in-person vulnerability has to do with the kind of person you're becoming WHY IT MATTERS You can't become one of one in isolation. Every masterpiece is shaped by the hands that had access to it. The people you let into your life aren't just your support system — they are actively shaping your ceiling. This episode gives you the language and the framework to audit your circle, fill the gaps, and start showing up as the kind of person worth having on someone else's Dream Team. CLOSING INVITATION Your Dream Team isn't just a list — it's a mirror. Adrian and Bri don't just describe these archetypes. They name them, challenge you, and make you feel every gap. If this episode made you think about someone specific — reach out to them this week. That's the whole point. New episodes of the New Rules Podcast drop every Wednesday. Don't miss one.
The Amazing Power of an Encourager by Bob Skelton https://www.amazon.com/Amazing-Power-Encourager-Tongue-Powerful/dp/B0DWVLPCNJ Encouragers make things happen, Discouragers watch things happen, The rest stand around wondering WHAT HAPPENED? All in all, this powerful book has the potential to touch every generation and people of all backgrounds. In fact, if someone reads this book and doesn’t have several “aha moments,” then there is definitely a problem because reading it opens up the fact that it is possible to positively change the world through encouragement. Little things can make a big difference!

Never doubt God's mighty power to work in you to accomplish the dreams you have. Seek His best for you, as the passion to do what pleases Him will become your greatest desire. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you. Listen intently. Seek and find the wisdom that comes from our heavenly Father. Do you ever doubt your purpose in life, especially when facing different or difficult seasons? And what do you do to help you live fully in God's presence? Today I‘m delighted to be speaking to, Peg Arnold—a Christian speaker and author and encourager—and self-confessed drama queen—who speaks to the many different seasons women walk through: joy, loss, struggle, and waiting. Some gems from our conversation and for your encouragement: I like to say I'm never retired, just repurposed. When facing the unknown, God spoke to me: "What makes you think that I don't have everything prepared for you in the days and years ahead?" When disappointed with circumstances, it helps me to have friends who remind me that God may have a different perspective than I am seeing right now. We have a choice to stay stuck in our anger and bitterness or choose instead to trust that God knows what he's doing and will bring good from whatever it is. When your heart is broken it's a lonely place to be but it doesn't mean that God is not there with you and your broken heart. Go to the Psalms and weave your painful story into David's lament. God is not afraid of our pain. My legacy is to share with others that God loves them, delights in them, and has a purpose for their lives. Two of her books are Devotions for the Distracted Heart and Making Your Message Memorable and can be found on Amazon or her website: PegArnold.org. She's walked through loss and change and through each season found God and his Word to be her constant source of identity and joy. Be sure to access her free prayer guide here: Make Your Prayers Meaningful https://dashboard.mailerlite.com/forms/752930/109370258823840924/share ~~ I have a new book! Check it out HERE MOST DAYS, LIFE ISN'T PERFECT I wrote this book for everyone who has felt the pain of being alone because I have felt its sting even surrounded by wonderful people. We're created for relationship, with God and with one another—not because life becomes perfect when we have both God and community. That's not the point. No, it's because most days, life isn't perfect. And remembering we are loved and not alone is what gets us through those days. READ MORE HERE
