In this episode of "The Rational Egoist," host Michael Leibowitz engages in a thought-provoking conversation with the distinguished Mike ter Maat, a leading candidate for the Libertarian Party's Presidential nomination. Together, they delve into the intricate realm of individual rights, autonomy, and rational decision-making.The dialogue commences with a fundamental inquiry: Does the government hold any legitimate authority to make decisions on behalf of individuals? Mike argues that, even in a hypothetical scenario where the government exhibits unerring competence, it still lacks the moral standing to make choices for individuals. He underscores the sanctity of individual free will and autonomy, asserting that people inherently possess the right to make their own decisions, even when those choices are deemed incorrect. Furthermore, they discuss the imperative of allowing individuals to learn from the consequences of their decisions without government intervention. The conversation then pivots to the contentious topic of intellectual property within a laissez-faire capitalist system. While some advocate for the abolition of intellectual property protections to thwart monopolies, Michael and Mike ter Maat meticulously examine this notion. They contend that intellectual property constitutes valid property deserving legal safeguarding. They emphasize the importance of upholding the intellectual property rights of individuals who invest time and effort in creating intellectual assets.Join us for this enlightening episode as Michael Leibowitz engages in a profound exploration of individual rights, personal autonomy, and rational self-interest with his guest, Mike ter Maat, on "The Rational Egoist Podcast." Michael Leibowitz is a renowned philosopher, political activist, and the esteemed host of the Rational Egoist podcast. Inspired by the philosophical teachings of Ayn Rand, Leibowitz passionately champions the principles of reason, rational self-interest, and individualism, seeking to empower others through his compelling work. His life's narrative exemplifies the transformative power of Ayn Rand's writings. Having faced challenging circumstances that led to a 25-year prison sentence, Leibowitz emerged from adversity by embracing the tenets of rational self-interest and moral philosophy put forth by Ayn Rand. This profound transformation propelled him to become an influential figure in the libertarian and Objectivist communities, motivating others to adopt reason, individualism, and self-interest in their own lives. Beyond his impactful podcasting endeavors, Leibowitz fearlessly engages in lively political debates, advocating for the protection of individual rights and freedoms through compelling YouTube videos and insightful interviews. His unwavering commitment to these ideals has garnered him a dedicated following of like-minded individuals.Leibowitz is a versatile author, co-authoring the thought-provoking book titled "Down the Rabbit Hole: How the Culture of Correction Encourages Crime." This groundbreaking work delves into societal attitudes surrounding punishment and rehabilitation, shedding light on how misguided approaches have contributed to the rise of crime and recidivism. Additionally, he has authored the book "View from a Cage: From Convict to Crusader for Liberty," offering an intimate portrayal of his personal journey while exploring the philosophies that influenced his transformation. For a deeper exploration of his ideas and insights, don't miss the opportunity to read "Down the Rabbit Hole: How the Culture of Correction Encourages Crime," co-authored by Michael Leibowitz. On this show we sat down with Mike ter Maat, former White House Economist, who is seeking the nomination for President in the Libertarian Party. We had a really good conversation on this one, honestly one of our best political talks to date. He's certainly not your cookie cutter, prepared answers, stuffy kind of person seeking political office. He is sharp, knowledgable, and has a solid resume in economics, education, and law enforcement. Today On Categorical Imperatives I take a look at the insanity of Trump and his increasingly unhinged base of supporters who cannot accept the fact that he lost the election and their desperate straw-grasping for any hope and pearl clutching schemes. But at this point there is really only one possible outcome. Trump is going to continue down the same hilarious path of denial and delusion that Hillary did in 2016, and even if he did succeed, as I point out at the beginning of the episode, then he will have provided me with a full-proof way..... or maybe more accurately a fool-proof way, for me to get the 2024 Libertarian Party Presidential candidate elected. I explain precisely how that is, then join me to