Franz Boas is remembered today as one of the most important figures in the history of anthropology. In the United States, he is widely created with creating the modern field of anthropology or at least being one of the key people involved in its creation. And yet despite this fact, no biography of the life of Franz Boas has ever been written -- until now. In the first volume of what will be a two-volume work, Rosemary Lévy Zumwalt tracks Boas's life from his birth in 1858 to his permanent appointment at Columbia University at the close of the nineteenth century. In this interview, channel host Alex Golub talks with Rosemary about the young man behind the legend, including Boas's romance with his wife Marie Krackowizer, the years he spent in the academic wilderness trying to find a permanent position, and his remarkable ability to balance life and family work. Along the way Rosemary and Alex discuss her writing project more broadly: How can we reconcile the image of Boas as a social justice activist with the fact that he trafficked in human remains? Would Boas have been a success if he did not have rich relatives to support him in what we would today call his 'adjunct years'? How do you successfully spend twenty years writing a two-volume biography of a prolific scholar who lived to be 82? For answers to these questions and more, please give a listen to this interview about Rosemary Lévy Zumwalt's Franz Boas: The Emergence of the Anthropologist (University of Nebraska Press, 2019). Four years before the more famous Hill Abduction, a Brazilian farmer had a hair-raising experience that is eerily reminiscent of the “alien abduction” stories brought to light in the 1980s and 90s. His case is now widely considered the first alien abduction of the post-war era, and the first to imply an agenda of alien-human hybridization. Amaldiçoe a Deus e morra!

Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: Bring legal cases to me, I will donate 100% of my cut of the fee to a charity of your choice, published by Brad West on September 11, 2022 on The Effective Altruism Forum. I am a lawyer that practices near Chicago, Illinois and I also started a 501c3 charity called the Consumer Power Initiative. CPI is interested in using our economic power to benefit charities. To that end, I would like to donate 100% of my cut of any business I bring in to the charity of the choice to whoever brings in the business. I get a third of our firm's fee for business that I bring in. Thus, in a personal injury case, we would get a third of any money generated, so I would generate my cut (a ninth) to the charity of your choice. In an hourly case, I would get a third of the fees generated. Randall Wolff & Associates is the firm I work for and we do a great job for our clients; you can check out our high score on Google Reviews. We would love to take your personal injury, worker's compensation, bankruptcy, or divorce cases. We also would be interested in seeing if we can help you with commercial disputes. I would like EAs more generally to do stuff like this. Are you a professional where rainmaking could be valuable to your business and are interested in helping effective charities anyway? Make it explicitly known that you will direct your cut of the fees to a specific charity, or a charity of their choice. Earning to Give can be much more effective if you use the fact that you donate your earnings to generate business. If you would like to do this, please initiate any conversations about representation by either emailing brad@rwolfflaw.com or calling 847-222-9465 and speaking with Brad West first. It needs to be clear that I generated the business for me (and thus your charity) to get the fee. If you're interested in learning more about the Consumer Power Initiative, check out our newsletter. Also check out BOAS, a company in the EU that sells sustainable baby products and directs all profits to charities.

Chegou a hora do adeus. Finalmente. Desculpem já me estava a entusiasmar. Eu traduzo. Boas férias equipa, comprem o meu livro para matarem saudades. Quando vender 10 mil isto volta. Adeus adeus camafeus!

Bea Boas is the founder of ThetaBreathwork™, a new, cutting-edge method that helps you connect with yourself on a deeper level that you probably didn't even know exists! Her unexpected foray into the world of breathwork began when she took up marketing in university. Bea recalls gaining a keen interest in buyer psychology throughout the next few years and, eventually, that interest evolved into a general curiosity regarding the formation of the paradigms which shape the way we approach life. Bea's brainchild, ThetaBreathwork™, allows practitioners to go inside of themselves to unearth those deep-seated beliefs. With that clarity, one will know what needs to change in order to be able to create their desired reality. Listen in as Bea explains how to reprogram your mind, embrace your truth, and transform your life for the better, all through the magic of breathwork. As always, cheers to your evolution! Key Takeaways: If you decide to adopt a mindset of abundance for the very first time, if your subconscious mind (built up through years, if not decades, of programming) has never learned what it means to embody it, nothing will happen. Manifestation is the management of energy, and the first step to manifesting anything into your life is by doing shadow work: turning inward and coming to terms with your negative qualities so that you can finally be in alignment and attract the things you truly desire. The goal of breathwork is to achieve clarity at a deep level and, through learning more about your truth, gain the tools you need to make the changes you need to take your life to the next level.
