It is a story of courage and transformation. Genevieve shares how drumming became a liberating force, helping her navigate anxiety and body image issues, ultimately changing her life.

What evolutionary purpose does it serve? Most importantly, how do we deal with it? What are the antidotes?Reshamwala has worked for The New York Times, PBS, and also TED, where he hosts a podcast called Far Flung. He is also the host of More Than A Feeling, another podcast here at Ten Percent Happier. Saleem and his team recently launched something called The Dread Project - we shared their first episode kicking off the series last week. It's a five-day series that investigates dread. Each day of the challenge, listeners tackle dread in a different way. The interviewer becomes the guest! In this Ten Percent Happier / More Than A Feeling crossover conversation, Dan Harris interviews Saleem to find out what stuck with him from his investigation into dread. This week: an extraordinary 1989 interview with the legendary Tina Turner. Tina talks about her rise to fame, how her stage act was her own personal fitness routine, how she chooses her songs and whether or not she considers herself sexy. Then, a fun 2003 chat with Cher during her first farewell tour. Cher discusses the highlights of her stage show, what she loves about her fans… and why the cops were called when one of her wigs went missing from the tour! It's an hilarious interview with Marilyn Denis and Roger Ashby. And finally, the incredible Melissa Etheridge from 1996, when she was promoting her new album “Your Little Secret”. She tells us the charming backstory of the album's title as well as the inspiration behind her first hit, “Bring Me Some Water”. Melissa also explains how she managed to “un-tabloid” her personal life by being so open about it. And finally she talks about performing her Janis Joplin tribute at “Woodstock 25”. Plus, Christopher and Tom talk about the greatest debut singles of all time, from “I Want You Back” to "More Than A Feeling" to “Baby, One More Time”. (And for some reason, Tom feels compelled to sing “Rock Lobster”, but you can fast forward past that part.) Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, Newstalk 1290 London, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville.

Welcome to season two of More Than A Feeling! Inspired by an email from a curious listener who's been struggling with feelings of dread, Saleem begins investigating. After a call-out to listeners it becomes clear: we're in a dread-pocalypse right now, and many of us are trying to muscle through it alone. It turns out, though, that there's a surprising amount of joy and humor in just starting an open conversation about the things we dread, whether it's the mundane stuff like “Sunday scaries” or our deepest dreads, like losing a loved one, political polarization or fears around the climate crisis. Clinical Psychologists Dr. Ali Mattu and Dr. Rachel Menzies join the show to explain why we have this scary feeling in the first place, and how we can start coping better. This “dreadisode” is just the beginning of The Dread Project: a miniseries and interactive listener challenge. Starting Monday, November 14, we'll publish five days of short episodes about the different things listeners are dreading. Each one tackles dread in a different way, and offers fun, quick, mindful exercises listeners can try – along with Saleem and thousands of others. The goal is to see if we can all feel a little better, even when we're anticipating the worst. Sign up for The Dread Project Challenge at dreadproject.com and you'll get five days of emails with insights from each day's episode and the exercise that goes with it. You'll also find instructions in our FAQ for how to send us a voice memo, telling us what you think of the project. If you send one in, don't forget to include your name and where you're from. When he's not working on More Than A Feeling, Saleem is also the host of an excellent and totally transporting show called Far Flung from the TED Audio Collective. Far Flung is a journey across the globe in search of the world's most surprising and imaginative ideas. It's not a travel show, exactly. It's a deep dive into the ideas that shape a particular spot on the map, brought to you by local journalists and creators. Weave through the streets of Bangkok with a motorcycle midwife. Time-travel with dinosaurs behind a hardware store in New Jersey. Meet a guy who dresses up as a luchador to protect citizens from traffic in Mexico City. Drop in, listen up, dig deep. This episode we're sharing with you is from the latest season of Far Flung. It's called “The Poetry of Nepal's Bridges”: To get to school, work, or another town in Nepal, it helps if you don't have a fear of heights.

