This week is all about bands playing other bands' songs… In fact, we're going to listen to songs that many different artists have covered; compare them, and then ask, “Who did it better???”. In this episode, we showcase the diversity of how a band can take a hit that you've heard a million times and put their own spin on it. Who do you think did it best? What's this InObscuria thing? We're a podcast that exhumes obscure Rock n' Punk n' Metal and puts them in one of 3 categories: the Lost, the Forgotten, or the Should Have Beens. Happy Holidays to all of our ‘Scurians out there. Due to the abundance of amazing new releases in the world of rock n' punk n' metal, we will forego our annual Christmas episode for a 2-parter Shallow Graves 2024! At the end of every year, Kevin does a solo episode celebrating top releases of the year, but there are too many artists that Captain Content heard this year where he said, “…I'd like a little more of that”! So, Kevin's Christmas present to the Captain is songs from artists he said he dug… Hope you dig these 2024 tunes also! What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we look back on bands that released new rock n' punk n' metal in the year 2024 that piqued the Captain's interest. Hopefully, you get turned onto something new!Songs this week include:Tuk Smith & The Restless Hearts - “Little Renegade” from Rogue To Redemption (2024)Now After Nothing - “Criminal Feature” from Artificial Ambivalence (2024)Skraeckoedlan - “Meteorb” from Vermillion Sky (2024)The Damn Truth - “The Willow” from The Willow - single (2024)Riot V - “Love Beyond The Grave” from Mean Streets (2024)Shellac - “WSOD” from To All Trains (2024)Nestor - “We Come Alive” from Teenage Rebel (2024)UltraBomb - “Who Knows” from Dying To Smile (2024)Meanstreak - “Rubberneck” from Blood Moon - Ep (2024)Black Country Communion - “You're Not Alone” from V (2024)Type O Negative - “Red Water (Christmas Mourning)” from October Rust (1996)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://x.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uIf you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/Check out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/
“Dude, you know you can donate plasm…” Because of the obvious “Halloween tingle” wafting through the Bunkerpoon, we decided to finish out “the month of Halloween” with a rrrrrevisitation of the grrrrreen tinted, goth infused, Sabbath inspired doom metal druids hailing from Brooklyn, New York known as TYPE-O-NEGATIVE. To be fair, “technically” we have already done an INSIDE THE METAL featuring TYPE-O, but that's been (approximately) 3 years and 10 days ago, and A LOT has changed since then, not only with regard to the world at large but also with the quality of this podcast as well. Having said that, we felt that discussing more TYPE-O-NEGATIVE made perfect sense, as their catalog (and our podcast) is all about “thickness and girth.” HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL!!! It's time to put on your “platfoam shoes” and get ready to r-r-r-r-r-roll your R's while trick or treating with “Tom Johnson” during our “pre-Chronicles Chronicles” Halloween event in the Bunkerpoon Dungeon. Remember that “Summer's Eve” is not the same as “Summer Breeze”, discover the proper way to prepare “a handheld” and JOIN US via the “Interdimensional Bunkerpoon Portal” as we go (BACK) INSIDE THE METAL (AGAIN) with TYPE-O-NEGATIVE. Formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989, by the enigmatic and charismatic Peter Steele (vocals, bass), along with Josh Silver (keyboards), Kenny Hickey (guitar), and Sal Abruscato (drums), Type O Negative emerged as a groundbreaking force in the world of dark and subversive metal.Type O Negative's music defies easy categorization, blending elements of gothic, doom, and industrial metal with a healthy dose of black humor. Their sound is a sonic tapestry of haunting melodies, crushing riffs, and deep, baritone vocals—Peter Steele's signature voice being one of the most recognizable and distinctive in the metal world. The band's debut album, "Slow, Deep and Hard," released in 1991, set the stage for their unique brand of metal. Songs like "Unsuccessfully Coping with the Natural Beauty of Infidelity" and "Xero Tolerance" explored themes of heartbreak, nihilism, and misanthropy, with a heavy dose of sarcasm. The album was an unapologetic foray into the darkest corners of the human psyche, setting a precedent for the band's future work.Type O Negative's sophomore release, "Bloody Kisses" (1993), catapulted them to international acclaim. This album is often considered their magnum opus, blending elements of gothic romance with gloomy atmospheres. The hit single "Black No. 1 (Little Miss Scare-All)" became an anthem, capturing the hearts of goth and metal fans alike. With tracks like "Christian Woman" and "Too Late: Frozen," the album showcased Type O Negative's ability to craft both heavy and melodic songs. One of the band's defining features was their sense of humor and subversive approach to their music and image. Peter Steele's witty and often self-deprecating lyrics provided a stark contrast to the brooding music, making Type O Negative a band that could be simultaneously dark and tongue-in-cheek. Their cover of Seals and Crofts' "Summer Breeze" on "Bloody Kisses" became a beloved fan favorite, showcasing their ability to infuse humor into unexpected places. In 1996, they released "October Rust," an album that further solidified their status as pioneers of dark metal. This record featured tracks like "Love You to Death" and "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," showcasing their versatility in creating music that ranged from melancholic ballads to raucous anthems.Tragedy struck in 2010 when Peter Steele passed away, leaving a void in the music world that could never be filled. The loss of such a singular talent was deeply felt by fans and fellow musicians alike. His towering presence and darkly charismatic persona were central to Type O Negative's identity.Type O Negative'This episode is sponsored by www.betterhelp.com/TheBarn and presented to you by The Barn Media Group.
