In faith, we have shared with Christ a death to sin and resurrection to a newness of life! Sin can no longer reign in our lives. We are set free, so live set free!
Christ did not come to the Earth to condemn us for our sins, but in order that through Him, we might be set free from the bondage of our sins! Paul reminds his Jewish brothers and sisters in Romans 3:9-20 that they are all under sin, just like the rest of humanity. It is because of this sin that we are in need of the Grace of Christ.
As was revealed to Simeon in Luke 2, Jesus coming to us to live just like us brings the fullness of Hope to believers. Even when we don't have the answers for why things feel hopeless, we can know our Savior stood in the same, difficult circumstances we too stand in. Our God is one who knows our heartache and gives true Hope!
If there's one certainty in real estate, it's that it never stays the same. Kim McCaslin, VP at M.R. Development, joined me this week to talk about her 30 year career in real estate development. We discussed how she got into it, what it's like to run a generational real estate business, and how she quickly became a “deal junkie”. We also talked about some of the major industry shifts that have happened in her career, and how zoning laws have played a huge part in real estate development. Finally, Kim and I discussed why real estate development is such a good investment opportunity. Join us this week to learn all about the real estate development industry! I'd like to say that this is one of the best love duets ever recorded, but I demur from superlatives generally. However, I can say with certainty that it's one of my favorites. Maybe it's the simple, straightforward vocal delivery of these two raw-boned, pioneer types that makes me cry every time they ease into the sinuous harmonies of the chorus. And, the lyrics complement the American Gothic soundscape as they sing: “See how the bramble and the rose intertwine…” It's a performance for the ages from two people who obviously loved and trusted each other and were dedicated to their mission to share the folk music they cherished.I'd never heard of Mary McCaslin or Jim Ringer when I ran across their album in the cut out bin at the old Rhino Records store on Westwood in Los Angeles. And, I'm not sure what induced me to buy it - perhaps it was the inclusion on the track list of “Oh, Death,” - a song I knew from Ralph Stanley-, that clinched the deal; Maybe it was the primitive portrait of the two lovers: Mary, with her modest, down cast eyes opposite the barrel chested, ruddy cheeked Ringer, who stares directly, and challengingly, from the cover. Whatever the draw, I'm thankful I spent the $3.99, and I've kept it close to my heart ever since for solace, to remind me that true love, even with all its thorns, is worth fighting for.

The mainstream news media struggles to understand the power of social media. In contrast, conspiracy advocates, malicious political movements, and even foreign governments have long understood how to harness the power of fear and the fear of power into lucrative outlets for outrage and money. But what happens when the messengers of “inside knowledge” go too far? Author Tea Krulos tells the story of one man, Richard McCaslin, whose fractured thinking made him the ideal consumer of even the most arcane of conspiracy theories. Acting on the daily rants of Alex Jones and his ilk, McCaslin takes matters into his own hands to stop the unseen powers behind the world's disasters who congregate at conspiracy world's Mecca—The Bohemian Grove. It all goes wrong with terrible consequences for the man who styled himself The Phantom Patriot. McCaslin is not alone, as conspiracy-driven political action has bubbled its way up from the margins of society to the White House. It's no longer a lone deranged kook convinced of getting secret messages from a cereal box; now, it's slick videos and well-funded outrage campaigns ready to peddle the latest innuendos and lies in hopes of harnessing the chaos for political gain. What is the long-term effect on people who believe these barely believable stories? Who benefits, and who pays the price? In American Madness: The Story of the Phantom Patriot and How Conspiracy Theories Hijacked American Consciousness (Feral House, 2020), Krulos investigates and explains the power of conspiracy, and the shared madness it brings on the American psyche. Tea Krulos is a freelance journalist and author from Milwaukee, WI. Some of his favorite subjects to explore include subcultures and social movements, weird news, the paranormal, and strange personalities. He also writes about local art and entertainment, lifestyle, and food/drink for publications like Milwaukee Magazine, Shepherd Express, and Milwaukee Record. His five non-fiction books are American Madness, Wisconsin Legends & Lore, Apocalypse Any Day Now, Monster Hunters, and Heroes in the Night. He's also been published in places like Atlas Obscura, Fortean Times, and Scandinavian Traveler and writes a weekly column called “Tea's Weird Week” at teakrulos.com. Tyler Thier is a faculty member and administrator in the Department of Writing Studies & Rhetoric at Hofstra University. He regularly writes and teaches cultural criticism, and his scholarship is concerned with malicious rhetoric and dangerous media—specifically, extremist manifestos. Learn more about your ad choices. There are many things in life that can give us a blurry vision of who Jesus is. No matter what those things are for you, Mark 8 shows us that Jesus's desire is that you may see him clearly for who he is! He tells us that when we deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow him, we see him clearly for who he fully is and get to live in the victory of his resurrection!

