The importance of this conversation cannot be overstated given the level of censorship and lockdown globally as the world responds to the C0V1D-19 experience. Christina is a warrior for our future generations and listening to this episode will prepare you to best protect your family’s future wherever you are in the world. Christina Hildebrand is the founder and President of A Voice for Choice, Inc. and A Voice for Choice Advocacy, Inc. She is a market researcher with a degree in Statistics and modeling. Christina owns a Market Research firm which conducts research for many Silicon Valley companies. She also owns a Weston A Price based food delivery service in the San Francisco Bay area. Over the past 10 years she has conducted over 10,000 hours of research on vaccines, including consulting with many leading vaccine researchers, in a quest to understand the reality rather than the hype of vaccines. Christina had the idea for A Voice for Choice quite a few years ago, but did not have the time to start it, given her two other businesses. However, in 2015, in response to SB277 (the school vaccine mandate law in California), Christina felt that she needed to put the non-profit onto paper and founded A Voice for Choice Advocacy, Inc. This allowed the non-profit to hire a lobbyist in Sacramento, with whom Christina spent every Monday-Wednesday during the legislative session lobbying against SB277 and SB792 (the child care employee vaccine mandate bill). Christina continues to lobby and create legislative relationships in Sacramento. She also coordinates with the A Voice for Choice team to determine what educative events and projects will be supported. __________________________________ Stay Connected with the Christina: A Voice for Choice Advocacy: https://avoiceforchoiceadvocacy.org A Voice for Choice : http://avoiceforchoice.org Email Christina at christina@avoidforchoice.org Order amazing nutrient dense food from Real Food Bay Area here Stay Connected with the Future Generations Podcast: Instagram: @futuregenpodcast, @thefuturegensd and @drstantonhom Facebook: Future Generations Podcast and Future Generations | Clinic of Chiropractic Website: Future Generations | Clinic of Chiropractic Remember to Rate, Review and Subscribe on iTunes and Follow us on Spotify!

Consider lodging location carefully. There are so many options that it’s hard to narrow down your choices. How far away are wineries? Restaurants? What’s your style? Country and rustic or modern and bohemian? There’s something for everyone, and every price point too. Here are some recommendations listed from west (Fredericksburg) to east (Johnson City):* Cotton Gin Village* Modern Guest Houses: Ololo* Hoffman Haus Luxury B&B* Tipsy Peach Barn* Messina Hof’s Country Cottages* Historic Stonewall Motor Lodge* French Connection Maisonnettes (Hye)* Carter Creek Winery, Resort & Spa* Farmhouse Vineyards’ Guest Cottage (Johnson City)Tip 9. Which wineries should you visit? How much time do you have?Make sure you see both large and small production wineries. Schedule some quick tasting visits and some more extensive tours or tastings. You’ll definitely want to find a winery or two that has a great view. An in-town tasting room can offer lots of things, but there’s nothing like enjoying your tasting while looking out over the wide-open Hill Country landscape. Here are some suggestions:For an upscale tasting with a nice view, check out the new William Chris Vineyards tasting room. On weekends, this new space is for wine club members only. William Chris is one of the biggest producers of Mourvedre in the nation, so you’re sure to hear a lot about how this grape grows so well in Texas.4.0 Cellars is a joint effort between Brennan Vineyards (Comanche), Lost Oak Winery (Burleson) and McPherson Cellars (Lubbock). You’ll have an opportunity to try wines from each of these wineries. They’ve also got a special Texas wine and Texas cheese class.Just a couple miles south of Fredericksburg is the newest collaborative space in town, Slate Mill Wine Collective. It used to be a family operated winery called 1851 Vineyards and is now a custom crush facility that’s shared by 10 wine brands. There’s also a 35-acre estate vineyard there. Brands you can taste there include Tatum, Dandy, CL Butaud, and Farmhouse. In Fredericksburg proper, one of your best bets on the weekends is the Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten on Main Street. You’ll swear you’re in Austria by the looks of the stone walled courtyard. Pontotoc has an estate vineyard in nearby Pontonoc which is in Mason County. They’re dedicated to using all Texas grapes.Another great stop is Perspective Cellars. This is a truly educational venue and a great way to learn about Texas wine! They’ll pour you a flight of three wines: one from Texas, one from the Old World, and one from the New World. Then you’ll get to learn about how they’re made, the terroir, and more. They also sell wine and do all sorts of events. Looks so fun!Personally, I favor wineries that are making wines from Texas grapes. After all, I’m there to taste Texas wines. It’s not always easy to tell at first glance which wineries meet that criteria though, so you’ve got to do some research ahead of time. One way to guarantee you’re visiting a winery with a 100% Texas grapes track-record is if they’re a member of an organization called Texas Wine Growers. But not all the wineries that are 100% Texas are members of this organization.Tip 8. Be open to some new varieties and some new winemaking styles. Don’t be surprised if some of the wines you try aren’t the usual favorites that you usually drink. Although Texas’ top red grapes include Cabernet and Merlot, the other grapes may be less familiar. It’s fine to tell the person pouring for you that you’re new to Texas wine and unfamiliar with the variety. They’ll be thrilled to tell you about the grape and how it may be similar or different to what you’ve had before. Check out this article I wrote for Texas Wine Lover website to see what’s growing out in Texas vineyards. Many wineries along 290 will showcase Tempranillo, but for some of the finest, check out Pedernales Cellars in Stonewall. Tempranillo is really the backbone of what they do in the red wine program, and this year Pedernales even has a pet-nât from Tempranillo. If you’re into natural wine, or are curious about a low-interventional style of winemaking, you’ve got to try Crowson Wines in Johnson City and Southold Farm & Cellar, mid-way between Johnson City and Fredericksburg. If Rhone varieties are your thing, check out French Connection Wines in Hye. You may already know Benjamin Calais’s other project, Calais Wines. His new effort with partner Sheri Pattillo showcases Rhone varieties including a Picpoul Blanc, a lovely Marsanne/Rousanne/Viognier