TYPE O NEGATIVE guitarist Kenny Hickey and drummer Johnny Kelly look back at their time with the iconic goth metal band on this week's edition of The Loaded Radio Podcast TYPE O NEGATIVE, the iconic gothic metal band known for their unique blend of dark humor and brooding melodies, delivered another dose of their signature sound with their 2003 album, “Life Is Killing Me.” Released on June 17, 2003, this album marked a significant addition to the band's discography. “Life Is Killing Me” retained the band's characteristic mix of doom-laden riffs, Peter Steele‘s deep, haunting vocals, and lyrics that often tread the line between melancholic and macabre. The album explored a wide range of themes, from the struggles of daily life to the band's notorious wit, all set against a backdrop of heavy, atmospheric music. TYPE O NEGATIVE formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989. Led by the charismatic and enigmatic frontman Peter Steele, the band gained notoriety for their dark and melancholic sound, blending elements of doom metal, gothic rock, and industrial music. With a unique blend of dark humor and introspection, their albums, including "Bloody Kisses" and "October Rust," became iconic in the gothic and metal music scenes. Tragically, Peter Steele's death in 2010 marked the end of the band, but their influential music continues to captivate listeners worldwide. In the interview, Kenny and Johnny discuss the turbulent times while making the "Life Is Killing Me" album, they're favorite TYPE O NEGATIVE songs, a possible live album and much more.
Robert Cooper and Mark Radulich present their Type O Negative Career Retrospective 1989–2010.Type O Negative were an American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York City in 1989 by Peter Steele (bass, lead vocals), Kenny Hickey (guitar, co-lead vocals), Josh Silver (keyboards, backing vocals), and Sal Abruscato (drums, percussion), who was later replaced by Johnny Kelly. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "the Drab Four" (in homage to the Beatles' "Fab Four" moniker). – Vídeo eliminado: https://www.univision.com/shows/mistico-e-inexplicable/por-que-se-llama-lucifer-el-telescopio-del-vaticano-video EL DÍA QUE BUZZ ALDRIN TROMPEÓ EN LA CALLE A UN HOMBRE QUE LO LLAMÓ MENTIROSO: https://www.clarin.com/viste/video-dia-buzz-aldrin-trompeo-calle-hombre-llamo-mentiroso_0_eTfw7zvMg.html CQC – La NASA es una Shitcom: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzrHhHULKGE BRIAN MULLIN – The ISS, Satellites, and the Thermosphere: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9ukbILA8um4 GRABACIONES QUE DEMUESTRAN LA INEXISTENCIA DE CURVATURA TERRESTRE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwimocU0IIc FÉLIX BAUMGARTNER - Salto estratosférico: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vEOLJxJPTD8 SONIDOS DEL INFIERNO – Pozo superprofundo Kola: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_sTwFZuIOrM INQUIETANTE DESCUBRIMIENTO EN EL FONDO SUBMARINO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqly3FmIPcg MUEREN EN UN ACCIDENTE DOS COLEGAS DEL CINEASTA JAMES CAMERON: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=egsOODZIZbw DESCUBRIÓ “ALGO” EN EL FONDO DEL MAR – Murió misteriosamente: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_fTUteNoT0 LOS ASTRONAUTAS SE VOLVIERON LOCOS - Documental: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Na8g_BoYuM BIBLIOGRAFÍA: ROWBOTHAM, S.B. On today's super-sized episode, we begin to tackle the absolute behemoth that is WORLD COMING DOWN. We talk about what makes it such a tough yet rewarding listen, the crushing disappointment the band felt after the lackluster sales of October Rust, and how they were once again left out in the cold by another massive shift in popular music, before we read and react to quotes from the band. We also cover the year 1999 in general, the dire state of rock radio at the time, and get majorly sidetracked plumbing the depths of the Woodstock '99 lineup.- Thanks again for listening, and stay tuned for part 2!