share a laugh at some of the most ridiculous delusional scheming to keep Trump in power in a video from Doug Tennaple, followed by a more serious back-half of the episode where I read a great article from Rob Natelson that was posted over at the Tenth Amendment Center today talking about how the president could have used fraud and irregularities to his advantage had he adnd his supporters actually understood the law and the Constitution a little better and I close out the show reading from an article I wrote for Reason's legal blog that should be available online tomorrow. Is John McAfee's death conspiracy theory the REAL distraction? Was John's death his final troll? This week's podcast is a conversation from a live interview Jason Bassler did with Judd Weiss during the John McAfee memorial in Los Angeles. Judd Weiss was John McAfee's Vice Presidential Candidate during his Libertarian Party Presidential campaign in both 2016 and 2020. Judd shares how John would spend all night thinking of ways to troll the media, the hilarious advice he gave him as his running mate, the one time he asked John to take down a Facebook post, character assassination, paranoia, and sabotage in the world of politics while on the campaign trail. Judd also shared his thoughts on the current Libertarian Party and how it's a "dog kennel," the Mises caucus and how all attempts for politics ends up creating more conflict. We also touched on the California cannabis scene, which Judd has a business in and how statist "legalization" activists corrupted the local industry. We ended with final thoughts about the late great Mr McAfee.
The most interesting part of the Libertarian Party Presidential ticket this past year was not the top of the ticket. Spike Cohen, the LP's VP candidate was a candidate we can get behind. His activism and clear Libertarian principles united many within the party. In this special edition of The Evolution of the Revolution, we ask what his plans for the future are. Will he run for president? How can he unite the Audacious Caucus and the Mises Caucus? And most importantly, can he get Marcus, Chad, and Nicco to vote Libertarian? That's a question I get asked often. You can be an activist, an entrepreneur, a media personality, or politics. That's why I decided to become a member of the largest pro-liberty party in the United States, the Libertarian Party. I started my show with the goals to educate, enlighten, and inform, while also advancing the principles of liberty. The LP is the largest political party in America that, at its core principles, embraces the values of individual liberty, property rights, and non-aggression. The other two major parties have embraced tribal warfare versus principled debate. It's time we stop feeding the beast and put our money where out mouths are. That means putting petty bickering and nonsensical arguments aside and actually advancing liberty. The LP, like every political party, has its flaws. But instead of focusing on those flaws and tossing stones from the cheap seats, it's time we take personal responsibility (like we promote on a regular basis) and take some responsibility in making the LP the best it can be. Welcome back, folks! I hope you all enjoyed last week's episode with Libertarian Party Presidential candidate Jacob Hornberger (I know I certainly did!). Keeping up with phenomenal guests, I am today joined by Ammo.com's Lead Writer and Chief Historian, Sam Jacobs! Sam joins the show today to discuss one of his recent article over at Ammo.com, titled "Deplatformed: How Big Tech Companies & Corporate America Subvert the Second Amendment". Sam, a self identified "Jacksonian-Conservative", takes a different approach to the tech censorship and deplatforming that has taken place in the past few years when compared to the traditional libertarian's perspective. Listen as Sam and I have a fun back-and-forth discussion where we volley our differing takes to one another, leaving the conversation on a solid ground of understanding each other's position, and more importantly, that we were able to find some, gasp, COMMON GROUND! Read Sam's Article: https://ammo.com/articles/deplatformed-big-tech-companies-subvert-second-amendment-social-media-guns Find Sam Online: https://ammo.com/our-team#sam-jacobs Some More Awesome Articles!: https://ammo.com/articles/founding-fathers-quotes-central-banking-americas-economy https://ammo.com/articles/founding-fathers-quotes-second-amendment-guns-keep-and-bear-arms The Ammo.com Podcast: https://ammo.com/podcast Ammo.com's Twitter: twitter.com/ammodotcom/ Sam's Bio: Sam Jacobs grew up in Southern New England, probably the part of the country with the weakest gun culture. However, from a young age he believed firmly in the right of self defense and the right to keep and