blend, and rosé, among others.Tip 7. Schedule your day, and don’t overpack your itinerary. Saturdays and Sundays are very busy, and you don’t want to show up without reservations and expect a full tasting. Also, some wineries aren’t open Monday – Wednesday. If it’s been awhile since you’ve been wine tasting, you may be surprised that wine tasting isn’t free anymore. Expect to pay $15 or $20 per person. This may be refunded if you buy a couple of bottles. Also, while some wineries are child and dog friendly, not all are. I can’t stress enough how important it is to plan ahead so that you’re not disappointed.Evenings are often slow, but it can be a good time to schedule a nice dinner or find some live music. The Convention & Visitor Bureau has a printed guide or check their website.Tip 6. Variety is the spice of life! Keep your palate fresh by mixing in some other types of fun.Ideas:(Seasonal) Emergence of 3 million Mexican-free tailed bats at the Old Tunnel State ParkDon’t miss the burgers at nearby Alamo Springs CafeFredericksburg Shopping along Main StreetFabulous eclectic homegoods at Blackchalk Home & LaundrySpecialty kitchen store: Der Kuchen LadenFloral workshop at Windmill Meadow FarmTip 5. Getting around requires a car, preferably one that you don’t drive yourself. At a minimum, designate a driver. Here’s a list of tour companies that will drive you according to your itinerary or theirs.Tip 4. Restaurants are plentiful - except along the stretch between Johnson City and Fredericksburg! My favorite stop between the two is Hye Market, a casual spot to eat or pick up picnic fixins. LBJ State Park is close by. Stout’s Trattoria at Grape Creek Vineyards is another good option for a sit down meal.Cabernet Grill’s all-Texas wine list can’t be beat! Dinner is scrumptious too.Otto’s is the best-rated German influenced restaurant in town. Stroll down a few doors to Le Bergerie, a cute retail shop and wine bar.Culinary options abound. How about a cooking class at Das Peach Haus? A private class on German cuisine, perhaps? There’s wine tasting and plenty of samples of Fischer & Wieser products too.Tip 3. Check the local events calendar for festivals, winery events, farmers markets, live music, and more.Start by looking on the Convention and Visitor Bureau website and then look on specific winery websites and Facebook.Tip 2. Consider wine club memberships. Even if you can’t visit the region regularly, becoming a wine club member can give you serious discounts and access to wines that you wouldn’t otherwise be able to buy. It’s common for wine club members to get discounts of up to 25%. If you are able to visit the winery more frequently, you can expect invitations to pickup parties or winemaker dinners, free tastings at the winery and more.Tip 1. Have fun and expect to be delighted. The people working in the Texas wine industry are really good at their job. They’re going to work hard to help you find a wine you love. They’ll provide you with as much information about Texas wine as you want. You’re likely to be sitting across from someone with a really interesting story. Don’t miss the opportunity to find out what got them interested in Texas wine.I hope you have a great trip! Please reach out with your trip planning questions or feedback on your favorite places. If you’re looking for the closest winery to you home or vacation destination, check out the Texas wineries map on the Texas Wine Lover website.EducationWine Serving TemperatureWine Serving Temperature Graphic* I keep my main wine refrigerator set at 55. That’s the perfect serving temperature for a light red and a heavier-bodied white. I often drink rosé at this temperature too.* For a lighter white (or sometimes rosé), I put the wine into an ice bucket or into my kitchen refrigerator for a little while to chill it further.* For a fuller-bodied red, I will keep the wine out at room temperature for a short time to allow it to warm up a bit. I may also decant it during this time.* For sparking wine, I transfer it to an ice bucket and serve it quite cold.* A too-cold serving temperature will mask a wine’s aromatics.* A wine served too warm may feel “hot” and burn the nose or throat.* The proper serving temperature helps a wine show its best qualities! What I’m DrinkingLost Draw Cellars 2018 Counoise from Farmhouse Vineyards

They are a lot of fun, super informative, and anyone may ask follow-up questions during the live broadcast! This week, we take questions about low hemoglobins, comfortable running attire, and & the physiological reason for doing strides. #WeeklyWins 6:10 Runner Interrupted Coach Amy has got her running mojo back and is rebuilding her running habit! Megan Ruyuke bought herself a membership at a SUP/kayak place and has gone every damn weekend. Build Pat Humes managed to her run in early and made 55 min with 6 accelerators. Patricia Luna went for a run on her rest day because she wanted to not because she had to! ReBuild Kristen Frazier had a great appointment with her doctor and had a solid plan to help her feel better. Maintain Karen Sutton is still running 5 times a week even though things have been really challenging. She started couch to 5k to support her 12 year old who was having her own struggles with the situation. But after week 6 the continuous 20 minutes running was too tough for her so they moved over to rebuild which she finds more fun on Monday Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Saturday, Karen is doing Maintain as written Alone. On Saturday she did 9 miles and really enjoyed it. It was her longest run since February. She says thank you for the tether to the tribe. I have not posted in the group much but I felt happy knowing you are all there. #coachedandloved. Corina Terry celebrated her 50th birthday this week, she is also doing a great job moving runs around to make the plan work for her. Helen Foley has had a major mental shift. Instead of waking up thinking “I can’t believe I have to run again” she wakes up and thinks “why wouldn’t I run today? It’ll be fun” Nichole Ule has found her shuffle!! And did a 2 hour long run on the treadmill. Cara Gerard is Going to take her PTO!! Questions - 13:47 Build - 13:47 Hi coach MK! I thought I was more tired than usual due to the stress of the pandemic, but it turns out my hemoglobin is low. I switched a few months ago to a mostly vegetarian diet and this might have something to do with it. I had noticed my runs seemed to be getting harder rather than easier and required more walking, or occasionally skipping altogether. Do you have any ideas or thoughts on how to keep improving my running habit while I sort all this out? ReBuild - 16:20 I may be your lamest client ever, but what I crave is boringness. A plan where I literally don’t have to think about what