In this episode of Manufacturing an American Century, Matt chats with Mark Whitney, a retired U.S. Navy Admiral and now the Executive Director of the Virginia Digital Maritime Center at Old Dominion University. Mark talks about his transition from a 34-year naval career to leading efforts in modernizing Virginia's maritime industry in Hampton Roads. Matt and Mark dive into the hurdles that small and medium-sized businesses face in the defense sector, especially when securing steady contracts and navigating the complexities of the defense industrial base. Mark also highlights the importance of developing the workforce and adopting new technologies to keep the industry competitive, as AMCC experienced during its 2023 Virginia Roadshow. Mark's reflections are aligned with what we are seeing around the nation that crucial strategic planning and collaboration are needed for strengthening the U.S. defense industrial base. A clear message appears in our conversation: it will take a collective impact approach to keep American manufacturing strong in a rapidly changing world. Thanks again to Mark for joining for an excellent discussion!AMCC's podcast is made possible in part by the expertise of Mike McAllen, founder of Podcasting4Associations. Happy hump day! Enjoy a bonus midweek episode on us. Today's episode is our conversation with former presidential candidate for the Libertarian Party, Mark Whitney. This episode was recorded in advance and unfortunately, Mark suspended his campaign before I got around to releasing the conversation. Had I released it before then, perhaps he'd still be with us. Who knows? I do. That's false. Anyway, regardless of whether he's still in the race, I thought it was an enjoyable discussion with a lot of good insight and information from Mark, so I decided to still give it to you. You're welcome.  During his campaign, Mark came to be known as the brash candidate who wasn't afraid to step on some toes and use some "potty words" to get your attention. As a former felon and comedian, he brought a lot of fun and color to the debate stage as he pushed strongly with his message heavy on criminal justice reform.  Was his crassness and toe-stepping all an act? Is Mark Whitney just a big ol' asshole? And my oh my, what did such a polite young man do to end up in federal prison? Find out now on today's bonus episode of The System is Down #164: Making Waves vs Making Friends in Politics w. (former) Presidential Candidate, Mark Whitney Question Everything. Stay Uncomfortable. It goes without saying that we are living in unprecedented times. Leading up to a presidential election and being told to stay in our homes due to a pandemic quarantine has forced us all to live life very differently than we typically would. Because of this, all of the Libertarian conventions and campaign tours have come to a sudden screeching halt. With basically all LP debates being cancelled and candidates having far less abilities to get their names and their messages out to the people who need to hear them, I saw a hole and decided to fill it. Today's episode is our full panel 12 candidate digital 2020 presidential debate for Libertarian Party candidates. This debate was live streamed on our Facebook page on 04.24.2020 and has since received over 10,000 views and climbing. People WANT to hear what these men have to say. People WANT to hear from their options. This episode is the condensed version of that debate. The only things that were edited out are the discussions during intermissions and the AfterParty Q&A discussion, which will be made available to members of The Downers Club at Patreon.com/thesystemisdown. Let's do what the mainstream media refuses to do and help these candidates' messages of liberty be heard.  Participating candidates in this debate were: Arvin Vohra, Jacob Hornberger, Judge Jim Gray, Adam Kokesh, John McAfee, Vermin Supreme, Dan "Taxation is Theft" Behrman, Ken Armstrong, John Monds, Sam Robb, Andy Williams Jr, and Kenneth Blevins. Mark Whitney was also scheduled to attend, but suspended his campaign shortly before the debate. I would HIGHLY encourage everyone to look into these candidates, find out what they stand for and why, and know that you DO have more options than the two bad ones that we're given. Visit LP.org for more information on the Libertarian Party and their platform. Question Everything. Stay Uncomfortable. This week we have on Mark Whitney, who's running for the Libertarian Party nomination for the Presidency. Mark gives us the scoop on what happened at the LPF Convention and offers Floridians an apology. Do you want a President who apologizes? How about a President who doesn't even have a 'taxation is theft' hat? Does he even own a single boot? With such slim credentials, the outlook of Whitney's campaign is looking pretty grim, but we give him plenty of space to explain his position of a variety of topics and get his opinion on our stand-up bits (which as it turns out is very easy by the way).  