Marty Sklar worked for the Walt Disney Company over 50 years, mostly at Imagineering, which he ran for nearly ten. He got his start in marketing and publicity at Disneyland where he wrote much of the material Walt Disney presented at media events, on television and in numerous company publications. He had his hand in developing park projects including the Carousel of Progress, It's a Small World and Ford's Magic Skyway at the 1964 New York World's Fair, the grand opening of Walt Disney World, and the creative development of Epcot, Tokyo Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland. He remains the only person to be involved in the grand openings of every Disney theme park around the world. He's a Disney Legend and has recently written a memoir about his exceptional career, "Dream It! Do It! My Half-Century Creating Disney's Magic Kingdoms." Jambeaux, everyone!!! Welcome to another episode of the Magic Our Way podcast. It is time for a fresh, uplifting show!!! And, the topic we have chosen to accomplish this is ROMANCE!!! Let’s go!!! This week, we once again address several topics which peaked our interest for discussion while waiting in the Queue. In this case, we enrich our literary minds by discussing books that are in the works such as a comic book, a graphic novel, and Marty Sklar’s new book, Dream It! Do it!: My Half-Century Creating Disney’s Magic Kingdoms, which is coming out on August 13, 2013.  In the Hub, we talk about how to have a romantic time in Walt Disney World. Yes, you read that correctly! Couples can have a romantic time in Disney World....should one have thorough planning of said experience. We gladly share some of our tips of things to do and not to do when planning a romantic romp through the parks. Itineraries...YES, we came up with our own versions of a one day romantic experience at Disney World. Danny will take the “blue sky” approach and Kevin will take a rather less expensive approach to romancing your significant other in the World. Listen and see what they have to say. If you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us at magicourway@gmail.com. We could probably use the help. HAHAHA! (((HEADPHONES STRONGLY RECOMMENDED))) This week, the Mouse Lounge takes a trip to the antebellum south and Critter Country. Also on the show, a full docket of Disney News from our departments Entertainment, Theme Parks East, Theme Parks West, and Business. In our Get to know the Disney Podcasters segment we have a seat in the lounge with the man behind the golden Window to the Magic microphone, Paul Barrie. No trip to the South would be complete without great music. The Disneyland Band is up to the task with a New Orleans themed Concert in the Park. Each week in From the Vault we sample a clip from a classic Disney film, short, television or radio program, or Disneyland Record. This week take an audio journey into Song of the South. First, excerpts from a delightful radio promotion featuring Johnny Mercer, Walt, and members of the cast. Then again join Johnny Mercer and his group, the Pied Pipers and the original cast on the 1947 Capitol Records DC-116, the Tales of Uncle Remus. From the Disney Family Museum take a journey in the making of Song of the South with excerpts from a Special Exhibit about the film. We then turn to the unabridged audio book, Neal Gablers, Walt Disney the Triumph of the American Imagination for an in depth look into the film and the politics that surrounded it. Each week we present a high definition ride-through from a Disney Park East or a Disney Park West. Have a listen to Tim O’Brien, Senior Editor of Amusement Business Magazine and Imagineers Kathy Mangum and the late Bruce Gordon as they talk about the making of this weeks featured attraction, Splash Mountain. Then, grab your parka as we hop into a log for a spectacular ride through of the Magic Kingdoms version of the attraction. We close the show with a beautifully swinging arrangement of Sooner or Later as sung by the incomparable Dinah Shore. Enjoy!
