This week we have a very special episode for you because we are going to be collaborating on this recap with none other than Sarah and Jay from Final Alliance Podcast! We have been going back and forth with Final Alliance Podcast for awhile now but it was so great to finally get to sit down, meet them and have a real discussion on The Challenge. Start off by learning a little bit about Final Alliance Podcast including who their team is, how they got into The Challenge, what made them want to start a podcast, what their production process looks like, who their personal favorite players are and of course, their male and female MT Rushmores (0:00 - 20:20). Then, break into The Challenge World Championship episode 8 "What In The World" with us as we give overarching views on the season and then dive deeper into things like Sarah Lacina's extremely human moment and whether or not we think the editors are trying to change their incorrect typecasting of her, how Kaycee always seems to slip through game DQ's, our thoughts on Bamber giving her spot to Kaycee and which team we think ultimately makes the better pairing between Kaycee/Troy and Bamber/Troy. Then we dive into this week's daily as we FINALLY get a decent version of trivia but were the questions too easy? We also discuss why we feel bad for Jodi, the insane coincidence of Tristan getting the one difficult question that happens to pertain directly to his career, how we think friendships in the game should be handled, our thoughts on the Tori/Kaycee VS Danny/Sarah debacle, how important it is to take breaks from this game, the differences we see with how Survivor plays this game VS Big Brother players VS Challenge players. Lastly, we breakdown the elimination and why we weren't huge fans of it, dive into the "next time on" make some predictions and give MVP shoutouts to nearly everyone on the cast. We kick off our local spotlight about a story from RR spin. This story is about two Roanoke Rapids Police being put on unpaid leave, people are curious on why and awaiting answers. Also on a good side of things KIPP Pride High School has new additions to their Athletic Department and there is a fundraising event coming up in April for the Lee Family that we share with you all. In our national headlines we discuss the fact that Donald Trump is back on Facebook and that there is a investigation of the parent company of TikTok for spying on U.S citizens. To wrap up our headline news we finish with the story of Michael Irvin addressing an alleged hotel incident that resulted in his removal from the NFL Network Superbowl coverage. We have a fooling me with the foolery this week that will literally have you saying "What In The World!" Lastly, we end with a great quote from one of our great women in business to leave you on a positive note. We hope that you enjoy this episode as much as we enjoyed making it. *SIGH* I used to love watching Danny in his movies. The Devito's are working together on this ‘project' and that puts a sour taste in my mouth to think about watching him again.Little Demon explores what happens when Satan's daughter, Chrissy (Lucy Devito) – the antichrist – hits puberty. Her mother, Laura (Aubrey Plaza), just wants the pair to live everyday life in Delaware. But Satan (Danny Devito) wants his daughter's soul.I couldn't get to the remote fast enough to shield my 11-year-old from the preview, and I wonder how many other children were exposed to it—and how many millions more will tune in to the new series, owned and marketed by DISNEY.Congressman Mike Johnson of LouisianaThe trailer includes dark images of Hell, demons, and satanic imagery, and an explanation that the main character is… the Antichrist(!).Disney provides this surreal description: “Thirteen years after being impregnated by Satan, a reluctant mother, Laura, and her Antichrist daughter, Chrissy, attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter's soul.”“During an interview, no joke, they (Aubrey Plaza) said they are enjoying normalizing paganism,” Jess said, referencing a San Diego Comic-Con appearance by Aubrey Plaza. “Even if you're not a Christian, I hope you can tell how wrong this is on so many levels.”Jess was troubled by this. “If we're going to normalize this, can we normalize the fact that demons are real and Christians have the power and authority to cast them out? This isn't some cutesy little show where they're just like, ‘Ooh, magic!' Like, this is pretty blatant,” she said.Another online review explains that Chrissy discovers she's the Antichrist “in grisly fashion, quickly reducing a gaggle of school bullies into piles of red goo in what turns out to be the first of many spectacularly gory sequences. Chrissy doesn't seem overly concerned by the whole triple-murder thing, shrugging it off with an easy-breezy attitude that sets the tone for the rest of ‘Little Demon.'”“Most of the show's best moments come when it leans into its hellish premise and plumbs the depths of its own depravity. It's likely you've never seen a man punch a hole in his own face before or heard the words, ‘Let's go boil some babies while their heads are still soft' in quite that order and, after two decades of South Park, Family Guy, and other cartoon shock merchants, an animated series finding new ways to disgust is a genuine achievement.”WHAT IN THE WORLD?!?I could write volumes this morning, and unpack pages of Bible verses here, but instead I'm just going to state the obvious: Please be careful. Our job as parents is to guard the hearts and minds of our kids. This culture has become alarmingly dark and desensitized and this is not a game. Disney and FX have decided to embrace and market what is clearly evil. STAY FAR FROM IT.Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.1 Peter 5:8Note: Little Demon, although animated, has received a TV-MA rating and is intended for adult audiences.