All that and more on this week's episode of Burning Boots! So the burning question this week: is hard work is a virtue? A red-blooded, dirt under the nails type guy defends that it is, whilst being verbally assaulted by lazy, free loading, soy boys awaiting their daily milking at the soy farm. It may be the type of torture akin to waterboarding a rubber chicken, however it can't be as bad as free range, open air prisons... or can it? Don't think too hard on it, because the Burning Boots boys sure didn't. There is a special guest that sells weed, and another special guest that grows it for the favorite of the three. Big thank you to C. Michael Pickens, the campaign manager for libertarian presidential candidate Mark Whitney. He really helped Davie, Kyle, and Derek recollect the weekend at the LPF convention, which was just old men yelling at Davie, and smoking J's with the kids at the pool (except Arvin). Look, it’s not every day that you get to talk to someone who is registered to be on the ballot as a presidential hopeful in 2020, and you have to hop on each one of these types of opportunities. Does it help that Mark Whitney is also a comedian? Well… maybe. Mark Whitney is, in fact, running for President in 2020. This is not a joke, he is serious, and I think it is wonderful that we could get a chance to hear someone like Mark debate the other two candidates on a national level. Mark has experiences, from starting as an Electrolux Vacuum salesman to becoming a Ben & Jerry’s kingpin, to losing it all and landing in prison which set him up to come back and start a very successful law website… this story has to be heard to be believed! This week on Thought Cops, we're joined by Jake Jacobson, formerly Mark Whitney of the former American Tribune, currently the curator of the This is an Interesting Political Compass page on Facebook. He's here to help promote our joint venture NARUTO RUN AROUND EVERY TRUMP TOWER (IN THE WORLD), an event you should definitely check-in to and invite all your friends to. iTunes: Listen, subscribe, leave a review Support the show on Patreon Field Notes This week, we're taking down one of the biggest culprits to all of the ills of society: Science. I fucking hate it! Followed up by digging up dead people like George Carlin to help us win political arguments for us. And we finally tackle the problem of poor men making less money than women and how that's somehow a microaggression against women because now they have to marry some poor schmuck that makes less money than them. Gotta blame someone for... poverty, I guess. Also, you can go ahead and throw away your Halloween costume, because apparently Halloween is CANCELLED. And make sure to throw out your husband and your trans child, because according to Hillary Clinton, that's basically the same thing. Although according to this article she didn't so what the fuck do I know. Like comment and subscribe, citizen. SATIRE WARNING, because it's another episode of THOUGHT COPS! This week, we're joined by the infamous Mark Whitney, reporter for The American Tribune. He speaks to us briefly about the Naruto Run Around Trump Tower Event we were at, a followup event of similar nature that he's planning, and the state of modern satire in general. You can follow him and his work here. Definitely the most noteworthy interview we've done to date, and a lot of interesting things were discussed, so please take a listen. This episode we also play 4 voicemails we got over the past week. You can leave us a voicemail about the show at 312-788-7361. Make sure to listen past the outtro music this episode. BUT THIS WEEK: a congressman comes out as a furry. Key and Peele of the hit comedy sketch show "Key and Peele" make a new show about punching Nazis. Sean Spicer shows up at the Emmy's and causes a media ruckus. Piers Morgan thinks white people should be able to say the n-word, which really shouldn't surprise anyone. Plus former Google engineer James Damore thinks people want to join the KKK because being a Grand Wizard "sounds pretty cool." This week's episode is brought to you by the word "dotard." As in: "covfefe dotard." LOOK IT UP. All this and more in Episode 33 of THOUGHT COPS!

Evan and Mark Whitney discuss Buster Keaton's 1924 silent comedy Sherlock Jr (this mostly means poor attempts to describe gags from the movie). They also talk about artistic rivalry, ancient special effects, and have some Old Man Moments. These kids today don't know what they're missing.