bear arms. This, coupled with 12 years of education in public schools and an argumentative nature, meant that he was frequently getting into debates with his teachers about the virtue of the Second Amendment. A precocious student of history and the Constitution, Jacobs became interested in both the practice of armed self defense throughout history as well as the philosophical underpinnings of the Second Amendment. Jacobs has an affinity for the individual and the common man against centralized forms of power and elites, whether they be in the government or the private sector. In particular, he is interested in the ways in which private companies work to subvert the legislative process and to undermine American freedoms outside of normal legal channels. He considers the resolution of how corporate power can hem in Constitutional freedoms to be the most pressing political question of our age. The private sector and the public sector are increasingly indistinguishable from one another, both because of behind-the-scenes corporate chicanery that undermines the legislative process and because private companies are rapidly becoming far more powerful than the federal government. Thus, it is more important than ever to both fight the incursion of private companies into our government and to become independent and self-reliant enough to make it difficult for private companies to hem in your rights. So Sam believes. Jacobs is the lead writer and chief historian with Ammo.com, and is the driving intellectual force behind the content in the Resistance Library. He is proud to see his work name-checked in places like Bloomberg, USA Today and National Review, but he is far more proud to see his work republished on websites like ZeroHedge, Lew Rockwell and Sons of Liberty Media. How many firearms does Sam own and what's his everyday carry? That's between him and the NSA. Support The Brian Nichols Show Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Episode 100 is here! Not only do we have a new intro song to debut, but we're also joined by and incredible guest! Today, I am joined by Libertarian Party presidential nominee/Mises Caucus endorsed candidate... the great Jacob Hornberger! Jacob joins the show to outlines how he would carry the libertarian message forward in the general election and why he would be the best choice to be that messenger. And as an aside... thank you to each of you amazing members of the audience. Without your love, support, and encouragement, Episode 100 would never have happened. Here's to the next 100 episodes of educating, enlightening, and informing! Bio: https://jacobforliberty.com/about-jacob-hornberger/ Website: https://jacobforliberty.com Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Hornberger2020/ Twitter: https://twitter.com/JacobforLiberty Sponsored By: The Libertarian Party: What's the best way to advance liberty? It is Presidential Primary season in America with the Democrat party taking center stage to find out who will be running against President Trump in 2020, but there is currently a presidential primary race afoot for the third largest party in America, the Libertarian Party. Libertarians believe that the government should have minimal interference in the lives and finances of its citizens. The cryptocurrency community believes in a monetary system free from centralized oversight, with decisions driven by the masses rather than government. They say Bitcoin only really took off in valuation when it was heavily invested by Libertarian Party Followers. Welcome back, folks! For those of you new listeners joining us, thanks for taking some time to listen to today's episode of The Brian Nichols Show! Today's episode sticks true to one of the main principles we maintain here at The Brian Nichols Show- talking to people we don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with and trying to find areas of understanding or agreement. I've been very vocal in my opposition to the tactics that today's guest, Arvin Vohra, utilized during his tenure as vice-chair of the Libertarian Party. I even went as far to spend an entire episode tackling each of his controversial statements and gave my best argument as to why I believe that hyperbolic and controversial marketing is not helpful in recruiting more people to the Libertarian Party and the greater liberty movement. With that being said, Arvin came on the show to not only promote his candidacy (Arvin is running to be the Libertarian Party candidate for the 2020 POTUS election), but to answer some of the tough questions I had in regards to his past controversial statements. Listen as Arvin discusses his candidacy, his approach to marketing liberty, and his vision for the libertarian movement. John McAfee is on the run again... from authorities and