As promised, the conclusion to our OCTOBER RUST series. We cover the rest of the songs, often by singing them extremely poorly. After that, we suggest songs we would have liked to see the band cover, and give our album recommendations. - If you like the show, don't forget to like, follow, subscribe, review, etc., and come follow us on Instagram and/or Twitter @PodIsKillingMe, or send us an email at podiskillingme@gmail.com
After a small delay, OCTOBER RUST pt. 2 is finally here! We give our track-by-track analysis, which essentially amounts to a whole lot of breathless praise and gushing, talk about why we think Josh and Kenny do not get enough recognition, discuss the signature production style employed on the record, and Jeff talks about the best song to eulogize Peter with (can you guess), causing Jesse to get misty-eyed in the process. -Elsewhere, we consider what acts we would have liked to see cover Type O, talk about the somewhat controversial signature production style of the album, delve into the Pagan themes in the lyrics, make a quick pit stop in Movie Corner, and play a clip from a new PBS documentary from Ken Burns, THE TINDER WAR. -OCTOBER RUST pt. 3 is already in the can and will be dropping in just a couple of days. We went way long on this one, and figuring no one wanted to listen to us yap for 2.5 hours straight, decided to split this one down the middle - this episode covers everything up to Die With Me, with all subsequent tracks on the next episode. Sorry again for the delay, see you all in a couple days!
On today's episode, we are finally delving into our personal favorite, OCTOBER RUST!After a short message from a famous celebrity listener, we talk about what makes the album such an outlier in their catalog, and why it failed to live up to the band's expectations. We also get into the rapidly changing musical climate of 1996, compare our favorite scatting vocalists, and go back to the well for some MORTAL KOMBAT: ANNIHILATION soundtrack talk, before Jeff gives an impromptu review of SCREAM VI (spoilers possible.)Stay tuned for part two, coming in two weeks, when we will go track-by-track with the album, and give our final verdict!Don't forget to rate, review, follow, and subscribe wherever you are listening to us, and get in touch with us on Instagram and Twitter @podiskillingme
Ape List #18 – Ever Fallen in Love ? Sommaire de l'épisode : 3:16 The Ramones – Oh oh I Love Her so (extrait de Leave Home sorti en 1977) 20:33 Megadeth - Last Rites/Loved to Deth (extrait de Killing is my Business... and Business is Good! sorti en 1985) 42:14 The Sonics - Have Love, Will Travel (extrait de Here's the Sonics sorti en 1965) 56:18 AC/DC - Little Lover (extrait de High Voltage sorti en 1976) 1:05:30 Buzzcoks – Ever Fallen in Love (With Someone You Shouldn't've) (extrait de Love Bites, sorti en 1978) 1:14:30 Type-O-Negative – Love You to Death (extrait de October Rust, sorti en 1996) 1:30:00 The Damned - Love Song (extrait de Machine Gun Etiquette sorti en 1979) 1:38:15 Aerosmith - Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees) (extrait de Nine Lives sorti en 1997) 1:54:05 Second Rate - You don't Deserve my Love (extrait de Last Days of Glory sorti en 2003) 2:03:26 Roger Glover feat. Type O Negative October Rust For Daniel Lee
