Here it is our 19th podcast with Mark Morris ! Mark is in the music game for several years and has been releasing such a bunch of quality Techno tracks. Everything started back in 2007 with a very first release and that never stopped till now with great labels crossed on his path such as M_Rec, CLR , DROID , Kombination research , Naked Lunch or more recently Starkstrom Schallplatten. But these last years and even more in 2013, Mark mainly focused on his own imprint, Ketra Records. He created the label back in 2009 and he’s now releasing most of his music on it. He has just released what we can call a huge album containing 33 tracks. Seems to be a lot even too much but every track is great and all of them together get to make it a very interesting cutting edge Techno project. As a DJ Mark Morris performed at many great venues in Europe such as the infamous Tresor Club , Stattbad (where he worked as Art Director STATTMEDIA) , Arena , M-Bia (as promoter w Aschenbescher Fur Menschen) , Kantine am Berghain in Berlin and in South America where he has been touring Colombia and Argentina and Chile (as promoter w zerotwonine chile) when he used to live there for a period from December 2012 to July 2013. Mark is now back in Europe and lives in his own town Naples where he constantly works on MANIFESTO RAW CULTURE his own project of parties/label with Logotech & Future 16. Press play & enjoy ! Another week, another amazing podcast. We have not left Italy yet because they keep pushing out good quality techno. Our guest for this episode is as you might think from Italy. This time we are presenting Logotech (@logotech). For this episode you will be hearing a combination of old and new tracks mixed with an edge! We can describe it mildly like this: “Rhythm increases tension while it is moving forward unchallenged through syncopated melodies, hypnotic percussions and building grooves”. In simple words: This will blow your mind and give you amnesia for a minute or two. Q&A 1. What's the story behind your DJ name "Logotech" ? Well the name Logotech cames from a fusion between 2 words: the first is logo that mean tongue/speaking/language in ancient greek. The second word is, obviously, techno! And that's what I am, a guy that speak techno. I've thought about this name when I was 18, then I started to make releases and playing in local parties so from then until now Logotech became my second, and in many cases my first, name. 2. When was the first time you experienced techno, and how did it feel? I've introduced myself in techno world when I was really young. I used to listen an italian techno radio show around 2000 and step by step I get into it. I was very young when I get my first approach with techno but for the first moment I've fallen in love with it and became my purpose. So I started to produce first but for some years I was far from sound I really feel: It was a long journey through a lot of influences and many years of practicing. I've learned everything by myself and I'm really proud about. I am on the way I wished to be and this is great. 3. What are top 3 techno names in the underground scene today? Talking about underground today is an hard topic to me. Today this word is overused and it loss the meaning in my opinion. Anyway about artist I respect there is a long list of names that grows day by day. There is a lot of interesting music that's coming out nowadays. Of course I have a lot of respect for my friends and partners in various projects Mark Morris & Future 16, we have all the same passion and love for music and techno and we are friends since we were teens so we grew up together with same goals, dreams and we still share these feelings. Some other names I want to do are again from the south of Italy: The first in my opinion is the man, Raffaele Attanasio. Without any doubts is one of best producers and live performers I ever heard! The last name is 2030 aka Kalean, he is making some of the most beautiful tunes I've listened in this 15 years of techno. His album on CLFT is an all time masterpiece! 4. Productions/mixes coming up? I'm finishing an EP for Ketra Records. I'm working as Alpha Code on next Zeitgeist Schallplatten (my own project on Bandcamp) and I Have to make a couple of remixes for the next time. About mixes I'll be in 12h no-stop party next 25/10 here in Italy, I'm sure we'll enjoy it! 5. Any extra words or emotions you want to spread to the world? I'm a kind of lone wolf. I like to share emotions with a lot of people but I prefer to do it while I'm on a consolle and these people are dancing all together! Our guest for this week is none other than Mark Morris(@mark_morris). Originally from Naples, Italy, Mark is now based in the capital city for techno, namely Berlin. Mark had an early debut with music and has kept a certain standard to his work ever since. He is the head of his own label Ketra Records which can be held responsible for releasing mindblowing EP’s from various artist. In this episode we can expect a “No Bullshit” approach to a raw techno sound interestingly mixed together. Q&A: Q: How has the techno scene in Italy influenced you as a Dj and producer A: The techno scene in my town was always one of the most active in Italy. When I was young, artists such Marco Carola, Gaetek, Rino Cerrone and many more were the best techno djs in the scene and they influenced of course my idea of techno music. Q: What made you decide to move to Berlin? A: I decide to move in Berlin after living in Spain. Berlin was the last step for me to really understand the techno world. Berlin helped me to find the right way in my sound. This was one of the most important moments of my career. Q: In this mix you are running the tempo at 135 bpm, which is some what unorthodox. How would you describe your style of playing? A: As I mentioned, my techno vision is influenced by the old school. I love to mix hardtechno as I love the industrial way and the dark atmosphere. That's more or less the best description of my sound: fast, dance-floor, heavy & dark. Q: What inspires you as a producer? A: As producer I'm really complicated. Normally I don't like to have inspiration as other producers. I Love for sure artists such Surgeon and Regis, but maybe the best inspiration for me are my own artists as Logotech, Future 16, Unam Zetineb and my wife Kata Mercado. I think the best inspiration come from those who are close to me. Q: Any comments about upcoming gigs or releases? A: For sure the last EP on Mano Recordings (label by me & Zetineb) with the remixes from the legendary ESPLENDOR GEOMETRICO & CASUAL VIOLENCE. This is one of the best releases I have done so far. I will soon be out with the next Mano with a remix by ONTAL. The next gigs are a b2b with Kata in Bologna (Italy). I also have a new project I started with my collab. Logotech & Future 16 with parties in our own town Naples. It was through his long-time friend and present-day partner DJ DonDario that Michel got to know the sound label “Lost”. He was so enthusiastic about it that he started to promote the label attending every event. He gained a lot of experience through “Lost”, also with the help of different artists within the minimal techno scene. He had laid a solid foundation on which he started practicing. Eventually, Michel did his first gig in the Hattrick Bar in Liestal in 2006. He continued developing new ways, improved his music and finally created his own style. On weekends he regularly performed his after-hour sets in the Bora Bora Bar in Liestal. It was that time when he gained his first big fans. Further gigs followed at various venues. In 2012 many things happened. In January Michel announced his comeback and joined the label “Lost”. In March he did his first gig under his new name DJ Doryan Hell in the Borderline Club in Basel. Logotech (I) - NightVision Techno PODCAST 19 Pt. 2 Bio: Since he started a personal and dynamic path through the electronic music world, Logotech's sounds had assumed a strongly introspective nature. Reverbered spaces, distorted breaks, hypnotic melodies and random interferences mould his music to reconsider the old school techno paradigms in something connected wit h his mind. This concept is also reflected in his sets, where rhythm increases tension while it is moving forward unchallenged through sincopate melodies, hypnotic percussions and building grooves that produce introspection on “who” and “where”.Faces overlap and merge each ot her t o creat e a new dimension, they compose and fuse themselves into tangible imaginary of the musical abstraction of the sound.