I’m doing because it’s nearly the same every day. How can I modify so the workouts and strength so it’s more repetition and less thinking? Signed, Task Initiation Challenged. I’ve been feeling pretty crappy lately and I’m certain it’s a combination of stress, not sleeping well, and eating choices that have lots of room for improvement. I’m slowly working on all of those things, but I’ve noticed I’ve gotten in a vicious cycle of not feeling well thereby skipping my run which makes me feel worse. Any suggestions on breaking the cycle. I can’t find running attire that I like how they fit, feel comfortable, and look good. Have you ever thought about designing a line of running gear that fits real people (I.e not overweight, but not super toned athlete’s body)?? I know you have a lot on your plate but I enjoy running a lot more if there were clothes that fit well and I wasn’t constantly tugging on! For reference, I’ve tried all the major brands and some lady specific ones and nothing seems to fit quite right During my Avocado Toast run, I could feel my calves aching as I ran up hills. I thought this meant I was not using my glutes appropriately, so I started concentrating on that. But then, it felt like I was sashaying side to side too much. Maybe it's my big "glutes", or maybe I'm not running properly. I came home and foam rolled, front and back of legs, but still feeling a little sore a day later. Any correction tips? Maintain - 29:20 Hi! Can you explain the physiologic reason for the strides during an otherwise easy effort run or long run? Is it ever ok to just not do them and keeping it all easy, or are there disadvantages to that? What's the easiest way to access the rebuild strength when I'm in maintain (I want to do both) without having two training plans in training peaks? Okay MK, I've been locked up like a tiger in a cage. Not so much a Carol Baskin tiger, more like a Daniel tiger. But still. So I want to start increasing my long runs on Saturday. I feel like I want to do a three to three and a half-hour run. Any specific modifications I should make to the plan? For example, should I take Thursday off? Should I back off 10% on all the runs that week? Thanks. Click here to subscribe to our podcast, Running Life, and get more racing and training tips from the coaches! Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. As we head towards Easter we are going to move through a series titled “The Centrality of the Cross.” Today is part 6 When Death Brings Life. Text John 12:32-33 (ESV) 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. Introduction We come today, in our emphasis on the centrality of the cross, to the last week of Jesus’ life. It is Monday, the day after He rode into Jerusalem on a borrowed donkey. The pilgrims excitement about Jesus’ presence in Jerusalem was running high. They had greeted Him on Sunday with palm branches, a practise that had first been used when the Jews celebrated the deliverance of the temple and Jerusalem from the Syrians. Thought he years the palm branch had come to be used on coins and in the temple feasts as a reminder of that great victory led by the Maccabeans. So when they waved the palm branches before Jesus, tit was a symbolic way of encouraging Him to conquer the Romans. They wanted Him to be a military saviour. They cried “Hosanna!” Which meant “save us now!” Or “Deliver us now!” But Jesus came not riding a warriors stallion, but on a donkey, to symbolise His mission as a man of peace. Hey everyone I’m Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. This week we are starting a new series titled Understanding Christ’s Passion. The death of Christ was interpreted only as a great personal tragedy and a political catastrophe by the disciples until the light of God was shed on this event through the doorway of an empty tomb and the presence of a living Lord. This week we are talking about, Understanding the Cross. Text Matthew 16:21 (ESV) Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection 21 From that time Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and on the third day be raised. Introduction Our text today reveals that the disciples’ recognition of Jesus as the Messiah marked a new departure in Jesus’ teaching. After the disciples realise that Jesus was the Messiah, they needed know what His true mission was. They needed to understand the cross. They had put away their dreams of a messiah who would come for Israel alone to overthrow its enemies. It was necessary for the disciples to see Jesus as the sin bearer for all humankind and to know that He was the Messiah who would become the Saviour of all humankind by way of the cross. Did His own nation understand the cross? No, the rebelled against the idea of a messiah on a cross. Did His disciples understand the cross? No. Peter’s reaction to Jesus’ announcement of His coming rejection and death plainly shows this delusion in Matthew 16:22 (ESV) 22 And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him, saying, “Far be it from you, Lord! This shall never happen to you.” Those influenced by Greek philosophers were sure that people belittled God by saying that He could be affected by human actions or pain. Do we understand the cross? No, our understanding falls far short. But we can understand four things. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. As we head towards Easter we are going to move through a series titled “The Centrality of the Cross.” Today is part 5 The Cross and Discipleship. Text Matthew 16:24-25 (ESV) Take Up Your Cross and Follow Jesus 24 Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25 For whoever would save his life[a] will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. Scripture Reading Matthew 16:21-27 (ESV) Introduction The word disciple is an appealing word to Christians because it brings to mind those twelve men who were chosen by the Lord for a unique task, that of being the first messengers of the good news He came to give the world. Certainly the shepherds on the Judean hills and the wise men who came from afar were “heralds” of the Saviour, but they did not have an opportunity to know the very essence of His gospel. The familiar word, discipleship, also carries a certain appeal, because we interpret it to be the ideal lifestyle of a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, a lifetime of following and learning from the Master. Yet, inherent in the word disciple, and hence discipleship, is the word discipline. We don’t find the same appeal in the word discipline because it has negative overtones. Everyone is born with a tendency toward rebellion against authority. In other words, discipline, the enemy of everyones will, saturated the way of life Jesus came to reveal. Many who were confronted with the challenge to follow Him could not accept this discipline. As the time for His crucifixion drew closer, there was an unusual urgency in what Jesus said about the cross and about discipleship. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. To begin the new year we are starting our Friday messages with Experiencing the Great Salvation of God” this series will enlarge or concepts of what God has provided for us in and through Jesus. He came to do something more than just give us a ticket to heaven. This week we are talking about. Hindrances to Spiritual Growth. Text 1 Peter 2:2 (ESV) 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation Scripture Reading 1 Peter 2:1-3, 11-12 (ESV) Introduction A Christian life starts with. Spiritual birth experience. You cannot begin a spiritual life merely by making some good resolutions or joining a congregation of believers. Spiritual salvation is much more that developing excellence of character or being a member of a church. Until you experience a birth from above, you dwell in spiritual death. You do not have the life of God within your innermost being. Until you are born of the spirit, you are like an unfertilised egg with the potential for spiritual birth. God uses His divine Word to welcome you into His family. Some refuse to receive God’s Word in faith, consequently, they deprive themselves of this spiritual birth. Many hindrances and obstacles must be overcome if we are to grow physically from infancy to maturity. The same is true on the spiritual level. We would be wise to recognise some opponents that stand in our way on the pathway to spiritual maturity. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. As we head towards Easter we are going to move through a series titled “The Centrality of the Cross.” Today is part 4 The Serpent and the Saviour. Text John 3:14-15 (ESV) 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life. Scripture Reading John 3:1-21 (ESV) In all the Gospels, no conversation is so carefully recorded in regard to detail as the one between our Lord and Nicodemus in John 3. The reason for this thoroughness in obvious, Jesus was relating to Nicodemus the very essence of the good news. When conveying God’s truth, our words must be clear and understandable, and they must find their way into the hearts of people just as Jesus’ words penetrated the heart of Nicodemus. Jesus' words were so explicit that everyone who has read them in the generations since Nicodemus have found them to be clear signs marking the way to eternal life. Nowhere else in Scripture is there any more concise, easily understood presentation of the new birth, And, as with practically everything Jesus did, across the beauty and symbolism of these words spoken to Nicodemus, there was the shadow of the cross. The Necessity of Spiritual Growth. We have a great salvation because we have a great Saviour. We need to recognise and respond to His entire redemptive program for us, not just part of it. The Philippine jailer asked. ‘what must I do to be saved?” This is an appropriate question each of us. To be saved from the power of sin, we must daily live in fellowship with Jesus Christ. To be save from the very presence of sin, we must wait in faith for the return of Jesus Christ at the end of the age. Some people have never seriously asked, “What must I do to be saved?” Visit us at www.refinerylife.org Twitter @PastorGaryHoban @RefineryLifeGC Facebook @PastorGaryHoban @RefineryLifeChurch Instagram @gary_hoban @refinerylifechurch YouTube Gary Hoban http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCxvrTCsjg98vGjMTObxJhtQ Refinery Life Church Australia http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkvD9z50SuKWxhSw0TPQkgQ --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/refineryliferadio/message
Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. As we head towards Easter we are going to move through a series titled “The Centrality of the Cross.” Today is part 3 The Temple of His Body. Text John 2:18-19 (ESV) 18 So the Jews said to him, “What sign do you show us for doing these things?” 19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.” Introduction The implications of what the cross stood for are true. The supreme objective of our Lord Jesus was the cross. From His baptism in the Jordan river , when John the Baptist declared in, John 1:29 (ESV) “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! Until His crucifixion three and a half years later, Jesus’s steps were resolutely in the direction of the cross. In todays text, John revealed three distinct things about our Lord’s personality, each relates in a unique way to His death on the cross. We see Him show anger, we hear Him announce His mission to die, and we observe His divine magnetism that made Him appeal to the people, because not only did He work miracles on their behalf, but He was also in their hearts. He came to do something more than just give us a ticket to heaven. This week we are talking about. Salvation from the Power and Practice of Sin. Text Romans 6:12 (ESV) 12 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions. Scripture Reading Romans 6:1-14 (ESV) Introduction The poor performance of professed disciples is the greatest stumbling block in the path of unbelievers becoming followers of Christ. And a genuine fear of spiritual failure keeps many sincere seekers from making a commitment to Christ in faith. A believer who is experiencing victory over the power of sin is the best possible testimony to the saving power of Jesus Christ. Jesus wants to save us from the penalty of sin, which is death that separates us from God. To save us from this penalty, He needs our consent to let Him come and live within our hearts. Revelation 3:20 (ESV) says, 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me. Christ also wants to save us from the power of sin in the present. For Him to accomplish this, we must give Him our cooperation in addition to our consent. For you to experience salvation from the power and practice of sin in the present, Jesus Christ needs your faith, your commitment, and your cooperation. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. As we head towards Easter we are going to move through a series titled “The Centrality of the Cross.” Today is part 2 Great Crowds Followed Him. Text Matthew 8:1 (ESV) 8 When he came down from the mountain, great crowds followed him. Scripture Reading Matthew 5:1-2 (ESV) The Sermon on the Mount 5 Seeing the crowds, he went up on the mountain, and when he sat down, his disciples came to him. Matthew 7:28 (ESV) The Authority of Jesus 28 And when Jesus finished these sayings, the crowds were astonished at his teaching, And of course today’s Scripture Matthew 8:1 (ESV) Introduction The passage of scripture that falls between Matthew 5:1 and 8:1 is known as the Sermon on the Mount. It is significant that this message was delivered to the crowds that had begun to follow Jesus and that once He had completed this message, the crowds followed Him down from the mountain. But the more significant thing is that the crowds continue to follow Jesus after two thousand years have passed by. By the grace of God, we have been chosen to be among the crowds that follow Him and listen to Him. What is the secret of this magnetism of the Teacher who spoke these remarkable words? What is it that causes this fellowship of the crowds after two thousand years? Why is it that you and I follow Him? Text Titus 2:11 (ESV) 11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, Scripture Reading Titus 2:11014 (ESV Introduction Paul rejoiced greatly over God’s free salvation that he has provided for the benefit of all people of all time. Paul was so filled with gratitude that he had an inner compulsion to proclaim his faith to the ends of the earth. In the words that follow our text, Paul described the nature of this great salvation. He declared that “it teaches us to say No to ungodliness and world passions, and to live self controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age” (Titus 2:12) Verses 12-15 set forth some things that our salvation teaches us. These verses contain God’s plan for our great salvation from the power and practice of sin in the present. I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. Text John 1:29 (ESV) Behold, the Lamb of God 29 The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! Throughout the two thousand years of Christian history, the cross has been the focal point of our faith. Every other aspect of Christianity is given validity and power because of the cross and that for which it stands. Without the cross, Christianity would be nothing but a religion. Because of the cross, Christianity is a way of life. Every one of satan’s efforts to tempt Jesus was aimed at getting Him to bypass the cross. Never did satan try to convince Jesus that He was not the Son of God or that He did not have “all power in heaven and earth.” But he did try to persuade Him to choose some route besides the cross in His mission to save humanity. But the cross was central in Jesus’ mind. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. To begin 2020 we are starting off on Sundays with “The Way to Happiness”. Everyone wants to be happy, and the New Testament is the greatest authority on happiness. Jesus gives is the key that will unlock the door to happiness. This key is found in the eight Beatitudes. We have already covered, Humility, The Way to Happiness. Sorrow, The Way to Happiness. Meekness, The Way to Happiness. Hunger and Thirst, The Way to Happiness. Mercy, The Way to Happiness. Purity, The Way to Happiness. Peacemaking, The Way to Happiness. Today is part 8 Persecution, The Way to Happiness. Text Matthew 5:10-12 (ESV) 10 “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 “Blessed are you when others revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account. 12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. We are made to love and be loved. We like to be liked. Friendship is the atmosphere in which we breath most freely. To be ridiculed as a child is a heart breaking experience, but the pain is not lessened as we become adults. Persecution in the form of harassment and unfair accusations could destroy our private castles of security. Of all the injuries that can be afflicted on a human being, persecution possibly comes the closest to making life hell on earth. Therefore the Lord’s final beatitude seems almost paradoxical. “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” This is probably the most difficult of the beatitudes to believe. The reason for this difficulty is that persecution seems to be the anti of happiness. Furthermore, it seems like a strange statement to come from the lips of such a compassionate saviour. How can we understand our Lord when He congratulated those who were persecuted and encouraged them to rejoice in their persecution? Obviously there is a paradox to be explained. He came to do something more than just give us a ticket to heaven. This is week eight and we are talking about. The Holy Spirit and Our Salvation. Text 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV) 19 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. Introduction Paul was a great missionary who preached the gospel in Corinth, a famous city that stood at the gateway between two worlds. It was cosmopolitan, sophisticated, and wicked. The people who responded to the gospel experienced forgiving grace and accepted Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. They became children of God through faith in Jesus Christ. The apostle Paul, as God’s servant and as the instrument of His love, instructed the Corinthian believers in the heritage they received as God’s children. Through example and teaching, he communicated to them that salvation through Jesus Christ is more than a mere introduction into the family of God and a relationship with Him. Paul stressed that their great salvation was more than the salvation of their souls and a ticket to heaven at the end of the day. Paul explained that salvation not only involves the soul, but it also provides deliverance and freedom from self destructive attitudes and actions that prevent a person from reflections God’s goodness. Text Matthew 5:7 (ESV) 7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” Introduction Living without mercy is the prelude to dying without mercy. On the other hand, living with mercy results in being treated with mercy. As Jesus said it, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.” This beatitude raises three very practical questions. What is mercy? How can I become merciful? And what can I expect as a result? Finding the answers to these questions is the way to happiness. This is week Five and we are talking about. Salvation in the future tense Text Romans 13:11-12 (ESV) 11 Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. 