for president. What's in the News with stories on buying guns with buy-back money, voluntary conservationism, judicial mobile phone protection, Bill Weld, universal home visits for newborns, and secession. And Yet Another Bad Cop on a bit of justice while protecting the thin blue line. WHAT'S RUSTLING MY JIMMIES John McAfee, who sought the Libertarian Party Presidential nomination in 2016, is on the run from authorities... again. This time, he says a grand jury in Tennessee has charged him with felonies due to his not paying taxes to the Internal Revenue Service for 8 years, nor has he filed any returns. McAfee is now fleeing the United States on a boat and is adamant that he will conduct his presidential campaign in exile. WHAT'S IN THE NEWS In not all heroes wear capes news, a Missouri man sold his firearms made out of scrap metal and garbage to a gun buy-back program… and then used the money to buy a real gun. In voluntaryism news, the creator of the online video game Fortnite, Tim Sweeney has made good on his promise to protect undeveloped and bio-diverse land in the picturesque western Carolina mountains for future generations. In even a broken watch news, a California judge has ruled that American cops can't force people to unlock a mobile phone with their face or finger. The ruling goes further to protect people's private lives from government searches than any before and is being hailed as a potential landmark decision. In OG Libertarian news, former Gov. William F. Weld is heading to New Hampshire soon and don't count him out of the 2020 mix — either as a Libertarian or a Republican. In cradle to grave news, if Oregon Governor Kate Brown has her way, the Beaver State will become the first to require universal home visits for newborn children in the care of their own parents. In secession news, there is a very real chance that New York State may split from New York City. AND YET ANOTHER BAD COP As happens every once in a while, there is a ton of news in a single week showing a bevy of bad cops. This week, though, there is a case that was a big surprise to me, as it shows a cop actually getting his just deserts for murdering a man. That's pretty rare and great to see. However, three other got away scot-free for defending the thin blue line.
Show Summary: On this episode, Johnny plays on the Ruff! This week we interview Libertarian Party Presidential candidate Kimberly Ruff! Kim’s wicked sense of humor is dark, witty and bold, which had Johnny and Raylene in stitches. Get to know Kimberly Ruff and John Phillips 2020. Support The Show at PATREON About The Guest: Kimberly Ruff is a Libertarian Party activist. She established the Niagara County Libertarian Party in 2015, following a previously proposed western New York chapter. Kim was a Member of the LPNY Media and Communications Committee. At the same time she graduated from ASU, she began volunteering with the Arizona and Maricopa County Libertarian Parties. Her first assignments were to solicit content, layout, edit, and disburse their now-defunct AZLP newsletter, an experience that brought her into contact with quite a few wonderful political minds in both Arizona and nationally, including Libertarian Party co-founder, David Nolan. From there, she worked as the Campaign Manager for Nick Coons, Congressional Candidate for CD9 in his bid to unseat Democratic incumbent, Harry Mitchell, and co-hosting Liberty on the Rocks’ Phoenix Chapter from 2010 – 2012. , she reached out to the Libertarian Party of New York and immediately set to work on networking with fellow Libertarians in her country to establish, with the aid of the LPNY and Erie County Libertarian Party founder, Ed Garrett, the Niagara County Libertarian Party in 2015, participating in the Communications and Bylaws Committees in the run up to their 2016 State Convention, and getting tapped to be a delegate for NY at the 2016 National Convention. 2017 was a somewhat quiet year, as she changed careers to work as an Operations Director for a custom metal and plastic fabrication plant in Phoenix and focused her energy on that, but she continued to participate – albeit minimally – as a member of the LP Bylaws Committee leading up to their 2018 National Convention. Schedule and finances precluded her participation in the National Convention, but hearing how wonderful the experience was for so many of her beloved friends and colleagues, Kim immediately returned to her role as Arizona State Coordinator for the LPRC and was elected Vice Chair of the same caucus that June. About The Host: Johnny “Rocket” Adams was the creator and host of “The Johnny Rocket Launch Pad – Libertarian Rock n’ Roll Experience” and now “BLAST OFF with Johnny Rocket!” He’s also a musician, graphic artist, author, and former Chief Warrant Officer.
