Welcome to season 2, episode 2 of The Fuel Run Recover Podcast! In this week's episode, I sat down with fellow runner and physiotherapist Elliot Cooke to talk about all things running and injuries. We answer questions like, why do we keep hearing that running is bad for our joints? and, how can runners keep their joints healthy? How much does wearing the right (or wrong) shoes play a role in developing injuries? A little more about Elliot: Elliott graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Master of Physical Therapy and a Bachelor of Science (Chemistry and Biology). He practiced at Elite Physiotherapy for three years before deciding to open a new clinic with a modern approach to Physiotherapy.   Elliott is a certified professional with The Running Clinic, SFMA levels 1 and 2, Acupuncture, Dry Needling, and Orthopaedic level 1. Elliott has also taken further education in Spinal Manipulation, TMJ pain, Long-COVID Rehabilitation, Hip OA, Pelvic Girdle Dysfunction, and Mulligan Mobilizations.   Elliott competed for the University of Manitoba Bisons as a Captain of the Track and Field and Cross Country teams. He raced middle distance and distance events, specializing in the 3000m. He has run several half marathons, shorter local races, trail races, and one marathon. He was most recently the winner of the 2024 Frostbite River Run 5 Km, and the 2023 Manitoba Marathon 10 Km.   Elliott spends his leisure time running, skiing, sailing, and playing squash. He is an armchair physicist and, despite being a lousy gardener, still loves to cook. Want to learn more about how we can work together to accomplish your running goals? Riley Harrison was recruited to play receiver for the Manitoba Bisons beginning in 2014. A self-described “humble and hard-working guy,” he played for his teammates and enjoyed every second of his journey. He had his breakout season in 2016, recording 535 yards – good for seventh in the conference – from the slotback position. Entering the 2020 season, Harrison had 1,199 career receiving yards, placing him just outside the top ten in program history. Had there been a season, he would've had the chance to break the program record of 2,092 while also setting himself up in a better position to get drafted. That didn't happen. The COVID-19 pandemic derailed the season, and Harrison's career was cut short right at its peak, as he was preparing for the CFL Draft. “COVID shut everything down, and along with it my shot at the CFL,” said Harrison. “After that, I went to work as a painter for a company. I started hating it and didn't enjoy going to work. I realized I needed to make a change. I took a gamble and quit my job to start my own company. In doing so, I fell back in love with painting and found a new passion as an entrepreneur.” Harrison started doing gigs last March, so he's coming up on one year of successfully running a business (Prodigy Paint and Design). He is passionate about sharing his experiences as an entrepreneur with others, and how his time with the Bisons has helped him succeed.

Anton Rodin plays 0:00, Willie handcuffs his team and the Vancouver Canucks win streak is over! A full bench of Ryan, Dave, P Mac and Geeta gather to star asking some serious question about Canucks' Head Coach Willie Desjardins. From some odd line up decisions, the gang is a little confused. They talk about bad karma for Mike Smith, as the bad luck for the lanky Coyotes goalie continues, and give their thoughts on the unfortunate hit (and eventual concussion) on Patrik Laine in a game vs Buffalo. Was it clean? Would you lay the body if you were in McCabe's shoes? Ryan cites Ken Dryden's book 'The Game' and more specifically, Dryden writing about famed Montreal Canadiens' head coach Scotty Bowman and what makes a good coach. He compares it to what Willie D is doing being the Canucks bench and further questions Willie's actions. Finally, the gang talks about Wayne Gretzky's outdoor alumni game tour, the downpour in the AHL outdoor game and the trials and tribulations of meeting people off Tinder in our new dating segment 'Dump 'N Chase' Enjoy!