Y'all, I am so stoked for this episode. Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai is a "fearless mashup," according to our guest, of genre, philosophy, culture and music. We're talking a gangster film blended with Eastern teachings and a really dope soundtrack. This film hit Saleem Reshamwala at a very specific moment in his life, and he obtains new meaning from it every time he watches it. And being a self-explained "mashup kid," Ghost Dog seems like the perfect film to talk about. Saleem is a Emmy-nominated mediamaker whose most recent projects are two stellar podcasts, Far Flung from TED and More Than A Feeling from Ten Percent Happier. When was the last time you allowed yourself a really good, joyful shriek? If that's not the easiest thing to answer, what about the last time you experienced blissful joy? In this episode, we look at the emotional wallop that comes from true fandom as host Saleem Reshamwala jumps into the world of pop music, speaking with BTS superfan Sam, clinical psychologist Dr. Lynn Zubernis, and Fangirls playwright Yve Blake to find out what fandom can teach him, and us, about what we feel when we just allow ourselves to fully give in to everything from Beyoncé to the Boston Bruins. Great news—Far Flung will be back for another season in June. We can't wait to take you on ten new audio journeys across the world, from Puerto Rico to Nepal to Somalia to Chicago and beyond. But before that, something different. We're sharing an episode of another podcast Saleem hosts called More Than A Feeling. Most of us have gotten at least a little emotional at some point recently. It's natural. But why do we have emotions and how much should we pay attention to them on any given day? Can we learn to skillfully choose which emotions to listen to and which ones to just let move on by? On this podcast from Ten Percent Happier, Saleem will experiment with neuroscientists, dive into stories with historians and philosophers, and document how musicians, therapists, hairdressers and airplane pilots work with emotions. In the first episode, they get philosophical and ask: what are emotions anyway? Saleem was always trying to figure this question out when he was growing up as a mashup kid: bouncing back and forth with his family between India, Japan and North Carolina. It turns out there are some hidden clues to be found in how we try to translate words for emotions from one language to another. And this opens up a new universe of possibilities for how we describe and relate to our feelings. If you like the show, you can hear more by following More Than A Feeling wherever you're listening to this.
Today we're sharing an episode of a new show from Ten Percent Happier called More Than a Feeling. It dives into the confusing, exhilarating, and messy world of human emotions — and how to make sense of them. Why do we have emotions and how much should we pay attention to them on any given day? Can we learn to skillfully choose which emotions to listen to and which ones to just let move on by? In More Than A Feeling, host Saleem Reshamwala goes on a real life quest to find the answers to these questions. He'll experiment with neuroscientists, dive into stories with historians and philosophers, and document how musicians, therapists, hairdressers and airplane pilots work with emotions. In this More Than A Feeling episode, called Get Me Out of Here, OMNH host Mark Pagán goes deep on one emotion: fear. Specifically, his own fear of riding the New York City subway. And we follow along for the (actual) ride. Listen to More Than A Feeling wherever you get your podcasts, and follow them on Twitter at @podfeelings.
That banger of a theme song you hear each week on More Than A Feeling was made by El Michels Affair. In this episode Saleem talks with singer Piya Malik and musician, songwriter, and leader of El Michels, Leon Michels, about how they work to evoke emotions in their music. We get into how their collaboration with Wu Tang Clan and how their love of Bollywood music inspires their sound. And they nerd out on their creative process, including how Leon plays with sound in order to land on a vibe that's both original and yet feels nostalgic.Try the Ten Percent Happier app for free for thirty days by visiting tenpercent.com/more.Follow us on Twitter at @podfeelings, and if you've got a question or story about an emotion you're grappling with, send us a voice memo at morethanafeeling@tenpercent.com.https://www.tenpercent.com/mtaf-podcast-episodes/nostalgiaSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Everyone's afraid of something. But how often do we talk openly about our biggest fears with friends or even complete strangers? In this episode, producer Mark Pagán opens up to Saleem about something that's been freaking him out for years, so much so that it's seriously affected his day-to-day life. But as Mark seeks out solutions for facing his fear, he finds out this troubling emotion may be more useful to him than he expected.Just a heads-up: This episode contains discussions and scenes about riding the NYC subway, a topic that may be sensitive for some listeners given the recent attack on the New York City subway system. We think the tactics that Mark explores in working and acknowledging his fear can be helpful to anyone who realizes they're dealing with a fearful situation, especially now, in the wake of this terrible attack. Wanna learn more about embracing your own fear? Our companion meditation app, Ten Percent Happier, has an excellent meditation course called Taming Anxiety, featuring Dr. Luana Marques. Thanks for checking out Central online! This week we have a special guest speaker, Ben Lee, as he continues our sermon series, "More Than A Feeling." Ben's message focuses on how being an example of Christ's love means treating those who don't follow Christ with love and respect. We hope you enjoy the service! More Than A Feeling - How Love Changes Lives You've heard it before: Love is not just a feeling, it's a commitment to act in a way that values someone else's well-being. And because God is love, He always acts in the most loving way toward His children, wanting us to thrive and become the people we were created to be. When Jesus interacted with people, he was always loving, but not always in conventional ways. His love was counter-cultural and counter-intuitive. He loved people the way they needed to be loved. He met people's deepest needs. His love changed their lives. But loving people the way Jesus did isn't easy. Sometimes we really struggle to love people. Why? Because we're human. And because relationships are hard. We can't do this on our own, can't just grit our teeth and try harder. But by learning how to let Jesus love people through us, we can be agents of redemption. God can use us to change lives.
