Mae Thomas is not your average podcaster. Her production company, Maed In India, produces their flagship show with the same name as well as many high-quality podcasts from all over India. She started in radio and transitioned skillfully into podcasting with a hunger for innovation and exploration. Mae embraces, no, demands, that the unique characteristics of podcasting be exploited to their fullest for the listener's benefit. And this is where most of our conversation pitches its tent.-------------------------------------------------You can watch this conversation on YouTube here--------------------------------------------------Maed in India's Website, Facebook page, Twitter and IG-Spotify's Sound Up Program-Global Podcast Editors-------------------------------------------------Music: Funk Me Up by Carrozza Gregory Joseph through MelodieGeopats Podcast is created, produced, hosted and edited by Stephanie Fuccio. Turning our backs to our TBR pile, we draw up a wish list of the fiction we wish would come out of the Indian literary scene. A novel about friendship in today's India? What about ditching the fixation with mother-daughter relationships, and instead writing about aunties? And isn't it about time we had fantasy fiction that wasn't rooted in religious mythology? A little over twenty years ago, Ivory Mae Thomas was at work on the night shift cleaning offices at the Kansas City branch of the US nuclear weapons complex when someone came to her and said "I've got bad news for you. ...our machine had a little leak, and we discovered you stepped in radiation." They took her to an emergency room at the plant, took her clothes, scrubbed her down, and came to her house in the middle of the night and scrubbed it down. Thomas says she was never told exactly what she had been exposed to until a local television reporter dug it out with FOIA requests twenty years later. On this edition of Tell Somebody, Ivory Mae Thomas and her son talk about her exposure to radioactive promethium in 1989.