Louis goes hard (tee hee) on Type O Negative's 1996 album October Rust. Louis and Kate discuss the unique mix of influences behind the record, the unique charms of frontman Pete Steele and the comparative weaknesses of other male singers. This one is a slightly spicier pod than usual. Ed Sheeran might not like this one.... The management would like to inform you that you may wish to not listen to this one at work, or with your parents. Nothing ghoulishly screams October and All Hallows' Eve quite like TYPE O NEGATIVE, the hard core, goth-prog-doom metal crossover giants hailing from Brooklyn, New York. In fact, the only thing greater than TYPE O's uniquely gothic and unsettlingly creepy, green aesthetic was their ability to NEVER take themselves too seriously; something which we here at MNHQ 33rd Floor I.U.B.P. Studios fully support and highly encourage. Light a few candles for atmosphere, order a to-go-plate of Ron's Large Jalapeno Infused Centerfold nachos (*), and take your bae for a moonlit, midnight dance in the graveyard after you JOIN US as we pay heed to the band who's green, Sabbath-infused aura of everything doomy, gloomy and heavy perfectly complements everything woodsy, earthy and autumnal** that makes this time of year glorious for metal. Welcome brothers & sisters in blood, to another installment of our ongoing series called “Grave Mistakes: They Shoulda Been Huge!!!”. This time we focus on one of our favorite bands of all time; the amazingly creepy-cool champions of Vinland: TYPE O NEGATIVE!. Join us in our Halloween-themed celebration of this band's 7 killer albums and the big man that led this group: Peter Steele. If you don't know this band, or if you are only vaguely familiar with them; do yourself a favor and check this out. Put on some black, turn on the creepy green light, pour yourself a cup of absinthe, and crank up the volume! This episode is rooted in our Should Have Been category. This is a band that was trend-setting and had notoriety, but their brilliance and innovation have not been recognized nearly as much as your hosts think they should. We think they SHOULDA BEEN HUGER… and we are deadly serious about that!If you want to check out The Swear's latest 2021 performance in Pittsburgh, PA at N Stuff Music, click here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9xEMat7_WJ0Songs this week include:“Blood & Fire” from Bloody Kisses(1993)“Love You To Death” from October Rust (1996)“Kill You Tonight” from The Origin Of The Feces (1992)“Creepy Green Light” from World Coming Down (1999)“Halloween In Heaven” from Dead Again (2007)“Nettie” from Life Is Killing Me (2003)“Gravitational Constant: G = 6.67 * 10-8 cm-3 gm-1 sec-2” from Slow, Deep and Hard (1991)Please subscribe everywhere that you listen to podcasts!Visit us: https://inobscuria.com/https://www.facebook.com/InObscuriahttps://twitter.com/inobscuriahttps://www.instagram.com/inobscuria/Buy cool stuff with our logo on it!: https://www.redbubble.com/people/InObscuria?asc=uCheck out Robert's amazing fire sculptures and metal workings here: http://flamewerx.com/If you'd like to check out Kevin's band THE SWEAR, take a listen on all streaming services or pick up a digital copy of their latest release here: https://theswear.bandcamp.com/If you want to hear Robert and Kevin's band from the late 90s – early 00s BIG JACK PNEUMATIC, check it out here: https://bigjackpnuematic.bandcamp.com/
Welcome to the Mad Dog 0157 of podcast, the Brew Crew Podcast. In this episode, we re-hash in laws (hehe), Great American Beer Festival, October Rust. After we recover from all of the nonsense, JT delivers from Daley-bombs in Noonwhistle: Gummypocalpyse and Solemn Oath: Lu Radler; one of these beers is a mystery and the other is a revelation. Afterwards we intermingled Perry Como thoughts and his untimely demise as well as Donny Osmond and his favorite beers.