We're doing this 'fro the culture! In our last episode of the semester Brendane and Alyssa talk featurism, texturism, the politics of Black hair, and are joined by biological anthropologist Tina Lasisi. We'll be back in 2023 with new episodes. In the meantime, don't forget to submit your listener letters and voice notes to zorasdaughterspod@gmail.com and we might read or play it and respond in our next episode. Happy Holidays! What's the Word? Featurism and Texturism. These are colorism's insidious cousins: prejudicial or preferential treatment based on the proximity of their features and hair texture to Eurocentric standards of beauty. What We're Reading. ‘Don't Touch My Hair': Problematizing Representations of Black Women in Canada by Shaunasea Brown. We share our hair journeys, chat about using the term dreadlocks vs locs, examine Canadian contributions to the Natural Hair Movement and infamous cases of workplace hair discrimination in Canada, and demonstrate that we use our hair—or lack thereof—to claim space and exercise our right to be. What In The World?! We chat with Dr. Tina Lasisi, a biological anthropologist who specializes in the science of hair, skin, and human biological variation. We answer your burning scalp questions in a rapid fire, discuss scientific racism, the dangers of DNA phenotyping pseudoscience, and whether we really need to buy "Black" hair products. It's all about Zora: Writer, Anthropologist, Filmmaker, Genius of the South, Capricorn Queen! What's The Word? Anthropology. Difficult to define, but we throw our ideas into the ring! We cover its history, genealogy, what we think makes something anthropological, and what Indiana Jones has to do with Alyssa's research. What We're Reading. You Don't Know Us Negroes and Other Essays by Zora Neale Hurston. We chose two of Hurston's essays that resonated the most with us and our scholarly pursuits: We read 'The Ten Commandments of Charm' and 'Crazy For This Democracy' to explore the politics of relationships and the hypocrisy of our "ass-and-all" democracy. What In The World?! In this segment, we discuss the timelessness of Zora's work, how we're still facing the same obstacles as she did a century ago, letting Anthropology burn, why two Black women graduate students shouldn't be the only ones motivating students to stay in anthropology, the purposeful misreading of Zora's 'conservative' opinions, and why you should talk about the race war in front of white people. We were riding the struggle bus recording and editing this episode, but thank you all for this year, we're so encouraged by your support! Ding dong! In this week's episode, Alyssa and Brendane are talking about sovereignty, non-sovereignty, and the death of the sovereign Queen Elizabeth II to ask whether it's possible (and desirable!) to leave the past behind while creating our collective future. (CW: rape, sexual assault 1:05:00- 1:16:00) What's the Word? Sovereignty. Defined as autonomy, freedom from external control, sovereignty is typically considered a positive. Brendane and Alyssa unpack the ways the concept is also rooted in power and domination. What We're Reading. Non-Sovereign Futures: French Caribbean Politics in the Wake of Disenchantment by Yarimar Bonilla. Bonilla examines how contemporary activists in Guadeloupe imagine and contest the limits of postcolonial sovereignty, challenging us rethink our received ideas about freedom, independence, nationalism, and revolution, and our commitment to sovereignty itself. What In The World?! In this segment, we discuss the death of Queen Elizabeth II and why Alyssa has complicated feelings about it; why turning to past values (that never existed) is evidence of crisis; the problem with Jeremy O. Harris' Slave Play, Bridgerton, and The Courtship; and whether you can really have love under racial or patriarchal domination. Listen to the exclusive Patreon content! Check out our new merch!
