Neil Young, Talking Stick Amphitheater, Phoenix, AZ, 4/27/2024RAGGED GLORYMaybe Neil Young isn't as spry as he used to be, but who is? At 78, to be playing hard core rock with the passion he displays isn't only a goddam miracle, it's a revelation.  And, just like young Micah Nelson, who filled in for Nils Lofgren (who's on tour with his other Sensei, Bruce Springsteen) to jam with Crazy Horse stalwarts Billy Talbot on bass and Ralph Molina on drums - demonstrates a generational melding that gives hope to us aging rockers. So, also when my son suggested that he and I fly to Phoenix to catch Neil's latest (I won't say last because who the fuck knows) tour, I gratefully accepted the familial love that was being offered.And, what a show it was! The opening act of Reverend Billy and the Church of the Stop Shopping Choir was a weird, trippy, and funk-fueled way to begin the evening.  But since combining positive energy against Climate Change with tornado-like rock and roll force is Neil's thing, it didn't surprise me that he recruited this legendary street performer to be his emissary. The early spring evening temp in Phoenix was perfect, and Neil was in a generous mood to give this fans what they craved - the golden oldies from Everybody Knows This is Nowhere, Zuma, and Rust Never Sleeps - with a short acoustic interlude playing Comes a Time and Heart of Gold (which everybody sang along to). It felt like a fucking campfire. And, looooong kick ass jams, which is what my son was craving. Down by the River and Cortez the Killer were at least 15 minutes each. And, what Neil may have lost in dexterity, he more than makes up for with heart-tugging, sonic crunching lyricism. For my money, he's one of the best rock guitarists who ever slung an axe. There are compensations to getting older; one of which is sharing your heroes with your children, and having them love them along with you.

The powerful thing about this experiment is that we are talking directly to people about the Earth's crisis.  It's not graphics, mass mailings, or social media's pixels. In the first three shows the choir and I played to 21,000 people. Our job is like an opening act, but also we are hosting the event of the LOVE EARTH tour.  Neil and his partner Daryl Hannah came to us to help them convey the meaning of the tour.   Moving from our storefront “Earthchxrch” in the East Village, we gasped at the shift in scale, like a pleasurable version of the bends. When we wake up on the bus the morning after a show, the pleasure we feel is that we have blasted into the sweeping landscape of messages like “Let's make a new kind of activism for the Earth!” ….and “Can we be strange enough to change enough?” …and “Love is the Earth's radical gift.  Let's use it for Life!” Would love to hear from you as we disappear into the thousands of people and thousands of miles.

Cheryl credits the Modern Day Priestess training with Reverend Kate Rodger, steeping in ancient wisdom ways for practical use in the modern world, for inspiring the spiritual growth that now guides her “Love Earth” work. She resides in Los Angeles, where she takes copious yoga classes, digs up the yard and throws a lot of darts as therapy. She facilitates the Natural Muse Meetup for Earth-loving writers. She serves as Vice-President of the Board of Directors of the North East Trees nonprofit organization, “bringing Nature back” to nature-poor communities around Los Angeles County. L'album s'intitulera Only the Strong Survive et sortira le 11 novembre. Springsteen y explore le catalogue légendaire de la Motown, Gamble and Huff, Stax et beaucoup d'autres labels célèbres. Sur ce 21e album studio, le Boss sera accompagné au chant par Sam Moore et par la section cuivre du E Street Band. Phil Collins et Genesis vendent leur catalogue à leur tour. La vente tutoie les 300 millions de dollars et concerne les droits et les enregistrements "master" de la majorité du catalogue de Genesis, de la carrière solo de Phil Collins, et du groupe Mike & the Mechanics. Le Président de Concord Music group (la société à la base de l'achat), Bob Valentine, a expliqué vouloir amener les back-catalogues de Collins et Genesis vers une nouvelle génération d'auditeurs plus jeunes. On savait que Neil Young allait sortir un nouvel album avec le Crazy Horse ce 18 novembre, et il vient d'en dévoiler un premier extrait. L'album World Record était confirmé depuis un moment. Et Neil Young vient d'en partager un premier extrait : "Love Earth", décrit comme "un hommage à mère-nature". L'album comptera 10 titres et sera produit par Rick Rubin dans ses studios Shangri-La de Malibu. C'est déjà là que Young avait travaillé là pour son album Peace Trail sorti en 2016. Neil assurera le chant sur World Record, tandis que le Crazy Horse se chargera des instruments Arctic Monkeys vient de dévoiler "Body Paint", nouvel extrait de l'album, The Car, à venir… Il s'agira du dernier titre qui teasera leur album The Car qui sortira ce 21 octobre, un disque annoncé comme "introspectif" et contenant du piano et de la batterie plus lente qu'attendu.