12 The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armour of light. We truely have a great salvation. So we should understand the amazing fullness of the salvation that God gives us through faith in Jesus and cooperation with the Holy Spirit as He works within us. The Holy Spirit led the New Testament writers to relate salvation in a variety of ways. Commonly it is described in terms like justification and regeneration. The New Testament portrays salvation in the present tense as a process that started with our conversion and continues from day to day. God is presently at work in us to deliver us from the sin that surrounds us. This is not salvation from the punishment of sin or the very presence of sin. Rather, it is salvation from the power of sin. If you disregard any phase of our great salvation, your spiritual life won’t be cull and complete. If you fail to appreciate what God has done for you in the past, you will live in uncertainty in the present and with anxiety about the future. Today I want to focus on our salvation in the future. We have to admit that sometimes salvation is over emphasised, which results in neglecting God’s will in the present. Others have thought of Jesus only as a funeral director who comes at the time of death to carry the soul into the presence of God. It is disturbing that this is how some see the New Testament teachings about the Lord’s gracious provisions for us in both the present and the future. Understanding what the New Testament teaches about salvation in the future can be a great source of comfort to an elderly believer and a thrilling challenge to a young disciple. This knowledge can help us in our struggle against evil This information can support us in our sorrows This insight can strengthen us in our conflicts This revelation of truth can serve a a reliable test for our scale of values. Understanding our salvation in the future can help us discover what the ultimate values of life are and what the ultimate victory will be. Jesus gives is the key that will unlock the door to happiness. This key is found in the eight Beatitudes. Did you know the word “Blessed” is sometimes translated as “Happy”. Today is part 4 Hunger and Thirst, The Way to Happiness. Text Matthew 5:6 (ESV) 6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. No two people are exactly alike. Nor have they ever been or will be. We are different from each other in so many ways. Different finger prints, eye, hair, and skin colours, different heritage, intelligence levels, and personalities, and don’t forget different heights and weights.. But we are all alike in the fact that we hunger and thirst. Jesus, in His usual manner of simplifying things that were complicated, used this common demonstration to express the truth of the fourth way to happiness. “Blessed (happy) are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied (filled). Its a strange statement to make. How could hunger and thirst make a person happy? Jesus explained that the right type of hunger and thirst leads to happiness. Jesus was actually asking, “How much do you want righteousness? As much as a hungry person wants food? As much as a thirsty person wants water?” Then He asserted that if you truly hunger and thirst for righteousness, you will be blessed, or happy. But why? Because Hunger and thirst are the way to happiness. The Salvation of Your Life Text Philippians 2:12-13 (ESV) Lights in the World 12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Today we are going to look at the great salvation that god provides for us in the present. It has been said that there is one way to salvation, and there are two sides to the salvation experience, and there are three phases of salvation that God offers. The way is by grace through faith in Jesus. The two sides of the salvation experience are the divine side and the human side. The three phases of our salvation are the past, present, and future. Did you know the word “Blessed” is sometimes translated as “Happy”. Today is part 3 Meekness, The Way to Happiness. Text Matthew 5:5 (ESV) 5 “Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth. Can you truly being make and happy at the same time? Can you picture a meek person who is also a happy person? You'll probably find this rather challenging. Our misunderstanding of meekness creates difficulty. In a world that thinks only an aggressive ambitious person can get a head in life, it is hard to believe that those who are meek will inherit anything, much less the earth! Yet Jesus upheld meekness as the way to happiness. “Blessed (happy) are the meek” it says in Matthew 5:5. If anyone knows human nature and what it takes to make a person happy? Jesus Christ is that person. He did not imply that being fearful or week brings happiness. Instead, Jesus referred to attitude or outlook. The meekness he described requires us to be strong people who are grounded in Christ. It demands us to have a personal relationship with God. This kind of meekness inevitably brings happiness. Meekness is the way to happiness for several reasons. I really want to encourage you to be diligent with your Bible study time, because God has so much more for us than we can get from just going to church once or twice a week and hearing someone else talk about the Word. When you spend time with God, your life will change in amazing ways, because God is a Redeemer. Theres nothing thats too hard for Him, and He can make you whole, spirit, soul and body! You’re important to God, and you’re important to us at www.refinerylife.org When it comes to prayer, we believe that God wants to meet your needs and reveal His promises to you. So whatever you’re concerned about and need prayer for we want to be here for you! This is week three and we are talking about. Partial or Complete Salvation Text Hebrews 2:3 (ESV) 3 how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard, Introduction The Bible is a book that reveals the way of salvation. Jesus Christ came to be a saviour. He lived a sinless life and died in our place for our sins. He rose from the dead, triumphant and victorious, to bring us salvation. No He lives at His Fathers side making intercession for those who trust him. Our text today, speaks about salvation as being a great salvation. Unfortunately, many have made only a half hearted response and have only a fractional understanding of the great salvation available through Jesus Christ. Our text also speaks about the tragic possibility of believers ignoring their great salvation. This verse has often been used as a text for an evangelistic sermon, emphasising that unbelievers should no longer neglect to respond to Jesus Christ as saviour. In reality, the text is addressed to those who have already entered the gateway of salvation but who face the perils of ignoring certain phases of it, resulting in their own hurt in the injury of others. Have you made a half-hearted response to the great salvation that God offers to you through Jesus Christ. Only Jesus can save us from the death that sin brings. Salvation from death, however, is only part of the great salvation that is offered to us. Christ alone can save us from the downward drag of our inherited evil nature. And He alone can save us from the hopeless destiny to which is in Leeds. We should make a complete response to a great salvation rather than ignoring some aspects of it. For many people, salvation from the penalty of sin is a past experience. We are justified in God’s sight through faith in Jesus Christ. Those who have already experienced salvation from the punishment of sin should now be in the process of being saved from the power and the practice of sin. This is salvation and sanctification in the present tense. Further, all of trusted Jesus as Saviour in the past and you are presently experiencing the Holy Spirit's work in their lives look forward to salvation from sin in the future. This is salvation in the future tense, the bible calls are glorification. As you taking inventory of your own heart and your own faith, have you become satisfied with partial salvation, or are you hungry for and seeking the complete salvation that God offers you through Jesus Christ? If you have trusted him a saviour, you should desire his full salvation in the present. To experience complete salvation in the present, you must do a number of things. Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. To begin the new year we are starting on Sundays with “The Way to Happiness”. Everyone wants to be happy, and the New Testament is the greatest authority on happiness. Jesus gives is the key that will unlock the door to happiness. This key is found in the eight Beatitudes. Did you know the word “Blessed” is sometimes translated as “Happy”. Today is part 2 Sorrow, The way to Happiness. Text Matthew 5:4 (ESV) 4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted. Introduction The way to happiness is outlined in the first twelve verses of Matthew 5. Last Sunday we noted that the word "blessed” the Beatitudes could also be translated to “happy”. In the first Beatitude , Jesus said the initial step toward happiness is humility, being “poor in spirit”. We find a very strange statement in the second beatitude, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” What would you think of a person who said to a crying child, “why are you so happy?” You would probably think that this person was either crazy or just plain cruel! The response to Christ’s remark that a mourning person is happy has been similar. The statement doesn’t seem to add up. So we now need to remind ourselves that the beatitudes were not spoken to unbelievers but to the disciples. Remember verse 1? “And seeing the multitudes, He went up into the mountain, and when He was set. The disciples came unto Him.” What Jesus said regarding the way to happiness is directed to Christians alone, those who are capable of experiencing life at its highest level of happiness. “Blessed (happy) are they that mourn.” Does this refer to those people who wander around with a dismal attitude, or those that when we se them we try to avoid them because of they always have bad news? Not at all! This verse could be translated more like, Jesus said, “how happy are those that know the meaning of sorrow, for they will be given courage and comfort!” There are two types of sorrow. One leads to happiness and the other leads to misery. One carries with it a blessing and the other nothing at all. One leads to life, and the other death. Paul distinguished between the two in 2 Corinthians 7:8-10 (ESV) 8 For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. 9 As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. 10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death. To understand this beatitude and experience the happiness it promises, we need to recognise sorrow that leads to misery and sorrow that leads to happiness. Jesus gives is the key that will unlock the door to happiness. This key is found in the eight Beatitudes. Did you know the word “Blessed” is sometimes translated as “Happy”. Today we are going to start with Humility, The way to Happiness. Text Matthew 5:3 (ESV) 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Name the eight things that would make you happy. If God said to you today, the first Sunday of 2020, “Choose eight things that you feel that would make you happy this year and I will give them to you,” what would you choose? Would you choose to be poor in spirit? Would you choose things like mourning, meekness, hunger and thirst, being merciful, being pure of heart, being a peace maker, or experiencing persecution? Do you think these eight things would make you happy? Jesus seems to think so. Before you decide that Jesus is wrong, consider the opposite of these qualities. Characteristics like pride, pleasure seeking, aggressiveness, compromising, impurity, cruelty, and hatred. You couldn’t be happy with these characteristics could you? Of course not! So we need to consider the eight beatitudes as eight steps to happiness. Humility is the way to happiness. In Matthew 5;3 when Jesus spoke of being “poor in spirit,” He was referring to our recognition of both our spiritual neediness and the means that can supply our need. This poverty of spirit, being poor in spirit, results in the discovery of God’s kingdom. People who are poor in spirit do not boast of their attainments or talents because they know that they have nothing that has not been given to them. Why is humility the way to happiness? Hey everyone I’m Pastor Gary Hoban and welcome to Refinery Life Australia. This year our goal is to release a new video / Podcast every Monday Wednesday and Friday. To begin the new year we are starting on Wednesdays with a 5 part series from Philippians 4 about the pathway to success. Today we are going to start with Some Personal Advice. Philippians 4:9 (ESV) 9 What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you. Introduction We have all heard the saying. “Advice is cheap” and generally this is true. But of all the advise we receive, we don’t expect someone to say to us, “You should be just like me”. That however is the advice that Paul gave to the Philippians, Paul described what the elements of living that should mark the Christians life. Then he ended by saying that they should do the things they had seen him do. It might have been strange advice but it was still good advice. This advice provides a model Paul presents himself as the model to follow. Each of us model our lives on someone else, how many times have we been able to see a child doing exactly the same things as their parents? It has been said that we are the average of the five people we hang around the most. So what are the things Paul says we should model after him? Things we have learned. Among the things that people had learned from Paul were the teachings of Jesus. An instructor was needed to teach Christian living, so Paul supplied this instruction. 2. Things we have received. The new Christians at Philippi also received a body of Christian belief, or doctrine, from Paul. Many times Paul defended what he called “his gospel,” which was the gospel of God’s grace. We have also received the doctrine of Christ which is grace. Pauls letter normally contained both a doctrinal and a practical part. These two parts are outlined by the terms “learn” and “receive”. Instruction in the doctrine of grace and Christian living are two things we should all model. 