TIMESTAMPS (6:27) Charlotte Sena Update (10:37) Moms Who Murder About 2.5% of all homicide arrests in the United States are for parents who have killed their children. In this episode of the True Crime Society Podcast, we discuss ‘Moms Who Murder' cases that have happened in the past few months. Earlier in 2023, Tiffanie Lucas wrote on social media that her sons were “always together” and “never apart,” adding that together they were three souls and one heart. She added that she wouldn't know “how to smile, love, or survive if it wasn't for them.” In November 2023, Tiffanie alleged shot her sons in their head while they lay in their beds. Brandy McCaslin had been struggling with her mental health and had attempted to take her life earlier this year. When her three children were taken to her home for a supervised visit, she ended up killing them before taking her own life. Nancy Johnson and her husband Derek had been having marital issues this year. The family had moved interstate due to the cost of living. By September 2023, the couple had separated and would take turns living in the family home with their two young children. Derek broke into the home after he noticed there had been no movement from inside for a period of time. He discovered the lifeless bodies of his two young children and of his estranged wife. According to police, Nancy had orchestrated the scene to look like a triple homicide in the hope that police would think Derek was involved. Law enforcement have ruled this case a murder/suicide. In a society that is built around the American dream of working hard to gain recognition and growing your bank account, it can be hard to focus our lives solely on the Lord. Meeting deadlines or cleaning the house feels as if they can only be done to please our bosses or families. Our reading from Colossians is directed specifically towards bondservants, but we learn how Christ defines Christians as bondservants to the Lord and how that comparison should affect why we do all things.

Cultural competency training is an essential component of all behavioral health training curriculums and often a requirement for continuing education for licensed providers. But how often do those training opportunities include “military service” in the mix of cultural dimensions of identity that influence or shape an individual's experience? Not often enough. In this episode we are joined by Dr. Shannon McCaslin as we explore the importance of keeping “eyes on” military culture to better understand how it can and should inform our EBP work. Come hear how military culture can influence your patients' perspectives of their symptoms and treatment options level of, engagement, adherence, and treatment outcomes. Standalone message on Psalm 1.
Paul's gospel is intentionally organized to show that Jesus is God and that we can have life in him. In this gospel, we learn through the feeding of the 5,000 and Jesus's appearance to his disciples after his resurrection, that Jesus invites us to be a part of a Heavenly Potluck. He is the bread and will always provide for us. He also guides us to join with him in providing for those around us. He has given to us in abundance, so go and “feed his sheep” with the abundance he has given!

I interviewed Freelance Writer Tea Krulos, on his story about Richard McCaslin, a conspiracy theorist who was very talented and intelligent, but actually went too far by going into the infamous Bohemian Grove and actually set it on fire. McCaslin went into the grove heavily armed, thinking there were children that were going to be sacrificed being held prisoner there. And the story goes deeper as Tea and I talk about his book: "American Madness, The Story of the Phantom Patriot and How Conspiracy Theories hijacked American Consciousness, link for the book will be below, besides this I also talked with Tea about His work on his book "Heroes in the Night, The Real Life Super Hero Movement", where real life people take it upon themselves to become vigilantes and hit the streets to fight crime. We also talked about high conspiracy subjects like qanon and Flat Earth About Tea Krulos: Tea Krulos is a freelance writer and author from Milwaukee, WI. He is a regular contributor to publications such as the Riverwest Currents, M magazine, Fortean Times, and the Shepherd Express. He has also been published in a wide variety of other publications including the New York Press, The Guardian, Boston Phoenix, Maximumrocknroll, The Onion's "A.V. Club" section, and Pop Mythology. Some of his favorite subjects to explore and write about include unique and unusual subcultures, people, and places, as well as art and music. Krulos's first book is a non-fiction titled Heroes in the Night: Inside the Real Life Superhero Movement, a thorough investigation of a movement or subculture of people who call themselves “Real Life Super Heroes” and adopt their own costumed personas and hit the street to fight injustice. His second book, Monster Hunters: On the Trail With Ghost Hunters, Bigfooters, Ufologists, and Other Paranormal Investigators, was published in June 2015, from Chicago Review Press. Website(s):