This week we're discussing every album by Type O Negative. Led by the late, great, hulking giant Peter Steel, Type O Negative helped to pioneer gothic metal in the 90s. Neither Mike or Alex had heard them prior to this episode, so this was a long time coming. Influential and important band. If you like black lipstick and deep voices, you've come to the right place. Dig it.Closing track: “Gravitational Constant” from Slow, Deep and Hard (1991)Check out our episode playlists on Spotify!https://open.spotify.com/user/motherpuncherincJoin our Patreon to jump the line when requesting an artist, as well as get bonus episodes, early access to shows, and more!https://www.patreon.com/everyalbumeverMerch available now!https://pandermonkey.creator-spring.com/Instagram:Follow Mike @pandermonkey for show clips and original musicFollow Alex @motherpuncherMike's Picks:World Coming Down (1999) — Best AlbumSlow, Deep and Hard (1991) — Personal FavoriteThe Origin of the Feces (1992) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlex's Picks:Bloody Kisses (1993) — Best AlbumDead Again (2007) — Personal FavoriteThe Origin of the Feces (1992) — Worst Album, Least FavoriteAlbums we discussed this episode…Slow, Deep and Hard (1991)The Origin of the Feces (1992)Bloody Kisses (1993)October Rust (1996)World Coming Down (1999)Life is Killing Me (2003)Dead Again (2007)

Something old, something new on today's show. Tim from Rise Against is up first. The new album from the guys is called Generation Nowhere and drops in June. He talks about the album, the writing process and the meaning of the title cut, plus.... -Live Stream Shows -His Thoughts On The State Of Rock -A Funny Story About A Conversation With Tom Morello -Singing a Cover Song With The Smashing Pumpkins ...and more. A fun conversation for sure! Then, around the 23 minute mark, it's a classic interview with the late Peter Steele from Type O Negative. This interview took place outside of Harpos, here in Detroit, in September of 1996. The weather was cooling off and the fall, Halloween spirit was in the air. We talks about October Rust, the nude photo shoots he did and More. You can really hear Peter's humor in this interview. It's our first episode of the year! This week, we abandoned the random number generator in favour of Rich picking an album he was desperate to hear after our Christmas special. But did it work out for the best, or was it a huge waste of our time? Key talking points - Two morning voices, a quick critique of the 2018 Grinch movie, a very long song title, embarrassing outros, Charlie Day doesn't pay us a visit, the boys get surprised by a picture on the internet, sweaty velcro and meat triangles, a Nickelback shaped rabbit hole, Rich finally gets in on the vocal impressions and Kyle shows his literary preferences. What is it we do here at InObscuria? Every show Kevin opens the crypt to exhume and dissect from his personal collection; an artist, album, or grouping of tunes from the broad spectrum of rock, punk, and metal. This week we stray a bit from our standard rigor because… well, because it’s the end of 2020 and we just feel like spreading some Christmas cheer in an otherwise gloomy year. It's Halloween week, y'all! Ghosts, goblins, and creatures of the night with a taste for BLOOD (all kinds of blood as you'll soon find out
We're ringing in Fall over here at the OMYAC Factory the best way we know how: by listening to Type O Negative's 1996 goth dirge opus "October Rust"! We're joined by Todd Bowes (Downcity Armory) as we parse this album by Brooklyn Vampyrs, in addition to looking for condos in Boston (spoiler: throw a rock blindly and you'll hit one), the dirt lot where they filmed Judgement Night, Gary Young's "Plant Man", and Patrick in general just acts like a big baby. The usual sort of thing around these parts.
It's been ten years since we lost the gothic metal vampire king, Peter Steele. I reflect on the loss (as well as that of Ronnie James Dio and Lemmy Kilmister) and tout my affection for Type O Negative's swansong "Dead Again." No, it likely isn't the album that turned you on to TON (that was probably "Bloody Kisses"), and no, it doesn't have the band's best song (I don't mention it on the podcast, but surely it is "Love You to Death" from "October Rust"), but "Dead Again" is top-to-bottom a classic, brilliant record. RIP Peter. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/welldisguised/message

After taking pretty much September and October off, the guys are back to knock off the cobwebs. (There's a lot of cobwebs)
Non-Metal month has wrapped up, Billy Joe Armstrong has been awoken, and the spookiest month has begun. Join us on this episode as we discuss the appropriately goth album "October Rust" from Type O Negative.
This week. DJ Warlock Hell On Wheels celebrates the anniversary of the Type O Negative albums “Bloody Kisses” and “October Rust” with nearly 90 minutes of bands either in a similar vein or related to the Drab Four.
Tune in this time to hear Grey say “uh” an unprecedented amount of times while talking to Mary about two crooning singers. Mary suggested David Bowie’s classic album, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars; meanwhile, Grey offered up Type O Negative’s ever-so-spooky, October Rust. EXPLICIT CONTENT.
Steve and Remfry sit down to discuss the seventh and final album by NY gothic doom merchants Type O Negative. Whilst the album had a decent critical reception, Dead Again is rarely given the credit it's due, with most media attention focusing on the (admittedly brilliant) Bloody Kisses and October Rust. But Dead Again, whilst not perfect, contains some utterly definitive and fascinating insights into Type O Negative and more pertinently Pete Steele. Released three years before his untimely death, there is an irony surrounding the album in that it's the most morbid record by a band practically obsessed with death. Paradoxically, it's also Type O's lightest album, containing many of the bands fastest, punkier cuts. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