3. Things we have heard and seen. The characteristics we have observed. I know a pastor that if they don’t get an exit row or an upgrade on a plane they get angry with the airline staff. Now imagine if those same staff went to the pastor’s church to see how someone who gets so irate could preach Christ. People can be easily turned away by what they observe in a Christian. Motivation is provided in this advice Paul said that the “God of peace will be with you”. If we model our lives on the things we have learned, received, heard, and seen, we will know that the God of peace is part of our lives. This isn’t just a theory, its a fact. Paul could tell everyone stories of when the God of peace was with him. Paul passed on this piece of advice, which grew from personal experience. If we follow this advice we will become stronger Christians. How do you turn your to-do lists into a plan? How do you know what to do every day? How do you fit your work around non-work appointments and responsibilities? This is what we’ll talk about this episode. This week I’m answering the question that occurs after you make a map - how the heck do I follow through on this every day? You see, in my book Map Your Business and in my Starship Program, you begin by getting clear on your big vision. And then you set a goal and break it down into steps and actionable to-dos. But after you have that big list of what you need to do and the order you need to do them, then what? You can’t get it all done in a day or two, you have to continue to work on it over weeks. And that’s where a lot of us get stuck. So for the month of December, we’re going to have a series on planning - the actual figuring out what to do each day and week. Today we’re going to start by how I use paper planners, and next week we’ll talk about task management software. As we near the end of the year, we’ll talk about how to pick your next big project. And we’ll kick off the year with an episode on January 1, about planning your best year yet. If you’ve followed me on Instagram or YouTube, you know that I started using a real paper planner in 2019, in part because I’m having more meetings than ever thanks to foster care. I’ll talk about how I use it in a minute, but first let’s talk about what I used to do that worked really well. Before 2019, I just wrote stuff down in my journal. I kept one journal for everything - work, personal, notes from reading or meetings, to-do lists, etc. Each week I’d look at my goal and make a list of projects for the week - what do I need to do to move that project forward? what do I need to do in my weekly tasks? What else? I’d usually make one big list for the week. When I woke up in the morning I’d look at the list and pick 2-3 things to do that day as a priority. I write down what I will do that day so I have a list in front of me to focus. I typically spent the first few days of the week doing stuff that needed to be done weekly, and the next few days working on projects. If I didn’t get to something, I’d push it forward to the next week. This worked super well for a long time. When the video about how to bullet journal (the very basic bullet journaling) came out, I thought, “Oh, that’s what I do.” It’s not fancy or pretty but it kept me focused. And, I should note, during this time I would see photos on the tag #planneraddict and think - who has time for all that embellishment, do those people get anything done?! But then my life blew up, aka, I had a toddler. And she had appointments, meetings, visitations, at very specific times. And I never knew if I was going to have the time, energy and focus to do one thing, or twenty things. So in early January I found myself really frustrated that my list system wasn’t working. I’d forget to open my journal for days. I’d have time to work but not be able to decide what to do because I hadn’t made a list for the week on Monday morning. I had months of not being productive OR feeling creatively inspired at all. No knitting or quilting or painting. Then I stumbled up The Happy Planner on Instagram, and I thought - hmm, maybe I need to try a different method and feel like I had even a little creative outlet. And the COLOR, I love color. And I’ll be honest, 2 year olds are addicted to stickers and it kinda got me excited about stickers. So I got a Happy Planner on sale and some stickers and it took me a few weeks, but I figured out a way to use the planner that really really works for me. If you want to see the actual pages or process, this is my planning playlist including a number of plan with me vlogs. The process is very similar to what I did in the journal, but now with stickers. First, I make a list of this week’s projects. Then, I look at the appointments I have for the week. I generally add a sticker on each page with an appointment and write the appointment in. Then I make a space for the books I read that week (along the bottom). And I add another sticker or two to make it pretty. I should tell you that as I record this, the toddlers who have been with me since June just went home, so my week was FULL of appointments. While they’ve been here, some days are pretty much entirely filled with the kids and their appointments. So I can easily fill in Monday-Wednesday’s to do list right away, because those days have specific tasks that I know I need to do first - like write and record the weekly podcast episode, finish up a project I worked on last week, or schedule some social media posts. Then I fill in Thurs and Friday as I go through the week and have to push stuff forward, or I work on bigger projects on those days. I used to just wake up and choose to do whatever on each day, but with less time to work, I decide ahead of time what I’ll need to do each day, or else things will never get done. Once it’s written down, you actually have to do it. Sometimes this is the hardest part, to make sure your day doesn’t get away from you, that when a pocket of work-time opens up, you LOOK at the list and actually do what it recommends. If this is a struggle for you, the first question is: Do you have time, with boundaries around it, dedicated to getting stuff done? Are you intentional with the time you have? What could you do to create the habit of looking at your list? Remember - there is no perfect planner or perfect system to make you perfectly productive. Your job is to find what works for you, change when your life or needs change, and keep giving yourself grace while you experiment. I’d love to know what YOU use and how you plan... and guess what? We have a new free community where you can share your planner and your system with us!
