In this episode of Recruiting Trailblazers – Marcus interviews Bruce Morton about his role at Allegis as Chief Strategy Officer and his book “Redesigning the Way Work Works”Bruce shares how he advises Clients on workforce design and TA in the future - as well as actually leading the design of most suited services for the Allegis client portfolio.Allegis Largest privately held staffing firm in world (owns Aerotek) and operates in all the usual talent verticals – technology, manufacturing, financial services, energy and healthcare. On the subject of the Covid disruption - Allegis were able to get 20k people employees working from home in 2 days plus 500k workers WFH! A lot of perm hiring came to a stop. Bruce thinks it’s going to be a “tick mark recession” (quick entry and slow exit), and also thinks that the contract markets will expand due to lack of confidence – probably indefinitely. Plus we may reach a 50-50 mix of perm to on-demand workers in the not too distant future.Marcus and Bruce discuss the cornerstones of his book – “Redesigning the Way Work Works”What is Organizational readiness? What are Work Design Architects and why do all (big) companies need one? What is a Talentsumer?(Bruce describes how todays workers “consume” jobs in the same way that they might purchase any product or service.)Deconstructing the work – what is the need for it? (basing your hiring decisions on your achievement goals rather than duties and responsibilities)One of the highlight of the conversation - Bruce shares a great story about Ronald Reagan visiting NASA – asking a cleaner what do you do? He responded – “I helped put a man on the moon!”Other key questions answered:To what extent do companies have a properly mapped out mission and strategy – to increase the value of their offering to their clients?Talent Architecture – can Companies check their egos at the door to allow the new workers to choose how best to engage with an employer to perform a specific set of tasks.Do companies need to bear more responsibility regarding the retention of employees/workers in tough times like Covid? Are companies finally measuring workers by productivity instead of activity? Are remote workers in fact getting more work done at home – and isn’t this a big surprise?Do you think hiring managers do enough to sell the opportunity to a candidate - or spend too much time assessing for fit?The Glassdoor phenomena – does it work and what impact is it having on the world of work? Bruce explains why Allegis is such a great place to work! 12 million U.S. employers spend $5 Trillion on HR technology, $250 Billion of it on recruitment and hiring. So why does the candidate experience still suck and why is employee engagement still floundering at around 35%? Will more and better HR technology fix the candidate experience? Is artificial intelligence (AI) the answer? What will HR be talking about in 2020-2021?Those are the questions we asked Matt Charney, from Allegis Global Solutions and Recruiting Daily.Geeks Geezers Googlization Radio Show is broadcast live at Wednesday's at 1PM ET on W4CY Radio (www.w4cy.com) part of Talk 4 Radio (www.talk4radio.com) on the Talk 4 Media Network (www.talk4media.com). Craig and Matt - who head up marketing for Allegis - spoke to Alan Walker of #ChatTalent at RecFest 2018. They spoke about the difference in recruitment innovation between the UK and the US market (suprisingly, they think the UK is ahead), the unique event that is RecFest - and how they've both played a part in its incredible growth - and then gave Alan the runaround for 8 minutes. Probably the most fun interview Alan did at RecFest.

Hey kids, it's The Shred for July 27, 2018, brought to you by Judge.com. Whether you're moving your systems to the cloud, building out a team for your next project, finding healthcare talent for your organization, filling that mission critical direct hire to lead your team, or training your employees on the latest technology, Judge.com can deliver to ensure your organization's long-term growth. To the news: Freelance gig marketplace Upwork confidentially filed for IPO this week, according to Recode; Upwork, as many remember is the product of a 2013 merger of Elance and oDesk; the company has raised $169M to date, according to Crunchbase. Will you be a buyer? Now to Facebook, at this week's Jobg8 conference, industry insider Matt Charney revealed in a keynote address that the social network is testing a candidate matching feature. Details were sparse, but it looks like once a job is posted, Facebook recommends users across its entire network who fit the job requirements. No news on what the algorithm looks like at this point – for example, does it only show candidates within a certain geotarget – but an official release should be forthcoming in the next few weeks. Sticking with Facebook, they acquired communications tool Redkix this week. Redkix lets companies manage chat, email, groups, and more within Slack-like channels; the service will shut down and the technology will be rolled into Facebook's Slack wannabe Workplace. Redkix had raised $17M to date. Now to Google, Big G announced this week that it was launching profile search in private beta. The new technology enables recruiters and sourcers to discover talent in their existing candidate databases. So, if you're keeping score at home, LinkedIn, Facebook and now Google are officially in the candidate matching game. As usual, we'll be sure to discuss the news in greater depth on the weekly show, so be sure to tune-in. Once again, thanks to our sponsor Judge.com. Nobody said it was easy. In fact, finding the right talent, for the right roles at the right time can be quite the task. But we must start somewhere – trust. Matt Charney, Editor-in-Chief of Recruiting Daily knows that recruiters don’t have the best reputation and often get little respect. On June 27, he’ll share his presentation, “Building your Recruiter Brand,” at HCI’s Strategic Talent Acquisition Conference in Boston. When candidates begin their job hunt, they’ve certainly got their eyes peeled in an attempt to weed out bad experiences, aggressive recruiters and wasted time. With the right recruitment brand, the information provided to top talent comes from a credible source. Perhaps that source is a subject matter expert within the company – someone who can supply honest career knowledge and add value to the candidate experience. Creating confidence among top talent allows great recruiters to focus on providing a platform for folks who actually do the job. Join us for this podcast to learn how recruiting leaders can re-establish a good rapport, make hiring an easier process and create a credible recruiter brand.
Once upon a time, it felt like the only time an employee dealt with HR was when they were hired, when they left the company and perhaps when they had a question about their insurance or another benefit. All in all the HR department has over the years earned a reputation as a bit of a stranger to the everyday employee. However, that reputation is changing. In this week’s SMACTalk, the second in our series partnership with Adobe Document Cloud, we explore the future of Human Resources and HR Tech. This week Mason Stubblefield from Adobe and Matt Charney, known HR Tech Influencer joined hosts Brian Fanzo and Daniel Newman to discuss the transformation of the HR department; covering where we are now, where HR needs to go and some of the challenges and opportunities that exist. A few of the questions that Charney and Stubblefield tackle on the show include: How has HR changed the most over the past few years? What impact have new technologies and tools had on how HR functions? Have we seen increased collaboration between HR and LOB? How else has HR improved collaboration with the organization? Real time feedback has always lacked in HR. What are some of the trends to improve that and increase employee engagement? Employees are more and more becoming extensions of brands. How can companies manage that while allowing employees to help with the brand story? While the opinions of thought leaders Mason Stubblefield and Matt Charney tended to be similar as to the need for change in HR, it was interesting to hear from each their different views on the questions where Stubblefield provided some wonderful examples of how change is being accomplished inside of an enterprise like Adobe and Charney brought a fun, and sometimes slightly jaded view of the HR field and put a strong onus companies to strive for more employee, candidate and technology centric models that helped HR evolve fast! One thing is for sure, there is massive disruption taking place inside the HR department as the role is moving from administrative support to the internal marketing champion for brands as well as the catalyst for employee engagement.
