What We Discuss In This Episode: New research is being published all the time – and Maryon stays up to date on what's going on in the world of “menopause” and hormones. In this episode, Maryon shares some stories of how women in the perimenopausal stage of life often feel that life had passed them by. For some, they experience breakdowns, retreating into themselves, and instead of giving a presentation in the workplace, find themselves curled in a ball under the desk. Many face broken situations with women even leaving the work place. Many women don't even realize this is happening in the beginning since it happens gradually. But many find themselves experiencing Brain fog, anxiety, night sweats, mood swings, weight gain, etc. While in perimenopause we're predisposed to different diseases we can still stay in good nutritional states, and use Mother Nature's natural estrogen to be able stay on top of many of the symptoms we may be facing. Interestingly enough, research shows billions of women have nutritional deficiencies which affects the brain chemistry (which becomes worse as you age (plus your retiring ovaries through perimenopause). As a result, it's even more important that going through menopause, we are taking care of ourselves. Even when we're post-menopausal, and tend breathe a sigh of relief, thinking it's all behind us, we still need to remember we're still vulnerable after menopause with things like nutritional deficiencies, osteoporosis, heart disease, etc. Although it sounds hopeless, that is absolutely not the case. Research now shows that by topping up on nutrients and staying in good shape after menopause, you can prevent so many of the diseases that are common in this phase of life - and not just eradicate symptoms. We can actually go through a transformation and feel better in our midlife years than before. Women drop out in their 50's because many of them are unable to function. They are running on empty due to the fact that billions of women have nutritional deficiencies, which affects both brain chemistry and hormone function, and if not corrected, gets worse with age plus, empty oestrogen receptors which can be filled naturally to fool the brain into thinking there is normal circulating oestrodial. Through lack of education or any suggestion that it could be any other way, brain fog, insomnia, panic attacks, fatigue and aches and pains prevent women from being the best version of themselves. They buy into the fact that the best years of their lives have passed them by. Sadly, doctors are not sufficiently educated. The Mayo Clinic Survey in 2019 revealed that only 7% of doctors and gynaecologists feel adequately educated to help women through menopause. A BMA survey a few months ago showed that about 90% of female doctors are bothered by their menopause and 46% either contemplate retiring or working fewer hours. In our last survey on 1100 women in the UK we found 96% of women unprepared for menopause and two-thirds said they felt robbed of life as they knew it. In our survey of 1000 working women, 84% said they productivity was adversely affected for more than 8 days a month. In 2019 Forbes said that menopause is costing $810 Billion globally, each year, due to lost productivity and health care costs associated with menopause. We have to change the paradigm so that women come to understand they simply need what I call a 'midlife refuel' in their 40's. There is a huge missing education piece and my mission is to remedy it.
